Elf

« on: April 28, 2002, 05:19:22 AM »

 Name: Kiushapo Avi Stetto
 Age: 285
 Race: Wood Elf
 Height: 2 peds
Appearance: Kiushapo has long sun-bleached blond hair usually left to fly in the wind. His skin is fair, and his hands dexterous. He is well muscled, but has a lean appearance. He wears a much battered dark green vest, suitable for hot and mild winter weather and black trousers, trimmed with silver at the waist, also the worse for wear. Around his waist rides his scabbard belt which holds two scabbards, a cutlass and a longsword, both plain to look at. On his feet are calf high black leather boots, well worn. His stride is strong and his steps are bouyant. He seems ready to brace himself against the next wave, despite being on land.
His face is strong, angular and youthful. His expression is one of eternal amusement and his hazel eyes are filled with an internal fire, ready to face any challenge. His smile is always ready and his laugh is not unpleasant to hear.
His only adornments are a pendant hanging from a silver chain on his neck portraying an arrowhead, and silver band  around his upper left arm.

Personality: Kiushapo is a jovial elf, but he is also driven. When ever possible he is on the move, still living as a nomad, even though that life is behind him. He is quite sociable, but his incomplete mastery of the Santharian tongue and heavy accent sometimes makes him hard to understand. He has a great sense of humour, and if you let him, he'll talk your ear off with sailor tales and bawdy jokes. He may even throw in a song or two. He has a great appreciation for music, especially slow, haunting tunes. Quite often you can find him playing such a tune upon his flute, lost in thought and a wistful look upon his face. Long experience as a ships captain has given him the ability to sense a trustworthy person, but he is not fool-proof. Once you have befriended him, you can trust Kiushapo, for the most part. He will do no harm to good friends, but he is not above "borrowing" from mere acquaintances. Nothing major, just a few coins here, a horse there. And most likely he will return it if he can. Kiushapo is used to people following his orders and will take charge if you let him. When faced with a situation he does not understand, he will often spit out some philosophic saying, which just as often makes no sense what-so-ever. He is highly suspicious and sees omens and blessings in just about everything.

 History
I am Kiushapo. Elven sailor captian of Aca-Santherra,on the continent of Nybelmar. My story is long and perhaps being a little sad, so I shall only be telling the most relevant of parts.

I was being born on The Green Fields of Nybelmar, to a family of nomadic elves in the Santharian year 1368 a.S. Mostly our group was traveling from Fullwanooth to Madrack's Cliff. Once I remember we were going even as far as Dreamlake. I saw many great things. Nature is made of many beauties, let me be expressing. My duties were usually being light and my life was simple, the only great worries being orc raidings. On that subject I was trained muchly and made part of the groups militia. I was a swordsmen, I was not exhibiting the greatest skill of us, I was also not exhibiting the worst. Unlike heros I was hearing of often, my blade was being only a simple longsword, oh how I was wishing always to find a great sword for the slaying of the great evils! My favorite pastime was being the scouting of the area around the camp. Most of the time, there was nothing of interest to be finding, but many feathers and strange rocks could you be finding among my packs.

Such was being my life. Now I will tell how it was changing.

We camped close to Madrack's Cliff, being much closer to Port Madrack than previously we had before. My contact with Humans was being small, so being only 150, my curiosity was still strong in my bones. Moving close to the port, the great boats and ships immediately drew my gazing. Such wonders were they being! As I have said my contact with humans was little, this being so, I was never being taught the human scripting and speaking. The many signs and writings were not being readable to me, so I paid no attention to them, moving through the cities alleyways, not knowing the thinkings of the Humans towards Elves such as I. The docks were not being filled as I was expecting, so it was a small matter to get closer to one of the smaller ships. I am saying smaller, but still, it was being perhaps 20 times my height. The Humans aboard seemed friendly, much laughing was I hearing from down on the docks. Once again, my curiosity took me to perhaps, where I should not have been going. Not wishing to be seen I used the surrounding cargo containers for shelter. Being industrious sailors, my shelter was soon running out and I was forced to move into a cabin to continue to them. I observed for quite a long time, soon forgetting that I had to return to my group. Unluckily for me, my losing of the time track, put me into an awkward position. I found sailors approaching the cabin, and I had no place to be going. Hiding under a bed, I was forced to stay there, as the sailors began a game of cards. Night descended and I finally being able to leave the room. I must be saying that the sailors do not keep their beds smelling as nice as a rose is being, so I was glad to sneak out. Making my way to the deck, I was being trapped once again. The ship was pulling away from the land, and I could not swim, being a land elf as I was. Almost weeping was I. I was not speaking the language of these humans, and I did not know what do to. I was deciding that I would turn myself in, but only after we were being further out on the big waters. I was hoping that they would not throw me overboard. It was my best luck, that the captain, was being a good man,and good with the language of the hands. He let me work my passage, and would drop at their next stop. They gave me clothes suitable for the big waters, and began teaching me the ways of their speach. My learning was of the language was slow, but my learning of the ship was progressing much faster. Before we were reaching our destination, I was being a pretty good sailor. Sadly, my language skill were very much lacking and I was speaking as a child would. I had to leave some friends behind when the ship was arriving where it was going. The town they left me in was called Enndalla.

