Since R'vahr speaks four languages I have a legend for his thought/speech colors. The chart below should be helpful when rping with The Hunter in Darkness.

Apearance

R'vahr has an athletic body, as he is careful to keep himself healthy. His Nor'sidian skin seems to drink in the light. The underlying form embodies youth and vigor, accentuated by the tight  muscles sliding under his skin like an orchestra of sensuality. His shape is lithe and long, which further displays the sexual side of his appearance.

He has dark features with razor thin lips and a hard jaw. While his smiles are usually smug grins, full laughter will reveal white teeth and sharp canines. The defined ridges of his cheeks lead into a sharp chin over which resides a large and sharp nose. His eyes are expressive, with irises so dark that one cannot distinguish the pupil from the iris. The edges of the iris are flecked with golden stripes, much like a hawks or eagles. He is very exotically attractive, especially when displaying his roguish grin. Some would even call him beautiful. His face is kept clean and sharp, though if he were to allow the beard to grow out it would be sparse and boyish. R'vahr's hair is naturaly Nor'sidian, and silkily smooth. He tends to dye it white when he can afford the expense, however, appealing to the interesting contrast. The lightest he can get it is a pale gray. He keeps it long, slightly past his shoulders usually, and sometimes puts it in a clean ponytail. A few strands usually slide in front of his gleaming eyes, giving him a darkly attractive stare. His eyebrows are thin and dark, and their sharp curves give him a sort of seductive expression.

Usually his expression is calm and inviting, with the hint of a grin. He embodies animalistic sensuality. He is the height of male sexual prowess and most women find themselves amazingly attracted to him. His voice is like black chocolate being poured on a storm cloud, and can send a woman wild when uttering soft nothings into her ear.

In the rare occasion of anger R'vahr's face contorts into a mask of animalistic rage, his nostrils flare wide and his lips quiver and froth. His body tenses and his already hard muscles become as bands of steel sliding just beneath his skin. His hands curl into fists and he hunches over with a rabid snarl, his canines laid bare by his writhing lips.

R'vhar has strong and nimble fingers and feet that he uses to scale the black mountains and volcanoes of the R'unorian Isles. His hands are rough and calloused and his feet even more so. His nails are roughly trimmed and thick. His body is similar to that of a warrior, though more lithe and flexible.

He is very proud of is appearance and likes to show off his body, so his clothing usually has openings at the chest. He is not one to be modest.

Clothing

A heavy nor'sidian robe of exceptional quality is swathed about his hard frame in the colder months. The hood is usually up over his head and shading his face. The robe's arms flare out slightly as they reach the wrists, and the hems are bordered in Karikrimson weaves. The robes are embroidered with thin red lines that cunningly depict animals and monsters. A burning Scorcher wraps around the left arm several times, and a dragon weaves around the right. On the back is a large turtle, just as the R'unor coat of arms. The robes have several hidden pockets that a customs officer would have a hard time discovering. The inside is lined with deep black and grey furs which keep him warm.

The robe is kept immaculately clean, being a gift from his father, and has a great amount of sentimental value to him. It is a traditional Phthian ceremonial robe and as such is of rich fabrics and rare dyes. Made for the harsh conditions of his home Isle it is able to withstand most of what nature can dish out.

R'vahr can usually be found wearing a black leather jacket and tough leather trousers. They are ornate and well built, each carries symbols of meaning to him.

Upon the left breast of the jacket is the turtle insignia of his home and the right sports a stylized eagles eye. He usually wears no shirt under the jacket, which has no clasps. His muscled chest is laid bare, which he likes just fine. Upon the back of the jacket a flaming Scortcher is depicted. The leather of this garment is strong and well made. Both breasts also have six pockets which he can store small things in.

Usually both of his hands are covered by his black leather gloves. Each is light and thin, and strong enough for outdoor use. They are smooth and seem to drink in the light. An expert embroidery of the insignia of the R'unorian turtle decorates the backhand of the left, and a scorcher wraps around the right. The palms of the gloves are thick and cured in a certain way so that he may throw his moondeath without slashing his hands open.

To keep the show of impressiveness, he wears a thick, blood red sash about his waist. This silken sash is also part of his fathers ceremonial robes. It has a stylized turtle masterfully crafted of black iron as a buckle. Also well cared for and made of fine, strong materials, the sash holds all three of his hunting tools. The two fangs and his Moondeath.

He wears light black leather boots, softly soled so as to be quiet; his thickly calloused feet allow him to walk over hard igneous rock with these thin boots.

He wears no jewelry aside from the stylized turtle brooch on his left breast for the people of his birth, and a couple eagle's feathers woven into his hair for the Eyelians, who are the people of his soul.

Weaknesses

R'vahr has deep rooted flaws, most stemming from his passionate immaturity. He is rash and youthful in action. He is known to get himself in trouble with an invalid boast, or for a woman, no matter her guilt. He is susceptible to violent mood swings and acts irrationally almost at random. His heart fills with fire and his mind is clouded, he takes onto his passion and lets his spirit control his body. This can get him into situations of which he has a hard time escaping.

R'vahr feels a need to be accepted. His lifestyle of shifting from one place to the next leaves him without strong permanent human bonds. He feels lonely and lacks the strong love of a lasting mate. Quick fixes of passion and lust rarely calm his sorrow, and he can try to drown out the pain with various drugs in moments of weakness. This leaves him vulnerable to those he has already angered with his passion.

While usually amiable and peaceful, R'vahr hates orcs with a passion. He sees them as the destroyers of everything that is good, and can never trust them. The hunter rarely gives them a second's chance, labeling them as things that must be killed upon recognition. This would not be such a weakness, if not for the fact that they are so much more powerful than he is, and tend to respond to situations with outright violence. R'vahr will never be able to accept anyone who allies themselves with an orc, and cannot trust, follow, or listen to them until they have shunned the beast as a monstrosity.

Because of his natural talent with other people, especially women, some grow very envious of R'vahr. People who are base and crude find his success to be an insult to themselves, especially if they feel he is moving in on their territory. R'vahr does not think of people as his or hers, simply as people. He does not understand how he could be offending the men in a bar if all the girls are surrounding him and giggling. He just sees them as people who want affection, love, and to be desired. These envious dregs are also, sadly, the kind of people who find that they must stoop to violent action to solve their problems, and instead of becoming better, more enlightened people by his example, usually try to have his legs broken. R'vahr, also regrettably, needs his legs.

Because of his wild lifestyle, R'vahr has a hard time sleeping. When he eventually does fall into a slumber it is anything but deep. He awakens at the slightest sound. He has a hard time getting a full night's rest. These bouts of insomnia can last for weeks, though as with all cases of sleep deprivation, symptoms disappear after one good nights rest. Lack of sleep can cause: Lack of judgment, physical weakness, lack of motivation, slow thought process, hallucination, difficulty staying awake, and other various symptoms.

R'vahr loves women. Their beauty transcends sight and the voice of a pretty girl can send him spinning. He could be hunted by the town guard and be sitting in plain sight flirting with some girl. Though women tend to like him back, the devious ones will sometimes try to use him. He will get in serious trouble for a cute smile, and will risk his life for a street address. If he finds a woman in need, even if she is the original perpetrator, he will come to her aid.

R'vahr is very trusting, and cannot conceive that he himself could have enemies. He feels that everybody should like him, and if they don't, they simply don’t know who he is. He would trust any human, elf, gnome, halfling... anything but a dirty orc or orc lover. Because of this, anybody who actually perceives him as an enemy has an easy time figuring out what his weaknesses are, and using his bad habits against him. Usually getting him drunk and high to the point were he cannot protect himself.

R'vahr would never kill a man preemptively. Unless he was attacked or felt that he needed to protect somebody that was being attacked, the hunter would never use violence. Because of this, others have an easy time getting the first blow in on R'vahr. These are usually the base sort of envious person who seeks to break his legs. This, of course, excludes orcs. While R'vahr will not simply attack them, he does not find it evil to kill an orc while he is not looking. Their kind needs to be culled.

Strengths

R'vahr is strong and agile, with a body like that of a Ju'bat. He is sleek and lean, yet under his thin flesh are bands of coiled steel, ready to snap into movement at any moment. He moves swiftly, his light body allowing him to flow like water where others tumble like flowing rocks. He is nimble in action and his hard sinewed body gives him the strength one needs to survive on their own. He is hard from living in the wild his whole life, never being given the mercy to rest. The hunter is in constant motion.

R'vahr is a hunter of massive prowess. He can sneak just as well as most assassins, and with greater skill then most, when he is hunting in the wild. He can track his prey down, then close in on wild game enough to use his deadly fangs. He is silent, without scent, he knows how to become the shadows around him, and how to use the foliage as cover. His skill allows him to slink across the earth as any predator on the hunt. Once he has found that which he seeks, he downs it with an explosive leap and stab with his fangs.

R'vahr's "fangs" are very well made and are sharper than glass. Each slides through flesh like a hot knife through butter. The hardness and razor sharpness of Black Iron is renowned. The black fangs tend to intimidate would be foes with their wicked serration’s and curved blades, each almost a fore long.

The hunter also has a MoonDeath of good quality. He can use this to kill small animals, though it does not have the power to take down big game. He is fairly skilled with it's use, and can accurately throw it up to four peds. After reaching it's target, it quickly curves back to the thrower. The hunter uses this ability to an advantage. R'vahr must wear his gloves, which are specially crafted to catch the moondeath, as the weapon lacks the usual cross bar, and is simply a ring of sharp silver. Without them the weapon would slice his hand open when he threw it.

R'vahr's senses are much more acute than a regular man's, in fact, they are closer to that of a wild animal. He has eyes like a hawk, and ears like a cat. His senses can be used in various ways. R'vahr likes to use them to show off, but they are extremely useful in finding what cannot be seen. He seems to almost have a sixth sense, this in fact is simply his ability to notice and react. In the wild, being observant is the difference between life and death.

His body is amazingly sensually attractive. Women find it hard to resist him, and usually he needs no aid when searching for a companion to keep his tavern bed warm.

He is kind and extrovertive, and has no trouble with people skills. Something about him makes others trust him, and like him. His sweet and passionate love leave the women who he stays with loving him in return when he has to depart, instead of feeling abused.

R'vahr is no dummy, and displays a quick cunning and wit. He is a problem solver and a quick learner. He can formulate plans and put them to action, and his natural charisma allows him to get others to follow his plans.

Personality

The hunter in darkness has a soft spot for women, and usually finds himself trusting them without a thought. While his relationships are short-lived, he rarely lacks a few girls to hang around with, with his body and personality. He loves to
hear them speak, and their touch exhilarates him, he can almost always be found near a woman. Sometimes his little hobby gets him in trouble, though he likes the feel of danger and the unknown.

Even more so than women, orcs get R'vahr in trouble. He hates orcs with a liquid rage, it is his blood. His tribe has been under siege by orcish hordes for centuries, and he cannot forgive them for the crimes they have committed. Any orc is a being to be mistrusted and hopefully lynched. R'vahr can never trust any orc, or any of orc blood. He does not listen to reason when around Orc flesh, his mind thinks only of how to kill them.

R'vahr is very extrovertive, with a talkative spirit and amiable nature. He is outgoing and has no trouble striking up a conversation. He loves to be around people, and trusts almost any human to the point of flaw. It is not rare for him to be telling the tale of how he hunted down that giant wolverine in some tavern or another. He is very charismatic and others tend to trust him, and listen to him. He is charming, and passionate. His connection with life is strong, and others can almost see the will to be alive and the joy at being so alive burning across his flesh.

The women he has been with over the years rarely have anything bad to say about him, even after he leaves them for his adventures. He is so loving and affectionate, and his love so free and genuine, that they find it hard to begrudge him for his departure. His kindness and sweet passion leave an imprint of his affections on those he loves. Also, since the girls are usually given the best night they will ever have in their lives, their eyes are usually dreamy rather than furious.

