Title: The Thirsty Herald Chapter XX
Post by: Bobbo the Beggar on June 26, 2003, 12:26:22 AM
The Thirsty Herald was empty. The patrons had gone. The owner was gone. The staff was gone. It stood as a memorial to its former days of serving the needs of adventurers from near and far.

When one looked at the building, one wondered why the building was empty. Some thought it strange that such a nicely built building was abandoned, and it was a strange thing.

Not long ago, the Thirsty Herald had been a bustling outpost of Strata and one of the best taverns in the South. The Herald had been under the direction of Oscar Lotus, a great and noble barman. Unfortunately, trouble came to him.

In the chaotic days after Strata had be relinquished by the Tristin before order was established, sympathizers of Troas came to the tavern in the night and kidnapped Oscar. Oscar had been revealed as a friend of the Tristin's and one who had helped with the liberation of Strata.

Though the Tristin sent many search parties out to find Oscar, they returned emptyhanded. The Tristin and Lord Robert Junakin (another lord of Strata who helped reestablish the Tristin's realm) were very saddened by this. For a while, the tavern was abandoned, its staff retreating from fear.

This was the past however. It was now known that those who had kidnapped Oscar were caught and executed. They admitted that they had killed Oscar. The danger was gone, but so was the Thirsty Herald's lifeblood.

Seeing that the tavern was now safe, but still without life, Lord Robert Junakin decided to reopen the tavern, in honor of Oscar. Oscar had helped Robert when he was known as Bobbo the Beggar, without his nobility in the days of Troas. There was no reason why Oscar should have helped Robert, but he did, being the kind and compassionate person he was.

Now Robert was a lord, and he owed it to Oscar, Oscar being the one who had shown Robert to the Tristin. Robert also tired of living in Strata and wanted to get away from it. Therefore, he came to the abandoned tavern and set to work.

Robert found the old stocks of wines, ales, and all sorts of drinks. He also found all the kitchen equipment intact, as well as the rooms, being locked as they were. With a little search, he found where Oscar had kept the keys to the rooms.

Robert also hired a bunch of hands to help clean the tavern, as well as some to help the tavern once it reopened. With hard work, Robert was able to put the tavern into ship-shape in about three weeks, restocked with food and drink as well.

Robert added one new thing. Above the fireplace in the common room, he hung a golden-hilted sword. It was one of the most beautiful swords in the world. The scabbard was decorated with intricate patterns, and the blade was of strong tempered steel.

Robert opened the door and let the morning light shine in on him as he breathed in the fresh air. The tavern was ready. He went and sat down in front of the bar and waited for customers to arrive.

Akira walked down from his room that Robert provided for him while he worked at the tavern. He saw Rob sitting down at the bar awaiting for the days customers to begin to arrive and as usual the first morning of the opening was slow. No customers had stayed the previous night(obviously) and usually no 'regular' drinkers arrived 'til around mid-day.

"Morning sir, how'd you sleep?" Akira began moving over into a corner and pulling out his mandolin and began tuning his instrument preparing for a busy night that hoped for.

In my head everything was perfect, every note resoudns in harmony. But now all I seem to offer up are dischords and every note I sing seems out of Key and every time I play with passion I start breaking strings and my voice cracks when I sing from my heart guess that's the price I've got to pay to know that i'm alive this melody is tearing me apart.

"Good morning, Akira. I slept quite sound, my friend. Are you ready to get this tavern going?" replied Bobbo (Robert, by the way).

Bobbo walked over behind the bar and dusted off his clothing. His clothes were very fine indeed. They were decorated with golden symbols and bright fabric was used in their construction. He wore a baggy, brightly-colored shirt, and light linen trousers. On his head rested a wide-brimmed flat hat, to keep sun out of his eyes.

Turning around he grabbed a glass goblet and a bottle of wine. He deftly opened the wine and poured a glassful with only his right hand. Looking down one could see that Bobbo's left hand ended at the wrist.

He lifted the goblet to Akira and said, "To the tavern, and the legacy of Oscar Lotus." He downed the goblet in one swig and set it down.

The low murmer of voices assured the new waitress that the tavern was occupied. She let out a small breath of relief. She wasn't expected for another hour, but the breif look she had had of the place wasn't quite enough to prepare her for the upcoming day. If she was going to have to serve a tavern-full of rowdy men--which would be the case, as it was the grand opening--she needed to get a better feel for the place. So she had opted for an early arrival and a self guided tour.

The Kuglim woman stepped in through the open door. Not for the first time did she smile a bit at the irony of her situation. She never drank, yet here she was, about to serve a room full of men who enjoyed the stuff. It seemed the tavern owner had started early, as he was enjoying a glass of wine by the bar.

"Excuse me," she said, her smile never wavering. "Just wanted to let you know I've arrived."

Akira looked back towards the door where the taverns new waitress Ceridwen stood smiling to the two. Akira hadn't actually met any of the other employees yet, well for long anyways. He arrived late last night and Robert provided a room for him. The bard walked over to the female and smiled extending his hand. "Good morning, I am Akira."

Without a hint a shyness she placed her hand in his, bowing her head a bit in extra greetings.

"Good morning!" she chirped, looking past Akira for a moment to direct the message towards her boss as well. "I'm Ceridwen, or rather, Ceri. I'm the waitress."

She released his hand to move it to her hip. "So...Akira," she said, grinning. "What do you do around here?"

Akira smiled to Ceri. "I'm the 'entertainment' around here." He grinned and moved to the side grabbing his mandolin. "I play a rather unique style of music, it's faster and the lyrical parts differ greatly from that of the average lyrics that you hear in places such as this. 'Drinking Songs' for example." He smiled before adding. "Maybe you and I could do a duet one night, you look like you have a wonderful singing voice."

Color crept to her cheeks at his words, but she just laughed and took a seat ontop of a nearby table. "You must be good if you can tell wha type of voice someone has, just by looking at them," she teased. "I wouldn't say my voice is beautiful, exactly. But we could give a duet a shot."

Ceridwen readjusted her skirts and leaned back so her arms supported her. "Alright, then, Akira," she said, giving him an approving look. "Let's hear some of this unique music of yours."

Akira grinned and pulled his Mandolin in front of him as he lifted a leather strap over one shoulder to support his instrument. "This song is called 'The State of Amnesia' it's a newer one and haven't thought of any lyrics yet though." He smiled and began playing a soft melody, as he went up and down a scale the sound changed dramatically, he struck the strings differently. At the beginning he made more of a flicking motion with his fingers but now it was soft and a solid sound as his hands went over the strings in a strumming motion.

He slowed with a note ringing for a moment before beginning with a fast tune that was low on the scale and created a deep, dark and almost depressing noise. He moved from playing three strings at a time to only one, plucking it with his finger, the notes were very high and slowly worked down the scale on his highest string then slid his fingers along the string making a streaking noise before going back to his fast strumming part of his song. He began to slow and ended with a ringing note and looked up at Ceri to see her expression of his music.

The look of amused curiosity was quickly replaced by sheer awe. She had had no doubt that he was good--if he said he was, he was--but she had heard "good" before and that wasn't simply passable. Oh, if she could play like that, she definatly wouldn't be playing in a tavern. But then, perhaps she would be.

As the last note rung through the air she clapped, a small smile slowly creeping its way back onto her features. "That was incredible!" she said, meaning every word. "Where did you learn to play like that?"

Akira smiled. "Thank you, well I don't know... my mother always told me it was a gift." He turned and placed his mandolin on the table. "I have spent my life trying to revolutionize how music was played. When my parents first discovered how good I was they sent me to a teacher so I could learn music theory and the principles of it. I was entered into a music competition and was required to play some original works. I wrote a song similar to the one you just heard." Akira lowered his head, in almost a shameful manner. "But the kind of music I play isn't really appreciated much. They were more interested in a softer ballad sort of music. I was voted out of the competition and now I'm here."

With heavy steps the hulk lumbered towards the tavern called Thirsty Herald. A humongous battle-axe resting on his right, a huge wine-barrel on his left, muscular shoulder, the Helvet'Ine Kuglim now stood in the doorway of the tavern. His broad appearance hardly let any sunlight shine into the bar room. Bowing deeply not to bump neither his head nor the barrel to the door-frame, the Kuglim stepped further into the Thirsty Herald. Except for Robert, his new employer, the hulk could not see anyone else. The barrel blocked his view towards the tables and the fire place.

But he knew there were more poeple than just him and Robert in the tavern. He had heard music on his way. "Well, Mister Robert, this is the Avennorian Wine you sent me to pick up...any customers yet? I heard music...". With a "thudd" he put the heavy barrel onto the floor, just to be able to see a man, apparently a bard, and a young woman with bright red hair and a warm smile on her face. She was a Kuglim, he could tell. Not one of the Helvet'Ines, but still a Kuglim. In the Twelveīs name...i havenīt met a Kuglim in so long time...and such a beautiful one, too...

Quickly giving her an example of his characteristic smile that revealed his uncommon long canine teeth, the barbarian then turned his head around towards the Tavern-keeper, his neck making strange popping noises. "...would you mind to introduce us, Mister Robert?"

Shaint awoke from his sleep and threw the top cover of his bed sheets off he threw his legs over the side of the bed and stood up he turned his neck to the left and then right a loud popping sound emitted form his bones,

Shaint walked to a mirror and splashed some water on his face looking in the mirror he adjusted a portrait of Oscar lotus that hung above it that Shaint had done in what seemed so short while ago...

He smiled and went to his clothes on a stool, he fitted them on the elf was still wearing the same style clothes as when he entered the tavern, a long sleeved black shirt of heavy material that widened down twords the fore-arms and wrists, ontop of that was a leather vest with scratches and small holes from previous battles.

His pants of leather and worn, along with a pair of heavy weathered boots and a belt wich had his sword's case and sword incased in it, Shaint opened the door of his room heading for the stairs he walked down and smiled at Robert, Akira, and the new...very very big man, along with a woman, Shaint turned to robert and nodded his head slightly before looking to each person with a smirk.......

"names Shaint, i'm just the assistant barman, guard, you know.....I just do a little bit of everything, I'm an elf....incase you havent noticed but I'm not fragile and i'm not normal for one" Shaint said as he glanced back form the ground to the giant kuglims face and kept doing so before whistling.....

"I'm sorry but, you have to be the biggest human I have ever seen.....not quite as big as Radaroc but....your surely big......"

Robert nodded to Ceridwen as she entered. "Welcome to the Thirsty Herald, Ceri," he said to her, "I hope you will enjoy your time working here."

As Akira played his song, Robert walked over silently and listened to him. As he finished, Robert applauded him and said, "Very good, Akira. I am glad you have decided to come to work here."

He smiled as the huge form of Angron came walking through the door. He nodded at him and said, "Thank you very much, Angron my friend." Before he could introduce anyone to Angron, Shaint came walking down the stairs.

Robert smiled as Shaint introduced himself. He knew Shaint well now, having been on a quest with him to retake Strata for the Tristin.

"Well, you've all met Shaint," said Robert, "Just to introduce everyone, this is our waitress Ceridwen, and the bard Akira. That fellow over there who just came in is Angron, the bouncer. I've handpicked all of you to work here with me, and I have no doubt that you will all do well."

Robert smiled at his employees and said, "As for wages, you will each recieve 5 copper a day, as previously discussed. You each get a free room and free food and drink for your services. Does anyone object, though we all agreed previously?"

Keelin pushed open the door and glanced inside. Are they open? Looks like it. She sidled inside, mostly ignoring the group talking by the counter, they looked busy.

She could remember the first time she'd come in here. She hadn't expected to come back. Get a job, get her pay, and move on; that had been the plan. Things change.

She surveyed the room. Robert had done a good job restoring the Herald. She hadn't know him or Oscar very well, but news of Oscar's death had still saddened her. He had seemed like a nice man.

The arrival of the first customer meant that the time had gone by much quicker than she had expected. "Well, it was great to meet you all," she said, smiling at the group. With a final wink she crossed the room swiftly.

"Welcome to the Herald," she greeted the elf woman, who had taken a seat at one of the tables. "What can I get for you?"

