Title: Miraran Tehuriden, Ter'ei'Vikh scholar. Post by: Miraran Tehuriden on June 27, 2006, 02:09:23 AM Miraran ‘Mira’ Tehùriden
Gender: Male Age: 32 Race: Human Tribe: Ter'ei'Vikh Tehùriden Title: Greenkeeper Physical appearance: Standing at about nineteen palmspan, Miraran is fairly long for a Ter'ei'Vikh, an impression further reinforced by the somewhat androgynous facial features and slender build that mark this tribe. The comparison end here though, for where the "Vikh are dark skinned with bright white hair, Mira is quite the opposite, displaying the pale skin and n'orsidian black of some of his most distant Lillivear ancestors. His eyes are dark green, which is emphasised by the grey lines that appear to radiate from his pupils, giving a cheerfull, lighthearted effect, which suits him just fine. He moves in an elegant, but sadly imbalanced way, as he tends to start walking, get distracted, get distracted again, fail to notice the root sticking up.. well, you get the idea. This is partially explained from living within the trees of the Drifting Woods of Nybelmar for fifteen years, but it would most certainly help if he'd keep his mind and his feet together a bit better. Clothes: Often, Miraran wears nothing more than a simple turei, a type of wrap-skirt, from Faen-bought fabrics as is custom amongst the Ter'ei'Vikh of northwestern Nybelmar. Currently, no Tehùriden possesses exceptional weaving skills, and the slightly more open-minded outcasts have happily adopted the outlandish, often exotically coloured fabrics the merchants bring in. Miraran himself favours brown, green and yellow cloths, and is rarely seen in some of the more fanciful reds and purples, preferring to limit himself to "Wood Colors", as he calls them, although he is quite enamoured with the simple line-patterns used by the Faen weavers. An added benefit is of course, that the dirt marks that come with his botanical studies are easily concealed on these colors. For more official matters, he will wear long, concealing hooded cloaks, that cover all but his head. (As long as he is not using the hood, of course.) He sticks to monocolored fabrics for these garments, (but can be expected to just wear the turei underneath anyway!) and if at all possible, black ones at that. Personality: Inquisitive, trusting, yet slightly distant, Miraran is a walking social juxtaposition. While he is always interested in meeting new folk, hearing their stories and learning about their backgrounds, he is equally seclusive about his own life, both before and after his exile. He is often socially active, but this appears to be somewhat of an act, that hides his inbred distrust of all Earth Children. He is especially distant towards Dwarves, but has taken a liking to those few Elves he has met during his travels. Miraran hunts knowledge, especially on natural phenomena, wherever he goes, and is always on the lookout for new paths to take and new sights to discover. He has always liked traveling, but avoids mountainous regions as much as possible, preferring open fields and forested areas. Strengths: -Spirit Song magic. A magic possessed by all Ter'ei'Vikh, Miraran may use his ability to communicate with the spirits to shape and direct living things so a small degree. Because he is not one of the true "Vikh, he cannot join others in song to enhance his powers. Its effects are limited to chasing off animals, making a flower bloom, and somewhat enhancing the natural healing processes of a wounded individual. More usefull are its spiritual possibilities, by means of which he can access the spirit world to commune with the powerfull spirits of certain places, detect lifeforms, and receive guidance from his ancestors. -Distant contacts. A result of his employment at the Enkyclopedia Nybelmarnica, Miraran knows people all over the world. Would he need to travel far, he can usually rely on these contacts for information and help. -Ecological knowledge. His studies are focused on the ways of nature, and have taught him much about the way an ecosystem functions. He can put this to his advantage in many ways when out in the wild, as he can 'read nature's scrolls', and more often than not deduct if a plant is edible, how a disease should be treated, and which way certain animals or plants might be found. -Dark Councillors. While in Nybelmar, especially the northwestern regions, the myths of the Dark Councillors help protect him from unwanted attention. Robbers are likely to leave him be as long as he wears the required cloak, and very few people will try to deter him from going about as he pleases. Weaknesses: -Outcast. As a Ter'ei'Vikh in whom the ancient Lillivear bloodlines are dominant, Miraran has no real family or a proper home. "Proper" being located in the elevated villages of the "Vikh. Although he has come to terms with this, the conflict between his situation and the way his life should have been still slumbers deep within him. -Kindness. A quality often admired in people, has gone a bit overboard in Miraran's case. Always ready to believe in someones good intentions, and able to forgive nearly everything done to him, this aspect of Miraran's may eventually lead him into deep, deep trouble. -Partial claustrophobia. Raised in the belief the Earth Spirit is a malevolent being that will not hesitate to harm him at every chance, Miraran will not go underground no matter what the consequences. -Pacifistic. Miraran does not hunt or kill living beings unless he would be in dire need of nourishment. This means that he will either try to disable a threat (a hunting predator for instance), usually through magical means, or flee. This does not apply to the lower animals, such as insects and other invertebrates, although he will always try to kill nothing he will not eat, and may at times go for weeks without eating anything animal in nature. -Mild xenophobia. Although the Tehùriden have to shrug the Ter'ei'Vikh way of constant distrust to all outsiders in order to survive, Miraran is still a bit squeamish about getting more than superficially involved with groups of non-"Vikh people, especially when away from home. Weapons: None in his possession, but he has had some training in the use of the typical ranged hunting tools used by the Ter'ei'Vikh, mainly the Matan and the thrown short spear. Sadly, he has never been much good at it. It is not recommended to count on his aim when