Tynian

Tynian lead both orc and child to the gate. At the door, he turned and dismissed the acompanying guards. "Back to your posts," he said. As one, the guards sheathed their weapons and saluted Tynian. "Yes sir," the response came. As the guards dispersed, Tynian opened the door. "Come in," Tynian said. A few more steps into the dark corridor, Tynian opened another, smaller door. "In here," Tynian ordered, before entering the room.

The room was much more welcoming and warm, as there was a cheerful fire crackling in the stone fireplace. Taking a seat behind the only desk in the room, Tynian waited for the orc to come in.

Grial silentily followed the guards , watching carefully knowing how violent they could become in a presence of an orc and with Lyra in his arms he wouldn´t take a chance of hurting her , even if it means crushing some fool humans head ...

Fortunelly the walk or "escort " to better say it , went smothly going towards the gate , where the guards captain dismissed the rest of the escort and breathing with ease Grial continued to follow him in a corridor where he stoped , entering the small door Grial found himself in small room and watched attentively the guard seating a chair , looking around Grial then asked " Well then , may i ask why was i brought here ?"

Tynian

"Sure, Orc. Firstly, I need your name, your weapons, and your intent in Voldar," Tynian said. Standing up, he walked around the table and to the fireplace. He put the kettle on to boil, and took an apple from the fruit bowl on the small end table. "Mayhaps you or the delightful child wish for some refreshment? We have tea," Tynian asked in a friendly tone. He threw the apple into the air, as was his habit, before biting into its crunchy flesh.

Tea ? Grial taught as he looked at the guards with a flare of amusement on his red eye , with a small smille he said " No thank you i am fine .. " and resting gently his hand on Lyra head , asked " And you Lyra ?" , raising her big blue eyes , he asked the guard with a sweet smile " Maybe an apple as well sir  " seeing how tastefull they seemed .

As Lyra waited for the requested apple , Grial decided to gave the information the guards wanted " My name is Grial and this ... , he then put his huge mace on the table hearing it tremble due to her mace " Is my only weapon . I believe the reason for being here  its already known to you ."

Tynian

Tynian gave Grial a nod as he politely declined his offer of tea. The lass, however, peered at Tynian from behind blond bangs, and sweetly asked for an apple with the most adorable face Tynian had seen in a long time. Tynian's smile grew. He always had a soft spot for young kids. Perhaps it comes from having 7 younger siblings, and me being the oldest, he mused.

He picked up another red apple, and presented it to Lyra. "Here. A beautiful apple for a beautiful girl," he said softly, a genuine smile on his face. The table he was leaning on started to shake slightly, as if there was a miniature earthquake. Tynian looked up and blinked. That mace is huge, he thought, slightly awed that the orc could carry something so heavy.

Putting the thought of the orc's strength out of his mind, he pulled a piece of parchment towards him and penned down Grial's details as he listed them. After he was done, he waved the parchment around a few times to quicken the rate of ink drying before handing it to Grial. "Your papers, Grial," he said as he handed it to Grial. "If I may suggest something. You say that you're looking for Lyra's mother. I recommend going to Arth's Spot, a fine inn in Cedric's Street. Most people go there after work, and maybe someone there knows of Selene. It is also a very confortable place to stay the night. I'm sure Thai, the owner, can give Lyra a small cot for her own, should she wish."

Tynian gave Grial a grin, now completely at ease with the hulking figure. He reached out and gave Lyra's head a pat. "I hope you find your mother, Lyra. Truly," he said softly.

Grial smilled as Lyra started to much down the apple , and turning to the guard he said with a somewhat soft voice ( as soft as an orc voice can be that is ..) , " Thank you for the directions and for the apple , i did not expect to find kindness in this town but you have proven me wrong , perhaps this old orc has something to learn yet ..." , waving his hand in a farewell Grial took Lyra left hand and walked to the inn the guard mentioned .

Azhira followed the small group of travelers towards the city gates. As the city walls loomed before her, she took note of the many guards and patrols and made a mental note that this city was likely a well protected city and such things as crime was harshly punished. Azhira was sure to remind herself to stay on her best behavior.

Azhira waited patiently as the guard inspected the bags, knapsacks and various belongings of the travelers. They were mostly human. A few elves mingled here and there grouped by themselves. A single gnome bedecked in fine robes with a brilliant silver broach attached to his chest stood near a guard impatiently tapping his foot. The gnome grunted in annoyance as the guard carefully picked his way around inside the gnome's sack.