"Well, itīs nice to meet you all. As Robert just told you, my name is Angron. Angron Bloodfist, of the Helvet'Ine Kuglimz...and yes, Shaint, i suppose me alone as a bouncer will just do". Angron spoke in his deep, yet young voice. He then turned around and slightly bowed towards Ceridwen, the waitress. "Also one of the North, i presume?".

Just then, an elf, with the fine-lined face of her race, stepped into the Herald. At least the Kuglim assumed the newcomer to be a woman, he could not always tell their genders apart. Also bowing slightly to her, Angron walked over to the cornernext to the bar, where he lifted his battle-axe from his shoulder to place it heads-down on the wall.

"...now where do you want this barrel at, Mister Robert?" the Kuglim asked slowly and quietly.

Ceridwen bit her lip and studied the woman. She was obviously a mute, judging from her miming act, but what help was that if she didn't understand the signals? One...drink...shrug? What was that supposed to mean?

"You want any drink?" she asked, puzzled.

Angron was watching the two elves communicating in this, sign-language, or whatever it was called nowadays. Surprisingly, he understood certain parts of their conversation, and he could not go along without saying something in this unique form of communication. He first let out a quick whistle, supposed to get the attention of the elves, then he began.

"...iīm a berserker...iīm da man" he 'said', smiling from ear to ear and, of course, bared his uncommon long, pointy canine teeth. This was supposed to be a joke, one that probably only those with the humor of a Kuglim could understand. It was a long time ago since he had used this sign-language, and an even longer time ago that he had learned it from an old elf as he wandered through the Shaded Forests. The Kuglim hoped he got all the signs right and proper, and waited for the Inn-keeper to tell where to take the wine-filled barrel.

Shaint was now talking to an elven woman, they seemed to be old friends of some sort. Shaint seemed to be the only one talking though until he noticed the other using signs to communicate and was astonished was Shaint's ability to understand it. The young bard shrugged and turned away walking over to a table, he sat down at one of the tables. He didn't expect that he would be playing his mandolin to a crowd until late that night so he simply settled down in his chair and took his mandolin up in his hands and played lightly and softly a much slower song than before.

He continued on and on for several minutes, pausing every once in a while and looking over what he had played trying to decide how to improve or what adjustments to make to his new song.

"Keelin, your going to be the death of me i've fallen twice since you have entered" Shaint said as he sat down again and crossed his arms glancing at the towering Kuglim with a slight laugh...

Shaint switched to his elven tongue before speaking to keelin "Where have you been Keelin?"

Ceri wandered back to the table where Akira was playing snatches if music. "I've been replaced," she said with a laugh, nodding at the two elves. In a way it was sweet, though she wasn't sure what the situation was between the two of them. As Shaint toppled over--yet again--Ceri turned her attention to the bard.

"So what are you working on?" she asked, taking a seat.

Akira watched Ceri sit down beside him now. He looked up from his mandolin and smiled to her. "A new song for tonight. I'm not really happy with how it is turning out so far." Akira shook his head and put down his mandolin. "So, Ceri, tell me a little about yourself. How'd you end up working here?"

Ceri shrugged. There really wasn't that much to tell about her life; she had never been in battle, she wasn't rich, and she had never had a tragic romance.

"I was born in the Celeste Mountains," she said. "My mom, my brothers and I moved here when I was 14. Now that Benny's married, and the twins are close, I was getting bored. So here I am!" She laughed and gestured to the near empty tavern.

She would have returned the question, but he had already breifed them in his past, more or less. "Can I hear what you have of the song?" she asked.

"Sure I guess." Akira nodded to Ceri before taking up his Mandolin and began playing a very soft and slow ballad going over each string individually making a wonderful flowing melody emit from his instrument. He switched notes every few strums and did this continually for about 1 minute, the notes changing every time, a part never repeating the last. He slowly came to a stop.

As Keelin walked into the tavern Robert said, "Ah, our first customer." Looking again, he recognized her a little. As Ceridwen lost her customer to Shaint, Robert walked over to the elves.

"Good morning, mistress elf," said Robert cheerfully, "Welcome to the Thirsty Herald Tavern. I am Lord Robert Junakin, at your service. But tell me, you look familiar. I think I may have seen you before just barely."

Angron asked him where to put the barrel. He beckoned for Angron to follow him and asked Keelin to excuse him for a moment. He led Angron to the cellar just behind the bar and directed him to place it on one of the empty barrel stands.

Emerging from the cellar he returned to Keelin and apologized for his departure. He reminded her of his question and waited patiently for an answer.

Ceri closed her eyes as he played the soft tune. It seemed more suited for a lulliby or a lovers night than for the tavern. But then, the calming effect would be a positive influence on the rowdy visiters that were sure to appear.

"It's lovely," she assured him, reopening her eyes and smiling at the bard. "I'm sure it will be brilliant by tonight."

"Where have you been Keelin?"

'Around,' Keelin answered vaguely, 'I had a job with a merchant train, not much since then.'

"Welcome to the Thirsty Herald Tavern. I am Lord Robert Junakin, at your service. But tell me, you look familiar. I think I may have seen you before just barely."

Keelin looked up. 'Care to translate?' She asked Shaint before turning back to Robert. 'I was one of the party who was supposed to deliver weapons to the Tristan's army when you and he were recapturing Strata from Troas.'

"uhmm, and a known fine lady" Shaint said in an embarracing smile... he stood up slowly and cracked his back patting Robert he turned to Keelin "excuse me, keelin" he said before walking behind the counter and getting a goblet of wine, he walked back to Keelin's table and took a sip before setting it down he pushed a chair out with his left leg formt he table and gestured to it "care to sit robert?"

Robert looked about the room. "I must say, I've lived in the lordly palaces of Strata since the revolution, but I never could get used to them. Here I am home, and still close enough to contact the Tristin in a day."

Walking into the tavern, Elraralia waited for her eyes to change to the darkness of the inside compared to the outside's brightness.

She had heard of this place when she was traveling along one road or another, and had promised herself that she would come here when she found it, as she hadn't heard where it was.  Just that it was famouse.  Delighted to find out that it was in the town that she was passing through, she sought out directions, and made her way here.

Once her eyes settled, she made her way over to one of the empty tables, and sitting down, began to take in her surroundings.

After Robert had shown him to the cellar, Angron lifted up the heavy barrel and carried it under one arm donwstairs to the storage room. As he came back upstairs, another new customer had entered the Herald. It seemed like it was another elf, probably a female, too. The Kuglim turned to Robert, who had taken a seat next to the bard and the waitress. "Anything else to be done at the moment, Mister Robert?" Angron called over, now leaning at the wall, arms crossed.

A moment later, a small fuzzy kitten crawled out from under the Kuglimz long, dull, black hair, and sat down on Angronīs broad shoulder. Slightly turning his head, Angron began to whisper. "Decided to come out, eh?" "-Yes." came the answer, unhearable for most beings, even elfs.

Seeing the new person walk into the tavern, Robert arose and said, "Please excuse me, I shall return if I can. Have a wonderful visit and let know if you need anything else." He tipped his hat to Keelin and walked to the new face sitting alone at a table looking about the tavern.

"Good day, milady!" said Robert to her, "Welcome to the Thirsty Herald. I am Lord Robert Junakin of Strata, faithful servant to the Tristin. What might you be wanting? We have a vast selection of ales, wines, and spirits as well as some food too. Here you go . . ."

He handed a menu to the woman. "Let me know when you are ready to order," he said, walking off to the sound of Angron's voice.

"No, Angron, not at the moment. Thank you for the help. You can relax for now, we are a bit slow," he replied to Angron's question, "I guarantee that I'll need you this evening though."

Looking up, Elraralia was a bit surprised at the hurried manner of the man before her.  One minuet she was alone, the next moment there was a bustling man in front of her and then as soon as she could blink an eye, he was handing her a menu, and hurrying off somewhere else.

'Guess that's to be expected..' she thought to herself as she opened the menu, amazed at the vastness of the selection.  Looking over the choices, Elraralia realized at how little she knew when it came to drinks.  In fact, all she really knew was wine or water.  Not these strange names that were sitting before her.   Coming to the conclusion that there would be no way at all that she would be able to decide on her own, she took a look around to see what the others in the tavern seemed to be ordering.  Seeing that there was only one other person in the room, the decision was made easy by choosing whatever it was that the elf in the corner was having.

Looking for someone who could help her, she saw that they were all busy, with one thing or another, and after waiting a while, decided to get up and ask the elf herself what she was having.

Standing up, she crossed the room, saying as she got there

"Gooday! I was just wondering what it was that you were drinking, as I am at a complete loss at what to get and you seem to be the only one in here that appears to have chosen something.."

Post by: Jerardomas on July 03, 2003, 05:50:22 PM
Jerardomas had been traveling towards the fabled Herald for quite some time now.  He had heard of the tavern while he ws riding through Strata and thought he might as well rest ilaról`kardión and himself within this tavern, he only hoped it would live up to the name.  He had heard from some that it fell into dispair for a while after a man named Oscar was kidnapped.

As ilaról`kardión and Jerardomas came to the tavern Jerardomas searched for a place to rest his horse but could see no sign of a stable boy or anything of the sorts.  Dismounting from ilaról`kardión Jerardomas hung the riens over a railing near the door, ilaról`kardión nieghing in sign of being left along but free to protect itself if need be.  Ilaról`kardión wore armor fitted for battle as he was a war horse and trained in such manners.  One could tell how much Jerardomas cared for his steed, for his armor was made with the upmost care, being made of blue iron and coated with fryite to help keep his horse cool during warm spells, which they were in now being in a desert.

Standing alongside ilaról`kardión Jerardomas checked a few items that were attached to his horse by the means of sheathes, hooks or within travel sacs.  After being satified with his findings he patted ilaról`kardión before leaving his side.

Jerardomas made his way toards the door, walking through it with a tight fit as surely the door wasn't made for being as tall as his kind.  Jerardomas wears a black cloak embroidered with complex drawing of mighty and rare dragons in silver thread. He wears bracers that are made from gold and have been etched with diverse drawing of Dragons.  He carries a large shield that has been painted a metallic black color and upon it is a picture of himself facing a dragon.  He carries a longsword sheathed on one side and a double bladed axe on the other.  The axe is no ordinary axe though.  Its blades looking much like wings of a dragon than a blade.  The shaft is formed to look like a dragons tail while the head of the axe is a head of a dragon.  With a quick glance one might mistake the axe as being a small dragon hanging from his side and not an axe at all.  He wears bracers that are made from gold and have been etched with diverse drawing of Dragons.

Jerardomas looks heavier then most men, taller as well, this mainly due to his tribe.  His hair is blonde, with dozens of iron rings within it. This gives the illusion that his hair is of a darker, iron like color from a distance and during dim light.  His eyes are a deep black color, seeming to shine in even the dimmest light. The shine is said to seem to pierce through ones soul, almost if he was reading your mind, reading the fear that you had of him.  His skin the color of light tan leather.

Jerardomas stands in the doorway for a moment trying to figure who he would need to speak to about a place to rest his Kel'vor horse ilaról`kardión and himself for the night.

Glayron had being venturing within the area around the herald for a while now, getting to know a few of the local creatures within the Razath-Dath Desert near the Herald.  Glayron has deep dark black eyes, a trait of his people. His eyes seem to pierce through ones soul when Glayron feels they have offended him greatly. His hair is a midnight black. His hair runs down his back reaching his lower back. His skin is a dark brown tan.

He wears only a very light white shirt and light black pants. These are very light loose clothing as they make it feel like he is still wearing very little clothes at all. He has no need for armor as he calls the animals about him in his defense.

After getting to know a few of the creatures closely, having one certain one following him around and riding within a pouch at his side.  Glayron  had now decided to come to the tavern known as the Herald, the one he had seen a few days ago before he had set out on a journey through the desert.

As he came to the tavern he took note of the horse waiting outside of the tavern, munching on a few of the desert flowers around the tavern.  Seeing that the doorway was being blocked by a large man Glayron decided to share a few words with the horse, a small conversation till his entry was cleared.

