Title: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One

Here you go, Mods.  Congrats.  Beware the paint, it's still wet. :D

Thanks Alt! I'll be setting things up shortly. Just FYI, Caol is the mod, not Morden. ;)

EDIT: Joining requests thread has now been created, so as soon as we have enough players, the fun can begin!

The first post is up! All of those who are attending the funeral should now post their characters arriving in the city and reaching Caol's house, where Koros will be to direct you to your seats. Let the fun begin! :D

Enter the one-armed swordswoman!  It sounds like a kung fu film!   :P  Anyway, hope my first post is acceptable!

Most acceptable, thank you! I too have posted. Still waiting on some more entrances from my new players...

Just so it's clear, is everyone sitting together? Are we moved about a little? It'd be helpful in case I can't actually make conversation with anyone.

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Caol Johannes on July 07, 2009, 12:15:14 PM
I have space people out a little bit. Right now, Eyimon is sitting across from Salkrazian. All the info on where those who have posted so far are sitting is explained in my last post. I hope I made things clear enough for you guys in that post, if not just tell me what the confusion is about and I'll do my best to set things straight.

The writer would like to apologise for Salkazrian's vulgar and sexually suggestive language; but you know what soldiers are like!   :P

Things should get interesting when she sees Grial!   ;)

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Grial on July 09, 2009, 07:15:40 PM
@Salkazrian, that I would like to see too !

Just a side note , probably I didnīt made myself totally clear on my first post ( poor english  :buck:) , but Grial is always with Lyra , where he goes , she goes too , after all he is her guardian ...

Great posts everybody! I'll be getting a reply going shortly for those waiting to be seated.

@Salkrazian: Ximaxian magical "enhancements"...sounds like a great dev entry. :buck:

@Salka: Oh. Wow. That's going to be fun to respond to. Eyimon was raised by monks. He's missing an eye because he doesn't get women. Expect... strangeness.

lol Eyimon; it's strange enough already!

*waves at everyone* Hullo, all! This is my first story ever and I'm extremely excited about it. I get enthusiastic about things pretty easily  :buck:  for Caol/Morden for putting together such an intriguing storyline. It's like reading an excellent novel, I can't wait to see what happens next...

Eyimon+Salkazrian, or indeed Salkazrian+any male= strange but brilliant and very entertaining. We're getting a great mix of characters on this story, I think. It's going to make for some interesting dynamics  ;)

@Grial- Poor English? Don't put yourself down, you seem very fluent to me and you've got across what you want to say perfectly  :) Besides, now I can write into my next post that I didn't think Lyra could possibley be with you and be all shocked.

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Salkazrian on July 11, 2009, 01:28:11 AM
Nice to see you here, Jenna; I look forwards to rping with you!

@ Eyimon - I was having a read of your CD and noticed something.  In the appearance section, it says that the left eye is missing, but in the weaknesses section it's the right one!   :P

I mentioned in my post that it was the left one that's missing; just let me know if you want me to change it.

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Eyimon Sorossa on July 11, 2009, 01:43:18 AM
Really? Wow. Not good! I'd meant it to be hist left eye in any case.  :undecided:

I was about to say, weren't Godwin and his wife sitting next to Scriabin?

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Deklitch Hardin on July 15, 2009, 10:01:38 PM
Jenna, up to you as to how well Jenna and Dek got to know each other at the Kann. I hope I left it open enough for you to respond as you wish ... if not, I'll modify that post.

Caol, interesting story, I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Salkazrian on July 16, 2009, 12:14:32 AM
Hmm, I'm a little confused about who's sitting where!   :P

I thought that Godwin and his wife were sitting next to Toama, and I kind of assumed that they were all on a different table to Salkazrian and Eyimon.  Just because Twigga mentioned that Godwin sat next to a dark-haired, sun-tanned young lady.  Salk has got light coloured hair and is only slightly tanned.

Still, I can adapt things in my next post if need be.  Though I'll also probably be having a word with Grial!

So, just for clarity's sake, could one of the mods post here in the OOC who's where?

I know I'm a pain, but it'd be much appreciated!  Thanks!   :)

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Jenna Silverbirch on July 16, 2009, 03:22:12 AM
Salkazrian= Ah, you never fail to make me chuckle. It's nice to see a santharian with a bawdy sense of humour. Just don't tell Eyimon what's been going through your head... or HIS head might explode   Grial better watch out!

@Dek(can I call you that? :D)   I was going to ask you if you thought we should play that we remember each other from the Kann myself  :) I think they'd be moderately acquainted- not the best of friends, but still fairly friendly, if that's okay.