I spent a few years there, picking up bits of language, trying to find a way to get back to my family, and learning to swim, oh what fun that was! Finally I was learning enough to get myself hired onto a boat called the " Wavewind", the captain was saying that he was going to Port Madrak, so I happily performed my duties and learned more of the ship life. The crew of this ship was not being so friendly as the last I had been serving with, and I was feeling that elves were not their favorite people. After months at sea, I began to grow....untrustful.... that we were actually going to Port Madrak. When I was asking the Captain of this he had me thrown in the brig, only to come out when it was my turn to work. For more years of my life I was the ships talking point, when in harbor, I was being known as the Captian's pet elf. Despite the hardness of this life, before long I was a better sailor than anyone on the ship and knew all the towns and cities on the islands. I could also speak well enough to humans to be understood.

By this time I was being 165 years from my birth, and my chance to escape was presented. The ship was harbored at a town called Myrar. We had been being there before, and I had met some people who seemed sorry for my fate. When next the captain was visiting the bar to show me off, the response was less than before, being as they had seen me before. This being so, I was being ignored mostly. Thus it was easy enough for my friends to cause distraction and spirit me away. Thanking my friends I was lucky enough to find the ship that I had stowed away originally. They were happy enough to be having me on again, and seemed pleased at my increased skill. Unfortunately, the crew of the of the "Wavewind" was wanting me back. Attacking the ship at night, we were able to fend them off, but my longsword was not very much use in the confined ship spaces. After we had been shoving off from the city, my training the cutlass began. Because of it's similarities, I was learning this new weapon quickly.

Because of my long life I was able to stay in the ship and perform my duties much longer than the humans. With each new batch of sailors, my rank on the ship grew. Unfortunately, the ship never seemed to go to Port Madrak, so that I could rejoin my family. Knowing that this was their living, I could not be bringing myself to ask them to change course just for me. I became part of the ships legend, and eventually I became captain. At the age of 200 hundred years from my birth, I had over 75 years of sailing experience under my belt, as the humans say.

For 45 years, it was smooth sailing, another human saying. I saw three crews during that time, all picked to my exacting standards. Soon enough I was having more money than I could be thinking of anything to do with. Finally at the age of 280 years from my birth, I found a human that could take the ship from me, and be a good captain, perhaps now I could be going home! Setting course for Port Madrak, I began to think how it would be to live with my family again. I loved sailing, but returning to the nomadic life with my family had been my dream for over 100 years. When we were being almost there, my ship was attacked. We were unable to overcome them, and my crew was taken captive. For months on many months, my world was the rocking of the ship and the daily meals.

My world was being interrupted, when a violent storm was hitting the ship. Perhaps it was fate helping me out, but the ship was badly damaged and I was able to escape through a hole in the hull during the storm. Unluckily, the storm carried me away, and I could not help the rest of my crew. Lapsing into unconsciousness, I was awakening on the shore. The area around me was strange, and I could be thinking of nothing else to be doing but walk.

I walked for a long while and found my way to a town. The accents the people used were different than I was used to, but it was the same human language. I was able to learn that I was not anywhere near my home. For many weeks, I was not myself, lost in my own despair. During this time the towns people were very kind, feeding me and such. After getting over my depression, I set out to find a way home. All I had was a handful of money, my weapons and my clothes. Ah! and let us not forget my knowledge. Armed with these things, I set out to explore this new land, and find a way home.

yaay! I like! The Character talks in a neat way that seems as if he doesn't know the Language. I don't know if you planned it that way, Shareed, but it's nevertheless very interesting!

Good depth, I assume you will have little problem with getting this guy approved.

Heck, you make a preview map and already the people start taking over. I don't know where the places lie (I obviously invented) but with your permission here are some suggestions because most of the continent lies hidden under shadows, well in my head... reading over it I find no suggestions worth it(the history is just great) so some general infos! :)

-Aca-Santerra is in general rather xenophobe, maybe even racist though I guess the harbors and ships are the most tolerant places. They mainly don't trust other races but I guess merchants would never argue about a new, cheap sailor. It would've been another thing if it had been a king's warship, I guess among those ranks no other races are allowed. But on a merchantship the story works fine!

-Port Mandrak is meant to be a halfway station between the kingdom of Santerra and Loreney so very fine how you implemented your story.

-I guess the Sea of Inthalia is the most traveled water as it connects it is along the shores of the empire of Korweyn.

-The Strait of Passweygon leads to the wealthy cities of Zhun though they're not thought out yet, they're meant to be really important ports

-The most important ports of Aca-Santerra are Altyr, Delvynnar(the white city) and Enndalla.

-Your kind wandered the Green Fields. That is fine though these places are also populated by Orcs, though their main force lives in  the Blood fields or east of them.

I guess, that is all. Again your entry is great, I post this because these infos cannot be found on the site but only in my confused mind. Maybe this helps for you to get some orientation over your homelands but I have to warn you the Santerran language will still need some time so no sea stories in Aca-Thangruil for some more months! ;)

Thanks a bunch Koldar!, I was hoping Kiushapo would fit into the area. And don't worry, I still have to think up my sea stories, so I don't think I'll be telling any soon :)

Also, when I get approved can I have the title Shipless Sailor please?

* pokies Kiushapo* I'm in the process of making a story that involves a ship sailing from Milkengrad to Strata, and I need a Captain ( as I'm hoping to create a sea-guide to 'storytell' the story.) Do you think you want to be the Captain? I think you can do it and your Char defenitely has the ' huevos' for it.

*Kiushapo bows deeply* " If you wish it, I am being at your service, M'lady"

ooc: I'll start thinking of a way to work myself in, if I need to know anything extra besides what you have posted in the general forum area, if you would send it to wolfsaint@mac.com, that would be great. :)

well, Shar. You wouldn't need to work yourself in, as you would be the Captain. Working in is hard, I'm wondering whether to avoid that altogether; he simply snagged them in a bar or something BEFORE the story starts.