As Akira returned to work on his song, Ceridwen looked around the tavern. There was an elf at the far table, but it seemed like she was still deciding what to order. Standing in the enterance, however, there were two--rather large--men standing, blocking the enterance.

Do they need an invitation? she mused as she walked over, her teal skirts brushing against her ankles. "I'm Ceri, the waitress," she said, smiling at the two of them. "Do you need some help?"

Akira looked up from his mandolin. The tavern was starting to pick up a bit, more visitors were flooding through it's doors. He stood and walked over to Bobbo and smiled to him. "Things are starting to pick up quite quickly. Tonight should be great."

He moved over and put his mandolin down on a nearby table. "Think you could get me some ale Bobbo?" Atrii asked, he hadn't had anything to drink and as he said this tossed a few coins on to the table that equalled the amount charged for the ale on the menu.

"I am looking for a place to rest my steed my lady.  Would you by chance know of a place, I hope to stay for a night to rest myself as well."  Jerardomas smiled as he spoke.

As the giant, compared to Glayron took a step through the door within the tavern Glayron saw his chance to make his entrance.  Neighing goodbye to the fine steed in which he had been conversing with while he waited, Glayron squeezed by the giant and made his way to an empty table sitting by the fire.  Lightly he lifted the pouch that hung over his shoulder off and placed it down on the table.  As he waited to be attended to one could here hissing sounds coming from his mouth, he sounded much like a lizard as it hissed at you while you passed it by.

Ceridwen smirked lightly as she withdrew her hand, only to position it on her hip. Well aren't you the flirt, she thought, giving the man a once over. Not so shabby though...

Her smile widened and she turned her back on him. Only her head was cocked in his direction, and she watched him from beneath her firey bangs. "You'll want to talk to Bobbo about that," she offered, flapping a hand in the owner's direction. "If you want a drink, you talk to me."

She gave him a small wink, before leading him over to the table where Bobbo sat. "If you'll excuse me, I have a few guests to take care of."

Ceridwen left the two men to talk business, while she approached the other of the newcomers. He was hissing strangely, and she shivered slightly. What was he doing? From the pouch in the front of her apron she withdrew a menu. "What would you like?' she asked, placing it before him.

The Thirsty Herald now seemed to get a little crowded. A rock of a man stepped into the tavern, clad in rich armor and almost as tall as Angron. Possibly another Kuglim...

The young Kuglim pushed himself off the wall to go and greet the newcomer, but he was faster and stepped up to Ceridwen, greeting her with a kiss to the hand. As Ceridwen directed the man towards Robert, Angron nodded towards him as they passed by, meaning to greet him. A figure had squeezed past the hulk as he was still standing in the entrance, and went to take a seat. The figure made strange noises, like hissing, and Angron, who wanted to do his job properly and keep the Herald free of strange and maybe dangerous crowd, firmly stepped up to the lizard-like hissing figure.

"Who are you? Identify yourself!" Angron demanded, his hand always ready to pull out his dagger.

Glayron quickly stopped talking to the pouch as a female waitress approached him asking what he would like.  No hello or welcome, strange I had thought this place was known for politness.

"I am not from this area, did you have any drinks that didn't contain any alcohol mam?"

After replying to the waitress Glayron was startled as a rather large man begain speaking loudly at him, demading to know who he was.

After hissing for a few moments towards the pouch, as if trying to settle something down within, Glayron spoke to the man.

"The name is Glayron sir, do you mind not speaking so loudly for there is no need for it when you are standing right beside me."

As he was speaking he moved his hand toward a staff made of white wood it seemed.  Along with this the pouch on the table seemed to begin to move, as if something within it was stirring around.

The figure moved his hand towards a staff, continuing the hissing at a pouch that was starting to move all by itself. Angronīs knuckles popped as he made a fist with his left hand. "Keep the staff where it is, stranger...!" the Kuglim said in a commanding tone. "I am the guard of this tavern, and my duty is to keep strange crowd out, and you, thus far, seem to be of this kind to me."

The berserker stepped forwards to the table, keeping an eye on the figureīs hand and staff. Shan'Si, his furry companion, leaped off his shoulder onto the table, pinning down whatever was in that pouch. Fortunately, there was a window right next to Angron. "Here, come into the light so i can see who or what you are."

"I only reached for my staff for I feared that you will use force against myself good sir, if you can give your word that this will not happen then I will comply to your wish."

As they spoke a small kitten jumped from the mans shoulder and landed upon the small pouch on the table.  Caring for the safety of the kitten Glayron began to make new sounds, sounds that could be described as the purring and meowing of a cat.

"Please little one, if you wish to be safe I ask yo to leave the pouch alone."  {This is speaking in a cat tongue so you don't know what I am saying here.}

Glayron remained facing the small kitten as he waited the reasponse from the man who seemed bothered by his presence within the tavern.

"Ah, sorry, sir, I did not see you there," he said, rather flustered, "What was it you wanted?"

Seeing Angron over with the new fellow who slipped in by the big man who just wanted his attention, Bobbo called over to Angron, "Angron, leave the man be. He hasn't caused any trouble yet, so there is no need to treat him like a criminal."

Turning back to the big man in front of him, he said, "I'm sorry, sir. Had to make sure things are okay around here. Let's try that again: I am Lord Robert Junakin, owner of this establishment. How can I be of service?"

Ceridwen resisted the urge to smack herself--or Angron, for that matter--on the head. Typical guy: no subtlty what-so-ever. Yes, the hissing was a bit strange, but that was no reason to storm over to the customer and demand he relinquish his weapon...staff...thing.

"I apoligize, sir," she said, directing her comment towards the guest. Gently, so as not to further upset the Kuglim, she laid a hand on his tense arm, hoping to calm him. Bobbo had ordered him to leave the man alone, but further suggestions would hardly be to waste. "Why don't you go see if anyone else is waiting outside?" She paused before adding: "Cute kitten, by the way."

"Angron, leave the man be. He hasn't caused any trouble yet, so there is no need to treat him like a criminal."

Angron obeyed, hasitating though. How was he supposed to keep the tavern safe when Robert allows all kinds of starnge crowd in? Not that he was in this mood often, but the berserker was really about to grab the stranger by the collar and throw him out. Fortunately, Ceridwen came by, and put her - in comparison to Angron - small hand on the berserkerīs arm. It calmed him down a little, but there was still anger there...

Angron bared his canines and quietly growled, like a wolf, then turned away from both Ceri and the figure towards the front door. Over his shoulder, he said: "Iīll be watching you...". He stepped out and sat down on a wooden chair besides the entrance.

His kitten, on the other hand, jumped from the table onto the strangerīs shoulder, and replied in the human tongue, almost unhearable. "That thing in the pouch can not harm me, Glayron...and you better donīt upset Angron any further...you never know when his fuses bust out...". With that, Shan'Si climbed down onto the floor and began to rub against Ceridwenīs legs, just like an ordinary cat that needed some attention.

Glayron smiled as the large man made his leave.  As he did the small kitten jumped upon Glaron shoulder and spoke to him, in a human tongue.  Surely the kitten didn't know what was within the bag, soon enough it would.  Once again Glayron began making strange cat sounds.

"Hopefully it can't little one."

Galyron then started back up with the hissing sounds, but this time the sounds were more relaxing.  With that a small lizard like creature made its way out of the pouch and wandered around the table top examining its new surrondings.  Covered in red scales from head to toe.  Its eyes are large red voids on the side of its head.  Roughly the size of a squirrel and about .3 pygges the small lizard can easily be mistaken for a small baby dragon.  Glayron once again begins his hissing.

"See, nothing is here to harm you, nor will nothin while you are with me, you have my word."

Quarion ducks slightly to avoid the doorframe as he steps inside, and pauses a moment to dust himself off. The dust of the road quickly labels him as a drifter to anyone paying attention. The large Mélad has a spear that more closely resembles an oar than anything else strapped to his back. His posture seems very relaxed and casual, but he appears slightly world weary at the moment.

His muscular arms are bare, and each one bears a tattoo of the Injčrá woven around a storm drake. His shoulder length white hair appears a little disheveled. His vest is fashioned of Nul'tum hide and bears the Injčrá as well. He wears soft black leather trousers and high, soft boots, both of which are more than a little dusty. There are hard leather bracers on his wrists and knees. His single silver earring jingles a little as he moves. His stormy grey eyes give a quick glance around the tavern, making note of all present.

He noticed that a few patrons appeared to be a bit peeved. He hoped he wasn't walking in on some kind of scuffle. He also noticed that several other patrons were quite large, but that wasn't a problem. He's nearly three peds tall himself, and a good bit more than two pygges.

"That will be fine, how much will it be?  Is there anything good to eat here?"

Jeremy sat cross-leggčd on the back of her beige Aj'Nuvic, Little Brother, and ran her fingers through her dull mousey hair. Her poorly dyed turban was unwound in her lap, its light green-blue color matching her wrinkled tunic. Her pants legs were untied, ballooning over her feet and hiding them. her eyes were closed, her brows drawn together in thought, her lips pursed as if she was going to say something.

Little Brother knew that trouble came when she looked like that for long enough, especially since she'd forgotten to eat all of yesterday and the day before. He breathed deep, verifying the scent of humans and horses he'd been following. A building was a few hundred peds away, and Jeremy still hadn't noticed it. Little Brother stopped and turned his head around to look at her. Her chest was moving very slightly, she was breathing as if she was asleep. She had finished toying with her hair and her gloved hands were resting in her lap. Brother nosed her chest. She stroked his ear but otherwise was death-still. Little Brother began to saunter carefully toward the inn, slowly gathering speed so as not to make his mistress fall.

When he slowed to a stop in front of the inn, Jeremy was breathing deeper and her eyelids seemed to be twitching, as if she was reading with her eyes closed. Little Brother snorted at an angry-smelling human sitting at a wooden bench near the small human entrance to the building.

As if bowing to the human, Little Brother lowered his head and slowly bowed his forelegs, letting his mistress slide off of his shoulders and into the dirt before the man.

Jeremy felt herself slide, distantly, and could taste the dirt, but numbly stayed in her mind, not releasing her train of thought.

((did you just fall to the ground or what? iīll just assume that, Jeremy...:smokin  ))

While he was still a bit in anger, Angron noticed someone approach the Herald on horse-(?)back. It seemed like it was a girl, or young woman, but something strange was about this one. The mount stopped, bowed down, and the person on itīs back sled down, but not as one would think, the girl fell into the dirt. The Kuglim arose from the bench and walked over to the place of happening. In comparison to the hulk, the young woman was like a halfling, and with an unsure look on his normally indifferent face, Angron kneeled down. Apparently she was inhaling dust and dirt, so the Kuglim turned her over to her back. "Are you...uhm...alright?".

((Don't call the Aj a horse! He's a big snuggly Aj'Nuvic! bad angron. ))

Jeremy slowly floated out of her haze. She took a moment to verify which way was up, then pushed herself off of the ground. Her silvery eyes were glazed for a moment, then they focused sharply on Angron. Her big Aj'Nuvic was back on all fours and he lowered his head to sniff the woman, keeping his pretty eyes on the human male.

Jeremy knelt before the man who Little Brother had dumped her in front of. She didn't think he looked trustworthy, but stuck out a single gloved hand anyway.

"Would you mind helping me up?" she asked Angron. If he'd stop to notice, her gloves have a strange pattern on them, like large snake scales.

((so whatīs an Aj'nuv-whatever? never heard of it...:p ))

"Would you mind helping me up?" the girl asked. Angron said nothing, but arose again. Instead of taking the outstretched hand of the young woman, the Kuglim placed his huge paw-like hand on the inside of the girlīs upper arm and pulled her up with apparently no effort. "You know, that did not really look all too good. I hope you are alright...the name is Angron, by the way, Angron Bloodfist. I am the guard of this tavern. It is called the Thirsty Herald. You might want to come in and get some rest...the beds here are not the devinityīs lap, but theyīre better than lying in the dirt out here...". A hint of a smile rushed over the berserkerīs face, but disappeared as fast as it came. It stayed long enough to reveal his uncommon long canines, though.

Then the Kuglimz attention fell on the girls strange mount. He had never such an animal before...

