Ok, the main reason for posting this is to have a larger version of my current sig. It’s all fine and well to say ‘just have a look at my signature’, but sometimes people still don’t seem to understand. So this thread has some general information (#post_general_info) and a list of useful links (#post_linklist).

First of all, there is nothing to download. This is a free-form pbp-RPG (play-by-post role playing game). The name pretty much says it all: For nplay-by-post. The whole game is made up only by these boards. You play out a character and post his actions. Others will react to it and so you create a game. Free-form means that there are no strict rules involved (no dice or manuals). There are still rules of course, but those are mainly based on your own common sense (with story mods to keep an eye on everything). For more info, see the Role Playing Tutorial (link is a bit below).


General information

Account Name

Please keep in mind that your characters name has to be the same as your accounts name and it can’t contains any numbers. Account names can be changed by administrators, so there’s no need to make a new account. If you started with picking a bad name you can ask an administrator if they want to change it for you.

Personalizing your account

Log into your account and click on the (http://www.santharia.com/adv/Themes/santharia/images/english/profile.gif) (http://www.santharia.com/adv/index.php?action=profile) button at the top of the forum.

On your left hand side you will see several links now. Those to personalize your account are under “Modify Profile”. Things you can do:

Account Related Settings
*Change your email address.
*Change your password.
*Change your secret question.

Forum Profile Information
*Add your own avatar, either by linking to an picture online or by uploading one from your computer.
*Add a personal text. Note: It's advised that you write your character's race and tribe here.
*Add your birthdate, location and gender.
*Add your ICQ, AIM, MSN or YIM handle.
*Add or change your signature. You can also prettify text with colours and pictures using SMF Bulletin Board Code (see link to the help page on it further down the page). Don’t forget to check the rules (http://www.santharia.com/adv/index.php?PHPSESSID=0031d800acce855e66a4ac2016a29e89;www;page=17) as there are a few limitations to what can be in a signature.
*Add your homepage.

Look and Layout Preferences
Here you will find various useful options on how the boards are displayed, such as:
*Set your own time zone and how the time is displayed.
*Enable the quick reply boxes.
*Put the most recent posts and messages at the top.

Notifications and Email
Here you can enable or disable when you receive email notifications for topics you are following.

Personal Message Options
Some options on personal messages.


The Claws

The blocks with the links on the left and the Search, Recent Posts,… on the right can be made visible or hidden by simply clicking on the golden claws at the top left and right of each page:

This is the world in which everything happens. Currently all the RPing is in South Sarvonia, although you can have characters from anywhere of course. Wander around a bit if you like, there’s lots of things to read. You can’t read everything though, so it might be useful to start out with those things that you thing you’ll need for your character.

This is a very useful addition to the site made by one of our members. It has two useful calculators:
- Elf Age Calculator & Master Elf Age Calculator: Planning on making an elf? Elves age slower than humans, both physically and mentally. They’ll take a longer time to learn the same things as a human. Note: the aging isn’t linear, so it’s probably best to try and have an outline of what happened when for your character in human years and convert it to elven years.
- Santharian Measures Converter: A useful tool, for converting line and heft measures to Santharian ones. But please don’t copy paste the values you find! Have a look at the link below first and be sure to at least have a vague idea of the length of the measures you use. It makes no sense to have x grains or x mut in your height or weight (unless you’re a brownie).

A list with all the different Santharian measures and the Santharian currency. This list is a bit vague with the line and heft measures. One metre doesn’t equal three feet and a pound isn’t exactly half a kilogramme. This is because it wasn’t meant to be accurate. One ped is exactly one metre, but ‘about’ three feet. For the weights this isn’t too much of a problem, but for the heights this can lead to confusion. If you have trouble converting you can use the converter (see above).

Well, it actually a expansion/replacement of my current sig. I found that just saying 'you can find the links in my sig' didn't always work as well.

They are free to do so if they want. And they are also free to suggest additions if they think something is missing.

That is your account already, look, you are a New Santharian, though your name is not very fitting (well, it is not a name, but more an occupation). Now you can start with doing a CD - you have found the hints already in this thread (there are a lot more, just look around and click!)