"Hurry this up," whined the gnome. "I have business in the city and I am late!"

The guard shook his head. "You must pass inspection before entering," the guard replied without looking up. "Rules is rules."

"Be damned with rules," the gnome stomped his foot. Suddenly, his hand shot out and grabbed his bag. "Not that pocket. It contains my personal effects. Nothing of import."

The guard reached over and slapped the gnome's hand away. "Cease at once! You will take care not to interfere with my duties."

The gnome hissed angrily and looked away. Azhira, hearing the exchange, moved over quietly and stood by the gnome.

"Something wrong?" she asked.

"Wrong!?" fumed the gnome. "These guards have no business in my affairs! I am late enough as it is! Beware madam, for your things will be equally man handled by these brutes as well."

Azhira spied a particularly bulging pocket on the gnome's robes. She edged over the smaller man and allowed her hand to drift down. At the same time, she peered over his head and watched the guard curiously. Her hand slipped inside the pocket and felt a small object. She gripped it and pulled away.

The gnome jerked and looked at her curiously. "Hey!" he exclaimed. "What do you think you're doing?"

The guard peered up and glared at Azhira. She backed quickly away and held up her hands. Her expression blank. "What do you mean?"

"You were stepping on my robes!" the gnome huffed. "These robes are worth a fortune, lady. Now look what you've done."

Azhira managed a smile and sighed. She turned away and opened her hand. In it was a small golden earring. Surely this was worth a stay in an inn somewhere. She pocketed her find in her boot and waited to be inspected.

Lt. Grant was watching the guards performing their duties still bemoaning the fact that the woman that he had thought was going to be his salvation from bachelor hood had told him that she was not in love with him.

He listened half-heartedly to an arguement between one of his guards and a fancy dressed gnome. He should have been celebrating his promotion to Lt, with Alliasiel, but that was not going to happen so he went to work.

As Grant looked over the walls of the city he idly wondered why in this weather no one seemed to dress for it. Sure, it was warm and sunny, but just yesterday or was it the day before, they had a blizzard and the air was still nippy even with the sun out.

Then he noticed a woman. A slight woman in non-descrip pants and blouse but what intrugued him was that she was completely bald with what looked liked some sort of mark upon it.

He watched as she came close to the gnome, seemingly asking him a question, but it was her hands that did all the talking. Grant decided then that he would inspect her.

He quickly jaunted down the stairs. "Private, I will take the next one in line,"

The private looked up, saw that it was Lt. Grant, looked over at the next one in line, saw that it was a woman, gave a quick grin to Grant and waved to the woman. "The Lt here, will inspect your belonging's ma'am," he said.

Grant came forward, and held out his hand. "Lt. Grant Reeves. Please come with me...miss?" Grant asked.

Azhira tried to mask the look of surprise on her face when the guard, a Lt Grant Reeves, asked her to come with him.

Had he seen the pickpocket?

Mentally cursing to herself, Azhira attempted to keep her cool and not display any sign of nervousness. After all, he could only looking to inspect her belongings, which weren't much anyway. It could be standard procedure. However, there was always that nagging sense that any kind of attention from a city watchman was not to be taken lightly, especially in her line of work.

Her thoughts went to the earring that she had pilfered from the distracted gnome and cringed inside. She had tucked the earring in her boot and couldn't very well dig it out now with this Lt Grant watching her. If he asked her to remove her boot, he would surely find the earring.

Azhira decided to instead play the friendly, flirty type. She was good at that. Perhaps distract the guard. It had worked in the past...sometimes.

She took the lieutenant's hand in her own and squeezed his rough hands slightly. "Of course, sir," she said with a smile. "Do I earn some special treatment from a lieutenant? I am honored. I am..." she thought of a fake name, one she had used before. "Elena. A pleasure."

With that, she followed Lt Grant.

Grant liked her smile. "Welcome Elena, and to answer your question I think it would be best if we talked in the office. Please follow these stairs to that wooden building up there," he nodded upwards, "and we can talk."