((I had to read that article over and over again until I could quote it by heart and you don't know what it is?! It's a giant llamah thingy, with three toes. Its like two peds at the shoulder plus a big long neck.))

Jeremy almost fell over when Angron set her so roughly on her feet. She always forgot how much bigger most people were than her. Irratating.

"Thank you, Mr. Bloodfist, for dislocating my shoulder." she said grouchily, trying to keep her balance. she noticed her turban on the ground and her untied pants legs.she knelt for a moment, tying her pants in a complicated knot so that they stayed tight around her ankles. One ankle was normal, leading to a normal foot, but the right foot was swollen and led to a red mangled bent mess. That crippled foot looked like it had been bent completely in half. It would turn anyones stomach to look at it.

Jeremy picked up her turban and made a bun with her hair, tieing her turban around her head. With her hair up, she looked like a twelve-year-old boy. She stood precariously on one-and-a-half feet and looked at Angron seriously.

"If I drop dead from the cooking here, just label my body 'Jeremy Azure', okay, Mr. Bloodfist?"

Her Aj nudged her, begging attention. Jeremy smiled at him and stroked his chest, taking a white snakeskin satchel from his neck and untying the strap across his shoulder. She shooed him away, sure that he would take care of himself.

"Uhm...yes...whatever...". The Kuglim was searching for the right words as he gave the girl a firm look-over. Not that he had seen things like that right foot of the girl very often, but it did not bother him in any noticable way. "Can you...walk? Or do you need any support...?". Angron frowned a bit, then continued. "I might as well just carry you...your choice."

Jeremy's stomach twisted within her. She wondered how long she had been in a trance. She knew that she ought to be dead. Even now her heart was going half the speed of a normal person's. She slowly wobbled to a chair near a bard. He was playing a mandolin. Once he was done with his song, Jeremy promised herself groggily, once he was done with this song she would ask him to play something with a beat...music always got her heart going regular speed again.

"Umm, thank you...I do belief I'll try that" Elraralia said to the elf, and began to make her way back through the tavern, that as now filling up fast.

Not watching where she was going, as she was too absorbed with the large people who seemed to have appeared here so very quickly, leaving the tavern deviod of any tables she ran right into a girl, who had just entered the tavern, and appeared to be looking for a table as well.

"Oh, sorry, wasn't watching where I was going" she said gruffly, and was about to move on, when she noticed the girl wasn't in the best of shape, and turning around with an afterthought, she said
"There aren't any tables open, but if you like, you're welcome to share mine, I'm the only one there, and it seems like such a waste of space..."

Bobbo nodded at the big man he had just asked what he wanted to drink. Quickly going behind the bar, he deftly took a goblet with his one hand and even more deftly filled it with wine. Taking the glass, he put it in front of the fellow.

Seeing the girl walk in with a definite disability, he rushed to her side. "Good day, my lady," he said to her, "What may I get you? Would you like a room, a drink, or something to eat?"

The girl seemed to be in great distress. Bobbo was quite worried, for he didn't want anyone to die in his tavern, and he didn't want anyone to die period.

Jeremy bared her teeth for a moment at being bumped into, but held back the barrage of obscenities that were fighting to escape her throat. She felt her heartbeat return to a more normal rate, though, and maybe talking to this woman would keep her coherent.

"Yes," she grumbled, "As long as I get some water before I drop dead on the floor."she looked at the woman questioningly, "show me where to sit."

"This way.." Elraralia said, leading her through the busy tavern, sidestepping a small kitten on the floor.  Bending down to pick it up, she placed it on the table next to her, saying as she did so
"There you go, now stay out of the way, or your sure to be stepped on" and moved on, until she got to her table, which by some miracle had not been taken.

"This is it..here's some water" she said pouring a glass for the girl, and sitting down, waited for the waitress to come, although by the business, that could take a while.

"I'm Elraralia by the way."

Jeremy drank the water gratefully, opening her throat and pouring it directly in. When the glass was empty she looked at Elraralia.

"Elraralia" she said to herself slowly, branding the name into her memory. "Thank you. My name is Jeremy." she held out her gloved right hand to shake. "there certainly are a lot of big boys in here. If I get stepped on I swear I'll impale someone with a quill." Looking around for a waitress she asked Elraralia, "Do you know what they serve here? It looks like we won't be getting served anytime this lifetime, we may as well be prepared to order."

As the Kuglim guard seemed content to let him pass unbothered, Dylan entered the tavern. He stood just inside the doorway for a minute taking in the crowd. Several lovely ladies, he thought as he made his way to an empty table roughly near the bard, who was making distinctly odd, but nonetheless beautiful music.

He pulled the chair out, turning it about to straddle it as if he sat a saddle. He beat his hands silently against the table top to the beat of the music. It was indeed rare when Dyl could sit still for long.

He hailed the waitress as soon as he could catch her eye, and when he did--oh, what eyes. He waited until she approached before he unleashed his wit.

Glayron watched as the waitress left the table a quickly returned with his drink.  As she set the cup upon the table she mentioned the price of being two coppers.  With that Glayron reached under the table to his side and withdrew a small pouch the size of ones fist.  Tosing the pouch on the table, the small lizard observing it with caution and curousity combined.  As Glayron moved his left hand over to the pouch slowly untieing the draw string that was wrapped around the opening he began to speak.

"How much would a room cost for a night my lady?"

Ceridwen watched as the lizard inspected the pouch. Now that she was mostly sure that it wasn't going leap out and bite her, it began to lean towards the cute side; in a scaly, lizard-y type of way.

"A room is five coppers, sir," she responded, still watching the small creature. "If you don't mind my asking, what is that?"

Glayron watched as the waitress leaned toward the table taking a interest with his little compainion.  As he placed his hand within the pouch and withdrew eight small sans as he watched the waitress get closer to the small drell.

For a moment Glayron began hissing quitely then spoke to the waitress in common tongue.

"I believe this should cover the drink and room mam.

Oh that, it a small lizard, fire drell to be precise, found within the area here.  I ran across it as I traveled accross the desert to come to Strata.  Sad story he has, one like myself, so one can only understand why we now travel together."

With that said Glayron began hissing again and as soon as he stopped the small lizard approached the edge of the table a tasted the air about it with its filckering forked tongue.

Severine walks into the tavern, his brown eyes scanning around the room. It has been weeks since he left Uderza and found out Tierria was following him. Right now, the girl must have been looking around outside. He saw many people around the room, but he would rather sit by himself. Even though he wanted to be alone, he needed money. Behind her she heard someone call for milk, and she drew away. "If you will excuse me..." Ceri waved her fingers at the lizard. "Buh-bye, sweety."

A bit worried--did they even have fresh milk?--she went to the bar counter. Looking past the assortment of alcohal and juice, she spotted a small jug of white liquid...milk. Carefully she poured its contents into a glass.

He moved over to Ceri who stood at the bar serving this man, she handed the drink to him and Akira moved over. "How's everything Ceri? Haven't really noticed anything, I think I had fallen asleep." Akira laughed a bit as he looked around quickly and noticed how quickly many more guests had arrived.

Ceridwen gathered the mug from the man, flashing him a small smile. "If you could hold on for a moment, I'll be right with you."

She shifted her position so she was looking at the giant of a man. "I apoligize for Bobbo," she said, looking past him and surveying the room. The man with the lizard had switched tables, sitting by the elf-watcher. On the far side, where the two elves were sitting, and where Bobbo had previously sat, the tavern owner had disappeared. That's odd... she thought, when she failed to locate him.

"There is a stable outside, just across from the enterance," she told him. "If you would like to put your mount there, I'm sure Angron--the man by the door--would show you where it is. When you return, I'll find you a room for the night."

That taken care of for the moment, the red haired woman turned back to the younger male. "Sorry for the interruption," she told him, smiling an apology. "We have the Meal of the Day, which is a thick stew with vegetables and assorted chopped meats, the Desert Plate meal, Snake Filet, and Ashden's Roasted Pineapples. I assume you'll be paying when you are finished dining for the evening, instead of pay-by-item?"

Sindayl walked into the tavern and quickly scanned the room with her hazel eyes. She pushed her hair out of her face and turned back looking towards Poe Lily, her wolverine. He was tied to a tree and hopefully that is where he would stay. She looked at Gavel, her horse and smiled.

"I'll be back, I just need something to eat, we can continue in a few moments."

She turned back towards the tavern and walked in.

Looking around the tavern, Elraralia was amazed at all the people who had entered in such a short amount of time.  She had only been in the tavern for a good 30 mins, and already it had gone form empty, to far from empty.

Suddenly, she spotted a man who was looking...was it at her?  Perhaps not, but there wasn't much else to look at behind her, unless he was one of those people with a fetish for blank walls, which seemed unlikly.  He was also twirrling a knike between two figures, and for a moment, Elraralia watched the knife go round..and round..and round...

Shaking her head, she looked up at the man, who was still looking at her...who was he? Looking back, she raised a hand, and waved a hand, too see if he really was looking her way, or just....looking at the wall.

Hmm...I wonder where he could be? she thought.

Quickly scanning around the room, the girl noticed Severine talking to some man standing near him.

"Sevy!" she called, going over to him.

"It seems you are familar with many ladies good sir."  With that Glayron watched as the female approached them.  His lizard now had crawled up from the floor and rested upon Glayron's shoulder.

(OOC: seems I got made a human and I'm an elf.  Can someone fix that for me?)

She had found the tavern and hoped the owner would perhaps trade some food and a room for the pin she had.  Or at least tell her where she could get some coins for it.  A nice meal and a warm bath, that was what she needed.  Then she would see what direction her travels were to take.

Asmordeus leaned down and rubbed Icrurus's head.  The wolf looked up at her questioningly.  "I'm not sure you can come in.  I saw someone tying up that wolverine, so maybe you should wait over there in the trees."  The wolf was not happy about this, but did as she bid him to do.

She entered the establishment and looked around for someone who seemed in charge.  Seeing an empty place at the bar, she walked over to it.  Seeing the man playing with the knife, a lizard, and several patrons, she whispered to herself, "Please Nehtor, guide the right person to me."  She saw the waitress not far away and raised her slim hand to signal her.

Sindayl watched as people passed her bye.

Not very friendly are we?, she thought.

She picked up her skirt tail and walked over to the counter. She was hungry, very hungry. She had travelled from Ximax and was heading to Vezash. Her horse was tired and Poe Lily wasn't really a people person. She laid her staff on the side of the counter and raised her arm for a waiter to come to her.

Angron had taken a swim in the crystal-clear water of the pond that was near the Tavern. Not that it was really necessary, but in the sun, this was never a bad thing. He had been away for about an hour, now the time was about 2 in the afternoon, and as he returned, a wolf was coming out of the Herald. A wolf? Here?? How??? Angron had always been a little obsessed with these animals. In fact, Bran, his mentor, had been calling him "Young Wolf" ever since he was his disciple. Why, Angron did not know. Maybe it was because of his uncommon long canines. Maybe not.

Walking towards the entrance, the Kuglim had an eye on the wolf. Both eyes, actually. His pace was slow, and and almost soundless. As he stood right in front of the wolf, the berserker crouched down, and looked him right into the eyes. Angronīs pale eyes sparkled with fascination. "You are always welcome, lupo" the Kuglim said. He knew the wolf would understand. Entering the tavern, Angron was surprised how many people had come in here in the time he was absent. Seeing a woman at the counter that waited to be served, he walked up to her and laid his huge and on her shoulder from behind.

"How can you be helped, Miss?"

(Icrurus)  He never liked leaving her alone, but he would know if she was in trouble.  He smelled the man before he saw him.  They gazed at each other:o ne wary, the other curious.  He man crouched down and spoke to him.  "You are always welcome, lupo" the Kuglim said.  The wolf seemed sat on his hindquarters.  This was a kindred spirit here.  "Tell my mistress that, she needs someone to help her," the wolf thought toward the man.  The man stood up and went into the building.  The wolf went and sat under the tree.

(Asmordeus) It was really busy and the waitress had another customer to take care of.  She could wait.  A hand touched her shoulder.  "How can you be helped, Miss?"  The man had eyes that seemed familiar.  The smell of water was on him.