under pressure, or to stand anywhere than directly behind him on all occasions. Fortunately for him, he prefers fishing anyway. History: Miraran was born on the 24th Molten Ice of 1635 A.S. As usual it was a smooth delivery, and surrounded by most of this relatives, Mira came into this world into the warm embrace of their voices. His dark hair was at the time no reason for concern at all. After all, one out of five children is born dark-haired, and it nearly always pales before their fifteenth year. Nearly. And a little dark-haired boy lived peacefully for years, never wondering why the few dark streaks of his friends faded over time, while his did not. He was taught to survive outside the villages, how to find food, and how to avoid the many dangers that lie waiting for a reckless movement, or momentary lack of attention. He was taught the ways of dealing with the Spirits, and how they would affect him in return, and was taught that only malevolent beings lived beyond the woods, spirits and creatures of the Earth Master, Kalim. And then one day he turned sixteen, and was the last dark-haired child for miles around. He of course knew now what it meant, and what would happen that day. Like most of his kind, he prepared himself, traveling to the Gates of M'aghin just before his sixteenth birthday. There he waited until the moon rose, and, without family or friends to see him off, left his tribe to become Tehùriden, impure, outcasted. The village just within the forest's reach on the banks of the Metherinin was forewarned of his arrival, and accepted him without further ado. As such he was given shelter and food until he built his own home, and learned the speech of the Faen and Morchini traders that relied on the outcasts for translation and mediation in their transactions. It was not the life he had imagined himself to lead, but it was a life. A life that would take an interesting turn when a charismatic man came with the Faen, and with a thick accent introduced himself as Coren Frozenzephyr of Anis-Anpagan, claiming to need a translator to speak with the Ter'ei'Vikh at the Gates. As it turned out, the poor man wanted to be granted access to the deep woods, to gather data for something he called an "Enkyclopedia". It barely needs saying that the most ridiculous request was denied instantly, despite his most valiant efforts to convince anyone otherwise. Five years later, Miraran is an esteemed member of the scholarly organisation of the Enkyclopedia Nybelmarnica, and heads a small research facility near the Drifting Woods that gathers data on the Kaerath region. However, a recent message from the Enkyclopedia Hall at Hostar has been delivered to him, and immediately after receiving it, he packed his bags and left, along with his Apecat Zirry, with the first southbound Faen caravan that passed by. Familiars; Mira has a Cedi Apecat he received from his friend and colleague Decipher Ziron on a visit to the southern plains of Zhun. It was his first encouter with a catlike animal, and he was immediately sold. 'Zirry', named after Decipher, seemed equally enamoured with the Ter'ei'Vikh, and traveled back north with him. It is now the communal favourite, and the playmate of the youngest Tehùriden, often to be found on the lap of one of the newest arrivals. As most Cedi living with Humans, Zirry is just as wild and stubborn as any animal, although significantly more lazy since her food is taken care off (In fact, she has put on some weight due to being pampered by an entire community.) She is just over ninety nailsbreadths long, not counting the tail, and displays the characteristic brown fur with golden stripes of her kind. It is the inborn curiosity of the Cedi that keeps her with Miraran, but it also might be that curiosity that will compell her to go her own way once again at some point in the future. I see that you're still working on this character, but maybe there are some things that I can already help you with. -5 peds is very tall. It's five metres, or if you're used to the other metric system, 16.25 feet. -everything from hair colour down to weight *can* be listed under physical appearance. -I don't think you can play a level 5 magician. Everything above 4 is restricted, so you need admin's permission for that ![]() I hope these small remarks help you on your way. Naya Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, for the hell of it.. Post by: Miraran Tehuriden on June 27, 2006, 06:57:23 AM Ack! can't believe i missed that.. it should be 5 fore, two span of course (1.85 m)
im not sure why i've got all thsoe things in seperate lines.. maybe i used an old template back when i wrote this.. I've been working on the magic bit, and i'm currently hoping my involvement in magical development, both theoretical, as the spell i've made, will convince the admins to allow me the extra level. ill edit the length bit now, but other things will have to wait untill i find time to actualy think about things for more than a few minutes...Thanks for pointing things out!

Post by: Miraran Tehuriden on June 28, 2006, 01:07:23 AM it fits my age.. otherwise i'd have spend YEARS doing nothing.. *shrugs* i'm well aware that it doesnt add anything game-wise, as there are no 5th level spells, and if the verdict is "No you can't be level 5!" ill grow younger and use level four... i actually wrote several parts of the CD (including magic level) a long time ago, and at the time didnt notice the 4+ level ban (its a bit confusing to have both a level 6+ and a level 4+ ban you know... i originally wrote him as a mage who never realy completed his studies)
Miraran prefers the physical spells because.. well, he just has more affinity with them than with those dealing with emotions and the like. Its like preferring cats over dogs.... hes not a pyromaniac of some sorts, and he knows how to do various non-physical spells.. he just likes the more 'obvious' spells more..

Title: Re: I would not dare ignore the wonderfull Mistress of Shend Post by: Ta'lia of the Seven Jewels on June 28, 2006, 05:55:23 AM Mira, we do have this ban for level 4+ now and I don't want to undermine it already now, though you definitely know more magic than most beginners. If your age is the only problem, just invent something why he stopped learning inbetween or why he was slow. Be inventive! make you char more interesting! (darn, haven't read him yet - will do soon!)

