Title: Info needed
Post by: Landion Ohta'Raumo on July 19, 2012, 05:49:22 AM
Where can I find me information about the war between the Royalists and Helcrah over Xaramon? I can't seem to find much on either party.

Also, and this might be explained to me after I do some research, which side would a Quaelhoirhim elf likely side with?

I'm not sure about your elf question. But you may be able to find out a little more on those people if you do a little digging on the Development side. You can reach it here.

 Dev Board. (http://www.santharia.com/dev/index.php)

oops, where did you find that info 'Royalists and Helcrah over Xaramon' in the first place? Which century?

Roy, somebody who poses such a question has surely found the Dev-board already, no? Or is there a story playing at 'this' time?

I found some information on the war in the "Discussion Age of Rebuilding" topic in the dev forums.

I still can't determine for sure which side a Quaelhoirhim elf would be on but I would imagine the side of the Helcrah, Centoraurians and South Vardynn.

If someone can confirm this for me it would be very appreciated.

Why the curiosity over such an old and obscure piece of history?

Likely, elves wouldn't take a side at all. Elves are not humans and do not side in a human war unless it threatens their home directly.

A portion of my characters money is going to come from being a mercenary and I wanted the war to be his first experience in battle.

I'm afraid elves do not become mercenaries, soldiers or battle hardened thugs.

Elven culture is not like that. Elves do not care for money, material possessions, glory and honor like a human would. Elves are long lived, and the world philosophy to them is more akin to "passing through" to exist in another state in the Dream.

If you wish to ground your elf in a more human-like culture and outlook, I suggest making a half-elf with bonds closer to his human relatives. Even then, you would need a convincing history of how an elf came to mate with a human because such instances are rare.

There was a Quaelhoirhim character approve fairly recently that was a mercenary which is why I thought it would be an appropriate occupation.

But I do want to be true to my race so I will alter my original ideas.

The unfortunate truth is that mods have different opinions on what is passable. The team is rarely consistent, and you will see the standards go various ways. My thoughts on an appropriate elf would be different than Rookie, Irid or Tak. I happen to judge CDs based on the tribe and race and encourage CDs to adhere as close as possible to it. If you're an elf, your CD reflects that. If you're a human Centoraurian, then reflect that. The tribes and races are different for a reason, and not just a name to slap on a CD.

I would like to point you to the dev forums where Rayne has written detailed entries about elves and their culture:

Elven occupations (http://www.santharia.com/dev/index.php/topic,14179.msg177570.html#msg177570)

I do take back my statement that elves cannot be mercenaries. In fact, dark elves do not share the typical elven philosophy of peace and often sell themselves to the highest bidder.

There are other elven posts in the Races forum by Rayne as well that should interest you. She is the foremost expert on elves on the site.