Grant waited for her to go up the stairs so that he could follow her. He was quite intriqued by her, especially now that she was closer. She had the smoothest skin and narrow shaped eyes. The mark on the top of her head he noticed was some sort of tattoo, that extended almost extended down to the middle of her forehead. She moved with the grace of a dancer and he noticed her clothes hardly made any noise as she walked toward him, unlike the rasping noise of woolens. He wondered what her clothes were made of? In fact as she smiled at him, he wondered where she came from? She was definately not Erpheronian, or Caltharian. She was not Elven. She was human, but from where and she definately was female.

Maybe this day may not turn out so bad after all, he thought, relishing the idea of watching her walk in front of him.

"The lieutenant seems receptive. This is a good sign," Azhira thought as she walked deliberately slowly in front of the guard.

"Well, Lieutenant, what shall we talk about?" Azhira asked, her voice smooth. She waved her arm in front of him and winked. "Do you treat all of your guests this way? I feel honored that you chose to speak to me rather than have one of your subordinates...search me over."

Azhira played up the flirtation as much as she could. It had gotten her out of sticky situations before and she hoped this Lieutenant Grant was just as capable of falling for feminine wiles as most every other man. She thought about attempting a spell, but decided that now wasn't a good time. She'd wait until they were alone.

Azhira went on. "This city is wonderful. I've heard many good things about Voltar. Perhaps you can give me a tour later? My relatives here are rather old and prone to violent reactions of illness. They won't be much fun. So, where are we going?"

Grant listened to Azhira talk as he watched her backside slowly and bit more seductively than most women would walk up the stairs. He liked her smooth voice, but he had been around a man who had taught his men well. The Commander gave lessons to all of his men, concerning women and though most would not encounter one such as the one Grant was following, Commander Scar warned all of them of women who talked and flirted too much. It usually meant they had something to hide. Grant knew she took something out of that poor gnome's pocket, he just did not know what or where she put it after she took it. She was good, very good.

"Well, Lieutenant, what shall we talk about?" She asked.

"Well, for one thing we can talk about what you stole from that gnome, and then we can talk about other things once we reach the office," Grant replied, trying not to smile as he thought, That should give her something to think about.

He continued speaking as if nothing had occured, "Oh, I usually treat most ladies with the most utmost respect and you should feel honored, for a thief. And I will search you...most gladly. And yes the city is has many places to see, especially the Palace gardens with their statues and year round flower displays. Perhaps, once I search you...by hand, and we get to know one another a bit better I might be inclined to show you those and other sights of our fair city," Grant said, still watching the swaying of her backside, though it was a bit stiffer than a few blinks before.

They came to a rather large wooden building on top of the Eastern wall. Grant reached around Azihra and opened the door and ushered her in.

The outer office held a large table in the middle of the room with a chair on either side. A large fireplace burned brightly in an alcove on the Southern wall, a pot of water was hung over it. There was a bench on the Northern wall that was covered with plates, tin cups, and the usual utensils for eating and drinking, as well as a rack that hald some casks of wine.  A simple fare of fruit, meat and cheeses sat on a platter in the middle of the large table.

"Come on in, sit and make yourself comfortable. If you are hungry, eat. I am going to make myself a cup of tea, would you care for some, or would you like to partake of something stronger? We have an excellent choice of wines, or if you prefer an ale, we have that as well, or perhaps you would care for just a cool cup of water?" Grant asked, as he walked over to the fireplace and poured into his cup some hot water, all the while watching and studyihg Azihira as he waited for her to answer and whether she would sit or not?

Thief?

So, the hawk eyed lieutenant spotted her pocketing the blustering gnome, did he?

Azhira did a quick look around the office. There was one exit and the officer was blocking it. Using her magic was not an option, especially not in front of a guard. Who knew what he thought of mages. She very well couldn't fight him. And, this flirtatious act was not getting her anywhere - except perhaps adding fuel to an overeager swine of a guard eager to search her. Well, she wasn't going to give him the pleasure.

In the end, she had little choice.

Azhira slipped her boot off, turned it over and shook it. A tiny earring fell out into her open palm. She replaced her boot and held the ring up to the guard.

"Is this what you're looking for?" Azhira asked. "But, the gnome dropped it. I simply saw it laying there, picked it up and neglected to tell the whining gnome. So, yes...it belongs to him. However, I never took it from his pocket."