Despite his skill at hunting, R'vahr finds violence detestable. The hunt is a dance to him, an art form, a prayer. It serves a purpose and is a part of life. Without the culling of the weak, a herd is wracked with sickness and death. He kills his prey as painlessly as possible and thanks them for their sacrifice. He understands that by imbibing their flesh, they become an eternal part of him, and live on. Thus by the hunt, and the inherent circle that life is, we all live on forever. R'vahr will be the first to say violence is not the answer. He will be open and up front on his feelings about a person, but would rather settle them over a few beers and some intelligent discussion, or if the person be female, a bed. He will only resort to violence if he must to protect the innocent and weak, himself, or a woman.

With his natural cunning and deeply inquisitive mind, the hunter in darkness likes to keep an edge on modern thought. Whenever he comes upon a town or settlement, he keeps his sharp ears open for knowledge. He has shadowed many scholars of R'unor and understands, in theory, how many of their mechanical wonders operate. Because of this, sprinkled within his speech are deep insights and complex verbiage. He likes to impress others when a chance is given.

R'vahr loves to push his abilities and body to their extremes. as with his mind. He lives for a challenge, and if a quest is put in such context he will likely join up, especially if there will be female company. While R'vahr lacks common sense he has a great deal of wit and guile to see him though till morning.

He feels that he has to impress people, and rise above their shallow expectations. This of course holds especially true with females.

Belongings

R'vahr owns very little, most of it is either made by himself, stolen, or his by birthright. R'vahr keeps most of his items in a knapsack which is slung over his right shoulder, leaving his left arm free.

Items that he might need quickly are stored in various pockets within his jacket, leggings, gloves, boots, robes, etc. These are usually flint, string, money, and such. That which R'vahr does have, he is very possessive over. R'vahr's senses usually take hint of potential thieves, and he does not take kindly to their potential actions.

He also has a well made spear, which is made for hunting larger game at a distance. His he usually carries as a walking stick. His fangs are usually stuck in his karikrimson sash, with the handles turned just so, that they should be quickly accessible. His silver MoonDeath is kept safe at his hip, in a quick release sheath. Lastly he carries at his hip a dagger. It has an obsidian blade, and a handle in the shape of an eagle.

Weapons

One of R'vahr's Fangs.

R'vahr's main tools are his fangs. He is fast and agile, yet true close combat is beyond him. Instead they are used for hunting. The fangs in and of themselves are masterfully crafted weapons, and a great advantage. They are sharp and hard, being made of ancient Black Iron. The insignia of the R'unorian turtle is carefully etched onto the blade of one fang,  and an eagle's eye is depicted on the other.

He also carries at his hip a beautiful silver MoonDeath. He knows how to use the weapon, though he has never used it in a battle situation. Instead it is for killing small prey in the winter, when big game is scarce. The sheath it is kept in is fashioned so that the weapon can be easily retrieved from it's grasp. Etched around the circumference is a burning Scorcher.

History

R'vahr's mother was from the R'mart tribe and had some political power, she was wed to his father in hopes of bringing the Phthia clan out of its isolationist rut and into the modern day. The attempt failed though, as Shi'thia fell in love with the lifestyle of the Phthia, and Hen'net. She adapted to their ways, and married Hen'net out of love.

Hen'net was a great hunt-leader of his village and one of the greatest hunters on the R'unorian Isles. He was a strong of spirit and a master of the wild.

Having staved off continual orcish raids and even one full-scale battle, Hen'net was also a respected warrior of his people. He'net's village had many bitter battles with orcs attempting to attack the nearby Ironclaw, the warriors and their brilliant leader repelled each, though not without casualties. Many of R’vahr’s dearest friends were killed brutally by orcs. Because of the brutality he faced in his younger years at the hands of the orcish race, R’vahr despises their kind as brutes and ignorant violent ones at that. Even when shown evidence to prove otherwise, he contends that the orc is simply trying to gain his trust so that it may break his heart as well as his bones. He learned to cure the wounds of battle the hard way, having to suture those who were cut by the orcs on their many vicious raids against his home. Though he takes the skill with him, it is not scars of its own.

When entering battle against the raiders, Hen'net wore black ceremonial robes with a red sash about his wrist for his son and another wrapped around his waist for his wife. Upon his arms he boasted twin bladed gauntlets that had been passed down the ages, family heirlooms. These objects became the representation of justice against chaos and truth and beauty against uglyness and ignorance. They symbolized the ability for love to conquer hate.

Despite his prowess for the art, Hen'net hated battle, and vowed that the art of war would not pass onto his son. He knew that love was the only reason man was alive, and taught his son how to love and be loved. R'vahr learned how to love women, nature, and life itself. Also, he was taught of the hunt. He would never teach his only son the complex use of bladed gauntlets. Instead he had two strange daggers formed, each resembling a snake's fang. The handle curved back so that the blades were ninety degrees from the wielders hand.

R'vahr quickly learned how to be one with nature, and how to live off of the land. He would use the fangs to bless his prey with a quick death by slicing the vital arteries in the throat.

Despite his father's wishes, R'vahr saw an amazingly beautiful MoonDeath at the market in Ironclaw. It was much larger than the usual kind, being nearly a fore in diameter, and forged of fine silver. R'vahr begged his mother to buy it for him, so intrigued was he by the design. He blade was given the blade on his next birthday.

He has trained himself in it's most simplistic use, and can hurl the weapon accurately up to four peds. If the weapon does not hit anything along the way, it curves back to it's wielder. R'vahr has special gloves that he uses to catch the returning MoonDeath.

Hen'net was said to be the greatest off all the hunters of the Phthia and maybe even the Isles. He could slip right behind his prey, and slaughter it before it understood what was happening, with a tiny slash at the throat or head. He could wait for days, without moving at all, for the perfect opportunity. He loved spending time with his son, and the two would stay in the wilderness with only each other for weeks at a time. R'vahr learned how to bless the beat that he hunted, and thank it for giving it's life to him. He learned that life is a circle, and that it could never be stopped by hate or death.

R’vahr and his family lived in a village within trading distance of Ironclaw upon the slopes of Gorgramoth’s Forge. The village was called Ul’aer, it was beautiful and filled with happy people. While large for a Phthia settlement and boasting the greatest hunters of all of the villages, R'vahr often felt the need for adventure in his life. He taste the sweetness of glory, and see the outside world. His lusts for new experiences often caused him to wander out by his own.

The wild consumed much of R'vahr's time, and often he felt a deep connection with nature. He learned from the animals about him, and soon became wise in the ways of the beast. He became less like a man when hunting and more like a predator. When not hunting or training, R'vahr would go out on long walks to the forest of souls and occasionally visit one of the other villages.

On one of these walks he saw a strange animal, long and black as the night sky, and drank from a small pool of glowing magma. He approached it, in awe of its beauty, and dubbed the creature, Mepher. He had heard a merchant in Iron Claw use the word as a curse when he burned his finger on a steam boiler. Yet as he neared the animal, it ran into a deep crevice. R'vahr followed without thinking. He slid down the wall of the crevice, and found nothing but a small hole. A fearful thought came to mind, and he looked back up the crevice wall. The walls were too steep for him to climb, the crumbled as soon as his weight rested on them. He was three peds into a crevice with no way out.

R’vahr was trapped in the crevice and could think of no way out. He stared at the hole for a short time, and then entered. He found that it was the entrance to a larger cave, which glowed orange and was very warm. He squirmed down the cave till his very bones were weary and then stopped to rest. The cave had gotten very small, and he had to lie on his belly to move through it, but it was the only chance he had of escape, so he trudged on.

Then he heard a troubling sound. With his crawling creating  so much noise he had missed it before, but now it roared and felt far too close, he could feel a liquid heat upon his brow. It is good that he paused for he was only a few fores from a deep shaft, which lead down more than a stral into a fiery magma pit. He then felt something, it was warm and alive, and it rubbed against his side softly. At first he was afraid, but then he was comforted. In the dim light, he could see that it was Mepher, the strange creature he had chased into this situation.

Mepher smelled like sulfur and he winced slightly at the rank, it was larger than he had thought, nearly bigger then he himself. He reached out and touched it, brushing his fingers against the hard leathery hide. Its flesh felt hot, and his nose was wet. He reached into the small bag tied to his waist, and offered the animal some food, which was promptly devoured. Mepher than began to pull at R'vahr's pant leg, urging him towards another side tunnel. Having no other guide, the boy followed, and was soon in the light of day again.

He then went home, and was not surprised when the ferret began to follow him. He felt a bond with the animal, as if they should have always been together, and would be together for the rest of time. It was not for many years that Mepher was able to share his feelings directly to R'vahr, but when he would, He allowed R'vahr to know that he followed the boy for one reason, because it was the only right thing to do. The two became the greatest of companions, and R'vahr soon began to learn of the ferrets various needs. Every few months they would return to the Forge, and Mepher would stock up on the various minerals and chemicals that the village lacked.

Life went smoothly for R'vahr. He grew into a stunning man, and quickly became the most wanted male in the village. His father continued to teach him that love, and hunting were the way of life, and kept him from the battles with the orcish raiders. His mother taught him of herbs and self aid. He learned how to stitch a wound shut, and how to clean it. He became a hunter without peer and frequently spent months in the wild, with only Mepher as a companion.

He was sixteen when he realized that he was lonely. Nothing could take away the emptiness. He had slept with every young woman in his village, and most of the young women from Ironclaw. Yet he felt no companionship from any of them. Only from his mother and father could he feel any attachment. He told them of this, and they asked him to examine what he really wanted. He spent three months in the forest of souls, and discovered that he had tasted everything Ru'nor had to offer. He was bored with this place, and wished to find somebody, something, worth living for.

He returned to his home, and told his parents of what he had found. They were saddened, yet knew that he should fill his life with joy, and they should not hold him down. They gave him the greatest of their worldly gifts. He was given his father's robes, and the Karikrimson sash that his father wore around his waist to battle. His mother gave him a masterfully crafted satchel, to keep all of his worldly belongings, a heavy leather jacket, and leather leggings. Within the satchel were twelve small triangles of platinum, each with a ruby set in the center. They were a gift from his grandfather, of the R'mart tribe. It was enough currency for him to purchase whatever he may need in his journey.

Because of his usually thrifty life style, R'vahr still has enough of this coinage to pad any hard times he may come upon. He also took with him everything he would need. Herbs, needles, thread, rope, etc.

He had Mephér consume as much aluminum as he could find, until the reinforced metal bonded to his bones for storage, then he gathered all of his belongings and set out for the southwest. He traveled down to Ironclaw and then paid for transport over the sea to Bluesteel, a smaller city on the edge of the R'unorian boundaries. The nearest port available was many miles to the north at the northern border of Vardynn, the city of Milkengrad.

In this port city he came to a tavern and learned as much as he could from the people there. He could not yet speak Tharian, but he could understand much of it. The Eyelians, he learned, were secretive and quiet people to the south of Vardynn, in the province Sanguia. He heard many stories that could not be true. He heard that they could talk to animals and their armies had full units of beast trainers. He heard that they were extremely intelligent and lived off of the land. He also heard that their women were full of dark beauty. These people seemed to appeal to all his wants and needs. He decided that joining them would indeed make him whole, and went south.

He had to traverse through Vardyn and Xar, allowing Mephér to feed on any abandoned or not so abandoned mines they came across until he came to the Ilian Plateau. The journey took four weeks and much of R'vahr's energy, so there they rested and meditated. They sacrificed a kill to H'lf'ik, and thanked him for the plentiful food, R'unor is a much harsher land than Santharia. The deer were good to eat, and life was simple and happy. Then, after a refreshing break, they resumed their journey, asking for directions whenever they felt the must, and trying to stick to the paths.