"Yes, I have been traveling and need to find work.  I am a cleric of Nehtor," she stated bowing her head evr so slightly as she spoke her god's name.  Looking back up she straightened her shoulders, "And hope to find work as a healer in this town.  My coins are becoming few, till I find work I need to sell something," she said.  She reached into her pocket and pulled out the cloth with the brooches.  With great care she handed over the pin.  "  Do you know where I might sell this?  Once that is done I would like to find the owner here to request a hot bath, food and a room."

Angronīs ice-blue eyes sparkled through the shades that lay on his face. His fore-head was in wrinkles as he thought of some place where to sell the items that the woman just revealed. "You might want to look around the markets of Strata...". Uncommon long canines could be seen under the lips of the Kuglim as he spoke. "...but wait for that until tomorrow...itīs hot out in the sun, you know, and at night...well, a war-torn city like Strata is not the right place for a...woman like you, i suppose...".

Dammit! The old problem!!! Angron thought to himself as he slightly began to stutter. Luckily, Shan'Si, his cat, came by and started to rub her fragile feline body against his legs. It calmed the young man down a bit. "...as for the room...thatīs 5 sans a night, including breakfast. And the bath...well, there is a pond just outside. More suited for relaxation than that old, narrow tub we have here...trust me on this." The Kuglim smiled with the last words said, remembering one more of a wolf than a man.

She knew that he was probably right.  She was tired and knew that she would not have enough coins for the room and a meal.  Guess the hot bath was out as well.

The man seemed to have gotten flustered a bit for a moment.  But the feline had calmed him some.  She looked up into the expressive eyes.  "Well, I suppose you are right.  I can not ...", she looked into the man's eyes.  She didn't finish her statement.

Her knees became weak and the room started to spin.   Reaching out to keep her balance, she put her hand on the man's chest. "I have to sit down please," she whispered.  She would not faint here but knew that she needed to something to eat.

About that time, Ircurus ran thru the door.  He knew his mistress was in need of help.  He was at her side before she could find a seat.  They had not eaten in 4 days time.  Looking at the man he had met outside, "She needs food now.  Help her my friend."

The young bard shook his head and then slammed his hand down across his strings making a loud ringing sound. The sound faded then he continued on with quick strums that were very hard, fast and loud.

Without thinking, the hulk grabbed the woman by the wrist and held her hand away from his chest. She couldnīt have known, but the spot that she leaned to was a big scar from an old, never completely-healed wound. Spear-wound. Orc-wound. For this, the Kuglim held a deep hatred for almost any greenskins that he met. A heart-beat later, Angron realized what he was doing, and quickly released the small hand from his firm grip. "I am...terribly sorry about this, Miss...come, sit here...".

Angron wrapped her arm around his neck, and half lead, half dragged the woman to an empty table right next to the counter. "Wait here...iīll get you something to drink...and to eat." "And for you too." he quickly added as he noticed the wolf standing next to him. Angron went behind the counter, then poored as glass of water. He knew this was the most expensive drink at the Herald, but he would pay for it as the woman seemed not to have enough money. The Kuglim took one of the small bottles that always pended from his belt, opened it, and poored some of the contens into the water.

Completely fixed on the preparation of the drink, Angron did not notice that another woman was standing at the bar. Just then, that womanīs stomach began to rumble, causing the Kuglim to look up and to recognize that there was someone else to be served than the woman that almost fainted into his arms. "Iīll be right there...anything special youīd like to eat?" Angron said to the one at the bar. He now finished to prepare the drink and carried it over to the woman at the table. Angron noticed the pointy ears under her hood. "Drink this...will make you feel better, i hope...Miss Elf...".

He had flinched when she had reached out and touched him.  Her hand had burned when on his chest.  There must be a very bad scar there.  The man had grabbed her hand and before she knew it she was seated and a drink set before her.

She took a sip of the strong drink and saw that Ircurus was next to her.  She rubbed his head and looked to the man.  "I am truely sorry for the fuss.  I thank you for the help and the drink.  I will pay you for it, if you can wait til I sell the pin.

I am Asmordeus Mithantigr.  And yes I am an elf," she smiled at him then.  "I have been traveling for a long time and I guess I should have thought ahead better.  I suppose I pushed myself harder than I should have the last few days."

Ircurus: "You never think ahead, mistress.  But you will be fine with a little rest."  He went to the man and sat before him,  "I too thank you for your help, brother.  If I may ever do anything to assist you...", he felt the understanding of the man and retruned to his mistress' side.

"This is Ircurus, and it seems you two have met.  He is my companion and friend.  It seems there is another customer waiting," she continued to sip the strong drink and listen to the music.

He arose and walked to the woman. Then he noticed the wolf and jumped backwards a little in startlement. Of course the fear was only passing as he realized that the animal was friendly, it not even growling the least bit at anyone.

"Good day, mistress," said Bobbo, "I am Lord Robert Junakin of Strata, the owner of this establishment. I could not help but overhear your conversation with my friend Angron. You are looking for work, yes?"

Angron was about to say...something, but just then, Bobbo came to the scene. And as Ceridwen rushed from here to there and back again, it seemed to the Kuglim that everything was being taken care of. The waitress was bringing out some food, and Bobbo tended to the elven newcomer, who introduced herself as Asmordeus, a cleric of some god that Angron had not even herad of before. With a quiet sigh, he went into the kitchen. Raw snake-filets were pending from hooks that were fixed in the ceiling, and the scent of southern spices of all kinds was in the air.

Coming back out, Angron held two raw filets in his hand, wrapped into a cloth. He knelt down before the wolf and held the fresh meat in front of his nose. "You like someof this? Sure you do...". The Kuglim had a grin on his face, then bit off some of the meat from the other filet.

Title: Sough the Bard and Geegi Merriweather II
Post by: Sough on July 30, 2003, 04:07:22 AM
A shire pony pranced down the dusty roadway, strong, stubby legs bearing its rider with ease.  Through pounding hooves, dust puffed up from the road's sandy surface and covered the pony's shaggy coat, dimming the brown markings and dulling the off-white coloring.  Certainly, the rider's saddlebags and cloak did not escape this fine rain of dust either.

Sough rode along with her cloak's hood drawn over to shield her eyes from the harsh sun.  Already the day grew too hot to travel; too hot for Shire Ponies and, yes, too hot for Hobbits, as well!  Her stomach grumbled, too.  Therefore, Sough was quite pleased to see a tavern and inn come into her admittedly narrow view: The Thirsty Herald, read the sign that hung in the stark shadows of the eaves.  That's the place for me, she thought, for am I not a herald of sorts?  I am most assuredly thirsty, too!

Aloud she remarked, "See there, my friend?  I told you we wouldn't travel far before opportunity presented itself!  You have done quite a fine job bringing us here, you deserve some oats and cool spring water!"  She reached forward and patted the mare's neck, causing yet another poof of billowy dust to arise.  "Goodness me, Geegi Merriweather!  You are in dire need of a thorough brushing!"  She rode the pony over to the stable entrance, wide enough for a small herd to pass through, and dismounted in the shade.  She pushed back her hood to reveal a thick mane of light brown hair.  Her eyes searched the shadows for the local help, a stable-boy perhaps.

"Hello?" Holding the reins, Sough stepped partway into the stables.  She could see other animals here, horses of men that towered over her little Shire Pony.  Towered over herself too.  Not that she minded the larger riding animals, since she knew enough to stay out from underhoof.  Hobbits learn such things at an early age.

"Well, call me over when you have decided, or send your little friend here if your too tired. Goodness knows he'll be able to find me faster.." she said, bending down again, giving the wolf one last scratch behind the ears.

Looking around, she smiled, noticing that the inn was definintly begginging to fill up now.   Passing Angron, who apeared to have a large piece of snake meat...raw snake meat, she was about to make a comment, when she saw him head twords the wolf.

"Well, at least he's been taken care of" she thought to herself, and went up to the man she had told to wait, who was now patiently waiting to be helped.

"Alright, sorry about that sir.  What is it that I can get for you?" she said, handing him a menu.

She was standing in the spooky dark entrance to the horse barn, preparing to step inside and explore the place, so Sough nearly jumped out of her skin at the sudden voice behind her.  "Greetings there, welcome to the Thirsty Herald."

"Eeik!"  Breathless, Sough spun around to see who'd spoken and then laughed aloud when she saw the human on the inn's porch.  Her mirth was part relief that the place wasn't haunted or abandoned and part embarrassment that she'd been frightened so easily.  But this human didn't seem so bad, even if he liked to sneak up on unsuspecting Hobbits.  He carried a mandolin, so she knew immediately this was a fellow musician at the very least.  She smiled and did a little bow, "Please to meet you, friend!  Sough Whisperleaf of the Helmondsshire Hobbits and a bard, at your service!  I am a travelling poet, player of lute, lyre and harp... looking for a place to respite from the harsh heat of this land."

Sough stepped forward and brought the Shire Pony around.  Patting the mare's nose, the very act of which brought another puff of dust about, she said, " And this is Geegi Merriweather the Second, my faithful steed."  She stopped suddenly and peeked over her shoulder at the stable before saying, "I was hoping to find a stable worker who could brush her down."

"Of course I could do it, but I was hoping to get a bite and a drink..."  She grinned and winked, "Been feeling a bit peckish just recently."

His music had been interesting and Dyl had been enjoying it--apparently, however, the bard did not feel he was being appreciated. Understandably so, with the crowd that was forcing it's way inside.

He watched as the guard fed a wolf some raw meat and noticed that its owner looked somewhat distraught. He stood and went over to the golden/silver-haired elf. "Ma'am? May I invite you to share my table? You look in need of a seat. I also am a bit lonely and would also offer you a plate of food in exchange for some lively conversation." "Well let me take you inside then." The ranger held his hand out to the small hobbit. "I'm sure we'll be able to find someone here that could take care of Geegi Merriweather the Second for a while during your stay at the inn." He smiled lightly and laughed a bit pleased that he was able to say the pony's name without messing it up at least once.

Angron looked from the wolf up at the young man, then at Asmordeus, then back at the wolf. He dropped one filet in front of the furry animal. "Enjoy!", the Kuglim said, and arose to his impressive two and a quarter peds, one filet still in hand. After the young man had offered the cleric to acompany him, Angron smiled at her. "You go with him, Miss Elf, i think i heard something outside...". With that, he turned around and walked outside into the breeding heat of the early afternoon. In fact, Angron did hear something. Akira, the bard, was talking to someone, but the towering Kuglim could not make out to who. But then, Angron recognized a movement within the shadows of the stables.

A hobbit? Angron thought. "Akira, Whoīs that over there?" the Kuglim asked curiously.

"why did my grandmother have to breed?" jeremy asked the floor. "when three husbands throw themselves into the sea, that should tell her something."

"Do you know how often I breathe?" she asked the floor again, "I need a new breath of air every ten minutes at most. normal people don't do that. Normal people have to breathe all of the time. normal people can't stop their own hearts."

she looked up with bleary eyes and inhaled. She kept inhaling for three minutes straight. then, her chest twice the size that it had been, she sunk down in her chair and refused to move.

She smiled at his laughter.  It made discussion so much easier in her opinion.

"Ooh... hmmm."  Said a smiling Sough as she looked longingly at the inn's door.  "So very tempting, but I really must see to Geegi's brushing first, or I might feel terribly guilty.  Let me tell you, nothing ruins an appetite faster than feelings of guilt..."  Sough rattled Geegi's reins a bit for emphasis and the Shire Pony whinnied as if in full agreement.

Just then, a very large man stepped out of the inn and bellowed from the shade of the covered porch, "Akira, Whoīs that over there?"

"Oh my!" was all Sough could say at that point.

"Now if you both won't mind, I'll see to Geegi's brushing and finding her a cozy stall before coming inside.  You are most welcome to keep me company, if you wish."

Asmordeus watched the large man feed Ircurus.  Well at least he's made a friend.  The man who had been talking to her offered her a room she was about to go with him when she noticed a crippled woman seem to go limp.

She moved with a slowed gait asking the man to wait a moment.  She went to the young woman and laid a hand on her head.