You first look up all the information at the main site and read up on all the stuff that you need to know. Then, you come back here, and go to the CD forum and post your character. *nods* If you need any more help, feel free to ask.

Did you even read the first post of this topic? You should find everything in the 'list of useful links' (and if there's something missing, feel free to point it out).

Ne, sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot. I'll change it ASAP.
Now, I'm new here. (Suprise surprise?) And by all means, you might be thinking (when I ask my question) that I didn't read ANYTHING. But in truth, I did. And I'm still a tad bit confused on things.

I'm sorry if what I have to say makes you want to bash your head into the wall. REAL SORRY.
But I prefer to have a good understanding of my surroundings before getting myself into trouble :)

So, my first question(s):

When you make a Character Description thing, how would a person go about choosing the tribe and like. Also, you said something about Elven names? I wasn't to sure about that. I'm pretty sure the name I'm under now (-Adria Darcy-) Isn't what you happen to be asking for, is it?

Now, this might all be because I'm not paticularly the BIGGEST fantasy fan (not to say I don't love it, I do. A lot, but my information is kinda restricted. I can only check so many things at once. Plus, at the moment, all my time is going out to learning Runes. Hehe) I'm very very sorry if this annoys any of you. Or if this seems like a lot of words for questions.

Finding the names of tribes and the like is just a small step over to the Main Site (http://www.santharia.com) and click on the ugly green orc face to get a list of races and tribes.

Elven names tend to be more eloquent and elongated, but it all depends on your character and how you want to play her. Perhaps Adria Darcy is simply a shortened name by which she prefers to be called, rather than having people struggle to say her full name. (People have problems saying my name and it is only 5 letters long XD)

To elaborate a bit on what Kalina said, choosing a tribe (at least how I go about it) is as follows: You have a certain picture of what you want your character to be like, to look like, and so on. Then you go to the main site, as Kali said, and read a little on the different tribes that are available, picking the one that would most fit your character.

Another method is reading the tribes, and if there is one you really like, make your character with that tribe in mind.

You don't need a portrait for your character. That is simply optional.

um where do i go to put my cd in for approval?

Also, your character name and display name need to match. This can be changed by going to your profile and "Account Related Settings".

confused

okay, i am totally confused. how do i create my character? and why does everyone have the name, then human, or whatever they are next to thier name? how do i do that? is there even an actual game to play on this site? because that is the only reason why i evan bothered to join it. im so confused. im usually really good at these types of things, but not on this site. gosh! i hate being a noobie x_o

Go to 'Character Creation' which is the first option under 'Where to Begin' on the sidebar on your left. It will tell you everything you need to know.

The games on this site are basically the equivilant of oldschool paper n pen sitting around the table roleplaying, without the dice. Character creation is an act of artistic creation, developing a character with a backstory, etc.

If your looking for some sort of graphical game, this site is not for you.
If you are looking for a MUD (multi-user dungeon), this site is not for you.
If you are looking to become part of a story, and part of the telling of the same story, this site is designed for you in mind.

You only get back what you lput in here.

I hope this helps, and I hope you actually want to give it a try. I'm having a blast thus far.

one question is possible to have leather plate for armor my idea is basically hard pieces of leather with normal leather in between for good hardness and flexibility? :idea:

That shouldn't be a problem. It sounds like basic leather armor most general mercenaries would have if they wore armor.

hey, i have a question.
I want to be a race that doesn't have tribes listed.
Do i just choose one of the other race's tribes?

i am an ogre. they dont have any listed tribes. do i go with orcs or what? i did that but if i dont, please tell me.

another thing is, what are the restrictions on familiars? can i have a Griffin for a familiar for example?

They do have tribes, you just have to look under which part of Sarvonia you want to be from. Then click on that underneath the "Ogres, the Race" link.

As for familiars, they have to exist and they can't be mythological. Griffons are very very very rare so you would have to take that up with an admin or a CD mod if you wanted one.

Griffons are mythical I think. 