They traversed the Steppe of Kruswik and after a month of hard march, came to the foot of a set of great mountains. The mountains were a strenuous change from the plains he had traveled before, yet were not so harsh as the Forge. He had lived in a much harsher landscape. These experiences served to further sharpen his skills, and soon he could speak Tharian respectably.

Finally, after nearly three months of harrowing adventure he came upon the city of Tyr Thromgolin. When he got to the metropolis of sorts he was weary, and did not wish to walk anymore. His bones were heavy within his body, and his feet were thick with sores. He spent 6 K'ln that he had saved up from his fur trade for passage down the nearby river to his final destination, Vezash, the capitol of the Eyelians.

The boat came to a stop three days later. He entered the town, and asked to speak with the chieftain of the Eyelians. With a bit of charm he was granted a short visit. R'vahr told the man, from whom he felt a radiant knowledge, that he wished to help the tribe and become a part of it, as their ways spoke to his heart. He explained of his journey and the trials he had gone through in order to make his appearance, and asked to be initiated as one of their own. He told them that he was the son of a great chieftain from a far isle, who knew of the ways of nature, and wished to learn from the Eyelian people.

In response, the chieftain told him of the solidarity of the Eyelians, and how they must keep their secrets their own. He told the boy that they were a lonely people, and that R'vahr could find no solstice here. R'vahr was ashamed, and left. He went into the bordering forest, hungry and angry. As he wandered and fumed, a feint cry reached his ears. He stopped for a moment, and mepher raised his head. Both looked at each other for a short while. The cry came again, with greater urgency. Mepher leapt from R'vahr's shoulders and ran in the direction of the call, and was soon overtaken by R'vahr's own long strides.

The sight that they came upon was horrifying. A giant black spider, with glossy armor and massive fangs. It was creeping toward a woman, who was pulling at her leg. Around the woman's ankle was a thick cord of spidersilk. The beast was at least two peds long, and four peds in diameter. R'vahr was frozen in a moment of fear, and Mepher was not.

The ferret screeched and leapt onto the creatures back, slashing deep furrows into the thick black plates of the spider's back. R'vahr caught himself and ran to the woman, who had an unnatural beauty. With three quick slashes of his razor sharp fangs, the freed her ankle, and noted that it was badly twisted. She tried to limp away, but fell forward, gripping her ankle in pain. R'vahr spun to face the great Tormentor, and was quickly beset by it's glistening fangs and pincer ridden claws.

He ducked as a pincer came at his head, and felt the ground shudder in response. The Tormentor tore great rents onto the earth wherever R'vahr was, and only due to his great physical prowess could the boy survive. Mepher was flung from the spider as it leapt to smash into R'vahr, the ferret flew through the air and smashed into a large tree. He whimpered in pain then fell limp. R'vahr leapt to the side, attempting to save himself from being crushed by the great monster, but was not fast enough. A great pincer grasped his thigh and pulled him in. Without a moment's hesitation he slashed down with his left fang, slicing cleanly through the limb that held him. He fell onto the earth with a thud, and tried to roll to his feet.

As he came onto his knees, a piercing pain wracked his right shoulder. He turned to see one of the spider's spear like pincers shoved viciously into his flesh. His eyes slowly moved from the pincer, to the cavernous maw, which dripped with hunger, then to the cold, dead eyes. He felt his arm go numb, he felt his life drip away with a now steady flow of blood that ran down his arm, dripping and pooling on the forrest floor at his knees. that fell from the creature's open mouth. With a roar he slammed both of his fangs into the creature's eyes, twisted the blades toward the sky, and ripped upwards. The tormentor fell limp, then writhed in its death throes.

R'vahr rose shakily, and came to the girl. His body was succumbing to the shock and blood loss that the great gaping wound had caused, he knew he would soon die. He could feel himself grow cold. He whistled softly, and Mepher, who had risen moments earlier, came to his side. Taking strength from what must have been a divine source, R'vahr lifted the women, who had fainted with terror and pain, onto his ragged shoulders. With a determination above mortal will, he began to walk.

He was only twenty peds from Vezash when he finally crumpled into a mass of bleeding, wounded R'unorian.

He awoke in a mud hut. He was weary and in pain, his shoulder throbbed , and was covered in thick bandages. Mephér was curled up on his chest, he could feel the warm flesh weigh down on his breathing and was comforted. The tribe’s members had tried to evict the ferret but had gained only a few light burns for their efforts. Eventually seeing that Mephér meant no harm, they let him be. Mephér gave a drowsy squeak and rubbed his muzzle on R'vahr's cheek then fell back down into a light slumber.

The woman he had saved came to visit him soon after he awoke, and he learned that she had watched over him as he had recovered from his wounds. She was the daughter of the chieftain. He thought her voice was beautiful, and was glad that she visited him often. They would talk and laugh, she would brighten his days of confinement, and he felt closer to her than any other human in the world. His loneliness ebbed away, and for a time he felt at peace, and full of life and joy.

A week after the adventure, R'vahr recovered enough to walk around the city, and was brought once more to the Chieftain. The man asked for forgiveness, and told R'vahr that he had underestimated the boy's heart. He asked if there was anything R'vahr wanted. The nor'sidian youth replied that he wanted only to become a part of the eagle's talon clan.

He was named Kinrev S'Vern, or Hunter in Darkness, for his ability to hunt at night and day, as a shadow of his prey. The robes were retrieved, as were the rest of R'vahr's items, and the hunter set for a long stay.

He grew to know Lethia, the daughter, and he began to fall in love with her. They spent all their days together. She taught him of her people, and their ways. In return, he told her of his own people, and how his life was before. She could not understand why he would leave, and would joke of his wild heart. He would simply supply a seductive grin in response.

For six more months he stayed with the Eagle clan, learning everything they could teach him. The hunt became an act of spiritual progression, instead of lust and consumption. R'vahr learned their tongue and began to learn how to speak to the animals. He kept his Fangs in his tent, and instead brought only a throwing spear he had been given by Lethia. He became at peace with his surroundings and at one with nature, instead of always at war with it.

After a year and a half he was deemed ready for the Search for the Spirit. This worried R'vahr because he was unsure of whether the Great Spirit had accepted him as one of the tribe yet, and did not wish to fail at such an important task. He was brought to the Lodge of Purification, and Mephér was told to wait outside. The ferret was sure to eat to his heart's content, so he could last out the ten days with his human companion.

The first few days passed, with Mephér waiting outside and the steam rising against R'vahr's flesh. It felt like the caverns during a thick sulfur storm. That reminded him of one of the great advantages of moving out to Santharia, Mephér no longer reeked like death and acid. The thought brought a  smile to R'vahr's lips, and displayed his flashing canines.

Five days passed a hunger grew deep in his gullet and meditation came difficult. He examined his life and what he had become. He examined what he wanted out of his existence, and why he existed. The grin still curved at the left corner of R'vahr's mouth, pulling it maybe a grain higher than usual. He thought hard of his life and his purpose. His future worried him and he wondered if this was it. Would he always be here in Vezash? He asked the Eagle for his help, for an aid. He needed a spirit guide that could help him rise to greatness. He realized that he wanted even more.

For ten days R'vahr meditated. He searched his soul for his spirit and felt a deep connection there. It was powerful and strong as steel bonds. He looked within his mind and searched his feelings, allowing his body and mind to become one. On the tenth day he looked out and saw that Mephér was gone. This surprised him, as it was not the ferret's way to back down once he had decided to do something. For Mephér a promise was a solemn oath, and while the ferret could not talk, he could communicate as all animals can, and R’vahr was fairly sure the ferret had resolved not to leave. But then again ten days is a long time, he reasoned.

He turned back to his meditation, letting his mind sink into the Great Spirit. It was at this moment that a great stillness came to his heart. He felt a calmness that he had never felt before. All his life he had been afraid of the darkness that enshrouded him, and now he felt at peace with it. In his minds eye he saw a whirlwind of feathers and powerful wings. It was huge and majestic and he could never explain it in any other way.

Two elderly tribesmen came up the steps of the Lodge and presented him with an ancient dagger. Their faces had goodness to them and as R'vahr took the dagger he felt reaffirmed in his will. The handle was carved in the shape of an eagle and he took this as a sign that his prayers had been heard.

R'vahr moved south and east, into Elverground and the Zeiphyrian Forests. He could feel that his mind was greater in some way, and he felt that great things were in the making. There was another part to him now, which was not entirely his. R'vahr could not explain at this point what it was but he could feel that he had it.

For another two days R'vahr lived off the land and continued to move east and south. He could feel a pull in that direction, as if a part of him rested there off in the distance. The trail was burned in his mind, engraved with the feathers and talons of a great eagle. He moved assuredly with the confidence of one who knows, but is not quite sure what it is he knows.

On the night of the second day R'vahr found what he had been searching for, and found that it, or he for that matter, had been with him always. Mephér was lying in a nest of brilliant white feathers. He was in the middle of a clearing and the light shone like some strange green liquid luminescence on his still form. When R'vahr crossed the barrier of feathers, Mephér arose groggily and looked at him strangely. The black ferret had a new look to him, as if he had reached his full potential and was no longer a beast, but now a man of sorts. There was keenness to his eyes and a glint to his hide. It all served to make him seem more alive.

R'vahr spoke to mepher, with images across their respective mentalities, and was spoken too by Mepher. It was too astounding to comprehend, the vision was short and  heavenly. He also felt touched. His vision seemed keener, and his wit sharper. This was his chance for glory. He knelt down and prayed to the Taloned Eagle for another day and on the fourth day of his travels he rested, Mephér upon his chest, both wearied deeply and deeply gratified. His eyes were now flecked with gold, and had a depth and precision.

They both returned to the Vezash and R'vahr told the clan of their adventures. Lastly he told Lethia, the chieftain's daughter. After recounting his tale, he asked for her hand in marriage. He could feel her shock, and he could feel her doubt. She told him that she was in his debt for saving her life, but that she could not marry him. He understood in his own way. She was a beautiful princess, and he was a man from a foreign land, he could not stay, it was not his purpose to stay. She could not make him stay. She would need to marry a man of the people, a man to hold her every night, and be by her side. He told her he would return one day, and return for her. Then he set out back north, for Vardynn. He had heard there was turmoil there, and maybe he could find his purpose with those great warriors.

Mepher

Overview:

R'vahr is of course gifted with Mepher. Mepher is a fire ferret with a mischievous heart. He is much larger than your average ferret, standing at 2 palmspans tall and 6 long. He has no fur, instead a black leathery hide protects him from the harmful environment from which he hails. He has sharp black eyes that gleam with a cunning joy, reflecting his thieving heart. He knows how to change his expression to get what he wants, and is especially charming around women.

Appearance:

Mepher is long and lithe, much like his companion. His skin is darker than a moonless night, and smooth as silk. The tip of his tail burns with pale blue flames, which dance in the wind. His eyes are intelligent and burning, yet cheerful and charming. His lips seem to smile in a very human way. His fangs are pale white, like glistening stars against his dark hide, and have a silvery tint to them. His curved digging claws are much the same, strands of silver run along the grain.

Personality:

Mepher is remarkably intelligent, as many ferrets are. Because of this, and his rodent appearance, he often shows more wit, guile, and intuitiveness then is expected of him.
Beset with a strange affliction of greedy paws, the ferret has been known to use his intellect and dexterity to make off with what might not be his. Shiny coins and food are on the top of his list. He loves to charm women into giving him metallic objects or fish, both of which he covets.

The scorcher does not like to fight, and would rather find some female ferret to cuddle up with then fight off some drunkard male. He enjoys comfort and food and fun. A rogue in all senses of the word, Mepher is sometimes more human than ferret.

