I am (now) unsure as to whether Avaera will go by the nickname Ava, given its resemblance to the name of the goddess Avá. I need to know a few things to decide for certain.

My first question: given that Avá is an elven goddess (or so I gathered from my reading), what role does she play in the life of common humans?

My second question: I'm embarassed to admit that I don't know how Avá is pronounced. Could someone explain?

Thank you in advance! :)

The stress is on the second syllable, as the accent suggests. And the pronunciation more like German or Latin, which is not really important as long as you are just communicating online .
Humans don‘t know much about Avá, if at all, except in Milkengrad. I don‘t know, if the elves would call their kids after their highest goddess, in Greece there are a lot of men called „Jesus“, so I really don‘t know.
Avaera is not this long, that you can‘t use the whole name. Btw, how do you pronounce it? Av-ae-ra or Ava-era? Then an accent on the e might be helpful.

You might be scolded by some elves being named as such. Despite the example of people being named Jesus (except, correct me if I'm wrong, it's strictly pronounced with a soft J?) I think most elves given their religious nature would almost consider if blasphemey.

This would definitely add some interesting in-play depth to your character, but I suppose that's up to you :biggrin

Thank you Talia and Luca. Your replies gave me the little push that I needed to make my decision. There won't be any silly, deity-named girls running around Santharia afterall ;)

@Talia: When I say the name in my head, I pronounce it 'Ava-era'. In that case, you think that I should spell her name Avaéra?
