"What should I do with her?"

Paladia sighed and cast her cold stare over to the newest person. The elf then let her gaze drift over the rest of the grouping, of so many different kinds of people. But she didn't have time for this. Paladia wouldn't even be here with these people if the Midnight Cat hadn't been so eager in helping the child. And even then, now look at him, with his injured leg. "Leave her," the Tethinrhim said plainly, "Unless she wishes to come with us. We owe nothing to these people."

Looking once more at Nyari, Paladia noticed how the little girl had calmed considerably as she gently, no longer gingerly, stroked the raven fur of the wild cat.

"You," Pally started, bringing the girl's eyes up from Shan, "we cannot take you to Nepris. A child would...slow us down."

Nyari's face dropped and she simply said, "Oh..."

Turning her chin up proudly, Paladia turned to adress the rest of the gathering, "Me and the cat leave now for the mountains. The rest of you, do what you wish as I have no need of you."

Shan had to agree with Pally on her point. Dragging a whining, crying, annoying child along beside them would surely slow them. The big cat nudged her in the side with his big head and then began to stand. The pain in his paw had subsided considerably and Shan was confident he could walk well.

Nyari raised her small head to gaze longingly up at the sky. "Daddy will come back. His caravan will fight off those men with swords and dogs," she said, resting a hand on Shanvorin's side. The shingar turned slowly and could sense the hope in the child's heart. Swords and dogs? he thought with doubt. The poor kid. Bandit's around here are ruthless and.....

Shaking off the thought, Shanvorin walked slowly behind the eager to leave Paladia.

Kareesh gritted her teeth, grinding them slightly. The Elf could not have known her past, nor guess it. She shook with a silent rage at the other Elf as she felt her just push off the other people other then the dark cat.

"Who does she think she is, pushing people aside as if they were old rags," Kareesh thought. A slight went through her as she realized that, in her own past she had done such a thing.

She turned to the male Elf that had brought her to the group.

"Now what? It seems that your *friend* has abondaned you," she said softly yet powerfully. She sifted her weight from one foot to the other awaiting his answer

A sigh escaped his lips as he turned once again to face the woman that he had come upon. Pally was obviously unhappy with the incident with the child and allowed it to possible cloud her judgement. "My friend has not abandoned me, my dear lady, but you. You may come with me if you wish. I am but with her to find my way home, since I have no knowledge of where I am."

His eyes fell upon the little girl petting the cat. It seemed so precious. A smile crept across his hardened features. They couldn't leave the little one behind, he wouldn't allow it. "Are we taking the little girl?" His voice was once again heard in Pally's ear.

"Are we taking the little girl?"

Paladia stopped and turned, her cold gaze drifting from Minsyth to the child and back. He wants to bring her? He is an elf, I can be sure of that much, but he shows sympathy to these humans. What such tribe would allow this? she thought.

Paladia, far from the mood of argument, waved a dismissive hand towards him. "Do as you wish, Minsyth. But she is in your care. If the child lags behind...that is no trouble of mine," the elf snapped, turning once again to leave, "And I'll feed you both to the cat if your presence slows us down" she muttered over her shoulder, a joking tone in her voice not as evident as it should be.

"Are we taking the little girl?"

Urse pricked up his ears, he had thought it was obvious.  It worried and annoyed him that the question was being asked.

"No we leave her here.  Then we can place wagers on what gets her first, wolf, bear or snake.  Then one of us will be rich!  Of course we are taking her.  She shall be in my charge.  If we cannot find a home for her, then she can join my orphans, and have a big family back there."

He walked over to the young girl and ruffled her head gently before picking her up and placing her on his shoulder.  He glared at the elves as if daring them to disagree.

Kim looked at the group.
"I am with Urse a child so young should not be left on her own"
As kim looked at the child she felt her memories stir. She remembered feeling so alone and helpless. No one talking to her. No one loving her. Shaking her head she pushed the feelings away and covered herself in the cold heart she had created within.
"Sadly you elf have no feelings obvoiusly. Would you leave your own kind out in the wildness to be killed?"

Welcome to shadow world far under northern skies
Mountains and raging seas, valleys and icy winds Glory and majesty, triumph and victory
Legends and epic tales born between these dark lakes
For you a new one written with black blood

His head snapped in the direction of the two humans, annoyance filling his stance and features. "I am sorry if my intentions were not clear but I had no thought of leaving the girl behind. I had full intentions of taking her with us under my care if no one offered."

Eyes watching the two closely then falling to the little girl, a smile spreading across his features as he remembered when his sister was just as young and helpless.

Kareesh gave an inward sigh. She had no desire to go back to her home. If anything could be helped about it, she wouldn't want to remember what had happened to her there.

"I shall come along, but only because I have nothing else to do," Kareesh said flatly. She pulled the dark green hood over her head, hiding her features within the darkness of the shadows. "If we are going to head on this little journey, then let us start. If we linger here much longer, then we will draw the people of whom you speak, and we will be fighting not only to save our lives but also the life of this little girl."

She set her hand on her dagger hilt waiting for others to make responses.

"She'll be safe with me!" said Urse firmly, thrusting out his staff with his free hand.

"Anyway, we should go.  We don't know if every bandit in that rabble went for them.  The ones that got away could be bringing others while we waste time.  Which way are we going?"

Paladia turned to glare at the others. "I don't care who is taking the child! We head for the Mithril Mountains, as I already said," she snapped, on the verge of insanity. These humans...always bickering and arguing.

Forcing herself to calm, Paladia continued with her usual stoic demeanor. "You may come with us, and I shall have no objections. But I will not slow down my own pace if any of you manage to slow us down," she said with finality. A few of the party members seemed hesitant, but with few other options, they decided it best to not be around when the rest of the bandits returned.

The Tethinrhim turned on her heels, Shan by her side, and began walking to the north east; to the mountains.

Brakken looked from the child to the rest of the party. They seem in capable hands she thought hesitantly. The woman didn't really like leaving the little girl behind, but Brakken really needed to return to her caravan.

"I...that is, I really should be going," the woman said. Nyari seemed reluctant to see Brakken go, but the child felt she could trust the cat and his friends to keep her safe.

"Goodbye," Nyari said cheerfully, then turned to go after Shan and the elf woman.

"Goodbye," Brakken said with a half-hearted wave, and then went on her way.

The rest of the party seemed to have no other choice, now that the shingar and his elven companion were already walking off with her girl in tow. And so left the party, to officially begin the long trek to the mountains, which cast a faint outline upon the very distant horizon on the clear early summer afternoon.

Shan looked back at the group, then forward at their target. And so it has begun he thought absently to himself.

~~~~
From the bend above, a tall thin figure watched the party leave. It's traveling cloak rustled in the faint summer breeze before the lithe person ducked away, back towards the forest.
It was not long until two more returned with the first. They shared a short conversation and then began a leisurely persuit, certain to keep well out of sight of the cat's group.
