Title: Read First
Post by: Drea on January 28, 2010, 02:49:50 PM
Dear potential co-writers.  This is an experiment.  The story I have invented has no conventional plot or storyline.  Instead, it is a sandbox.  What I am creating is a free form type story.

The location of this story is the city of New Santhala.  It takes place near the palace of the king, Santhran Tiandor.  Built around his palace are many embassies.  These are for each of the provinces of Santharia, as well as for any tribe or country outside of Santharia.  Think of it as a Sarvonian United Nations.  Thus, there is much room for political intrigue, for any type of person, from any place in the world of Caelereth.  Of course, we can't have the King of Santharia declare war on Nybelmar or anything, but we can have secrets, missions, underhandedness.  All the things real politicians do!  Lord knows there isn't much they won't do! :P

I have started the story by creating the embassy for the Province of Vardynn.  I have placed myself in that story and created a few NPC characters to start it off.  Now, I can continue this story on my own, needing no one else to join, in essense, writing my own novel.  However, if you or anyone else wants to join in the story, you are most welcome to.  You cannot puppet me, or any other PC, but, you can use any of the NPCs any way you see fit.  Do not kill anyone without my express approval, of course.  As well, feel free to create your own NPCs, keeping in mind that they need to fit within the environment.  For example, the Ambassador from Vardynn will be Kembar Fruwee, so, you cannot create another ambassador to Vardynn in order to further your story.  You must use him.  Gorvold Aeris is the Castellan of the embassy, and as such, is the man in charge of the embassy in terms of its running, so you cannot create someone who does those duties.  As well, what happens by one players story happens in all stories, so all must coordinate within an embassy.  If there is a death in my story, then everyone must acknowledge it.  Say, for instance, I killed off Aeris (which won't happen, he's too much fun) then he will be dead to everyone who is playing.  Or if he broke his leg.  Or got fired.  Or, whatever we come up with.  As he is my creation, I ask you get permission before doing anything important to him.  As I will do before doing anything to one of your creations.  Other than that, create any NPC that you need.

Conversely, if you wish, you can create your own embassy.  Not Vardynn's, but any other you might wish.  I ask that it make sense for your character to be in it.  For example, it makes little sense for a Remusian character to create an embassy for the Dogodan Hobbits and be part of it.  (Sorry Altario!).  If someone else has created the Dogodan embassy, and you wish to join that story and get permission from the creator of that embassy, then that is something different.  How you get involved can then be roleplayed.

Now, you may be wondering why I have decided to try this new style of story.  Or, you may not.  Either way, the reason was from the lack of action seen lately on the boards.  One of the reasons I had heard, was that there was too much restriction on ones character within a story, that it took too long between posting and having someone else respond.  I'm hoping that this relieves some of that.  That it relieves some of the pressure on mods to not have to spoon feed everything to fellow players.  Most of all, I'm hoping to create a fun place to post.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. :D

4. Thou shalt be true to the character of your character.
5. Thou shalt make sense.
6. Thou shalt not kill other characters or decide what damage they get.
7. Thou shalt be patient for other characters to post.

10. Thou shalt not decide thy neighbor’s actions, or his wife's actions, or his ox's actions....

Posting Guidlines

As a general rule of the players in The Palace, there is a minimum post length. The post window that we enter our post into would be sufficient length for a minimal post. This will force us all to try just that much harder to make this an enjoyable experience for every player. Thanks for your cooperation, we are all capable of posts of this length.

Absences
In addition, please try and keep your character active. If you're going to be absent for more than a week, post in the appropriate thread to let us know, or you will be removed from the story.