![]() I'm not sure what you mean by 'holding a spell', but if you mean 'being able to cast it' i mustpoint out i wrote no such thing.. i think you might be confused about the section in wich i describe "Little Mira" to see a Fire magus working his spells. There, he decides he wants to be a mage when he grows up, thinking "I want to be able to do that!" I think i've solved my timing problems as well.. not only am i arriving at Ximax at the age of 15 instead of 12, but i'll add some time in Milkengrad after studying at the academy for fifteen years.
Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Helcrani fire mage Post by: Pikel Thunderstone on July 07, 2006, 11:58:23 AM Pikel + Comment = LIME
Miraran ‘Mira’ Tehùriden Gender: Male Age: 32 Why is he thirty two and only level 4? I know it was because the admins paced a restriction on you, but it should be explained regardless in the CD. Race: Human Tribe: Milkengrad Ahai ( Helcrani ) Title: Flame of Helcrah Physical appearance: Standing a good five fores, two span tall, Miraran is a rather regular-looking man. Dark, short, wavy haired and blueish eyes, he clearly shows the blood of the Helcrani ancestors, much to the pleasure of his grandfather, one might add. His skin is tanned to some degree, obviously stating that, although scolarly by trade, this man has been outdoors for a fair amount of time. Tipping the scales at one pygge and five hebs, he is fairly in shape, although maybe not as much as when he was a young boy, riding his fathers horses and playing with his brothers. Clothes: A double-sided hooded cloak, long enough to cover him fully when standing, one side nearly black, one side of a bright crimson color. A not-so-special common blouse, usually in some shade of grey, brown, or in case of festivities, yellow. The previous two sentences are not sentences. They explain and list off your color, but please make them into setneces. Subject + verb and all that jazz. A sturdy, black leather belt, containing hit money and reagentia pouches as well as his sword, some leather riding boots of the centoraurian make, and some dark grey or light brown pants finish it off. Personality: Miraran takes great pride in his heritage. He fiercely tries to uphold the principles of honor and valor, but, as most Helcrani, he is easily distracted by more primal emotions, and quick to anger. He greatly enjoys to tease others, playing tricks on unsuspecting people nearby, often aided by his three sneaky rat friends Gnaw, Thief and Squeak. This is by no small amount the result of his childhood, as after suffering his brothers teasing for fifteen years, his fellow students at Ximax were utterly defenceless against his enormous arsenal of tricks. I would love to see this fleshed out a bit more. As of now, i have very little feel for how your character acts or thinks. Remember, personality dictates how you will RP this character and should thus, but fairly detailed. Strengths: -Magic, Fire level 4 -Fast thinking. Having several older brothers around while growing up is without doubt the best way to become a fast thinker. Victim to his brothers pranks and scemes for years, Miraran learned to think quick, and act even quicker. -Horsemanship, being the son of a horse breeder, Mira could ride before he could run properly. Even now he is quite a skilled rider, and needs neither saddle not reigns to ride a properly trained horse. Weaknesses: -No offensive weapon skills of importance. <- This is not a weakness. Most people do not have this skill. -Prone to acting _to_ fast, and making errors of judgement, as he often does not take the time to pass good judgement on a situation. His preferred way to get out of (and into) trouble runs along the lines of “Ack! Fireball! /runs away/” As of now, your character is far from balanced. You have a fast thinker, a powerful mage, and a trained horseman against someonewho is a bit impetuous. Think out your weaknesses more....don't be afraid to make them part of your personality. Weapons: Like most mages, Miraran is no great warrior, and has mastered no specific weapons. He might be able to deliver quite the -TWACK- with a staff or other club-like object, but don’t expect any fancy moves. As a helcrani child, he was due to receive some form of weapons training. However, is soon became obvious that the sword was not his best friend, and he resorted to the long dagger. As he aged, and grew, his dagger was replaced by a small helcrani shortsword. As a result, Miraran has a rather strange fighting style with his sword, using a mixture of dagger and shortsword techniques that often confuse an opponent trained in the 'proper' way of fighting. He can fend off an attacker for some time, and maybe even hurt a fairly bad warrior, but in the long run, his lack of regular practice over the last fifteen years has made him not quite the combatant he would have been, had he remained in Milkengrad and completed his warriors training. At his fifteenth birthday, only days before he would depart to Ximax, his brothers presented him with a sword of his own, marking his transition into Helcrani adulthood. He hasn't left the weapon behind ever since he got it, since it has their names (Árhamen and Kilérian) etched on the blade. Ok, the training he recieved should be mentioned, for whil he is out of practice, he has been trained alot more than the average person, and should thus be mentioned in strengths, making your character that much more imbalanced. Other Belongings: -a small pouch with various coins. -a glass lens, wrapped in soft cloth. -a whetstone. -a few pieces of chalk. -a worn leather bound book, wrapped in a piece of cloth. -a frayed and obviously much-used booklet bound in linnen. - a writing quill and a tightly closed bottle of black ink. - a large pouch containing his reagents, mostly ashes, sulfur, and various flame-coloring powders. - a leather saddlebag, easily converted to a backpack, containing his spare clothes, as well as the books and other trinkets he owns. History: Growing up youngest of three children, in a fairly wealthy family on the outskirts of Milkengrad, Miraran has had a relatively easy life. Loved by his family, he was left to learn his hearts desire when the time came to choose a path to follow through his life, as both of his brothers were already being educated in order to succeed their father when the time would be right. Drawn to the wonders traveling magi would sometimes perform at festivals, his young mind was easily set; “I want to do that too!”