"Miss, it will be alright.  I will see what I can do."

Ircurus had left his food, which he didn't want to do, to go with his mistress.  He looked at the person his mistress was with.  There is something definitely wrong here but nothing that you can help with quickly, he told his mistress.

"I fear you are right my friend.  But I will stay with her until it passes."  Tired tho she might be, her job was with the young woman til she came to herself again.

(OOC:  I have to be gone this weekend for about a week.  I am hoping to have internet access while away but may not.  It's job related so just carry on my part if you have to for a week please.  My idea is to see if I can help the girl and get the brooch sold and a room here.  Thanks to all who can cover for me....anyone?)

Sough led her Shire Pony into the wide entryway and looked around.  Finding an empty stall, she led Geegi to it.  Sough begain to unload the animal, nicely stacking the saddlebags just outside the stall.  There was a low trestle at the back of the stall, which was where Sough put Geegi's saddle and blanket.

She brushed the mare's mane and tail, then worked out the tangles in the Shire Pony's long haired coat, all the while humming and singing a song to soothe the animal:

By silver moon that rides the sky,
By gentle trees that shift and sigh,
I will find my way home...

By hills and dales with sparkling wells,
By pastures of cattle with tinkling bells,
I will find my way home...

By fields of grain and bountiful earth,
By memory of home and welcoming hearth,
I will find my way home...

Sun and Forest, Moon and Sea
This is all I ask of thee,
To guard and guide me
As I find my way home...

With hardly hearable steps Angron went towards the stables. Very uncommon for a man of his build. As he came closer to the hobbit, he could make out that it was a female, and as far as Angron could make up his mind, she was quite pretty, too. Then she began to sing. Oh my... he thought...This day keeps getting better and better. With his two and a quarter peds, the Kuglim towered over the woman. As he approached her, a - for his standards - warm smile was on his face. His characteristic smile, that revealed his oversized canine teeth, and reminded one more of a wolf than a man.

"My, what a wonderful song...". His eyes seemed to glimmer in the shades of the stable. "Call me Angron, if you like...i am the guard of this tavern...i guess you will be good friends with Akira over there..." he said, gesturing towards the bard of the Thirsty Herald.

As Sough continued to work, she grinned up at the extraordinarily tall human.  "Why, my thanks to you friend Angron!  My own mum, Daffi Whisperleaf to all who know her, wrote the lyrics to that ballad.  Mum gave it to me as a gift when I set out on my journey.  It took me quiet a while to composed a melody that would fit the sentiment.  Ah yes, quite a while."  She stepped back and looked over Geegi's coat, deeming it done well enough for now.   She put the brush away and picked up large, leather wrapped package and proceeded to open the ties.  The wrapping fell away to reveal a golden lute, with a decorative design in black enamel on the front.  She slung the silk strap over her shoulder.  As an afterthought, she grabbed a small bag that held her personal things, just in case she decided to stay awhile.

Sough left the stall and closed the gate.  She patted Geegi on the nose, for the Shire Pony had followed to peek through the wooden slats of her new, temporary home.  Sough reassured the animal, "Here, here, girl.  I'll return soon enough and with a lump of sugar for you, too, I'll wager."  Geegi whinnied her approval and shook her newly brush mane.

Then Sough glanced up at Angron who towered over her.  She whooped, then laughed. "Goodness!  The closer a person gets to you, the taller you are!  And a mighty fine guard you'd make... I can see that!  No wonder they hired you!"  She giggled and then headed for the inn with a small skip in her walk.  "Come along, my friends, I can't imagine going much longer without a bite to eat!"

It was then the door burst open, slamming hard against the wall it was attached to, obviously kicked by a very heavy boot. A one-and-a-half ped silouhette stood in the door frame, quickly striding (for one of its stature anyway) into the middle of the tavern. It was a dwarf, forge-tanned skin ingrained with black dust and dirt, sand from outside imbedded in his well-kept beard. His hair was black as coal and twice as dirty. He looked around, eyes glittering.

His warhammer, which was hefted over one shoulder, dropped to the floor with a loud thump, quickly followed by the rucksack he released from the other shoulder. He pulled himself onto a chair, scowling something about "Nae-Nors thinkin' ae nae one bu' tharselves" and lifted a calloused hand to the barmaid.

"Wench!" he cried, pounding the table with his other fist enthusiastically, "Ale! Methinks I cae use a swig o' sae strrrrong, dwarven ale!" He laughed heartily, looking around as if everyone else shared his enthusiasm.

They, for the most part, did not.

Angron had a little laugh at that. "A good idea, my lady!". What a joyful disposition...

Seeing a dwarf enter the Herald, the Kuglim was alarmed right away, and his facial expression returned to the usual grim mask of scars and two icy crystals. Not without reason as it seemed. Just as Angron thought, the newcomer began to bellow around in a fast, unclear, rude voice. He passed the hobbit on his way to the entrance. The massive silhouette of Angron blocked the sunlight that came through the door and threw large shades into the bar-room. Seeing his battle-axe still in the corner that he left it, the Kuglim approached the dirt and dust covered walking ped. He heard him call the barmaid by "wench", then laughing around and pounding onto the table he sat at. Angron was now standing behind the dwarf.

"You! Keep it down and wait to be served as everyone else does - quietly!"

Quickly Ceridwen filled a mug of dwarven ale, before depositing the two meal-of-the-days and setting down the requested ale in front of the young man. Ale in hand, she hurried over to where Angron was confronting the newest arrival.

"Wench, am I?"

She was torn between amusement and offense at the mildly vulgar phrase thrown out by the dwarf. It wasn't worth fretting over, she decided with a smile. She had been called worse before. "I prefer to be called by my name: Ceridwen. And this will be three coppers, sir."

She set the mug in front of the dwarf, and her free hand came to rest gently on Angron's arm. "What Angron means to say, is that there is no reason to raise your voice inside. I assure you, we will still be quite able to hear you."

He laughed heartilly again, gripping the handle with large, thick-padded fingers and lifted it to his lips for a long haul down his throat. After a few seconds he slammed the brew on the table, spilling a little as he sighed, satisfied. "Ahhh... can almos' taste home, I can...."

Angronīs left eye began to twitch at simply being ignored because of a tankard of some watery dwarven ale. He did not like this, as Kuglim, and even less as a Helvet'ine Kuglim. His fist slammed into a wooden column that beared most of the weight of the ceiling. Dust and dirt was coming down in small clouds, covering the patrons of the tavern and the interior. "I am Angron Bloodfist, the guard of this tavern, and if you do not know how to behave in an etablissment like this, you and me will soon get into some big trouble, Dwarf!".

Korran, to his dismay, found that his hammer was quickly out of reach. Instead, the rotund stared the berzerker in the eye. "Now Hummy," he grumbled, lifting his calloused hands to the berzerker's thick wrist, not trying to struggle free but simply trying to lessen the pressure applied to his collar, "if ye don't calm yeself down, ye might do something ye'll regret... like get me angry." He stared defiantly into Angron's eyes.

"Now," he said calmly, shifting an eye to his mug of ale before fetching it from the table and expertly steering it around the berzerker's grip to his lips, taking another swig, "I dunnae know about ye, but I came fer a drink, and I got it... ye certainly dunnae know how ta treat payin' customers, do ye?"

Ceridwen gave a sharp cry of surprise as the dwarf was ripped from his seat and hoisted into the air. Around the room, customers were starting to look up from their meals and drinks to watch the spectacle. Her normal smile was quickly replaced with an angry frown. This was not the type of publicity they needed opening day. Plus, the dwarf seemed like a nice--if not a bit loud--sort of man.

"That is enough!" she hissed, holding Angron's somewhat-spacey eyes with her own scowl. If the beserk didn't put that dwarf down immediatly, there would be some serious injuries involved. The dwarf looked sturdy and tough, but the guard was significantly larger.

"Put him down!" she ordered. When he refused to repond, she reached up and placed a hand under his chin, forcing him to look at her more directly. "Now."

Mind his head?

At the moment, Ceridwen wanted nothing more than to watch as the dwarf--whom she had yet to discover his name--drag the violent and thankfully unconcious beserk up the stairs, his head hitting every step. True, he wouldn't feel it in his state, but when he awoke, he'd have one heck of a headache.

It would serve the big oaf right.

Still, her temper began to lessen as she watched the dwarf struggle with the giant bulk of dead weight. Sighing, she gripped his shoulders--a bit more firmly than was probably necessary--and groaned as she lifted his head a few inches off the ground. Glory, but this guy was heavy.

"Alright," she said, her muscles straining. "Let's get on with it."

With his longer stride, Angron easily passed Sough as they crossed the courtyard together.  He blocked the inn's doorway, bellowing at someone she could not see.  Sough went up the wooden steps and stood on the porch until he moved, which wasn't a long wait as the big man went inside to tussle with a dwarf almost immediately!

An' no mistake!  This place is needin' some fine entertainment!

Sough slipped in and circled well around the argument to stand unnoticed by the towering bar.  This Thirsty Herald is a busy enough crowd...  She looked about her with sparking eyes and a small grin. Could use an extra waitress or two in here!  There might be a bit of a wait before the food comes!  She shifted the bulk of her lute around so it wouldn't bang anyone's knees as she wove her way over to the cold hearth.  No need for a fire on a hot and sunny day, that's for sure!  Sough carefully placed the lute on the mostly-even stones.  Grabbing a chair, she dragged it one ped over so it stood next to the hearth.  Using the low stone ledge for assistance, the hobbit climbed up into the chair.

From her vantage point, Sough couldn't see much of the commotion on the other side of the common room.  But such events were common in taverns and inns, from her experience.

Picking up her lute, she began to tune it.

He grunted as he pulled him up, one step at a time, imagining him to be a sack of raw ore he was hauling from the lower mines of his home caverns....

Korran almost lost grip once or twice but pulled through, his strong dwarven back and legs never failing him. Finally, as his body lay in the middle of the hall upstairs, Korran sagged against the wall and wiped a single drop of sweat from his brow. He looked up at Ceridwen. "Aye, that was certainly an endeavour, wa'n it?" He grinned and looked down at the unconscious berzerker. "Come on then mate, wir nae done yet..." Stepping over one of Angron's arms--which were spread uncerimoniously away from his body--she pushed open the farthest door. "Well, Jeremy here is a bit, weak, sick with something, and needs a room or something for the night. Also, a healer would be good, if that is at all possible. Is there any way we could get either of those..soon?" she asked a bit worried, as she looked back over to Jeremy, who seemed to be sitting, in a bit of a daze.

Noticing that someone had said "healer", Asmordeus turned to see who was talking.  She walked over to the table to offer assistance.

"I am Asmordeus, Cleric of Nethor, I understand you need a healer.  May I be of assistance?"

The young girl looked pale and not quite herself.  The other woman seemed slightly confused but confident.

Jeremy scowled halfheartedly. "I'm not dying on my feet here, theres no need for a crowd to gather as if I'm gushing blood." SHe sniffed and tried to stand up to storm off, but she had trouble with the standing up part. Plopping back down in her chair she rolled her eyes toward foiros and mumbled something obscene.

Quarion notes all goings on with little interest. Though he does appear a bit disappointed when the large Kuglimz loses consciousness before giving the unruly dwarf a sound beating. He makes a mental note to stay inside the tavern at least until sundown. He isn't one for the ungodly heat, that's for sure. He'll have to get some more drink down as well before setting out.

Quarion remains seated at the bar, all but silent as of yet. He hoped the musician would start up again. Anything to keep his mind off his troubles...

Where's Bobbo been? He hasn't posted in a while.

Atrii walked into 'The Thirsty Herald'. He remembered the last time he was here, meeting all of his good friends. Gararion, Shaint, Bobbo and Keelin. He remembered them all very well and hadn't seen any of them in quite some time. He sat down at his usually tabled shoved off into the corner that was almost the exact way that it had been left long ago.

The ranger sat back in his chair silent, listening carefully trying to get a sense of what was going on. He heard a woman talking who, by the way she was dressed, was the waitress. She was talking, or what seemed like argueing with a man struggling to sit in his chair. He obviously wasn't well and the waitress was trying to persuade him to get some sleep.