An admittance to having the ring, sure, but a denial of stealing it. She wasn't about to raise a fuss over a silly earring. Better to face the small punishment, if any, than try anything foolish like attempt to overpower the guard. She had survived for as long as she had by not being overly proud to admit that she had done wrong...however, twisting the story a bit never hurt.

"So lieutenant, what's the fine for something like this?" Azhira asked. "I'll gladly return this earring. Not much worth anyway. If you want to lock me up for picking up a tiny bauble, so be it. But I am sure someone of your rank and stature has more important things to do than harass a simple pilgrim visiting her sick grandmother."

Grant was a bit surprised at Azhira's actions as well as the tone in her voice. He was just playing with her and she took it as real. He it over and decided a different approach was needed if he was going to get to know her better...much better, he hoped.

He did not say a word when he saw her take her boot off and dump out the earring on the table. It was like she said, just a small bauble and probably not worth much, perhaps a nights stay in one of the more unsavory inns in the city, or a small meal.  No, his concentration was on her slender leg and foot. The leg was slender but it was also very toned and muscular. Grant wondered what her occupation was, besides thief, unless that was her true occupation! What a dilema that would pose?

Grant finished pouring the hot water over his tea leaves, and sat down opposite her. Her eyes were flashing with anger. Grant wondered if it was because she had to turn over the earring, or because he had caught her stealing it and no matter what excuse she made, he and she both knew it.  He sipped his tea quietly, listening to her until finally she stopped speaking.

He leaned toward the desk, picked up the earring, looked at it and then tossed it back on the table. "Keep it," he said, "Perhaps your old sick grandmother needs some medication, though I doubt that little bauble will fetch you anymore than a day's worth."

He opened the drawer on the desk and pulled out a piece of parchment, placed it on the desk and reclosed the drawer. He opened the inkwell, picked up the feather pen, dipped it into the ink and then looking at Azihira he smiled. "I believe we got off on the wrong foot, though yours is definately attached to a very nice right leg, my name is Grant, Grant Reeves, Lt. of Voldar's city guards at your service. I need to ask you a few questions, write down the answers on this piece of parchment and then you can be on your way to see your sick grandmother. If you tell me her name I can look her up in the book of records and tell you where she is living. How long has it been since you have seen her? Never mind, you can tell me later, right now I need to know how to spell your full name."

Grant genuinely smiled at her again wondering once again why this gorgeous creature would cut off all her hair and what that mark was upon her head. He was certain she was not from anywhere around here. He had never seen a woman like her in all his life. He could not wait to ask her where she was from? And the story about the sick grandmother. He supposed it could be true, but he doubted it, probably a story she made up to make him feel sorry for her so he would not lock her up. He would have liked to have searched her though...that made him smile a bit more as he waited for her answer.

Azhira relaxed at the lieutenant's words. So he wasn't going to lock her up? She was not ignorant of his amorous stares and she found him to be handsome, somewhat, but also annoying. She made a living breaking the law and getting cozy with a city guard would simply not be wise. Although, he could have his uses...

Azhira scooped up the earring and dropped it in her pocket. She leaned back in her chair, allowing her tired body to sink into the soft cushions. She was a skilled liar, but she knew when not to carry her lies too far, especially to a guard who was most likely trained to spot liars. But, she was no ordinary liar.

"I am glad my leg pleases you, lieutenant," the thief smiled. "I do like to keep my body in good form. I travel and rarely stay still for long."

His staring made her stomach churn and she was beginning find him to be most uncomfortable to be around. She swallowed hard and continued.

"My full name is Elena Aruldae," Azhira said. She kept her eyes locked on the lieutenant's face, never wavering. "As for my grandmother...she is a bit, how shall I say, not in her right mind. She goes by many names. The last one was Smoking Bird. Before that it was Swims In Stars. And, I do believe she went by Deep Fishy Fry at some point in her younger years. You see, she believes herself to be a druid and takes names of nature. Her true name was long forgotten, even by family members. I have quite the task ahead of me to find her but I am sure I'll manage."

Azhira winked at the lieutenant and stood. She had to get out of here...the office was stifling!

"I am sure I can come to you for aid if I need?" she asked. "Where would I find you, lieutenant? Am I free to go?"

Azhira had no intention of ever seeing this man again, but she thought it best to have a potential ally if need me. A guard in your pocket was not a bad thing.