@Caol  This is probably a pretty stupid question, but we're allowed to start talking to the NPCs at our table, right? (In my case Myrach)

Oh, and everyone, feel free to initially mistake me for a boy  Or not, if you don't want to. Either way, it spices up the story a little, as Kolos has but Grial hasn't.

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Toama SorInyt on July 16, 2009, 04:22:12 AM
Salkazrian: there's this bit, which would suggest that I am at the same table as both the two of you and sir Godwin.
Quote
"Greetings, lovely one! That is an excellent choice of color, very fitting of you. I'm sure the dear lord Johannes would have been delighted to see you. Please, come this way, if you would," with that he led the women to the table where the White Knight and one-armed soldier already sat. They appeared to be conversing lightly between themselves, so far ignoring the nobleman Godwin and his wife.

Does that help? Note that in my previous post, I didn't actually say at which table I was seated, as I wanted to leave the moderator the option to seat me ;)

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Caol Johannes on July 16, 2009, 06:55:03 AM
OK, I have sorted through my own posts to clear the confusion (which probably resulted from the fact that I have long posts which would make it all too easy to miss details like this).

There are three tables at which I am sitting players:

Group 1
NPCs - Godwin and Estrilda
Eyimon
Salkrazian
Taoma

Group 2
NPCs - Terric and Aldred
Scriabin
Twigga

Group 3
NPCs - Myrach and Waleran (Myrach's servant)
Grial
Jenna
Dek

There should be a pic soon so that you can get an idea of where each table is, but for now assume they are close to each other, but with an intervening table or two in between them. Also the tables are rectangular, running the length of the room, and if you looked at them from the doorway, they would lengthwise down the room. Hope that all makes senses and is helpful. If not, or if I missed anybody, don't hesitate to tell me.

Banquet map (http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv264/mahjongg54/chart.jpg?t=1247698797)

Tell me if I missed anything! :P

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One

Group 3
NPCs - Myrach and Waleran (Myrach's servant)
Grial
Jenna
Dek

So ... with Jenna, Grial's ward and myself all at this table, and with Grial, Myrach and Waleran there to make sure we don't do anything 'wrong' does that mean that this is the Santharian equivalent of the kiddies table at family gatherings? If so, I bags the crayons and get to tell the knock-knock joke!

Tell me if I missed anything! :P

Thanks for the map, Twigga. Just two things I can see ...

1) Waleron, the servant should be at table 3 (I don't think he's anywhere at the moment.)
2) Grial's ward should be given a chair as well, perhaps?

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Twigga Knosst on July 16, 2009, 12:22:36 PM
Waleran, as Myrach's personal servant/jester, is lurking behind his master's chair, being too lowly to be honored with a chair. We are, after all, talking about Myrach.

Good point about Grial. I'll fix that as soon as I can. :)

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Salkazrian on July 16, 2009, 02:11:32 PM
Okay, things are much clearer now, thank you!  The map helped a lot!  Seems I got confused, but there's nothing unusual about that!   :P

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Jenna Silverbirch on July 17, 2009, 12:22:46 AM
That's really helpful, thankyou twigga and caol. You should post that diagram somewhere more accsesible in the sticky topics, so any new players can get their bearings. I like being able to visualise things. I mean, when reading lord of the rings I kept flicking back and re-reading tolkein's descriptive passages so I could visualise perfectly whether the river was on there left or right and what direction they were travelling in, etc. etc.
You can have the crayons dek, as long as you draw us some lovely kyrattin cattle  :D
That being said, Jenna's not going to appreciate being mistaken for a child, as she's technically the oldest PC here!  (though if you're being pedantic, Salkazrian and Eyimon are the oldest by maturity as Jenna is, by hobbit standards, in her twenties :buck:)

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Grial on July 17, 2009, 06:17:07 PM
Actually I believe Grial is the oldest , being 58 , but who is counting  :buck:.

Anyway I will post as soon as possible ...

Post by: Jenna Silverbirch on July 18, 2009, 05:26:11 AM
Oh, and Alexandre and Galthas(53 and 120 respectively) are older than me too... sorry about my mistake, everyone, I was feeling rather tired and not entirely functional last night, and so was jumping to assumptions and not making very much sense  :P

Also: oh, the tension is building very nicely   This story is so intriguing!