.. And so he would. Aged fifteen, he was given permission by his parents to attend Ximax, even though the magical arts are not as appreciated among the Helcrani as among other people, the backup of his Centoraurian grandmothers and his persistent desire to study there finally won through, and he went to study at the Tower of Fire. The next thirteen years went on in a remarkably peaceful way. The boy studied, practiced, and somewhere along the way grew up into a young man along the way. Almost a year before he wold actually leave the academy, Mira was trying to study in the Library of his Tower, when a small incident would bring him a fresh pair of life-long friends. Shouts and laughter of students made him look up from the tome he was studying, to see a Ximax cat pass him by on high speed, in pursuit of three small, and very fast creatures. Being accustomed to the residential cat's habit of hunting any Ximax Rat that dared enter the Tower of Fire, (as well as the occasional Imp wandering into places it shouldn't) and being not the biggest fan of the purple-eyed predators, his choice was made fast. Cats all around the tower had learned not to cross Miraran when he was in a bad mood, as singed tails didn't just hurt, but were a source of shame as well. This one was about to be reminded of that. Miraran muttered a few words, and flicked his hand as the cat ran him by. And had its tail ignited. Skidding to a halt against a book case, the furry beast managed to cast a small dowse spell on himself before getting seriously hurt, and shot Miraran a spiteful, purple look as his mid-day snacks escaped into a small gap between the wall's stones. That night, three small bundles of fur were sleeping on his bed when he entered his room. Trying to ignore them at first, the three rats would follow him everywhere they went, and even started luring cats behind them, only to flee to Miraran, who' se appearance now seemed to instill pacifism amongst most of the tower cats. Only a few months later, their playfulness would be the reason Miraran would leave the Academy. That day, Miraran was having spell practice with one of the older Magi, Flamemaster Brastarin, when suddenly one of his rats came almost flying through the door, the hungry jaws of one of the Cats almost closing around her tail. As the rat shot up his clothes and into his pocket, the cat, apparently not realizing who he was, tried to pounce up into his legs in order to chase the rat. That day, Miraran learned a few important things... - One should not try to create a fireball when a cat is climbing your legs. - One should also not turn to your mentor to ask for help when the disrupted casting is about to go up in a blaze of flames, scorching his beard off. The result of the day was that Miraran packed his belongings faster than ever before, and had already left the building before the magus, who was known for his bad temper at times, arrived at his erratic student's room. Familiars; The Rats Thief – Ximaxian Rat, Female, completely grey. Personality; Sneaky, mischievous. Gnaw – Ximaxian Rat, Male, black with grey and brown patches. Personality; Grumpy, 'being the big bad leader'. Squeak – Ximaxian Rat, Female, brown with grey patches. Personality; Curious, merry. You should go into far more detail as to the personalities of these creatures, their relationship with miraran, and how they came to be in his possession. Flesh it out alot more. Graystar – Horse, Centoraurian breed. Charcoal base color, manes and three socks (front left, front right, and back left) in barsa dusk, as well as a Seven-pointed star on the forehead. Bred (of course) by his father, Graystar has been Mira's loyal steed ever since his fifteenth birthday. Aged a sturdy 18 years, she is still at her primes, and not only a beauty to behold, but also possesses the famous speed and elegance of the Centoraurian horse breed. Preferred spells; - Flame Control - Rise Flame - Sparkling Stream - Searing - Light - Fireball - Flash It should be noted, that your mage level can only be 4, but mages can cast and learn spells of higher level than their level sometimes, especially if they are like you and concentrate on one aspect (physical representation in your case). Thus, you could possibly add fireblast and Blasing shield to your repetoire, for they are still sphere 1 and 2, not three, and are thus learnable by your character. As evident, Miraran prefers to set things aflame. Dowsing spells he can use efficiently, but all spiritual spells are avoided if possible, as Miraran prefers using the physical manifestations over the spiritual anytime. While he will be able to perform most spells of the fire school (as far as his training goes, of course), spells relying heavily on the spiritual aspect of Fire require a lot more effort from his side, mainly because he rarely practiced them. On the other side, his pyrokinetic spells are quite the sight, especially his beloved Sparkling Stream, a spell he has longed to learn even as a child, and has perfected as much as he could, ever from the moment he learned to perform it. This should be mentioned in strengths, it would help balance you. Good job with the character. As far as i can tell, the only problem here is your strengths and weaknesses. Balance out the character, flesh out personality, and this should be good to go ![]()

I know that it is needed for sphere 3 spells or any spell above level 6, but i have always been told that as long as you know the sphere, it is possible to learn spells of higher level should one be practiced and focused enough.

As the maximum level is now 3 that means admin approval is needed for any spell above level 3.
Also, the spell levels are there for a reason. Although it's perhaps possible to learn spells of higher level, I don't think it's something that should be done too much and I doubt Ximax would actually teach anyone above their level. I think mages have enough to do at their own level to keep themselves busy. After all, those levels were given for a reason. Orril: I have no idea what multiple schools have to do with this. Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Helcrani fire mage Post by: Pikel Thunderstone on July 10, 2006, 03:45:23 AM Marvin: usually i wouldn't suggest this for an average mage, But Miraran has specifically stated that he Concentrates on the Physical representation as opposed to Spiritual, thus it makes sense that he knows above level four. In fact, it does NOT make sense if he only knows up to level 4.
