Urse had covered his eyes and crouched, although he was not sure what to expect.  Then came a loud crack and a smell he did not know followed by the foul stench of one he wished he did not.

He looked up and seeing what looked like bodies, set off towards them.  They were foolish, violent people but they belonged to his mistress and he must prepare them.

Looking around he could see that nearly all the dead had departed.  There was only one woman sobbing.  Her face was charred off and Urse could see the sky through her chest.

"Hush, now.   You will soon be in Querprur's warm arms.  Now before you go to the Lady, tell me who paid you to attack us."

"Queprur waits...."

A faint reply came from the dead woman, speaking from beyond the grave. An elf. Rounded us up. We're only merce-- She was not given a chance to continue as her voice was cut off and the spirit became silent.

The wild cat was running. He heard Paladia cry out and when the shingar raised his head, Shan saw the elfmaid falling to the ground, clutching at her ribs.

Shan came up beside Pally, the elf groaning and holding her side. But the shingar was interupted by the low, baratome voice of the group's leader.

"You there!" he cried, pointing a shaking finger towards Halatir, "What do you think you're doing? They said there would be casualties, but not this many."

Nyari was oblivious to the events up the trail, the little girl was not even aware of Halatir's spell. The child stared wide-eyed at Kim for a moment, not seeming to register.

"Nyari take the mans sword from his hand please."

Blinking, Nyari ran over to Kim and her captive. The little girl bent down and tentatively picked up the short sword. Twisting it over in her hands, she looked up at Kim and lifted it up to the woman to take it.

"A dream can exist only in darkness."

Kim took the short sword as Nyari gave it to her and looked it over.
"Thank you" She said to Nyari "Now stay close to me."
Turning down to the man on the floor she awaited pressed her foot down a little harder, making it harder for him to breath.
"What should I do with you?"

Lowering his hands, Halatir brushed them gently against each other and gathered his staff, slipping it back over his back as he coldly eyed the speaker. His voice held no warmth as he sized the man up.

"Then your employer didn't research very well, did he? Tell me why this group is so valuable and maybe I won't kill you where you stand."

Letting his voice fade away, he wiggled his fingers and spoke a soft word in styrash, causing the wind to rise around him, ruffling his hair and robes, as if he was charging for an even more powerful attack.

Focused as he was on the speaker, he hoped there were no more wild men brave enough to attack him.

In the end, all that mattered was you...

The blast of lightning that the spellcaster had brought upon the opponents had left him stunned and speechless. The last time he had seen power of that kind was with his sister yet her power was nothing compared that of the man beside him.
Minsyth moved to the shadows, being careful as to not be seen or heard as he hurried to get around everyone and get to Paladia and aid her, for even though the cat was now with her, he could do little to help her.

Rushing behind the party he returned to them next to Pally, kneeling next to her, eyeing the area at which her hands were clutching her ribs in pain. Carefully, he stilled her, "Moving will only cause more pain....lie still and let me look at it.." It was then that the leader spoke to the man who had cast the spell. Since he was not being addressed by anyone, he returned to his task in caring for Pally, trying to make her comfortable as best he could in the situation.
Lifting her hand, he gently felt the area, careful as to not cause too much pain, even though he knew it would.

Glancing about the persons of the group, it seemed that everything was under control. Kim was with the girl, Halatir was speaking with the leader, he was with Paladia and the cat...Urse was alone, seemingly conversing with himself as Minsyth often saw him do. All of them were in his line of sight...all others he could not see at the time.

"Moving will only cause more pain....lie still and let me look at it."

Paladia groaned and lay still, knowing that Minsyth spoke the truth. "My ribs..." she muttered through clenched teeth, "I've broken at least one."

"Tell me why this group is so valuable and maybe I won't kill you where you stand."

The leader of the raiders looked at the hurt elf with relative compassion. The huge man turned to look back up at Halatir. "Listen. We were hired to cause trouble. Nothing more. We're all -- we were all -- mercenaries. Hired," he answered, his deep voice steady and emotionless, "I know what you're thinking. And no, we don't know his name. None of us even met him."

One of the raiders coughed as Kim's foot pressed against him and Nyari shuffled in behind the woman. "Rhalle speaks the truth. None of us met him," the pinned man stuttered then grinned up at Kim, "or her."

Kim looked between Nyari and the man.
"What do you mean" She demanded her teeth gritting, pressing down on his throat harder.
Kim looked towards the leader.
"What did he mean!" Unconciously she pulled Nyari even closer to protect her from the words of these men.

Urse was never annoyed when the car all snapped and the deceased joined his mistress, but there were times when he almost sighed.

Without anger, he broke the necessary three blades of grass and tossed the ritual pebble in the air.   In his strong, quiet voice he move his tongue around the words of passing.

He stood and his heart was glad.

The ghost's words came back. An elf?  Not a lot to go off.  He approached the group, ready to tell them.

"Queprur waits...."

Halatir spared the yelling woman a moments glance before turning back to the leader, letting the wind around him die down.

"He means that he enjoys playing games with us. Well, I have one of my own. Make sure your employer knows that the next time he... or she, tries something like this again he... or she, can expect much of the same. Not a very wise investment, is it?"

Leaving the man for the others to deal with, he bent down next to the red haired woman, gruffly waving away the warrior at her side, placing his hand gently over the wound.

" It will hurt as it heals, and I won't be able to mend it all the way, but you will be able to move and fight to some degree."

Closing his eyes, he murmured the words elián'derás, the warmth of his magic spreading from his fingers into her wound.

Kim looked down at the man after hearing Halatirs words.
"Stand" She comanded her eyes thinning, Kim didn't like mind games, she didn't like them one bit.
"If you do not stand I will slit your throat where you lie."

Paladia watched as Halatir bent down to aid her. Why does he help me a second time? Perhaps my father sent him.... she thought, but Pally's train of thought was interupted as the warmth of healing washed over her. The warmth was soon peirced by the gnawing pain of bones shifting overwhelmed her.

Pally clenched her firm jaw until Halatir had finished. He had been right, as her broken ribs felt much better. They would definatly have to be bandaged still, and in no way was Paladia fit to fight with decency. But at least the elf could walk.

She flashed a grateful smile at Halatir, a sight rarely seen by strangers.

The man under Kim watched as his leader handled the situation relatively well, but was jolted back to reality at Kim's command. Quivering, the man nodded curtly and began to stand. He gave a nod, a timid one at that, of thanks to Kim and, scratching his scruffy chin, turned back to the huge man for instruction.

The leader, or Rhalle as he was apparently called, crossed his massive arms and looked at the party with cold, blue eyes. "I take my leave. Me and my comrads have suffered enough today," he said, and with a strong nod of respect to each of them, stalked off the opposite way down the trail.

The man standing by Kim surveyed the area. Most were dead, and those who had survived had already managed to limp away. His fellow archers had long fled after his fall. Turning to Kim, the archer gave a long bow of respect and moved to leave after his captain.

Kim watched as the men left the area, they were fine fighters but fought for a cause that was evil. Turning back to Nyari she checked the child was okay. Something washed over her, never had she cared for anyone, growing up hating the other children, but something about this child, how helpless she was, reminded Kim of herself.
Kim hugged Nyari and smiled at her.
"Everythings going to be fine." But something in the back of her mind told her this wasn't the end and it was something to do with the red haired elf and the cat.
Turning towards the elf
"Should we continue?"