Ah. Well, I looked them up on the site, and they weren't under mythological and this is what the entry says:

You have to distinguish between Gryphs and Gryphons. Gryphons are mythical, Gryphs are not. I remember there being a discussion a while back about Gryphons since there was some confusion about them being mythical or not, from how the entry is written. The final conclusion was that they're mythical.

sorry for asking this but are giant race crossbreeds possible? such as a troll ogre or a human troll? those would be cool but very powerful.

If you look at the menu to the left hand side of your screen there is a menu, under "General. Information", click on "Racial Crossbreeding". There you should find the answer to your question.

It is highly unlikely that any other race can crossbreed with trolls, simply because they are not likely to survive the mating. What self-respecting troll would want an ogre or human anyway? Anyhow, even were such a cross possible, it would be unplayable since the tribes of the trolls are underdeveloped.

I have a question im trying to decide on a title for my character and I can across the title "Heroine" what exactly is that I know its a female hero but is there more to that or no? Please Help.Thanx.

Heroine just means female hero. You might want to think of having an adjective before the noun heroine to make it more unique, or perhaps have it as heroine of something. Hope that helps.

In my opinion, the best way to get ideas for a title is to look at the titles of other characters. Just don't copy anyone, you want to be original and unique after all.

Huh - make sure you are logged in and check your cookie settings.

My first question is "What browser are you using?" I have also found that certain firewall settings play havoc with Santharia. In this regard I would encourage you to 'trust all content' from the site and shutdown popup blocker if you are using McAffee.

i am completely new and i am having a hard time with creating a character. any tips at all. ive been to the character creation but im still having problems. is this name ok: erynn narello. if not can someone tell me where i can find elvish names??

Welcome!

If you look at the left hand bar and the menu icons at the top, you'll see the words Swap Menu just below the images. Hit that and you'll get a new set of icons and the little symbol-deal four in will take you the languages menu. There you will find a Styrash (elvish) dictionary and tips on the language.

As for creating a character, your best bet is just look for some inspiration. Books, movies, art, poems, whatever you enjoy, take from these mediums a concept that you would like to see in a character. Reading random entries on the site helps a lot of people as well. Also, browsing our Character Description Forum (http://www.santharia.com/adv/index.php/board,23.0.html) can usually spark some creativity!

How do i play this!!!!

To play you have to have a character to play with. This character needs to be approved, so you have to write a character description, or CD. This CD must has several components, explanations can be found here (http://www.santharia.com/adv/index.php?page=12). So need to get an idea for your CD, do a bit of research and then write up your CD. Once you have that, Mods, as well as other players, will give you comments, you change the CD accordingly and eventually you get your CD approved. Then you can join a story and play. For more information check out the first post of this thread, links on the menu to the left, which are also in my signature, and check out this wonderful site (http://www.santharia.com). :grin:

I have a question and I am not sure if this is the correct forum. How do I retrieve Damien Scar's picture for his CD?

Damien's CD is an approved character. The problem is I cannot log in his name on the site.

The Administration can reset the password and bring the character up for you. I am not sure that he still has a picture though, and I don't think simply reactivating him will bring it up. We may have to dig for it, Capher.

Just a heads up, but the links to avatars do not work.  I suggest you delete them and put in new ones that actually work...I had a devil of a time looking for free avatar pictures to use.  Of course I am also not computer literate either :buck:

To the left, under portraits.  I checked them, and they no longer work.  But, I'm not sure how to proceed next.

I'm sorry to be such a bore, but I was thinking of creating a new character from Remusia. When I made Anirdulf, there was a list of name components in the Avennorian Men entry but I've looked at the ice-tribes general entry and the Remusian specific entry and can find nothing like that.

Over on the development side, there are a list of Remusian words that can be used to be put into First and surnames for the Remusians. The fourth or so note down in this thread (http://www.santharia.com/dev/index.php/topic,12181.0.html) over there has a series of syllables etc for Remusian names.

You do have to create a whole new account which, sadly, means you have to have a separate e-mail address for it as well.

As for making a second CD, pretty much do what you did for the first one. :)

You can also create an account with a false email address, because they don't send a validation email, but then you have to be absolutely sure that you'll remember your password cause they use the email in case you lose your password :)

Or, if you ask us Admins nicely...we can reset your PW if you forget it :p
