Before Brakken could dust herself off, before she could make sure the child was ok, she looked up and saw a crossbow aimed at her from not so far away. Standing stupidly, her mouth hanging open, her mind was able to form one word: "but..."

Suddenly she was out of harms way, but not by her own action. What had just happened? Where was she? What was she doing here anyway? Was she dead? And then a voice, a female voice.

"Are you ok?"

Brakken tried to look up into the face of her rescuer and could hardly make her eyes focus. She was overwhelmed and scared, causing her body to start shutting down. Her eyelids were heavy, and playing dead seemed like a good idea. But she forced her vision to clear. The woman  was not much older than Brakken herself, and Brakken realized that she was looking upon someone with her same heritage.

She trembled as she stood up, helping the girl to stand as well. "I... that is, milady, I seem to be alright... are you alright?" she asked, bending down to the little girl. She nodded her head but would not speak. Brakken looked up again at the woman. Then she realized that the red headed elf maid was approaching them. She blinked, suddenly her mind was void of everything except the sight of the crossbow aimed right at her, and her hands began to tremble, but she stayed standing, and clenched her jaw.

Kim turned to where Brakken was looking to the elf. She sensed Brakken was scared. Turning to look Brakken straight in the eye;
"Dont be scared. Ill protect any of my kind."

Minsyth just stood and watched the man charge him with his sword raised. Silly humans...With a quick clean sweep, he knocked the man in the stomach with the side of his blade, bringing the charging man to his knees.

"My dear sir...what are you trying to accomplish?" Minsyth mocked the man on the ground, a smalll smile spreading across his features. "Your simple stupidity is getting you no where here."

The man glared at him then spat at Minsyth's feet. "Elves...you think you people run this place!" Minsyth just shook his head in disgust then raised his hilt, the knocking the man unconscious. Humans...always out to cause trouble it seems. A sigh escaped his lips as he turned back to the rest of the group, joining the women and the child."Is everyone alright?" He his silver eyes studying Pally to see if she was alright before turning his attention elsewhere. Urse seemed to still be having fun behind him.

"Don't be scared. I'll protect any of my kind."

Brakken smiled feebly and nodded. This woman was powerful. Brakken could feel something, an aura, that surrounded her. She wondered to herself, since she had had little exposure to the world of magic.

A male elf who had been a part of the skirmish came over to them and asked if everyone was alright. Brakken nodded again, slowly, more to convince herself that she was ok than for any other reason.

She hoped that someone would explain at least in part what had just happened, but she sure wasn't going to ask about it. Without even thinking about it, she put a hand on the shoulder of the small girl. Just because this group had attacked the clan of men, didn't mean that they were "on her side"

Seeing that the girl was still scared. Kim placed a hand on Brakkens shoulder.
"Don't worry" Kim wispered.
Turning to the male elf;
"Hello. My names Kim Sandrage. Is everyone okay?"

Shan ran towards the child and woman to push them out of the way of the crossbow. I won't get a reward if that kid is dead! he thought desperatly. But just as he was about to become a hero, the two seemed to vanish. Confused, Shanvorin would have stopped but the shingar felt a stinging pain in his right fore paw.

He let out a moan of pain and looked down at a crossbow bolt in his leg. Whimpering, Shan limped over to the collecting group where two new faces accompanied the child. The shingar sat down on his hind quarters and began licking the slow trickle of blood around the crossbow arrow. I try to save her life, and look what happens! What a waste of time

Fredrick sighed. He was tired out and there was nowhere around here.
He looked at his horse. She looked tired out.
"Don't worry Hun, there must be a village somewhere around her"
Just as he spoke her heard voices. Quickening his pace he neared the voices. As he walked nearer he saw a group of people.
"Hello" he shouted.

When what you believe is a silly old man sitting down to tell you his tale it would be best to listen for you may learn something about yourself in his story.

The former crossbowman did not appear to want to be a former man and so kept running.  Urse stopped, collecting his breath and watched for a few moments to make sure the bandit did not try to skulk back.

Satisfied, he trotted back to the main group.  He stopped only to pick up the crossbow.  It would fetch a few coin for the survivors, scant compensation, but better than nothing.

He returned back and was satisfied that all he could see standing were in fact alive.  Querprur will have to wait, he thought with a smile.  Only the cat seemed injured and he was no animal doctor.

He saw a new horseman approaching.  By the white lady of his youth, he thought, I have seen quieter markets!

Pally looked around the group, noticing new faces. Ignoring them, her eyes drifted down towards the child. "You. Who are you? Where is your family?" she demanded, more than asked. Paladia had never had much contact with children, and until recently, never directly with a human.