Further, I figured that the spells above level 6 were only banned for there overpoweredness. Since it hasn't been discussed, I assumed that spell levels remained the same. If one concentrates on only certain spells, then they could learn higher level. Maybe this should be discussed in the CD moderator forum? Orril: The maximum level is three. This was discussed in the CD moderator forum, which explains why you haven't seen it. Miraran has shown knowledge in magic, which is, i assume, the reason that he is allowed a level 4 mage.
Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Helcrani fire mage Post by: Marvin Cerambit on July 10, 2006, 11:10:23 PM Quote: Yes it does. It's not because you concentrate on a certain part of magic you automatically will learn spells that are higher then your own level, it will just mean you will do better at that part. It's possible to learn higher level spell, but not likely. The levels indicate when Ximax teaches the spells, so it's unlikely that people learn them before that. As far as I can remember, learning a few spells above your level has only been done for people that wanted a certain spell added. Aside from that, it shouldn't be a problem to add spells that are one level above you if you are still studying. Since you only officially get a level when you graduate from it you're going to be leaning stuff from that level before it. As long as things stay below level 4 of course. Oh, and if it says that level 4+ is restricted then it seems only logical that includes the level 4 spells as well. Orril: When a mod or an admin say something and you think it's wrong (which can happen) it's always a good idea to check first to see if you are right. Also I remember somewere in the Admin question forum Talia said that Max lvl would be 4. but that's another issue. Pikeel's declaration make sense, if you focus more in maths than in Bio, you learn faster maths than bio, IRL that happens, I learn faster chem than maths. What's my magic? My treasure. It's somewhere halfway down the first page, i think.
Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Helcrani fire mage Post by: Vesk Lyricahl on July 11, 2006, 03:48:23 AM Maybe so Mira, but even an admin can be incorrect from time to time. Allow me to direct your gazes to the Restrictions thread. Scroll down and you're notice that levels 4-12 are restricted from play. It seems clear enough to me that level 4 is included. I can only assume that you've displayed some knowledge of magic and are thus being allowed a level 4 mage.
As far as learning beyond your level, I do not possess much knowledge about magic and cannot say myself what is possible and what is not. However, Marvin is one of the resident magic experts and a CD mod, so basically whatever he says regarding magic, goes. Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Helcrani fire mage Post by: Marvin Cerambit on July 11, 2006, 04:30:23 AM Quote: It isn't secret. You can find it on the place it has alwas been. Quote: Yes, but either you have the schooling system that has a set number of subjects for each year (as the Belgian one) or you have one where a student can choose a number of subjects each year. In the first you can learn as fast as you want, you still need to follow the pace the school gives you. In the second you have more choice on how fast you go on each subject, but then you have separate levels for it as well that tell you how far you've gotten with each. We don't have seperate levels for each Spell Class, so we can assume for now that Ximax follows the first system. And I don't know if Talia was wrong. It changed a bit here and there the last few months, but I doubt there will be any problem with keeping your mage level 4. Quote: Actually, what admins say goes. Level distinctions within a sphere are set to prevent those with little training in a certain technique of car'all manipulatiopn from attempting to difficult manipulations. however, there is no techincal difference between what you do when casting Fireblast or Blood Breaker.
Fireblast however requires a lot more effort to cast that Blood Breaker, even though the methods yu use are the same. So, technically it is possible for a level 4 mage to know and be able to cast (big difference!) level 6 spells. Providing of course, the mage masters at Ximax allow their students to study them. Now, this all has nothing to do with my character of course, but since we're having a chat in my cd anyway.. ( terms ring any bells guys?) ![]()
Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Helcrani fire mage Post by: Mina on July 11, 2006, 06:07:23 PM Quote: Not quite. The levels are an indication of not just how much a mage knows, but also how powerful he is. A mage at level 4 might know how to cast a level 6 spell, assuming he is reasonably talented and good with the theory stuff, but he most likely won't have the power to do so. Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Helcrani fire mage Post by: Ta'lia of the Seven Jewels on July 16, 2006, 08:33:23 AM Miraran ‘Mira’ Tehùriden
Gender: Male Age: 32 Race: Human Tribe: Milkengrad Ahai ( Helcrani ) Title: Flame of Helcrah Physical appearance: Standing a good five fores, two span tall, Miraran is a rather regular-looking man. Clothes: Miraran is dressed for travel, and convenience. A double-sided hooded cloak, long enough to cover him fully when standing, protects him against moth instances of ill weather, and while one side is nearly black, one side is of a bright crimson color. This allows him to easilly turn from an common traveler into a flamboyant mage, and back again. A common blouse, usually in some shade of grey, brown, or in case of festivities, yellow is worn on his upper body. A sturdy, black leather belt, containing his money and reagentia pouches as well as his sword around his waist, a pair of leather riding boots of the centoraurian make, and some dark grey or light brown pants complete his wardrobe. Personality: Miraran takes great pride in his heritage. He fiercely tries to uphold the principles of honor and valor, but, as most Helcrani, he is easily distracted by more primal emotions, and quick to anger. He is open and warm to most people, although certain parts of his history are kept secret to all but his closest friends. Strengths: -Magic, Fire level 4. Miraran has focusser his studies greatly.. while his physical representation spells, such as Fireball and Flash are thoroughly practiced, and even the powerful Blazing Shield can be listed with the spells he has mastered, the spiritual spells of Fire are another matter. He will be able to cast most of them, but their effectiveness may be debated, as it takes a lot of effort and concentration to perform even a slightly effective Blood Breaker spell for instance. -Weapons training. Miraran has indeed received the mandatory weapons training every helcrani child between eight and fifteen years of age will receive. Although he is in no way a practiced swordsman, he is able to use a shortsword without harming himself (to much) and his muddled, and often erratic fighting style has been proven to sometimes confuse an opponent enough for him to either run away, or set the offender on fire. -Fast thinking. Having several older brothers around while