He turned away from all the occupants and lay back in his chair and closed his eyes. He remembered the days back when he had seen his companions, travelled with them and got to know them well over the years. Those days were gone and he just hoped that he would meet them again.

Bobbo saw Atrii walk into the tavern and smiled at him. Walking over to his old friend from the war, he said, "Well if it isn't Atrii Redwood! Welcome to the Herald!"

He pulled a chair up beside him and sat down, knowing that the matters of the sick ones were being handled. "So how have you been?"

Sough finished tuning the lute on her lap.  She picked out a few notes with care, satisfied that all was well with her fine instrument.  She paused a moment, her thick hair falling forward to obscure her sombre countenance.

She began to play.

Softly at first, the music was an expression of her heart in suitable rhythm.  Her fingers nimbly caressed the strings, bringing forth a languid, yet delicious melody, very pleasing to the ears.

Soon then, her light voice blended with the lute to a splendid harmony;

"A faded rose in her hair
She's sitting by the window
The days go by and still she cries
Her heart is filled with sorrow
Her heart is filled with sorrow...

"Heartland hills and meadows green
He's traveling around yon bend
This land is more than he'll ever see
And homeward he will wend, soon
    And homeward he will wend...

"Her broken heart will heal yet
When he comes wandering home
Lady fair, lost in despair
Awaiting the gathering gloam
    Awaiting the gathering gloam...

"Heartland hills and meadows green
He's traveling around yon bend
This land is more than he'll ever see
And homeward he will wend, soon
    And homeward he will wend...

Together soon beneath the moon
They will forever linger
And he will bring a promise ring
To grace his lady's finger
    To grace the lady's finger...

"Heartland hills and meadows green
He's traveling around yon bend
This land is more than he'll ever see
And homeward he will wend, soon
    And homeward he will wend...

She continued playing, upping the tempo and soon the melody shifted to a familiar tune, well known in taverns throughout Santharia;

"Gimme a flagon, a barrel, a wagon,
Oh gimme a flask or a pot or a pail,
And do not stop pouring the while I’m adoring,
Yes, gimme a drink of Serianian Ale!

"Let there be a table, as broad as is able,
And set down a stool, a stump or a chair,
And if there be doch nuts, then heap them in waterbutts,
Oh innkeep, I’m ready t’ let down my hair!

"A drinker who’s boozy should not be too choosy,
So bring on the leeswine and beer without fail,
Oh barlass, keep filling the glasses I’m swilling,
And pour me some more of that Serianian Ale!"
*

Sough paused a bit to give her fingers a rest and to gauge the room's reaction to her playing.  Goodness only knows, there's enough going on in here they mightn't have noticed my playing at all!

(OOC) * Thanks to Bard Judith for the last song!

Quarion, unlike most in the tavern, is doing absolutely nothing at the moment. The first song the halfling had played had been more to his liking, but the second had definetly been enjoyable enough. He applauds softly, and nods in the hobbits direction.

His troubles out of his mind for the time being, he is almost enjoying himself now. The sounds of the lute seem make the weight of the world a little less, at least for now.

Jeremy looked around, her eyes rolling back in her skull with irratation at all of the lowly creatures daring to breathe her air. Jeremy realized her heartbeat was slowing down again, so took a few deep breaths to keep it pumping. Those few breaths turned into a deep yawn. She brought her hand to her face to cover her (i have to say it) gaping maw, then brought it down again in shock, hot liquid on her hand.

she looked at the blood on her hand, annoyed. Her nose was bleeding. Had she not been surrounded by annoying do-gooders she would have spent a few minutes swearing at the rebeling feature.

Instead she unwrapped her turban and let her null-colored hair fall like a veil over her face, her silver eyes gleaming out through the mask. grabbing a threadbare cloth napkin off of the table, she drew it under her veil to clean herself.

Seeing Jeremy a look of annoyance, Elraralia stopped for a moment, and turned to her.

"Jeremy, I'm not trying to mother you, you just don't look too good...at all.  But if you would rather sit out here looking like death warmed over, thats up to you.  But if you do get a room, I may be able to help you.  It's up to you, but I'm going to bed." she said, and turning back to the waitress, she saw that she had already disapeared into the crowd, and began looking for someone else that could help at least her get a room.

"Is that enough for a room, Elraralia?" she asked grumpily, keeping one hand on her hidden face.

Sough switched the tune to a softer melody, her fingers trailing lightly over the strings.  This quieting of the lute allowed for people nearer to the hearth, and consequently herself, to have conversations without raising their voices above the music.  It also was less straining on her fingers.  Unfortunately, this also meant that anyone on the far side of the common room, by the front door or staircase for instance, could not hear her play anymore.

Not that too many people here will notice.  Goodness me, this is a tough crowd!   She played the lilting tune by memory and touch as she scanned the people in the room.  She spotted the waitress and continued to watch her, waiting for one look in her direction so she could get some service.  Sough learned form experience that is was easier to be noticed by playing music than by standing next to the bar.   I'd starve to death afore I'd be seen!  That very thing nearly happened in Dasai!  Never again!

Perhaps I should sing another song?

Heading back over to the woman, she smiled "Well, what do you know?  It's time to get a room anyways.  And stop sulking, you'll feel better after some sleep.." she said, while thinking that medicine wouldn't be to bad either.

Come on then, it's up here.." she said, leading the way up the stairs.

Amazing how time flies!  Thought Sough to herself as she watched the crowd slowly disperse;  some headed upstairs, while others filed out the door to head home.  Sough took another look at her thin coin pouch, knowing fully that there was barely enough coin inside to cover a night's stay, much less food and drink.

Wish I'd arrived sooner to earn some pay... or at least to work out an arrangment with the owners of this fine establishment!    Her belly grumbled again.   And so another day of trail rations will have to do!    She patted her belly once, lightly, before hopping off her chair and grabbing her things.  Springing lightly off the stoney hearth, she made her way across the room.

Standing in line behind the few who were getting a room last-minute, Sough finally realized her turn.  She looked up at the innkeeper and held out the last of her coins to him.  "One room, if you please!  And perhaps, on the morrow, we may discuss a business arrangement."  She added cheerily while tapping her lute with her free hand.  Taking the room key with a wink and a smile, she headed for the stairs as well.

Asmordeus looked to Ircurus and only shrugged.  'Guess she's ok', she mentally told her friend.  They moved to a small table close to the door, but out of the line of traffic.  Reaching into her pocket she gathered the last of her coins.  A small bit to eat and a room was definitely what was needed.  It would cost her the last she had.

Ircurus felt that the people here were odder than they had encountered in a long time.  His mistress may not find she can fit in her after all.  Too bad as he liked the wolf brother he had found here.

She listened to the music and it had been quite good and soothing.  Just what she needed.  After announcing closing time, the owner was busy taking out money and handing over the keys to rooms.  When the line was not so long she headed toward the bar.  Handing over the last of her money with a sigh she thanked the man and headed up the stairs.   This was not going as well as she had hoped.

After entering the small room, she removed her cloak and outer garments.  Her prayers should be short as weary as she was, but that would not be right.  She prayed that she would find the day more promising when the sun rose.  The odd person who had been in serious trouble was also in her prayers.  As was the big man who had helped her when she felt faint.

Preparing for sleep in a bed for the first time in many days, she thought over her options.  Tomorrow she would sell the brooch to someone.  Then either find work for her cleric talents or perhaps she can convince the town smithy to at least let her help there some.

Ircurus walked the room sniffing as he went while she undressed.  The last person in this room had an odd odor.  His mistress was bone tired and he could feel her disappointment.  He sat beside her as she prayed.  When she was finally in bed, he jumped up and lay beside her.  She was quickly asleep, but he lay there for a long time in his thoughts.

Quarion sighed deeply. He didn't really much feel like traveling this night, even though it was probably much cooler now. The tall grey elf rises from his bar stool, and places a few coins on the bar for the bar maid. He then walks over to the man who had identified himself as the innkeeper, and drops the money into the man's hand, and takes the room key from him.

Once in his room, he closes the door, and props his immense longspear on the inside of the door frame. He then blows out the single candle, and crashes onto the bed, face up and fully clothed. He stares at the ceiling, silently, immersed in thought. He was dead tired from the days walk, and felt only more weary when he thought of the walk ahead of him tomorrow. He also realized had no idea where he would be wandering, either. Perhaps north again, away from this ungodly heat, or further south, in search of more orcs...

The sun had set many hours ago as Angron awoke. His chest was still burning with pain, and his breething was hard and unconstant. He made his way to the door, his eyes pale but shining like the full moon outside. The wooden planks on the floor moaned under the weigth of the hulking Kuglim as he opened the door. Lumbering down the hall with unusual heavy steps, he found the bar-room dark and lone, no one was there anymore. In a matter of minutes, the experienced traveller made a fire at the heath. Not a big fire, but enough to enlight the room a bit. From the secret pocket in his pants, Angron pulled out his dagger, and placed the tip in the glowing embers. As he took off his lether shirt a cross-like scar could be seen on the left side of his chest.

With the glowing dagger, he cut open the scar, his face remaining emotionless...

Icurus needed little sleep.  And tho it was safer here than traveling, he slept lightly.  He had heard the heavy footsteps and knew it was his wolf brother.  He went to the door and sniffed at it.  Yes, the man was headed downstairs.  But something was not quite right.  He's steps were heavier than before.

The wolf ran to the bed and pulled the thin blanket off his mistress.  He could do many things but opening the door was not one of them.  He licked her face and pleaded with her to wake up.  Finally, she placed her hand on his head and said, "Love, what is it?  Why do you trouble me so late?"

He pulled her sleeve so she would sit up.  He ran to the door and sniffed again.  Smoke from a lit fire was there and something else that he could only slightly smell.  'Please, come quickly.  He may need us.'

Asmordeus quickly got dressed and opened the door.  She knew that her companion would not have wakened her without a reason.  She followed Ircurus down the stairs and toward the bar room.  A faint light was glowing from there.  As she entered the doorway she saw the man's bare back.  It was the kind man from earlier in the evening.  He was crouched before the fire.

Ircurus went to the man and sat looking at him.  Asmordeus entered the room quietly, "Sorry if we are disturbing you, but he felt a strong need to come to you."  She saw the dagger in the fire.  "Are you in need friend?  Or do you wish to be alone?"

Quarion slept lightly, and was awakened by the heavy footsteps of what had to be the Kuglim, going downstairs. After waiting a few moments, unable to return to sleep, decided to get an early start. Coming down the steps, his soft boots make very little noise. He walks into the bar room and hears a female elf that he had seen in the tavern the night before conversing with the large Kuglim, who appeared to be reopening a wound with a red hot dagger taken from the fire.

"Are you in need friend? Or do you wish to be alone?"

He had heard tales of this before. He speaks, still standing behind the elf maiden.

"That is how one builds up an immunity to pain, just like an assassin builds up an immunity to poison, by administering doses of it to himself. Reopening a wound and cauterizing it is one of the more practical methods." He speaks to the Kuglim man. "If I am not mistaken, you are a Battlerager. A Berserker."

out of the shadows comes a young elf, slightly lanky with raggedly cut blonde hair and steely blue eyes that bored into one with the force of a firebrand. he looked up at the sign, reading it aloud.

"The Thirsty Herald, eh? sounds good, i could use something to drink after the long travels." he straightened his quiver, unstrung his bow, and headed inside, smiling his wide smile.

as he went in, the light shone on his tanned skin, making it look almost bronze. he looked around at the diverse crowd, then headed to the bar.

"tender? i'll take whatever you reccomend." he said.

((Kaeru, no posting in this thread until your character has recieved his title. until then, you are only allowed to post here. patience is everything...))

The Kuglimz eyes gazed into the small fire. All he heard were dull voices, far, far away, not understandable for Angron. And the fizzling sound of the glowing blade as he continued to cut open the scar on his chest. Dark blood began to flow out. Strange blood. Bad blood. He put the daggerīs tip back into the embers, and some moments later, it began to glow red hot again. He stabbed the tip back into his chest again, burning away the infested liquid. After that, he pulled a small wooden bottle from his helt, opened it, and poured some of the contents into the newly opened wound. All of a sudden, the hulk arose, his scar-covered torso throwing a big shadow at the wall in his back. He looked down at the wolf beside him as if he had never seen him before. "Lupus, lupus...sanguinem meum, sanguis sanctus, sanguis luporum..." he whispered, staring down at the wolf, and not recognizing the two other persons.