Strengths:

- Mepher is flexible and agile. He can easily get into small holes and cramped spaces. He is quick on his feet and can scamper faster then most men can run.

- Scorchers exude toxins, and are immune to almost any poison.

- When fueled with excess sulfur, Mepher can light his tail with a blue flame. The small fire can provide light or warmth, and burn foes in a pinch.

- Ferrets are skilled thieves, and have been stealing shiny things from humans for  hundreds of years. Mepher uses a mixture of charm, cunning, and dexterity to obtain coins, food, and other items of value.

- Mepher’s bones, teeth, and claws are usually bonded with excess metals. They are not as strong as steel, but stronger by far than normal bones. His claws are amazingly sharp and his teeth are like needles.

Weaknesses:

- Mepher needs a constant supply of minerals to stay healthy. He needs the rare metal, Magnesium, for the proper bonding of metal to calcium bone structure. Without it he can become very ill.

- Mepher requires complex toxins usually found in volcanoes. Sulfur is used in the synthesis of many important chemicals that keep his body in balance and helps with the lighting of his tail. When he does not ingest proper amounts of sulfur he grows very ill as his body's roiling acids begin to tear him apart from within, this of course is the extreme case. If he replenishes his stores before reaching a coma state, then his body will balance itself and begin to heal within the week. More commonly he cannot light his tail by his own will.
-Metals are of course somewhat difficult to get a hold of in the large quantities that Mepher requires in order to lace
his bones with metal.

-Because of the toxins that he expels through his skin, Mepher can have a pungent smell, which attracts any creature
with a nose to his position, and also can repel potential friends.

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

Has no one commented here? Perhaps everyone awaits your history, which I'm sure will be long, detailed, and wonderfully narrorated!

A note on height: unless my math skills have deteriorated during summer, 5 fores and two palmspans comes out to be about 1.86 peds. This isn't very short at all! The average Erpheronian is about 1.85 peds. Most Eyelians are even shorter at 1.5 peds.

Also, Nor'sidian skin seems a little iffy to me. Nor'sidian is black, and though Eyelians and Phthians have pretty dark skin, it isn't quite at that dark.

Your character may know more Tharian than you let on! After all, Tharian has been used throughout Santharia for about the last 1600 years or so! It's basically the main language of Santharia, so unless your mother didn't come in contact with any traders or travelers (which is possible, I admit), he would probably know Tharian with some ease. As long as you're careful with the amount of Tharian you know, I have no problem with it. I have to admit that I'm not even sure if the Eyelian language is still around, but I'll assume it is for your sake. ;)

I'm going to wait for your history before I comment more. I want to see how what you have is explained in the history (especially your ferret!). To my knowledge, there's no Ferret Clan in Eyelia, though that doesn't necessarily mean you can have him as a familiar.

... Such interesting characters! It makes me want to start RPing again...!

R'vahr has no eyelian blood. He composed of two R'unorian tribes... though it has been so long that I have forgotten their names... after his eyes were cut out by orcish raiders... which are common in R'unor where he was raised, he traveled to the forge, a volcanoe close to his home villiage,... there he found mepher... or mepher found him. He then goes to santharia (this explains why he does not know the common tounge very well) and learns animal lore from the eyelian tribe of the taloned eagle... were he gained mephers sight... oh and he fights a freshwater shark at one point.

and on the entry of his mothers tribe, it says nor'sidian skin...;)

and your hieght thingy, your math is off, i just put it into reasoning... most characters are about 2 peds tall, which is six feet, i made it so my char is five feet six inches... which is shorter than many of the people i meet. I will change it to five foot three and be happy:pet

My math is off? How so? Where? ::is confused:: 5 foot three is like... about 1.6 peds, I think. This would be a little shorter than most Santharians, so yes, I am content. Thank you And keep in mind that the people created and played here are far from being the norm around Santharia!

You mention Eyelia as a tribe, which is a tribe of Santharia (though originally, supposedly, from Nybelmar--but that's too old to be anything more than myth). You only mention one R'unorian tribe, and the only tribe you state does not mention this Nor'sidian skin. I'm assuming there's some R'mart blood in your character, but perhaps since your character was never actually apart of that tribe, it isn't mentioned as a tribe? Oh, you've tripped me up! Totally not fair!

I'm not sure about gaining mepher's site and learning how to speak to animals given the time you have there. Granted, I don't know your history, but the process of learning how to communicate with animals, I assume, starts very young. A child is named after birth, which is a ritual, and once they reach puberty (usually around 12/13) they go through the process I assume you want to go through to find Mepher. Even if you do wind up in an Eyelian clan at this age, it's a long way to Argor from where that tribe is unless the tribe, for whatever reason, is more northward than they usually are (in which case you might have trouble finding the tribe once you arrive in Santharia).

Does this make sense? Again, it's hard to assess without knowing your history!

its not, that was a typo from mixing two posts, one was wrong the other was right.

Anyways he is part R'mart, that was his mother... who lived in his fathers tribe... which is... ill have to look it up agian.. anyways, his fathers tribe is very nomadic and not really a part of modern r'unorian culture. They are very strong warrios, which is how R'vahr learns to fight... This is before he is rendered blind you see... then orcs sneak attack when many of the warriors are off gaurding his mother as she goes back to her home city.. she is like a princess or something, and the father is the chieftain... they find R'vahr and slice his eyes out... mepher takes care of him while he grows up, and eventually he takes care of mepher. then.. uh.. he goes santharia, because he feels he has something to prove to his now dead father (orc raid member?) anyways uh there he falls out of a boat, gets attacked by a shark, and killz it.. turns out in so doing he saved a chieftains daughter, since he was wounded enough to be knocked out durring the battle they take care of him, and he is eventually initiated into thier tribe.. the taloned eagle... HE goes through the ritual were the person gains their familiar. Mepher rests by his side for all the days but one, on the last day mepher is gone. Rvahrgoes into the woods, as he is supposed to, and... you will have to get the rest once it comes... yea the history is long... as each of these events gets alot of detail, and i think i skipped a bit.

It is a common misconception that 2 peds is 6 feet. Its more like 6'6 or 6'7. Also, I'm not sure that the Eyelians should be listed as one of his tribes since he is not descended from them. I do know that his mother's tribe should be listed as one of his tribes, since he is descended from them.

Actually it's a misPRINT in the documentation that states a ped is "roughly 1 metre or approx. 3 feet". IMO this should be edited to avoid so much confusion.

Btw here are two links with that info:
www.santharia.com/rpg/cha...asurements
www.santharia.com/compend...eights.htm

Currently a ped is being corrected by mods as being one meter, which is closer to "approx. 3.25 feet". ;)

[EDIT] My mistake, it's not a "misprint". The developers are aware of the wording and just don't see a problem with it.

ill answer you quite simply... this character was accepted, then torn down.. I was never told before of this, and ill change it soon As i will... and i was told to put the eyelians in, since they are more of my tribe than the Phthians or the R'mart... also i kept the R'mart out of the tribes section because thier cultural influences are much differant than the Phthians and the Eyelians, both of which are very rural, while the R'mart are very tradelike i seem to remember... So It was to aviod confustion... the R'mart are noted very early in the history, and when it is done, if any body has a question about R'vahrs skin tone, that aspect will be noted. Thank you for the help though.

I did not know about the hieght, and have taken a palm span off, i measured a fore irl.. with my average fore arm, its fairly short man five of em come up to my neck, and i am a short person. So i think i am good there. I put R'mart in there to make you happy, but was to lazy to change profiles so i could just edit this in:|

Ok THE HISTORY IS IN,,, yea i know, it has problems right now, and i will be finxing the formating sooner or laterz, the thing is, that I got it in, so the profile is complete... now read it and say "OMG James, you need to learn english... this whole paragraph is one sentance... and the paragraph is the size of my whole CD... and you just spelled them wrong... you actually spelled them theame... what is wrong with your pitiful mind!..." Actually I wrote it this bad, just to mess with your head... hehehe:evil :read :devilish

I have read your history and I am contented, for the most part. I worry a little about how far away things are on R'unor, and if it is possible to wander through the forest or two Ironclaw whenever, but I really don't know enough about it, and so I'm not going to worry about it.

I find it interesting that your character, a R'unorian, made a sacrifice to a Santharian God. So quick to abandon his own gods! :p  Go to the Religions and Beliefs section of the site and scroll all the way down. You'll find the three R'unorian gods we have listed there.

Thaehelvil is the river on which you travel to get to Vezash from Tyr Thromgolin.

A very wonderfully written tale--though of course there are some spellings of certain words that might be altered for comprehension by a larger population. ;)  Otherwise, nicely written!

i rewrote everything but the history because the spelling and grammer were so bad, i was haveing trouble with it, nothing has changed, accept that Mepher is no longer a nice ferret, now he is actually ferretish... i changed that because i accually met one a few monthes back, and this is just more like how they are... THEIVES!!!! anyways... uh everything is in close distance to everything, i looked at all the maps of r'unor. it is all on the main isle, which is fairly small.;)

Oh and the gods, yea i saw them a few days ago, but there is no hunting god up. We basically have a mother, a sex, and a fish/wealth... thats about it. Allot of R'unor is old and outdated, and somebody (which might end up being me) is going to have to change that...

R'vahr, can you remember which two Mods/Admins gave you their approval? I don't remember giving my approval on this CD, but you must have been approved, because you are titled.

I say this because i can't remember much of your original CD, and thus do not know how much you have rewritten it. I started reading your CD, and came across two things that i know would have not gotten the green light ... from me anyway:

1. Your ferret and his unusual qualities.

2. Your mithril gauntlet.

Title: Re: R'vahr, Hunter in Darkness
Post by: Rvahr the Hunter on August 06, 2005, 07:58:22 AM
Luca... i think... and sturmwind... i know... and uh... im not sure about the last one. I know that you did not put allot of input into r'vahr, though he did have allot of input from everybody. Most people were more concerned with his blindness and the sight that he could use, and that my history made sence. Actually the fight with the shark made more of a splash than the mithril gauntlets... If you want I could make a long backstory for them, about how they were forged to fight the orc hordes by R'vahr's tribe a millienia ago.. To create fear and doubt. It does not really matter. I would rather not lose them though, considering I have rped with them for a long time, dispite my absence. If you want I will Copy Paste the original here and you can compare them? I am fairly sure I just kept it all to style, but there may indeed be some changes. I can tell you know though, that the history is straight copy paste.

oh and the ferret got a huge push from the creator of the scorcher... They said that ferrets were not maternal enough to take care of a blind boy... He said that these definatly were, as are most ferrets, he also said that ferrets are more intelligent than cats.

I reviewed it and i did make some changes. I made R'vahr seem much more vulnerable in hand to hand combat, and made sure to note more than once that Mepher was a good fighter, because alot of the poeple i rped with seemed to think that all he did is screech and scratch then get knocked out.

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

I think the main problem is your ferret. His abilities are simply not possible in Santharia. I would suggest making it a normal ferret, or choosing another familiar from the beastiary.;)

what abilities? aside from the sight ability, he is a regular scorcher... so i have no idea of what you speak... and magically, it is possible for them to trade sight. They are bonded, their carrall is practically one with all the xuanna links that join them. dont ever try to get me ont the spelling of xuanna, im tired, and i just got back from school.

I reread this and saw the tone it seems to be in.. im not at all angry at you. I was just really wondering what abilities you were talking about. I dont get angry at people who know what they are talking about and crit my char, and i rarely get angry at people who have no idea of what they are talking about and crit my char. It all helps me make a better character.

Considering that it is widly accepted that Something bonds any eyelian to his familiar, you cant really ask "Well what completed the sight bonds so that they could do it" The answer is whatever created the bonds with the rest of the Eyelians.