growing up is without doubt the best way to become a fast thinker. Victim to his brothers pranks and scams for years, Miraran learned to think quick, and act even quicker. -Horsemanship, being the son of a horse breeder, Mira could ride before he could run properly. Even now he is quite a skilled rider, and needs neither saddle not reigns to ride a properly trained horse. Weaknesses: -Prone to acting _to_ fast, and making errors of judgement, as he often does not take the time to pass good judgement on a situation. His preferred way to get out of (and into) trouble runs along the lines of “Ack! Fireball! /runs away/” -Bad eye-hand coordination. Although his magical skills do not seem to be impaired, probably because the gestures used there are merely tools for focussing oneself, Miraran has severe problems in other areas. As a child, it wreaked havoc on his sword practice, forcing him to substitute for a slashing weapon instead of a sword used mostly at the point, and rendering him one of the slowest writers many of his teachers had ever been forced to endure. Catching a thrown ball might as well result in having it hit him in the face, and asking him to toss you something from across the room is only advisable with unbreakable objects, or lightning reflexes on the receiving person. -[Hidden Weakness] Available to Admins on request. As a result, Miraran has a rather strange fighting style with his sword, using a mixture of dagger and shortsword techniques that often confuses an opponent trained in the 'proper' way of fighting. He can fend off an attacker for some time, and maybe even hurt a fairly bad warrior, but in the long run, his lack of regular practice over the last fifteen years, combined with his bad coordination, has made him not quite the combatant he would have been expected to be as a Helcran who would have remained in Milkengrad and completed his warriors training. The next fourteen years went on in a remarkably peaceful way. Oh well, do you really think this incident would send you away? I doubt, that the school would send you away, you are paying for it! Maybe you did something more severly and were asjemed to stay? Say something, how far you have proceeded in your studies, you are now in your fifth year, right? Miraran then, traveled northward, to the Efirhal island and his family in Milkengrad. His stay was short however, as he was restless, and felt useless as he watched his father and brothers manage the breeding farm, and soon decided to leave home again, this time towards the Villages, specifically Ahaiwana, where still some distant relatives of his family can be found. He was planning on continuing westward after a few days, in order to reach Jernais before the mid-summer feasts would be held. However, his plans were cut short by accident, as, upon descending the northwestern slopes a small, furry creature, probably a Stone ferret, burst from its hiding place just under Graystar's hoof. The startled horse reared, and Miraran, to his never ending shame, was caught unaware and fell off, crashing into the thicket, and delivering a well-aimed blow to a rock with his head. And all the world went black. He awakened in a cave, lit only by a few smoldering embers in a clay dish, and the few rays of light passing past the frayed edges of a large piece of old cloth, concealing what would most likely be the exit. He slowly got up, carefully touching the bandage wrapped around his head, and winced. The wound was obviously still rather fresh. Slightly dizzy, he made it towards the exit of the cramped, square-ped cave, and moved the curtain. Before him was a large cave, lit by three fairly large fires, and several dozen of people, mostly clad in old, torn clothes. For a moment, Miraran looked in amazement. He almost jumped, and made his head spin when a soft voice spoke from the right, and an elderly man smiled at him gently. "You have awakened. Good, yes, very good. You must wonder where you are now child... so i would welcome you to our rocky home comma child of Helcrah. Do not fear. You will find peace among the Grey." In the end, Miraran never reached Jernais. He returned to Ahaiwana briefly almost three years after leaving, and left money to send a message to his parents, ensuring them their son was safe and in good health. He somehow managed to travel all the way to Bardavos, earning his living by means of his magic mostly, However, upon arriving in the City of Art he spend only one day there, before he left, heading southwards, without plans. Only time will tell what happens now, and where his story leads. For now, this will be enough. -Miraran tehuriden, 5th Burning Heavens, 1665- Familiars; The Rats Thief – Ximaxian Rat, Female, completely grey. Personality; The sneakiest of the three, this female rat often has an own agenda. Known to secretly take whatever she takes a liking to, be it food, valuables, or just random things that interest her. Often these things belong to miraran, who then finds them, or the crumbs left of them, in a deep corner of his backpack. Gnaw – Ximaxian Rat, Male, black with grey and brown patches. Personality; Gnaw is the big guy on the block. He is dominant to the females, and often tries the very same with Miraran. With a tendency to get really moody when he doesn't get what he wants, Gnaw can be childish at times, and often rather sulks about something forbidden to him than trying to improve his situation. Squeak – Ximaxian Rat, Female, brown with grey patches. Personality; Squeak is probably the most social of the Rats. She enjoys attention, and often spends long periods somewhere on Mirarans shoulder, 'talking' to him in their own tongue, often making entire conversations with her giant friend. She is a curious animal, and prone to getting into trouble as her curiosity leads her into sticky situations. (Most memorable of these being a four span high jug of honey, which proved a bit to tall for her to get out of again.) Graystar – Horse, Centoraurian breed. Preferred spells; - Flame Control - Rise Flame - Sparkling Stream - Searing - Light - Fireball - Flash - Blazing Shield As evident, Miraran prefers to set things aflame. Reading the above comments, I'm not sure if you've been allowed to play a level 4 mage. In any case, that isn't the main issue I have with your magic. As I said before, you should not be able to cast spells of a higher level, whether it is of the same Sphere or not. Certain exceptions can be made if the spell is of the next level, and you're close to achieving that level. Blazing Shield, though, is two levels above you. If it's of the same Sphere, and you're pretty talented, you might know how to cast the spell, but you still won't be powerful enough to. This limitation can be overcome, as you pointed out, by having several other magi, who also know how to perform the spell, assist you (actually, I'm not entirely sure, since the Joining of Wills stuff is old, but it appears sound). However, since you are not able to perform the spell alone, I don't think you can be said to have mastered the spell. Gender: Male Age: 32 Race: Human Tribe: Ter'ei'Vikh Tehuriden Title: Greenkeeper Physical appearance: Standing at about nineteen palmspan, Miraran is fairly long for a Ter'ei'Vikh, an impression further