The child wiped her eyes, and in the process managed to smear her runny nose across her cheek. "My d-daddy. He...they...left without me. I'm Nyari. Where's my daddy?" she replied haltingly, casting fearful glances around the group at all the adults, and her gaze constantly returning to the shingar. But unlike her looks to the group, when Nyari glanced at Shan she seemed to calm.

Pally could only sigh. She couldn't help this child. Why couldn't humans just learn to take care of themselves?

Kareesh sighed as she walked out of the foliage. Even though the situation seemed to be under control, her hand stayed to the hilt of the dagger that she wore at her side. Slowly she walked towards the little group. When she was just a few feet from them, she stopped and just observed. The large cat seemed to be injured. The group seemed to be crowed around a woman and a young child.

"That must be the child whose cries I heard in the woods," she thought as her green eyes scanned the rest of the group. They all seemed to be having their own conversations. Everything seemed to a small mass chaos.

Suddenly there were twice as many people surrounding Brakken, and none of them seemed to know eachother. In fact, she could see at least one more person approaching them on horseback.

If I were being attacked by bandits, I would be lucky to have one person come to my rescue, but if this child always attracts such aid, she could master legions, she thought.

She took her hand off of Nyari's shoulder when the girl looked up at her with a scared look on her face. Apparently strangers were not her favorite. So Brakken let her hands fall to her sides, and fiddled with the cloth of her dress. Quietly, she examined the group around her. All ages, races, and genders seemed to be represented. This was going to be interesting. Listening carefully, so as not to miss a thing, she decided not to speak until she was addressed specifically.

Standing off to the side, watching the group intently. They all seemed to be worried about the child but other than that she was terrified, she seemed fine. His sword was resheathed and his hood replaced over his features, hiding him once again in the depths of the shadows of his cloak, his arms folded over his chest.

His eyes scanned the area about the group, keeping a sharp eye out for anything unusual. After a few moments, his eyes fell upon a lone figure on the edge of the forest. A frown spread across his features, his hand never leaving his hilt. Slowly, he made his way over to the lone figure noticing that it's hood was down, revealing their features. Long black hair and emerald green eyes shone as he approached. The figure was slight yet strong. "M'Lady!" He bowed his head, "May I help you?"

He glanced over his shoulder quickly at the group, seeing that yet another had seemingly come upon them...We lost some and yet we continue to gain. He turned back to face the lady before him, holding out his hand to her. "Come..."

Paladia had had enough of this. This child, this human child, was obviously too stupid to want help. Nyari, looked around the group once more, and then halted her gaze to stare directly at the shingar. Shan cocked his head to the side as she approached him and placed a small hand upon his huge wounded leg. "It's okay, big cat, it's only small."

The child, with sudden confidence around the strangers, stood and turned to the group. "My name is Nyari. My daddy was taking me to Nepris to see Uncle Dimitri. We were riding with some trading men. But....the bad men came and scared the horses. Now...n-now I'm alone."

The little girl, despite her bravery to speak to the group of strangers, began crying. "I saw them ride off, running away from the bad men. They left me here with the rest."

Not caring about the child's obvious distress, Paladia looked around, "Wait. There are more bandits? That mean's they'll be coming back. I have no desire to waste anymore time with those idiots." The red-haired elf looked down at Nyari, "Listen child. Where is Nepris?"

She sniffed and pointed in the general direction of the Mithril Mountains, "The rocks by the sea. Please don't leave me.."

Kareesh started at seeing a man come towards her. He was tall but other then that, she didn't know what he looked like for he kept his hood down.

"Come..." he said and held out his hand to her. With one glance, Kareesh saw that his hand was covered in several scars. Previous fights, she guessed.

She held out her own scarred hand and took his. "Fights cause terrible scars. Some physical, yet many mentally," she said quietly as he lead her to the rest of the group. Her other hand remain on her dagger.

Gently a smile tugged at the corner's of his mouth as she took the hand he had held out to her. "There is nothing to fear. Your hand does not need to remain on your dagger M'Lady." He spoke softly as not to startle her. "And yes they do...fights are horrible things but your heart does harden with the more you partake in." He knew she had seen his hands and he had seen hers. Mostly likely received in different ways but the blade never shows any mercy.

He led her to the group but left her for but a moment to go and address Paladia. He found her talking to the frightened little girl about the direction they needed to travel. "M'Lady, I have found yet another that has wandered to our assembly." He whispered softly in Pally's ear, motioning over to Kareesh. "What should I do with her?" His hand absently came to rest on the hilt of his sword, waiting for Pally's reply.