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

You don't see anything wrong with that paragraph? I have problems with his thick hide, his metal laced bones, his metal laced fangs, and the tail with muscles like cords of iron. Not to mention setting the ferret on fire. Just because this is a fantasy world does not mean it should not be realistic. I have no problem with you having a ferret, but please describe him like a ferret! I don't believe a ferret could be trained to fight, they are more thieves than anything else. I've had ferrets, so I know this from personal experience. If you want a familiar that fights along the side of your char, then perhaps a ferret is not the appropriate familiar.

with all that stuff.. yea read the scorcher entry... its all there... and anything that you live with for a decade is going to protect you. I like the ferret. the setting itself on fire... its there... the metal lacedbones... that are stronger than steel... yea thats there too... So I added teh agressiveness, but thats a personality trait, Mepher is an agressive ferret. That is just his personality... say he was abused as a child... be happy;)

oh and the cords of iron thing, that just means that he can swing it back and forth and light things on fire. It does not mean that he acually has cords of iron in his tail... its like a metaphor.. it just means that the tail muscles are strong.

Yea i know it says that fire ferrets try to run unless attacked... R'vahr is like an extention of Mepher, and Mepher has never attacked without R'vahr being attacked first.

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

If necessary, excess metal is stored within the bones of the Fire Ferret or excreted in the droppings as a last resort.

I stand corrected.;)  Maybe it would help if you mentioned that the ferret was a scorcher? I try to do my homework before I comment, but I have to know which entry to look at first.

its kewl... mepher is now a link to the scorcher entry... i think it does say he is a Scorcher... but i will reread the entry for it to be happy... Lol... I would never make that all up.. that would be horribly unsantharian of me... WOW i cant imagine being that ignorant. anyways.... It is way kewl about the ferret, I understand what you saw now... i though that you realized that he was a scorcher and were just not getting it.;)

And if you want to know why i like haveing a fire ferret, its because It makes R'vahr more unique. Also i like the idea of a three palmspan tall Ferret that killz things.. If you measure it out with your palms, you realize that that is quite big. Oh and the reason, Mepher ate extremely well, he had R'vahr hunting for him, and buying good steel with his money that he got from hunting.. which means that if lead is almost as strong as steel and i can bend lead with my bare hands easy... then mepher's bones are neigh indestructable.

Is it just me or does the ferret entry itself seem way too powerful? I mean... metal bones, excreting sulphur, fire related things, its really thick hide... this thing is invincible. You can't cut its head off because it has a really thick hide and it's really agile and fast so you couldn't get ahold of it; you can't beat it to death; you can't poison it; I think the only way to kill it would be to drown it, and it's not always in someone's best interest to be dragging a tub of water to drown small flaming rodents in...

I know in the long run my opinion doesn't count, but I think this thing would cancel out nearly any weaknesses, seeing as how it's a better fighter than most player characters (how many of them can set you on fire and claw you to death in three seconds?) and definately a match for anything else. Unless it's wielder is a corpse, I'm not really comfortable with this thing... And since it can see for you, the blindness isn't really that much of a weakness... it'd be like me losing my legs, but then getting bionic ones that allow me to jump over buildings.

Think about if you had a human character that did all this. Would that ever be allowed? Of course not. And this thing is probably more dangerous, because it's a smaller target.

that would be kewl... but in real rping... Mepher rarely damages anything... People just dont take a ferret seriously. And he is fairly large. I tried to realy make it a big deal that he can fight, because in past fights he has been beaten with a broomstick and a backhand... that was just lame.. a scorcher is a formitable opponent. Lastly, his hide is not that thick, it is thick enough to lessen the damage of a dagger slash (not stab) just like leather armor.. no stronger than that, i will make that more apperent. The thing with the blindness is this... yea he can use it for short periods of time, and very rarely. And when he does the vision is blurred and extremely hard to make out, nothing like a humans sight, where everything is crisp and in three dimentions... were talking 2 dimentions wide angle ferret vision, and each time he uses it he is basicly confused and dazed and in pain afterward... so its more like haveing your legs cut off and getting two pegs that you can only put on when you really really need to run from all those people who you are tired of acting like your ferret cant do jack @#%$.

Mepher can be killzed... use your spear, your long sword whatever your choice of death is... especially spells. He cannot be poisoned really, though deadly poisons would make him alittle sick maybe. And the best thing to do is to trick him, i listed two weaknesses, he likes to steal and he likes to take food and stuff from girls. Just now Teri was holding him in her hands, she could have stabbed a small shiv in his stomach and killed him... I would probably go into a rampage and destroy the state of california in rage, but she sure could have.:lol

Thanks for your input though, ill change that asap.
Edit
I explained the whole hide thing, and am wondering what i should say about the mithril, Do you want me to make a history on it? I would just like to see what you would require this time around to pass the weapon.  ;)

I would recommend dropping the mithril and simply having the gauntlet crafted out of steel. Mithril is extremely rare, and I doubt your char could possess such a gauntlet. If you are determined to keep the mithril gauntlet, then I expect a detailed history on the gauntlet itself and on how your char obtained it.

R'vahr, I went with you though your CD when you did it the first time, I think I proposed the possibility to see through your ferret.
This is a very well written and elaborated  CD, you put a lot of effort and time in it. But you are much too strong. I don't know, if you have changed it, basically it is the same, but now it seems to me, that your blindness does not outweight your superior skills in every thing else, surviving in the wild (even without ferret) etc.. I won't pick on this however anymore, you have been already approved. I don't know, if I was mod already at that time and I did approve you.
However, meanwhile I have played with you, and there your ferret turned out to be a weapon so mighty - it would never have gone through. Maybe even more mistakes have been made . f.e. I doubt, that such a ferret can be a pet at all (only meager family bonds), that you as not being of Eyelian blood can seek the spirit at all (that is not mentioned in the entry, if other people could do it as well).

It was an error back then to approve you. Sorry.

So what I now ask of you - for a fair roleplay - to tone down Mepher, to balance his strengths with weaknesses as if it would be a normal char.
F.e: Mepher is far away from his native area, you are not always near an volcano, and though he can store metals according to the entry, he  might not get enough. That could weaken him considerably. His urine is due to malnutrition not as effective as it could be...

Alright?

I understand totally, expect him to be toned down within the week. I just wanted to say though, that Mepher was never really used as a weapon. R'vahr never really killed anybody, and never won any fights. Mepher scratched his foes at best, and R'vahr took some serious damnage. So While I understand that I am not the best Rpger, and i do make my characters far to powerfull much of the time, I never did use Mepher as a mighty weapon... Aside from the time i set the tavern on fire, but any alchemist can do that. I wont argue though, because I cannot win, and its not about winning, its about having @#%$ loads of fun.

This char seems to be too powerful. His blindness and his injured leg do not truly hinder him, and Mepher is too powerful as well. You need to find a way to limit both Mepher and your char's enhanced senses. Also, I'm not sure if anyone that was not born into the Eyelians could learn to communicate with animals. Another mod will have to determine if he could have learned that. My major concern right now is your S&W.

I don't have the time to read the whole thing, but I would like to comment on this:
Quote:
Mepher was never really used as a weapon. R'vahr never really killed anybody, and never won any fights.

Mepher killed an orc and nearly burned down the thirsty herald, so that's not true. And if I'm not mistaking Ana'mirl even clubbed Mepher against a wall, after which he just stood up. And with your hearing and smell, your blindness was hardly a problem. At the time it were your first posts with this char, so you could have changed it a little by now. The overpowering thing is mainly going to depend on the way you roleplay things, like Talia said.

Title: hmmm
Post by: Rvahr the Hunter on August 12, 2005, 02:45:22 PM
the orc prettymuch killed herself, he wanted me to kill him. Being clubbed by some inkeeper who has no training whatsoever should never hurt a fighting character. That would just be lame. And i did not nearly burn down the tavern, most pc's have not even noted burns. The furniture is fine for god's sake, you can barely tell I did anything!

That is the main reason that I changed the mepher part, because mepher was jumping on peoples backs and biting them, and they became scratches, and 40 something year old inkeepers were able to hit him hard enough to lift him off of the ground... do you realize how heavy he must be? the average scorcher is six fores long... measure that out with your forearm and think.

Also The leg does hinder him, Morcaanan was able to outrun him because his leg was acting up, and the blindness too, he cannot sense still objects like chairs and many obsticles tend not to move.

If you want to look at recent rp posts ill give you a list but like I said, R'vahr has never won a fight, even when I was overpowering him. When he ran away he was caught, when he hid he was found. when he tried to track, he lost his query.

I will make the s&w look more balanced, and might change the wording some on mepher but I would like to see what has gone wrong with my rping in the tavern? I have been rping there for a few weeks... I did talk to much at first, and too well, i had to get back into the groove of not liking to hear myself rant and not being able to speak.

For the last few posts he has spoken like i do when i try out my german skillz.:hammer

Once again, i really do appreciate your comments and keep em comming. I worked on the S&W, tell me what your thoughts are. I think that the weaknesses are pretty powerfull. In practice R'vahr has never been liked, mostly despised and feared, and his weaknesses have caught up to him. I am sorry If you say i am wrong and have really been overpowering my character. I am surely not the best rper out there and It is a problem I have:hat

Thnx for your help peeps:hug

Okay, next comment.......

The Eyelian thing (if you could learn their ways, if you are not a born Eyelian): It is not said on the dev-board or in the entry, if it is possible or not, so I say, it is in your case, especially because you really got the grip of what is going on, and so your char. I like this mepher-encounter as well - and that he is kind of more sentient than before.

Your personal weakness/strength seems  balanced as well (without Mepher!)- though you are an incredible strong character (the mind and will of R‘vahr) and all your weakness you might invent will never match your chars drive to succeed and survive. But well.

That leaves Mepher. I think Bahran said it already  the ferret is just too strong , a weapon noone else has.

Quote:

Mepher

R'vahr is of course gifted with Mepher. Mepher is a fire ferret with a mischievous heart. He is much larger than your average ferret, standing at 2 palmspans tall and 6 long. He has no fur, instead a black leathery hide protects him from the harmful environment from which he hails. He has sharp black eyes that can embody either fiery rages of vengeance or the cold coals of justice. When he really wants something, they can be soft and cute. Ever since he was "touched" by the Taloned Eagle he has had a scar burned betwixt his eyes. It is in the shape of a highly stylised talon, and is burned far too cleanly to be natural. Sometime the talon itches and Mepher feels the need to scratch it vigourously with his right forepaw.

Mepher is extremely intelligent, as many ferrets are, and often shows more wit, guile, and intuitiveness then is expected of him. Mepher has a strange affliction of greedy paws, and has been known to make of with what might not be his, or get what he wants in unlawful ways. He loves to charm women into giving him food or metallic objects, which he covets.

Mepher is a powerful warrior. His bones are usually laced with metals stronger than steel, and almost impossible to break. Once, when hurled into a stone wall, the wall broke before he did. The ferret's thick hide protects him from minor cuts and softens the bite of some attacks. Mepher sports needle like fangs that are also laced with a steel like metal, they easily slide into his foe's necks to rip out the jugular. His claws are curved viciously and, once again, laced with enhanced steel. They are razor sharp and are used the slice his foes open, particularly the stomach. Mepher lastly has his tail which, like the rest of him, has muscles like cords of iron. The tail can be lit with a sulfur based flame, which he uses to cause alot of distracting damage... such as burning down walls, taverns, forests, clothing... it goes on and on. This ferret is R'vahr's true weapon. Mepher prefers to urinate all over his foe, and then light them into a towering inferno. This tactic is especially useful in bar fights, where the patrons are already soaked in acholohol.