reiïnforced by the somewhat androgynous facial features and slender build that mark this tribe. The comparison end here though, for where the "Vikh are dark skinned with bright white hair, Mira is quite the opposite, displaying the pale skin and n'orsidian black of some of his most distant Lillivear ancestors. His eyes are dark green, which is emphathised emphasised by the grey lines that appear to radiate from his pupils, giving a cheerfull, lighthearted effect, which suits him just fine. He moves in an elegant, but sadly imbalanced way, as he tends to start walking, get distracted, get distracted again, fail to notice the root sticking up.. well, you get the idea. This is partially explained from living within the trees of the Drifitng Woods of Nybelmar for fifteen years, but it would most certainly help if he'd keep his mind and his feet together a bit better. Clothes: Often, Miraran wears nothing more than a simple turei from Faen-bought fabrics. You are talking to mostly Santharians here, not many of us come from Nybelmar and even less from the Drifting woods. Perhaps you might give a little description of what a turei is? Currently, no Tehuriden posesses exceptional weaving skills, and the slightly more open-minded outcasts have happily adopted the outlandish fabrics the merchants bring in. Miraran favours grown, green and yellow cloths, and is rarely seen in some of the more fancyful reds and purples, prefering to limit himself to "Wood Colors", as he calls them. An added benefit is of course, that the dirt marks that come with his botanical studies are easilly concealed on these colors. For more official matters, he will wear long, concealing hooded cloaks, that cover all but his head. (As long as he is not using the hood, of course.) He sticks to monocolored fabrics for these garments, (but can be expected to just wear the turei inderneath anyway!) and if at all possible, black ones at that. He has always liked traveling, but avoids mountainous regions as much as possible, prefering open fields and forested areas. Strengths: -Spirit Song magic. A magic posessed by all Ter'ei'Vikh, Miraran may use his ability to communicate with the spirits to shape and direct living things so a small degree. Because he is not one of the true "Vikh, he cannot join others in song to enhance his powers. Its effects are limited to chasing off animals, making a flower bloom, and somehwat enhancing the natural healing processes of a wounded individual. More usefull are its spiritual possibilities, by means of which he can acces the spirit world to commune with the powerfull spirits of certain places, detect lifeforms, and receive guidance from his ancestors. -Distant contacts. A result of his employment at the Enkyclopedia Nybelmarnica, Miraran knows people all over the world. Would he need to travel far, he can usually rely on these contacts for information and help. -Ecological knowledge. His studies are focussed on the ways of nature, and have taught him much about the way an ecosystem functions. He can put this to his advantage in many ways when out in the wild, as he can 'read nature's scrolls', and more often than not deduct if a plant is edible, how a disease should be treated, and which way certain animals or plants might be found. -Dark Councillors. While in Nybelmar, especially the north-western regions, the myths of the Dark Councillors help protect him from unwanted attention. Always ready to believe in someone's good intentions, and able to forgive nearly everything done to him, this aspect of Miraran's may eventually leed him into deep, deep trouble. Although the Tehuriden have to shrug the Ter'ei'Vikh way of constant distrust to all outsiders in order to survive, Miraran is still a bit squeemish about getting more than superficially involved with groups of non-"Vikh people, especially when away from home. Weapons: None in posession, but he has had some training in the use of the typical ranged hunting tools used by the Ter'ei'Vikh, mainly the Matan and the thrown short spear. It is not reccomended to count on his aim when under pressure, or to stand anywhere than directly behind him. Fortunately, he prefers fishing. If he can fight with it, it's considered a strength (even if he doesn't have one in his possession at the moment) History: Miraran was born on the 24th Molten Ice of 1635 A.S. He of course knew now what it meanth, and what would happen that day. Like most of his kind, he prepared himself, traveling to the Gates of M'aghin just before his sixteenth birthday. There he waited untill the moon rose, and, without family or friends to see him off, left his tribe to become Tehuriden, impure, outcasted. The village just within the forest's reach on the banks of the Metherinin was forewarned of his arrival, and accepted him without further ado. As such he was given shelter and food untill he built his own home, and learned the speech of the Faen and Morchini traders that relied on the outcasts for translation and mediation in their transactions. As it turned out, the poor man wanted to be grantes acces to the deep woods, to gather data for something he called an "Enkyclopedia". It barely needs saying that the most ridiculous request was denied instantly, despite his most valient efforts to convince anyone otherwise. Five years later, Miraran is an esteemed member of the scolarly organisation of the Enkyclopedia Nybelmarnica, and heads a small research facility near the Drifting Woods that gathers data on the Kaerath region. However, a recent message from the Enkyclopedia Hall at Hostar. You forgot the verb in the previous sentence ;) Immediately after receiving it, he packed his bags and left with the first southbound Faen caravan that passed by. Familiars; Mira has a Cedi Apecat he received from his friend and colleague Decipher Ziron on a visit to the southern plains of Zhun. It was his first encouter with a cat-like animal, and he was immediately sold. 'Zirry', named after Decipher, seemed equally enamoured with the Ter'ei'Vikh, and traveled back north with him. It is now the communal favourite, and the playmate of the youngest Tehuriden, often to be found on the lap of one of the nexest arrivals. I'll get to this before Garret pounces... We generally ask for a little description of what the familiar looks like and how it behaves, kind of like a mini-cd. Also, if relevant, how it was trained. If there's more needed, I'm sure Garret will be along shortly to point it out :P So! Not many comments, though of course if there's any expert on the "Vikh, it's you. Just one small thing, sometimes you shorten the tribe to "Vikh, and sometimes to 'Vikh. Are both acceptable or is only one out of two the official spelling? Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Ter'ei'Vikh scholar. Post by: Miraran Tehuriden on April 05, 2009, 05:51:59 AM Officially, it's ''Vikh, but if im fast-typing, i might accidentally miss one of the ' strokes :P
This is far, far less than i expected Sim, i'll have it done relatively soon :) Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Ter'ei'Vikh scholar. Post by: Roosje Greenfields on April 05, 2009, 04:16:15 PM Yeah, like I said... Either 'my worst' isn't very bad, or this is just a well-written CD. I'm voting for the second option.