Banquet map: Edited 7-23-09 (http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/vv264/mahjongg54/Santharia/chart.jpg?t=1248406088)

It's bigger! No more need to squint at the screen! :buck:

There should be a stickied thread coming up soon in which maps and diagrams are posted as needed as the story progresses. Once it's up, the banquet diagram will be posted there. :)

Before someone decides to get uppity (the nobles in particular), members of the Santhran's Orders (White Knights, the Order of the Fallen and the Paladins of Armeros among others) rank above landed nobles and thanes, being essentially the "Long arm of the law" among other things. They are listed third, after the Santhran and the Council of Linked Hands in the hierarchy here, which I assume has some significance: [source] (http://www.santharia.com/ranks_and_titles/ranks_and_titles_santharian.htm#Ranks%20Hierarchy)

It's a shame I wrote Eyimon the way he is. He could be throwing around authority like a flail.

Terribly, terribly sorry for the lack of posting everyone. I've been away for a week(in a muddy wood with twenty odd girl guides, no less) and foolishly, knowing I was busy, left my IC post and my absence notification till the last minute and had no time to actually post them.
So hello again, everyone, especially to the newcomers! Now to incorporate everything that has happened into my post...

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Jenna Silverbirch on July 26, 2009, 06:09:29 PM
It's great to be back, Twigga  I'm having an indecently good time with this story.
I should also probably mention that being a hobbit, and a rather forward hobbit at that, Jenna is still fairly naive about the workings of big folk society, so doesn't see Eyimon as a figure of much authority, hence her rather disrespectful attitude in the last post. :D

Ah, the more I rp as her, the more psychologically complex Jenna becomes  :buck: It's high time I dug her cd out of the archives and tweaked it here and there. I'm planning on adding that she's missing a chunk of hand and most of her little finger on her left, scarred arm, in case anyone wants to mention it in the story.

And finally- I've just realised both versions of the seating plan have vanished from photobucket, Twigga   Or did you deliberately remove them now it's posted on the NPC thread?
EDIT: having just seen Grom's post and taking a look through everyone's CDs, I realise he's missing a little finger as well! I didn't mean to copy, Grom- but the idea must have subconsciously lodged in my brain when I took a look at your cd a while back

Title: Re: Death's Invitation OOC: Chapter One
Post by: Twigga Knosst on July 27, 2009, 12:28:11 AM
I was actually organizing my photo album and moved the map to a different folder, which changed the address, and since it's now in the stickied thread for easier access, I just didn't bother to fix it in the OOC. :) Sorry if there was any confusion.

Another orc; poor Salkazrian!

I'll be in the Philippines for the next couple of weeks, so probably won't be able to post much.  I'll try to get a reply done soon, though, so that I don't hold things up!   :)

Oh, and just one small quibble, Jenna; Salk hasn't drawn her sword!   ;)

I'm enjoying this story, too; it's great to have an opportunity to role play with this character, and to interact with everybody.   :D

I think about half the player characters are injured in one way or another.

@Jenna: Eyimon wouldn't try to impose his will on anyone (unless they were doing some like disturbing the peace. It was more a case of, the nobles should know that this fellow is further up in the pecking order than they are.

I would be active, but unfortunately, I will be away for eight days, from tomorrow until the following Wednesday. Hopefully my post leaves enough loose ends and such to keep any story involving me moving until I come back.

Fortunately I am off to the swiss alps and shall be walking from hotel to hotel across the mountain passes, walking 20km in one day at the most and with a maximum ascent of fourteen thousand metres (roughly four and a half thousand feet, I think) and a max descent of sixteen thousand metres. Now that's a long way for hobbit-sized legs to travel!

I'm getting rather excited about it, I must say (but then I am guilty of being frequently over-enthusiastic :D)

*crickets chirp*
Morden, Twig? You folks still around?

*a hobbit lass peeks into the thread, then tiptoes in, although by doing so really only draws more attention to herself, her movements are so exaggerated. Stopping, she sets down a pie dish and whips off the covering cloth, using it to whip the delicious aroma around. Then she sneaks back off once more, snickering a little.* Aha! If the smell of fresh baked apple pie don't bring morden back, why, you can knock me down and call me susan!

Seriously, though. I see twigga's active in destiny again. But if our main man morden doesn't return in another few months, did he leave enough info concerning the story to warrant a take-over and some new mods?

I'd definitely be willing to help out with any of that. I have plenty of time on my hands in the next couple of months before Spring. But that's just an offer.

It would great to see this up and running again, as it seemed like it was going to take an interesting direction.

When I see Morden again, I will be asking him what he wants to do with this.  We shall see if we can do something to save this story. :(

I certainly hope we can save it, altario  :undecided: I'd be very willing to help in the resurrection process, too, if it comes to that. I've seen morden lurking around fairly recently, but he hasn't posted anything for ages. Has anyone else had contact with him recently, or can contact him?