So I ask you again, tone him down, give him a weakness! I offered you already a solution in my last post, how to do it - and it is fitting to his entry anyway: Lack of sufficient adequate nutrition. He doesn‘t live in his magma pits anymore , he doesn‘t have access to the food he needs, even if he can store some of the minerals he needs.
If would be a considerable weakness, if you could never be sure, if he has enough sulfur left to set something on fire (you could cut this out entirely, for where from does he get sulfur??) , if his bones are as hard as normally, or if a throw in the next wall could break his bones, due to lack of enough metal in his metabolism? As humans get osteoporosis due to lack of calcium, you ferret could get a similar illness - sometimes. And you never now, how full his depots are.
You could even add a kind of dilemma to your char: The less metals Mepher has in his metabolism, the clearer you can see through his eyes. That of course would show you, when you have to go to Thalambath to get into the magma pits of the Norong‘sorno.

And btw, I don't think, that you are a bad RP, just a bit too powerful! Only a young girl managed to tease you so far! And she escaped before you got back! :lol  ;)

The wound is not so bad that he limps. It is bad enough that it always hurts him, and that it can cause the muscles to clench at times (like some war wounds, like my grandfathers) So he can usually climb rocks and be agile, but at times he is seriously hindered by the wound, usually when he does something kewl, like jumping down a wall.

Wow im so sorry Sturmwind, i completely forgot, I thought that was a great Idea and was going to put it in... slipped my mind. I have no trouble with giving mepher weaknesses, though with the metal to sight thing, That would not be a dilema for R'vahr, kain yes, r'vahr no. Would you hurt your only friends who you have known forever for something that you have done without for eight years. I would not think so, and R;vahr would not. It is all a great suggestion though and i will get to it when I have time.

I got to it tonight, but the comp died again on me... I really need to build my new one now... Anyways... I will try again, if It dies midway i am sorry. If I forget something... shoot me or tell me, whichever suits your personal belief system best. there is no middle ground.

You guys can now know just how big Mepher would have to be. Average size for a scorcher is 6 fores long 2 fores high... six fores is exactly 6.4960434 feet and 2 fores is 2.1653478 feet. He is bigger than your average human. Which I should have realized earlier. Six fores is 2 peds.... how dumb of me.:upset    im thinking he should wiegh between two hundred and just under two fourty? depending on how much metal is in him?

in compairson R'vahr is exactly five foot eight inches tall. he should weigh much more... im thinking 1 pygge 8 hebs, because of all the muscle. I have a hard time judging, im only 5'8 @ 125 lbs

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

Great CD!!:thumbup

Have the mods been harassing you about your new CD? Do you want an easy solution that allows you to get your character approved as quickly as possible? Then allow me to introduce you to a method in which you can bribe the temporary CD mod. Write your name in red ink (please use red ink as my undead minions cannot read any other color) on a twenty-dollar bill or its equivalent. Ladies are asked to include their name, age, and shoe size. Visit your local cemetery and place the money on the tombstone of a freshly dug grave. Clap three times, snap twice, and walk backwards out of the cemetery. Your CD will receive my approval as soon as a panel of judges reviews the authenticity of your money.

R'vahr, I give you my approval, but don't you want your otherwise excellently written and displayed CD correct in the sense, that you use more adequate words, more fitting into our society. This last paragraph you added with Mephor's weaknesses would not go up like this on the dev-board:
I'll explain it:

The Scorcher also has many weaknesses, most have to do with his diet. Mepher can only really digest metals, all other essencial compounds must be gathered in other, less efficient ways. Many of this is done by synthesis. Two of the top chemicals that Mepher must obtain to be healthy are magnesium, for the proper bonding of metal to calcium bone structure, and NitroxySaline which is used in the synthesis of many important chemicals that keep his pH in balance and helps with the lighting of his tail. Luckily Magnesuim is in high concentration within many fish species, and while Mepher has a hard time digesting the flesh of his fishy prey, he can ingest the chemicals he needs. while NitroxySaline is rare outside of areas with volcanic activity, Mepher does not use up his store very quickly, as it does not chemically react when used for the purpose of pH balance and fire ignition.

„Synthesis - you use it here like you have learned it in your chemistry lesson, I doubt, that alchemist really know, what they are doing , at least , they would not call it so. „chemicals“ is a word I would avoid as well (we will take it out of the gnomes entry), and surely noone knew excactly, that calcium was needed for the bones. I would not talk of magnesium, NirtroxySaline and surely not of a PH balance! It is enough,if you write, that he seesm to need a lot of fish and a special diet, you had to find out first (where is the magnesium in, etc. The same is valid for the following NaNO. Just write, that if he hasn‘t enough ...(the normal name for natriumxxx), then its body is acting weird, and he is in the danger to be teared apart from within. And so on..

When he does not ingest proper amounts of NaNO he grows very ill as his bodies roiling acids and bases begin to tear him apart from within, this of course is the extreme case. If he replenishes his stores before reaching a coma state, then his body will balance itself and begin to heal within the week. More commonly he cannot light his tail by his own will and will smell much stronger of sulfer. It is much more likely for the ferret to ignite without warning and harm the people around him. Also when his flames do ignite, they will not be nearly as hot.

Mepher also requires plentiful amounts of sulfer, which is anything but easy to access on the mainland of Santharia. Much of R'vahr's meager savings go. The sulfer is not neccessary for survival, but is necessary for the ability to catch his tail aflame. Sulfer can be obtained by any alchemist or many shops dealing with the occult or magical. Without sulfer Mepher loses his strong scent and the shimmering effect of heat waves off of his body. He may grow slightly lethargic and sleep in more.

Metals are of course somewhat difficult to get a hold of in the large quantities that Mepher requires in order to lace his bones with metal based compounds. Usually they must steal large chunks of whatever they can get their hands on when the opportunity arises. In times of dire need, R'vahr has given Mepher his coinage in order to feed his friend. Sometimes, especially before an important or difficult battle, R'vahr wil buy expensive and strong metals like steel for Mepher to ingest. This grows very costly and no more than three merchents hold debts against the hunter.

You guys can now know just how big Mepher would have to be. Average size for a scorcher is 6 fores long 2 fores high... six fores is exactly 6.4960434 feet and 2 fores is 2.1653478 feet.

Hey Rvahr, ya got "fores" when it should be "palmspans". A palmspan is 1/3 of a fore (approx 11 cm). So your ferret would be 6 palmspans (approx 2 fores or 66 cm), which is just over 2 ft long (approx 26 inches). ;)

From www.santharia.com/bestiar..._fire.htm:

Quote:
"Appearance. The Fire Ferret is commonly double the size of the Common Ferret (up to 6 palmspans in length and 2 palmspans tall),"

Size was never a problem, it was the weight of the little rascal I questioned. ;)

Actually:
a palmspan is 10 cm
a ped is 1 m
a fore 1/3 of a ped = 33 cm = aprox 1 foot (not exact)

Palmspan  Equals 1/3 of a fore, about 10 nailsbreadths (10 cm, 1 decimetre)

Fore Equals 1/3 of a ped (33 cm), derives from the term "fore arm"

Quote is from this link:
www.santharia.com/compend...eights.htm

If a palmspan equals 1/3 of  a fore (33 cm), then you do the math. I've already been informed at the dev board that measurements are approximations though, which I was very careful to note in my post. :p   :D

I know. But here we use something that resembles the metric system.
1 ped = 1 m
1 palmspan = 10 cm
1 nailsbreadth = 1 cm

And a fore is about 1/3 of a ped and about 3 palmspan. Not exact. Could be in between as wel. But in general, take 1 ped to be 1 m and use the measurements in cm between the brackets.

Title: Re: hmmm
Post by: Mac the Slayer on August 19, 2005, 07:04:22 PM
Then "we" need a chart with that info, and a disclaimer for the docs that say otherwise. ;)

My post at the dev board was regarding the issue of a ped being a meter according to mods, when the documentation (same link as above) says it's "roughly 1 metre or approx. 3 feet", which makes it exactly neither one (btw, I requested a change to "approx 3.25 feet" in the docs which was categorically denied).

I personally don't care what the measurements are, but am a little frustrated with mods constantly correcting us for using the documented info.

That will be one of the next things to discuss and clear with the other admins - how to use the measurements. The converter produces very exact numbers - we don't need that, for rough measurements are sufficient.
See the thread about decimals I started in the dev-forum.

R'vahr, if you ever want to compete with Rayne in the length and display(?) and content  of your char you have to change your NaNO. See it as a challenge! It doesn't look, like you are lazy...
For now, I move your CD down.

Well thank you very much Talia, and I will try to help out here in the CD thread. The admins and mods have spent way to much time correcting my CD's, and I need to give back some!

I've gotten as far as Strengths and Weaknesses, and have redone mepher. The history is so far untouched and needs alot of work, but expect it to be done within the month. I know that the Str and Weaknesses are unbalanced, and any suggestions are welcome. Even if you are new, your input is greatly appreciated! Hell, maybe reading my CD will give you some Ideas!

Done with history, the only thing I need to put in now is the explaination of the Claws history.

Talia, what are you looking for when you are looking to approve mithril?

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

Maybe best to put this on top or so in case people don't scroll down.

Did you know you sometimes repeat things? For example:
Quote:
Weaknesses

While usually amiable and peaceful, R'vahr hates orcs with a passion. He sees them as the destroyers of everything that is good, and can never trust them. The hunter rarely gives them a second's chance, labling them as things that must be killed upon recognition.

R'vahr is very trusting, and cannot concieve that he himself could have enemies. He feels that everybody should like him, and if they don't, they simply dont know who he is. He would trust any human, elf, gnome, halfling... basicly anything but a dirty orc.

R'vahr hates orcs, and distrusts them in every way. He disregards anything they have to say and sees them as only brutes and killers. Their words are only lies and they should be killed on sight. Too bad they are bigger, stronger, and know how to rip people apart.

I don't see how these are much different from oneanother. It's a bit the same in your strenghts, although less noticible. Basicly you're a great hunter with a strong pet that can easily woo women, but you're a bit naive and hate orcs. Unless I missed something, I think you'll need another weakness to balance things out.

As for mithril, I would say the better your background story for it, the easier it will be approved.

And weren't you blind? Or is my memory failing?

sorry for the double post, but im lazy!

I fixed the doubling up on strengths and weaknesses. I do so many edits that I sometimes lose track of what I ahve already writtten. I will try to think up of annother weakness... And expect a history on the blades that is extensive, in depth, and boring very soon.

I really do not see this character as too overpowered. He does not stand a chance against characters like Dagon Cherri, Nikoli or ghost or Darien, Let alone Kain, Ne'iav'rine, or even the old R'vahr! This guy has never, and never will (hopefully) killed anyone! .

Then again... I also have no trouble with finding annother weakness, and respect your opinion Marivin. Hmmm.... maybe he is addicted to a certain moss?... no... Hey! Would you consider Insomnia a weakness?

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

Combat does not necesarrily mean overpowered or not. One can be EXTREMELY overpwoered, and not be good at combat at all. It's an issue of balance, not how well someone can fight.

OK, I have a few comments on this character.

Strengths And weaknesses. 2 comments

1: Combine Mephers strengths with yours, same with the weaknessess. Makes everything a whole lots easier for the mods, and the readers.

2: It would seem to me that your character is quite overpowered. Anyone skilled enough to hunt with CLAWS is still capable of killing the average person with little difficulty, and your level weakness does not seem to match your strength.

The Claws:

Mithral is restricted, and inheritence is not an allowable means of gaining it. You will have to come up with something better.

Mepher. 2 comments

1: The ferret would not follow you, for it does not eat "scraps of food", it eats minerals. The animal is also elusive and rare enough that Rvahr would have no way of knowing that it does eat minerals, and could not entice it with such. Not to mention the fact that said minerals would be literally under the Ferrets feet

2: The ferret would also not stay with you, since you do not hang around volcanic areas at all times, and thus it would continuously getting sick. Or so mepher's weakness states.