I just realised that new people might get relatively confused by the three last posts... I post as Irid, you call me Sim, and I reply as Roosje :P Oh, and about the "Vikh thing... couldn't you just use the double quotation marks? Then you need only press one button... Well, I do, because I have a belgian keyboard :P Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Ter'ei'Vikh scholar. Post by: Miraran Tehuriden on April 05, 2009, 10:38:43 PM Yeah, like I said... It's force of habit, mainly, but officially, since its a contraction where the ' did not get eliminated, they should be done with two separate '-s. Does that help, Judit? :P (And yes, i just ran out of names) Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Ter'ei'Vikh scholar. Post by: Miraran Tehuriden on April 06, 2009, 02:00:48 AM Edits in place.

I do love this part: Quote A life that would take an interesting turn when a charismatic man came with the Faen, and with a thick accent introduced himself as Coren Frozenzephyr of Anis-Anpagan, claiming to need a translator to speak with the Ter'ei'Vikh at the Gates. As it turned out, the poor man wanted to be granted access to the deep woods, to gather data for something he called an "Enkyclopedia". Post by: Mannix on April 10, 2009, 06:27:28 PM Here's a little check for you, Mira. I'll try my best, but since I dont know too much about Nybelmar that may not be too good. But, I trust all Nybelmarian stuff will be fine anyway.
Miraran Mira Tehùriden Gender: Male Age: 32 Race: Human Tribe: Ter'ei'Vikh Tehùriden (Im not really sure, but should this be separated into tribe and clan? Are the Tehùriden considered a different tribe?) Title: Greenkeeper Physical appearance: Standing at about nineteen palmspans, Miraran is fairly long for a Ter'ei'Vikh, an impression further reinforced by the somewhat androgynous facial features and slender build that mark this tribe. The comparison end here though, for where the "Vikh are dark skinned with bright white hair, Mira is quite the opposite, displaying the pale skin and norsidian black of some of his most distant Lillivear ancestors. His eyes are dark green, which is emphasised by the grey lines that appear to radiate from his pupils, giving a cheerful, lighthearted effect, which suits him just fine. He moves in an elegant, but sadly imbalanced way, as he tends to start walking, get distracted, get distracted again, fail to notice the root sticking up well, you get the idea. More useful are its spiritual possibilities, by means of which he can access the spirit world to commune with the powerful spirits of certain places, detect lifeforms, (delete 2nd space) and receive guidance from his ancestors. This does not apply to the lower animals, such as insects and other invertebrates, although he will always try to kill nothing he will not eat (This sounds a bit jumbled. Maybe try: although he will always try not to kill something he will not eat. Or if you could rearrange it better be my guest.), and may at times go for weeks without eating anything animal in nature. (Skill with a weapon is a strength, even if he doesnt own one or isnt very good with it. He has still had some training, which is more than the average man. Id suggest moving this up to his strength section, as it is more a description of his skill than of an actual weapon. If he doesnt have a weapon you can remove this section.) History: Miraran was born on the 24th Molten Ice of 1635 A.S. There he waited until the moon rose, and, without family or friends to see him off, left his tribe to become Tehùriden, impure, outcast(The past tense of cast is cast as well.). It was his first encounter with a catlike animal, and he was immediately sold. It is the inborn curiosity of the Cedi that keeps her with Miraran, but it also might be that curiosity that will compel her to go her own way once again at some point in the future. Nothing too bad from me, Mira. As well as what I mentioned, there is one other thing. I think we would all greatly appreciate a magic section explaining this Spirit Song magic. I'm going to change your posticon back to the pencil while you do your edits, so remember to change it back. And don't forget to colour your changes either. Good luck. :) Mannix Title: Re: Miraran Tehuriden, Ter'ei'Vikh scholar. You DO realise that you just forced me to actually start creating limits and fundamental concepts for the SPirit Song, right? :P And they say we don't dev for the sake of the PRG side....