Ircurus was concerned for his friend.  The pain and the infection was bad.  The man spoke to him and then headed for the door.  Ircurus looked at his mistress and she nodded.  He would stay close to his wolf brother til the man was himself again.

Asmordeus thanked the elf next to her for explaining what was happening.  But the infection within the other man's wound was bad.  She could smell the stench that others may not have smelled.  Nodding to Ircurus it was ok for him to stay with his new friend, she watched the two go toward the door.  She looked around at the group of people who had come down and decided she would stay to see if she could talk with the large man.  Perhaps they could help each other.  In the meantime she turned toward the elf who had explained things to her, "Would you care to join me at a table since we are up?  Perhaps we can get a drink soon."

not waiting for the elf to follow, asmordeus sat at a table close to the door.  Seemed someone wanted in and the voices raised a little.  The big man was not quite himself yet, but still knew his job it seemed.  She decided to get herself a drink as there was no waitress around in the middle of the nite.

She went behind the bar and got herself a tankard and laid some coins in the money box.  The group looked tired but as tho all were waiting for something to happen.  The man at the door was finally let in.

Ircurus was not sure of the stranger and less sure of his wolf brother.  He looked to where his mistress was at the bar and decided he was close enough should anything happen.  People were not friendly here, they all seemed to not trust each other.

Dane walks into the Inn, not even glancing at the Man whom was blocking the door. he made his way over to a table , and sat down, his back to the wall.

Reaching under the table, Dane comes up with a long bladed knife. The blade Does not glisten in the little light in the room, for it is of Carved bone ,and a wooden handle. Dane exams the bone, and then slips it back in his boot.

After a few moments hesitation, Quarion moves to join the female elf at the table. He sits comfortably as possible while making sure his feet don't go all the way across the floor to Asmordeus' side. He crosses his arms and places both elbows on the table, displaying the identical tattoos of the woven Injera with a drake in the center, and leans forward, staring into the wood grain of the table, strands of his long white hair hanging over his face.

"I am Quarion. Quarion Logala."

.Dane Again reaches under the table and comes up with the knife. Dane places  his left hand on the table, and begins to stab with his right hand in the spaces between his fingers. Dane seems pretty good, gradually going faster and faster. Dane comes to his ring finger, and the knife comes a little close, and slices a small cut in his finger.

Dan inhales sharply as his finger begins to bleed. Dane holds his finger tightly with the other hand, and the bleeding stop. Soon after ward Dane continued his Knife game

The elf finally decided to join her and folds himself into the chair opposite her.  "I am Quarion. Quarion Logala,"  he states.

"I am Asmordeus Mithantigr, cleric of Nethor, " slightly bowing her head, "and a maker of fine jewelry.  It seems the new guy likes to play with his knife," nodding in the direction of the man.  "Opps, bet that hurt," she said when the new guy cut himself.  Can I get you something to drink as there is no waitress?"

Ircurus saw the elf sit down with his mistress and decided he would check him out.  Heading toward the man, he smelled no danger from him. "Sorry," she said.  He's mine, his name is Ircurus.  Guess he just wanted to meet you.  About that drink?"  She hoped the big man would come join them or at least she could ask him to when she went to the bar for the elf's drink.

"Can I get you something to drink as there is no waitress?"

The tall and muscular grey elf shakes his head. "No thanks." He takes little notice of the man who had just come in a moment ago. When the wolf approaches, he follows it with his stony grey eyes, and as it draws nearer, he offers Ircurus a bracered upturned palm.

After about a minute of the game, Dane grows weary of it ( and the cuts in his hand).. He lies back, exhaling deeply. He sticks the knife back in his boot, and closes his eyes.

"So what has brought you to this place?  Are you perhaps just passing thru? " she asked the elf.  He seemed to not be concerned about Ircurus.

Ircurus could smell the blood on the strange elf.  He had killed someone in the past.  The victim's blood smell still clung to the elf.

Asmordeus was disappointed that the man did not want a drink.  Oh well, conversation was just as good.  Perhaps she could find out a few things from this man.

Angron was fully aware of the things going on, but recognized that the newcomer had to be a Kuglim. Not one of the real Kuglimz it seemed - he looked like a Kuglimz'ura. After closing and locking the door again, the Helvet'ine turned his head towards the newcomer. "You, Plains-man, what was it you wanted again?". Answering his own question by himself, he quietly mumbled something about ale. From under the bar he took out a tankard, filled it with the watery alcohol, and brought it over to the knife-spinning man. He put the tankard down. "Thatīs three sans for the ale...and another 5 sans for a room, including a breakfast." A self-assured smile rushed over Angronīs face as he realized that he knew the prizes by heart. Those were actually no things that he used to keep in mind.

The berserker lumbered over to where the elf, and...the other elf were sitting at. He picked a chair next to the cleric, who had her wolf with her, and sat down. Like the wooden planks of the ceiling, the chair moaned under Angronīs weigth, and even more as he leaned backwards into a more comfortable position. He crossed his muscular, scar-covered arms, and lightly tilted his head into the clericīs direction to get a better look at her. "...so, why did you come down here anyway?" he asked with the hint of a smile.

Pain? PAIN!? Iīm a berserk, dammit! I donīt even know the word pain!!!

Before the elf had a chance to answer Angron came and sat down next to her.  "...so, why did you come down here anyway?" he asked with the hint of a smile.

"Well it seems your new friend," nodding to the wolf, "was concerned about you.  He's smart but not smart enough to open the door.  He never wakes me up at night unless there is something wrong.  I came to see if everything was ok."  Turning to the elf next to her, "This is Quarion Logala.  And this is Angron."

I was hoping to see you again to thank you for earlier.  I have been traveling for quite awhile and perhaps was weaker than I thought." Pointing to the scar in his chest, "That looks infected.  I am sure I have something that will pull the infection out quicker than what you have been using if you want it.  Quarion explained what you were doing."

"I also am very low on coins and need to sell the brooch I showed you earlier and find the town smithy.  I grew up in my father's smithy and perhaps, could work out doing some work for the one here.  If not then perhaps he will let me use his forge to make some more jewelry or a sword or two to sell until I can find work as a cleric."  She was rambling and she knew it.  She was flustered by this big man and not sure why.

Ircurus was pleased that his friend and his mistress were talking.  He looked from one to another and could feel the slight tension between them.  His mistress was slightly nervous?  Here in a strange environment where neither of her talents were unknown may be proving a litlle more trouble than she expected.  Or was it the man making her nervous?

Women are the same, everywhere, no matter what race or tribe... Angron remembered the words as if he heard them yesterday. And it really seemed like it - the elf began to talk, talk, talk. His headache got worse with every word, but it seemed the woman was somehow nervous. "Miss elf, calm down, please...". The Kuglim waited a few moments before he continued. "Donīt fill your day before it has even started...first thing tomorrow, weīll see about that bath you mentioned as you entered the Herald...a swim in the well is quite relaxing...". A sharp pain in his chest let Angron cough a few times before he could continue. It reminded him about what Asmordeus said about the infection. "...it is no infection, Miss elf...the wound is cursed" he added with a slightly superstitious look.

A couple of minutes passed. "...come to think of it...what would you say if we go have that swim right now?". Angronīs lips scooted apart enough to reveal just the tips of his sharp canines. A warm smile. A friendly smile. With a short whistle the Kuglim adressed the wolf. "And you too, Lupo".

a swim now? well that would help relax her.

"I am sorry for the curse and for talking so much. Do call me Asmo, most do.  A swim would b just what I need I think."  Looking to the other elf, "Excuse us."

Ircurus could use a swim himself and thought it a great idea.

Angron turned his head at the question of the other Kuglim. "Three sans, and another 5 if you want to stay for the night."

He stood up as the cleric got ready to go outside, relieving the chair from his weigth. Then, his nose picked up a sharp scent, apparently coming from the new one. "You might want to join us, Plain-lander...Dane i mean...ah, to hell...". With that, Angron walked over to the main door and unlucked it.

((I am not sure how san and money works, but....))

Dane slide 8 sans across the table, and takes the mug, drinking out of it deeply.

"Thanks"

"You might want to join us, Plain-lander...Dane i mean...ah, to hell...".

Dane nods, and gets up as the Kuglim and his "friend " exit the door. Once they have left Dane moves into the doorway for a moment peering out , his large form casting long shadows across the ground

((sorry about responding to you invite slowly, I you post did not show that before, maybe a glitch, or perhaps I am illiterate))

Quarion half-grins. "Go ahead, Asmordeus. And it's a pleasure, Angron." He nods to the large Kuglim, and to the wolf.

The lights within 'The Thirsty Herald' lit up portions of the street as Atrii made his way down the road towards his old 'hangout'. He spent much time within the walls of the comfortable and welcome inn. He also met many of his friends there: Keelin, Shaint, Gararion and many others. That was a long time ago and today as he pushed the door open he didn't expect to see any of them there today. As the door swung open he nearly walked right into a familiar face. The large Kuglim stood towering over him.

"Angron?"

The man who had played with the knife was wanting a drink.   The elf wasn't going with us.  But Angron had invited Dane to join us.

As Angron and Asmordeus walked to the door Ircurus was between them happy to be with his mistress and his new friend.

((when looking at Atriiīs post in the OOC area of the main site, i suggest itīs best to ignore his post here in the TH. Too bad, actually...))

Angron opened the door, breathing in deeply the fresh air of a desertīs night. A full moon was standing high above the dunes, making it quite easy to see, even at this time of night. In a short distance away he could hear the dabbling sound of the well, and the silhouettes of those southern trees that surrounded the oasis - he had forgotten what they were called. Plums? Palms? Something like that...

The night was cool, but then the desert usually was.  They walked the short distance to the oasis and Asmordeus was surprised at how beautiful it was in the moonlight.

Ircurus ran toward the water and jumped in splashing and having a great time.  He came back out long enough to shake and send water droplets all over them.

Asmordeus was not shy about her body.  She undressed down to her undergarments and tested the waters.  They were still slightly warm from the day's sun and felt wonderful enveloping her tired body.  She dove under the water and came up again to find Ircurus back in the water and heading toward her.

She looked to Angron and was glad to have the time to get to know him better.  Perhaps he could give her the information she needed to decide what she was going to do.

The Kuglim had his characteristic grin on his face as he saw the wolf enjoying the water. The grin widened at the sight of Asmordeus going into the water too. Angron unwrapped the deer-hides from his feet and waist and walked into the water, only wearing his loin-cloth. As he dove under, the cool water did good to his headache. He staid under water for a few mments, not moving a bit. Coming up again, he quietly breathed out. Then, breathing in again deeply, the rest of his body began to float up, near to the surface. He was now almost lying in the water horizontally - as if not caring about his heavy weigth. Angron then breathed out all he could, and sank down to the ground of the oasis, waiting, waiting, and waiting...

The water felt so good.  Asmordeus had definitely needed the healing of the waters.  She turned in time to see Angron walk to the edge of the water.  The man was definitely larger than any she had seen.  With only his loin cloth covering him, he seemed a giant to her.  The hint of many scars covered his body.  Had he made them himself like she had been told or were they battle scars?  She watched as he entered the water.

Ircurus came up behind her and she turned towards the wolf.  Laughing at his odd way of paddling, she dove uner him and then came up on the other side of the wolf.  They often played hide and seek in the water.  When she came up she no longer saw Angron anywhere.  Now where had he gone to?

Dane ventured out of the inn, and eventually found The kuglim and elf swimming in the waters of the oasis.

Water, grrr

Though most of Dane's tribe loved water, Dane preferred to keep his feet on solid ground.

Dane sat down, an stared at the full moon, its gray light filtering down leaving semi-shadows across the ground.
The water glistened in the moonlight and it appeared to be of silver.

After watching the water awhile, Dane could not resist the Cool water, and started towards it.