On the mithril, I am not an idiot, and as such you should not treat me like one. There will be more

On mepher. The volcanoe is close enough that he would not get sick. He eats it because he likes the taste, and is a strange ferret like that. And he follows/stays with me because he feels a deep connection with me from the start.

I am not trying to trreat you like an idiot, and if i came across that way, then i apologize.

The Mithril: that's a question for the CD mod / admins. Their choice, but the restrictions page says it won't be allowed, so i would suggest just finding a new way of getting them.

On Mepher.

How did this bond develop? The way you describe the meeting of the creature seems impossible to me, for aforementioned reasons. and are you ALWAYS near volcanos? if you are, you should mention it in the CD.

Luca is really good at balancing, so i will take her word for it on monty.

Also, you still have not acknowledged my worries about how you actually get the fire ferret to your home village.

It would not follow you becaus eyou give it "scraps of food". it mainly eats minerals, something R'vahr would not know about, what with the Scorcher being a rare and elusive animal with little contact with humans. Thus, you would not get it to your village that way.

I will find a way soon enough...

He will have rolled onto some sulfur ore crystals on his way into the crevice. Mepher is attracted to him, intrigued by him because he has never seen a human before, and feel like they should be together for some reason. H'ilfk and the taloned eagle are working together on this one!

Well, inheritence is an allowable to gain mithril claws, but you need an explanation as to how it came into the possession of your ancestors.

And I have to agree with Pikel that if you can kill an animal with those claws, your going to have some pretty decent skills in combat as well. Add the ferret to that and you'll be doing pretty well in a combat situation. Also, not knowing any form of self defence is not even a weakness.

well he could "hunt" a human like an assassin, but actuall melee combat he has no skill in.

EDIT

Well I worked some on the Strengths and weaknesses, see if these fit your palets any better. Also I think he may have a very kewl Moon Death... Somehow...

Edit

Still thinking about the moon death... oh and the claws shall not be mithril, as it is not as kewl or fitting as black Iron.

Edit

Ok, put in the moondeath, and changed up some of the more difficult to believe history stuff... kinda. I think he is now ready for serious commentation!:biggrin :read

lol I can pretend like I am new if you like, I mean it has been a while since ive been back, so it's kinda the same thing. I actually read your cd when I was looking to join a story with Slye. I think you have her in WOTF right and possibly in Voldar? Anywho I liked your avatar felt obliged to check her out and she made me remember that I had created a not so nice character a while back. Pulled her out of the back of the closet, converted her over to Caelereth and bada boom bada bing the rest as they say is history.

And you know even though your cd is fairly long I think that those are great inspirations and great examples at what a person can do with a CD, specially for new players. Teaches them how stories can flow and what not. So I always suggest that new playes look over longer character descripitions, specially if they are good. The long read is sometimes worth it, well thats my opinion anyway lol

*Here I go taking over your CD again, sorry about that!

History and anything below is for another time. I think you're S/W is fine in terms of balance now.

Quote:
Weaknesses
...
While usually amiable and peaceful, R'vahr hates orcs with a passion. He sees them as the destroyers of everything that is good, and can never trust them. The hunter rarely gives them a second's chance, labling them as things that must be killed upon recognition. This would not be such a weakness, if it were not for the great number of orcs in his adventuring occupation, and for the fact that they are so much more powerfull than he is.

There are almost no orcs running around in Southern Santharia (not counting Ximax). They are very rare, even in the adventuring business. There might be some people with orcish heritage in the northern parts though.

Quote:
Strengths
...
He is independent from his exile. He can live off of the land without any troubles. He lives through the worst that nature can hand him, with the aid of Mepher. Having lived inside a volcanoe most of his life, he can survive. He can survive the deathly cold that seeps into your bones, and the scorching heat of magma. The scarcity of meat and water and the toxic gases that vent from the earth are his every day nuances. If R'vahr is to be left in the middle of a harsh wildnernss with nothing but Mepher upon his shoulders, he can not only survive, but thrive.

It sounds like R'vahr lived in the vulcano and I was wondering if you meant Mepher. (Haven read the history yet.)

Seeing as there are three "orc" characters on the boards, I thought it was fitting... I will change it if you need though;)

He lived just south of the forge. Gorgomounths forge (do not even try to correct me on spelling) is a volcano. R'vahr has lived around and within a volcanoe for 14 years of his life, i think.

I am going to change rvahrs claws to fangs, if you ever saw riddick, the saber knives.;)

Edit

Ok, I think I am seriously done with the character now! Feel free to comment again. Soon there will be a picture of the Fangs and of the new R'vahr.:b

I changed the thing about the orcs.

I know where you're hiding, I may have no eyes, but you reek of fear. You are a stain upon my senses. I can feel you shiver against the cold, I can hear your breath escape your lips, and I can taste the sweat on your brow. With that in mind, you have reason to be deathly afraid.

I will color changes. Uh, Hennet carries water with him, as well as enough dried meat. Sleeping, he sleeps when he has to, and stays up when he needs to.

About the orcs, Ne'iav'rine is going to leave after dinner, and R'vahr is not waking up till morning. He really doesn't like orcs, and distursts them, and hates those who do trust them, but is also a pacifist.

Lol. I didn't really mean the spelling error, but just the larger things.

Quote:

What's K'ln?

The whole spider story seems a bit farfetched. The giant spiders hunt with webs, so the way you describe it seems a bit unlikely. Also, biting will most likely be for prey only (for easy consumption) so it's doubtful the spider will try to bite you (as you're not in the web you're probably be considered an enemy rather than a prey) but just cut you in half instead.

Quote:
The thought brought a smile to R'vahr's lips, and displayed his flashing canines.

I disregarded this in your appearance, but why do you have canines? Humans normally don’t have them.

Mepher:
Quote:
Sulfur is used in the synthesis of many important chemicals that keep his body in balance and helps with the lighting of his tail.

Maybe reword this without 'synthesis' and 'chemicals'.

Just thought of something. Humans are doing rather good in the reproduction department and Santharia doesn't have really have/use much anti-conception. If you slept with so many women, won't you have a few toddlers running about?

k'ln are runorian coins

I find it at its web, and it is going to kill the girl stuck in the web.

It bites me because that is how all spiders defend themselves, it does not have an axe with which to dismember me. It saw an opening and attacked, stabing into my shoulder. After biting, injection is uncontrolable, just like snakes.

All humans have four canine, or eye, teeth. they are just outside the incisors.

He probably does have some sons and daughters, but wanders so much that he doesn't know about them.

That's what I figured, but since the search thing didn't catch anything I asked anyway :p  So the new question is: why is Runorian coin accepted in Santharia?

Quote:
Around the woman's ankle was a thick cord of spidersilk.

That doesn't sound really 'stuck in the web'. You would expect that if only your foot is attached you'll be able to get yourself out. Also, how did she get into that web? If it's a thick cord, then why didn't she notice it?

Quote:

The biting is probably mostly used for digestion since they have their pincers to defend themselves more effectively.

Quote:

I know what canines are :)  It's just that I thought they were more like small fangs compared to the regular human ones from the way you wrote about them.

considering that the standard of gold is gold, trade can be done freely, unlike today where the standard is a trust in the stability in the governing body.

As such gallions were interchangeable with ducats, though gallions were worth condiderably more, because they are made of finer gold and are larger.

I am assuming that the spider's webs are difficult to dicern in some form, or they would nevere catch any prey large enough, and anything thin is not going to hold prey large enough.  Let's say she tripped, and the cord is sticky, so the more you struggle the more web grabs you.

And you are correct, they do have pincers. I changed that part of the history, with red ink.;)

R'vahr has had larger than normal canines since the begining, so that he can relate to myself, since I have very defined canines, and also to give him more of an animalistic appearance. So they are shaper, larger, and more glisteny than the average canine, but not overblown to the point of impossibility.

Nice pic!

A nice layout deserves a spellcheck!

Hair: Nor'sidian or white
Eyes: Black with golden flecks
Height: 5 fores
 Weight: 1 pygge 4 hebs
Handed: Ambidextrous

Overview

R'vahr is an outgoing man, who loves to have a good time. He uses his cunning, skills and physical prowess to the best of their ability; because of this he had a  tendency to get what he wants, usually female attention. His greatest companion is Mepher the ferret, who is always by his side.

Language

Since R'vahr speaks four languages I have a legend to his thought/speech colors. The chart below should be helpful when rping with The Hunter in Darkness.

Tharian
Thoughts
Phthian
Eyelian

Appearance

R'vahr's hair is  naturally   Nor'sidian, and  silkily   smooth. He tends to dye it white when he can afford the expense, however, appealing to the interesting contrast. The lightest he can get it is a pale gray. He keeps it long, slightly past his shoulders  usually  , and sometimes puts it in a clean ponytail.

Upon the back of the jacket a flaming  Scorcher   is depicted. The leather of this  garment   is  strong   and well made. Both breasts also have six  buttoned   pockets which he can store small things in.

He wears no  jewellry   aside from the stylized turtle brooch on his left  breast   for the  people   of his birth, and a couple eagle's feathers woven into his hair for the Eyelians, who are the people of his soul.

More to come!

Weaknesses

R'vahr has deep rooted flaws, most stemming from his passionate immaturity. He is rash and youthful in action. He is known to get himself in trouble with an invalid boast, or for a woman, no matter her guilt. He is susceptible to violent mood swings and acts irrationally almost at random. His heart fills with fire and his mind is clouded, he takes onto his passion and lets his spirit control himself.

The hunter rarely gives them a second's chance, labelling them as things that must be killed upon recognition. This would not be such a weakness, if not for the fact that they are so much more powerful than he is. R'vahr will never be able to accept anyone who allies himself with an orc, and cannot trust, follow, or listen to them until they have shunned the beast as a monstrosity.

Because of his natural talent with other people, especially women, some grow very envious of R'vahr. People who are base and crude find his success to be an insult to themselves, especially if they feel he is moving in on there territory. R'vahr does not think of people as his or hers, simply as people. He does not understand how he could be offending the men in a bar if all the girls are surrounding him and giggling. He just sees them as people who want affection, love, and ingenuity . These envious dregs are also, sadly, the kind of people who find that they must stoop to violent action to solve their problems, and instead of becoming better, more enlightened people by his example, usually try to have his legs broken. R'vahr, also regrettably , needs his legs.

Because of his wild lifestyle, R'vahr has a hard time sleeping. When he eventually does fall into a slumber it is anything but deep. He awakens at the slightest sound. He has a hard time getting a full nights rest. These bouts of insomnia can last for weeks, though as with all cases of sleep deprivation, symptoms disappear after one good nights rest. Lack of sleep can cause: Lack of judgement, physical weakness, lack of motivation, slow thought process, hallucination, difficulty staying awake, and other various symptoms .

R'vahr loves women. Their beauty transcends sight and the voice of a pretty girl can send him spinning. He could be hunted by the town guard and be sitting in plain sight flirting with some girl. Though women tend to like him back, the devious ones will sometimes try to use him. He will get in serious trouble for a cute smile, and will risk his life for a street adress. If he finds a woman in need, even if she is the original perpetrator, he will come to her aid.

R'vahr is very trusting, and cannot conceive that he himself could have enemies. He feels that everybody should like him, and if they don't, they simply don't know who he is.

R'vahr's fangs are very brittle. If they are caught in bone the wrong way, or hit something hard with too much force, they can easily break. As such he must be very precise with his attacks, and cannot use them for any kind of defensive combat. His slash must be unexpected and calculated. If caught unawares, or in direct melee combat, he risks breaking his prized fangs. They are too brittle to be used against an armored foe.

He is nimble in action and his hard sinewy body gives him the strength one needs to survive on their own.

The hardness and razor sharpness of Black Iron is renowned . The black fangs tend to intimidate would be foes with their wicked serration and curved blades, each almost a fore long.

He seems to almost have a sixth sense , this infact is simply his ability to notice and react. In the wild, being observant is the difference between life and death.

His body is amazingly sensually attractive. Women find it hard to resist him, and usually he needs no aid when searching for a companion to keep his tavern bed warm.

He is kind and extroversive , and has no trouble with people skills.

While his relationships are shortlived, he rarely lacks a few girls to hang around with, with his body and personality. He loves to hear them speak, and their touch exhilarates him, he can almost always be found near a woman. Sometimes his little hobby gets him in trouble, though he likes the feel of danger and the unknown.

Even more so than women, orcs get R'vahr in trouble. He hates orcs with a liquid rage, it is in his blood. His tribe has been under siege by orcish hordes for centuries, and he cannot forgive them for the crimes they have committed . Any orc is a being to be mistrusted and hopefully lynched. R'vahr can never trust any orc, or any of orc blood. He does not listen to reason when around Orc flesh, his mind thinks only of how to kill them.

R'vahr is very extroversive , with a talkative spirit and amiable nature. He is outgoing and has no trouble striking up a conversation. He loves to be around people, and trusts almost any human to the point of flaw. It is not rare for him to be telling the tale of how he hunted down that giant wolverine in some tavern or another .

The hunt is a dance to him, an artform, a prayer. He will be open and upfront on his feelings about a person, but would rather settle them over a few beers and some intelligent discussion, or if the person be female, a bed.

He has shadowed many scholars of R'unor and understands, in theory, how many of their mechanical wonders operate . Because of this, sprinkled within his speech are deep insights and complex verbiage .

He feels that he has to impress people, and rise above their shallow expectations .

R'vahr senses usually take hint of potential thieves , and he does not take kindly to their potential actions.

He also has a well made spear, which is made for hunting larger game at a distance. His he usually carries as a walking stick. His fangs are usually stuck in his karikrimson sash, with the handles turned just so, that they should be quickly accessible . His silver MoonDeath is kept safe at his hip, in a quick release sheath. Lastly he carries at his hip a dagger. It has an obsidian blade, and a handle in the shape of an eagle.

Weapons

One of R'vahr Fangs.

R'vahr main tools are his fangs.

Etched around the circumference is a burning Scortcher.

No spellcheck this time, but it is surely needed!

History

R'vahr mother was from the R'mart tribe and had some political power, she was wed to his father in hopes of bringing the Phthia clan out of its isolationist rut and into the modern day. The attempt failed though, as Shi'thia quickly fell in love with the lifestyle of the Phthia, and Hen'net.

He'net's village had many bitter battles with orcs attempting to attack the nearby Ironclaw, the warriors and their brilliant leader repelled each. When entering battle Hen'net wore black ceremonial robes with a red sash about his wrist for his son and another wrapped around his waist for his wife. Upon his arms he boasted twin bladed gauntlets that had been passed down the ages, family heirlooms.

The handle curved back so that the blades were ninety degrees from the weilders hand.

The blade was given to him on his next birthday.

He has trained himself in it's most simplistic use, and can hurl the weapon accurately up to four peds. If the weapon does not hit anything along the way, it curves back to it's weilder.

He loved spending time with his son, and the two would stay in the wilderness with only eachother for weeks at a time.

He wanted to bring glory to his people, and see the outside world. His lusts for new experiances often caused him to wander out by his own.

The wild consumed much of R'vahr's time, and often he felt a deep connection with nature. He learned from the animals about him, and soon became wise in the way of the beast. He slid down the wall of the crevise, and found nothing but a small hole. A fearful thought came to mind, and he looked back up the crevice wall. The walls were too steep for him to climb, the crumbled as soon as his weight rested on them. ()Comments

Mepher smelled like sulphur and he winced slightly at the rank, it was larger than he had thought, nearly bigger then he himself. He reached out and touched it, brushing his fingers against the hard leathery hide. Its flesh felt hot, and his nose was wet. He reached into the small bag tied to his waist, and offered the animal some food, which was promptly devoured. Mepher than began to pull at R'vahr's pant leg, urging him towards annother side tunnel. Having no other guide, the boy followed, and was soon in the light of day again.

He then went home, and was was unsuprised when the ferret began to follow him. He felt a bond with the animal, as if they should have always been together, and would be together for the rest of time. It was not for many years that Mepher was able to share his feelings directly to R'vahr, but when he could, EzCode Parsing Error: color=#99FF99] he/font]e allowed R'vahr to know that he followed the boy for one reason, because it was the only right thing to do. The two became the greatest of companions, and R'vahr soon began to learn of the ferrets various needs. Every few months they would return to the Forge, and Mepher would stock up on the various minerals and chemicals that the villiage lacked.

Nothing could take away the emptyness. He had slept with every young woman in his village, and most of the young women from Ironclaw. Yet he felt no companionship from any of them. Only from his mother and father could he feel any attatchment. He told them of this, and they asked him to examine what he really wanted. He spent three months in the forest of souls, and discovered that he had tasted evertything Ru'nor had to offer.

Within the satchel were twelve small triangles of platnum, each with a ruby set in the center. They were a gift from his grandfather, of the R'mart tribe. It was enough currancy for him to purchuse whatever he may need in his journey.

He had to traverse through EzCode Parsing Error: color=#99FF99] Centorauria - but it is now Vardyn and Xar, allowing Mephér to feed on any abandoned or not so abandoned mines they came across until he came to the Ilian Plateau.

He explained of his journey and the trials he had gone through in order to make his appearance, and asked to be intiated as one of their own. He told them that he was the son of a great cheiftain from a far isle, who knew of the ways of nature, and wished to learn from the Eyelian people.

In responce, the cheiftain told him of the solidarity of the Eyelians, and how they must keep their secerets their own. Mepher lept from R'vahr's shoulders and ran in the direction of the call, and was soon overtaken by R'vahr's own long strides.

The sight that they came upon was horrifying. A gaint black spider, with glossy armor and massive fangs. It was creeping toward a woman, who was pulling at her leg. Around the woman's ankle was a thick cord of spidersilk. The beast was at least two peds long, and four peds in diameter. R'vahr was frozen in a moment of fear, and Mepher was not.

The ferret screeched and lept onto the creatures back, slashing deep furrows into the thick black plates of the spider's back. R'vahr caught himself and ran to the woman, who had an unnaturual beauty. With three quick slashes of his razor sharp fangs, he freed her ankle, and noted that it was badly twisted. She tried to limp away, but fell forward, gripping her ankle in pain. R'vahr spun to face the great Comments tormentor, and was quickly beset by it's glistening fangs and pincer ridden claws.

He ducked as a pincer came at his head, and felt the ground shudder in responce. The Tormentor rended the earth wherever R'vahr was, and only due to his great physical prowess could the boy survive. Mepher was flung from the spider as it lept to smash into R'vahr, the ferret flew through the air and smashed into a large tree. He whimpered in pain then fell limp. R'vahr lept to the side, attempting to save himself from being crushed by the great monster, but was not fast enough. A great pincer grasped his thigh and pulled him in. Without a moment's hesitation he slashed down with his left fang, slicing cleanly through the limb that held him. He fell onto the earth with a thud, and tried to roll to his feet.

As he came onto his knees, a peircing pain wracked his right shoulder. He turned to see one of the spider's spear like pincers shoved viciously into his flesh. His eyes slowly moved from the pincer, to the caverous maw, which dripped with hunger, then to the cold, dead eyes. The tormentor fell limp, then writhed in false death throes.

R'vahr rose shakily, and came to the girl. His body was succumbing to the shock and bloodloss that the great gaping wound had caused, he knew he would soon die. He could feel himself grow cold. He whistled softly, and mepher, who had risen moments earlier, came to his side. Taking strength from what must have been a divine source, R'vahr lifted the women, who had fainted in terror and pain, onto his ragged shoulders.

She was the daughter of the cheiftain. He thought her voice was beautiful, and was glad that she visited him often. They would talk and laugh, she would brighten his days of confinement, and he felt closer to her than any other human in the world. His lonelyness ebbed away, and for a time he felt at peace, and full of life and joy.

A week after the adventure, R'vahr recovered enough to walk around the city, and was brought once more to the Cheiftain.

He would simply smile in responce.

The ferret was sure to eat to his hearts content, so he could last out the ten days with his human companion.

He examined what he wanted out of his existance, and why he existed. The grin still curved at the left corner of R'vahr's mouth, pulling it maybe ten grains higher than usual. He thought hard of his life and his purpose. His future worried him and he wondered if this was it. Woud he always be here in Vezash?

This was his chance for greatness. He knelt down and prayed to the Taloned Eagle for another day and on the fourth day of his travels he rested, Mephér upon his chest, both wearied deeply and deeply gratified. His eyes were now flecked with gold, and had a depth and percision.

She would need to marry a man of the people, a man to hold her every night, and () by her side. He told her he would return one day, and return for her. Then he set out back north, for Vardynn. He had heard there was turmoil there, and maybe he could find his purpose with those great warriors.

Mepher

Overview:

R'vahr is of course gifted with Mepher. Mepher is a fire ferret with a mischievious heart. He is much larger than your average ferret, standing at 2 palmspans tall and 6 long. He has no fur, instead a black leathery hide protects him from the harmful environment from which he hails. He has sharp black eyes that gleam with a cunning joy, reflecting his theiving heart.

- Scortchers exude toxins, and are immune to almost any poison.

- When fueled with excess sulfure, Mepher can light his tail with a blue flame. The small fire can provide light or warmth, and burn foes in a pinch.

- Ferrets are skilled theives, and have been stealing shiny things from humans for hundreds of years. Mepher uses a mixture of charm, cunning, and dexterity to obtain coins, food, and other items of value.

- Mepher's bones, teeth, and claws are usually bonded with excess metals. They are not as strong as steel, but stronger by far than normal bones. His claws are amazingly sharp and his teeth are like needles.

Weaknesses:

- Mepher needs a constant supply of minerals to stay healty.

When he does not ingest proper amounts of sulfur he grows very ill as his body's roiling acids and bases begin to tear him apart from within, this of course is the extreme case. If he replenishes his stores before reaching a coma state, then his body will balance itself and begin to heal within the week. More commonly he cannot light his tail by his own will.

-Metals are of course somewhat difficult to get a hold of in the large quantities that Mepher requires in order to lace his bones with metal.

-Because of the toxins that he expels through his skin, Mepher can have a pungeunt smell, which attracts any creature with a nose to his position, and also can repel potential friends.

You changed your CD quite a bit! Not blind any longer! One thing is missing now - the reason for your intense hate for orcs. You never did encounter any noor had any loos though them. Of course you can hate them, as all of your people do - but with such great passion? In your first version there was a reason, they slayed your father and the village. Not so now. Not that I want your family killed, but this is a bit off now.

... I will run it through spell check once I have a computer that is up to the task:upset  as it is, works is not flying at all!

I will do the grammar errors right now. He hates them because his people are in constant war defending themselves from the beasts. This means that he does not trust them and finds the people who do trust them to be ignorant and niave. He has probably lost friends to the raiders, but I found it too insignificant to add to my already long history.

Well, your history is long, so a short paragraph of three or four sentences don't add much to the length. Just add it somewhere to your education part (mark it coloured!) and explain this intense hate. That you grew up with learning it, that your heard of an uncle that was killed, and another relative etc. Your hate is too intense, away from any rational reasoning that it could be just a general dislike . It is rooted deep in you. But that's all.

As for spellchecking, breaking the thing up in smaller parts might speed up works. Also, there's a free spellchecker in my sig.
