Kaelan steps back just a bit, scowling deeply. What kind of fool tricks does this pirate --

But then, in an instant, the door begins to creak and crack, and a piece takes leave of its parent piece of wood, striking the floor with a sharp crash that does not remind Kaelan much of wood. Then again, moldy, frozen wood it could easily have been.

He readies his blade, looking to Cole for confirmation. Of course, the front door would have been much more preferrable to him, but this same pirate eliminated that escape. This door would have to do.

Why do you ask?

Even though the other elf was quiet as she ascended the ladder, Isaraldor's acute hearing still made it out. He desceded to let her come over. When she reached out to tap him, he brushed it aside and said "that won't be neccesary. tell me what have a missed?" Meanwhile he manged to pull himself up and leaned agaisnt the back of the bed.

Cole looked dubiously from the mage to Kaelan. Nodding to the warrior, he arranged his shoulder and footing to heave against the wood. It would take two men to smash the two doors apart, so best do it all in one go, he figured. "On three. One. Two. Three!"

With that, the young man heaved and smashed his shoulder against the right door, splintering it considerably but not breaking through.

~~~
"That won't be neccesary. Tell me, what have a missed?"
Paladia looked him over and had to admit that whatever Rose and Pellegra had prepared for his infusion had done him good considering the shape she had last seen the mage in. "We think we might know the location of Atreyk and we're going to... confront him," she began, not liking the sound as the words escaped her mouth. It seem wrong, somehow... going after him. "Are you in shape to accompany us? You can stay here if you think it would be better...."
Kaelan followed Cole's timing exactly, and with roughly the same motion, slammed the large orb on the pommel of his bastard sword into the opposite door. In honesty, he expected nothing more from the pirate-mage. He'd done his part, and a damn good job of it, too. Maybe there was some good in that ice of his.
While Cole's force did in fact splinter the wood and weaken it considerably, Kaelan's action was far more productive. The old, frozen wood shattered and split, sending chunks of wood flying out into the tight alley behind. The heavy iron chain and lock still hung limply from the walls, but was easilly brushed aside for somebody to slip through. The young man rubbed his shoulder and stared at Kaelan's success with slight contempt and looked sheepishly at Rosie whom he found staring out the opening.
"Aye... somebody owes my father a new door..." she murmured, but Shan's attention was elsewhere. His keen hearing focused and heard shouts. The mercenaries!
The massive cat dove out from the shadows, causing Rosie to shriek. Shanvorin nudged his head violently against Thaedras and then Kaelan, more knocking him out of the way than anything, before diving through the new opening. The cat's sleek, black body squeezed through with barely a jingle of the chains and landed silently on the dirt outside with his massive, padded paws.
There, rounding the corner, were four mercenaries, armed and ready to fight. Run, you morons! he thought violently, squaring off on the mercenaries. Save the damn girl!
There is something that warriors cannot mistake, and that is the call of battle. Kaelan regained his balance quickly, the intent of the cat was obvious enough, and followed him closely, standing behind him, his bastard sword already out and at ready. A wry smile crosses his face as he begins the process of staring his opponents down, using his massive size, sudden appearance, self-certain expression, and obvious professional experience to create an intimidation.
Of course, it was up to the others to take care of the girl, in his mind. This was his part - well, the cat could help if it wanted to. It didn't hurt his feelings.
Thaedras saw the cat and the warrior bound out of the room towards the mercenaries, and immediately cursed the warrior. Now was not the time for heroics, he should have let the cat deal with it himself. It couldn't be helped now.
Cole and Rosie, as soona s you go through the door, immediately run AWAY from the battle. I'll be right behind you.
The young couple do as he says, and go through the door, they start to leave, when Rosie calls to the Kaelan
Warrior, we will need you help this way! Please follow!
She then runs off with Cole. Thaedras however, runs up to Kaelan, and grabs him by the arm.
Listen to the girl, let the cat deal with these, we will need you for bigger fights.
"Are you in shape to accompany us?"
"Accompany yes, but fight, perhaps not," was Isaraldor's response. "I guess I can be in the back end of the group and provide some minor support if needed. When are we leaving?" Isaraldor still sat there, well aware of his badly hurting ankle. Which hurt more then usual. But he did not show it, as it was hidden under the covers and he didn't want to show signs of weakness.
The mercenaries stopped cold in their tracks, their weapons slacking a bit at the sight of the massive cat, his sleek coat shimmering in the late afternoon sun. But when Shan spotted Kaelan stepping up beside him, a low growl escaped his throat. The shingar turned slightly, nudging his large head up against the warrior's knees.
You have to move! his mind screamed to himself, looking back at Rosie who stood frozen in fear at the sight of the mercanaries. She'll never budge and leave you here. I'll think of something, just get the girl out of here!
"Rosie, come on!" Cole egged on, taking the young woman by the shoulders and gently trying to move her away. She remained still in shock, staring at the brewing battle before her.
The mercenaries seemed to take a step forward, the four men finding their confidence at Shan's distraction. The shingar wouldn't allow it, stepping one paw down in front of him and growling menacingly, his mouth peeling back to reveal pearly white teeth as sharp and vicious as daggers.
Paladia nodded stiffly and backed down from the loft, calling back up to him in Styrash. "We leave immediately... come as you will, just don't slow us down." The elf strode past the others, taking up her bow and quiver, nearly empty but it's familiarity giving the warrior calm.
"Wait... what is it you exactly plan to do?" Dom said, following after Pally as she headed for the door, a discarded shortsword from one of the fallen mercenaries on his hip.
"The light will be fading soon and awkward shadows can be hard to read unless you know how. If we hurry, we can take them easily enough."
"You're awful young to be giving out orders," came an old husky voice from the back room as Rose emerged from behind a curtain, her hunched figure carrying a salve in a dish. Paladia froze and turned slowly to eye her, burning on the inside but refusing to show emotion to the others. "You don't know what a shipyard is... trust Dom to get around. Besides," she said, stirring at the strange paste absently, "the others are still in the town. You'll need to go through there, anyway."
"What? We don't have time to go looking for them!" cried Dom, his red beard bristling at the thought of being delayed from getting Nyari.
"You do and you will, Dominic. Now go..." Rose said with finality, waving them all off with a hand and turning back to the other room.
Kaelan simply shrugs off the pirate's grip, his eyes locked on his enemy, watching their every move, ready for the battle. But now, the cat nudges him, and he finds a slight grin growing on his face. Apparently, it wants room. With that, he lowers his blade a bit, and steps back several steps, grinning. What he expects now is that the cat is going to get active, and for some reason has enough intelligence to want him out of the way for its initial attack. He can respect that, easily enough. When his own blade begins swinging, he finds himself easily appreciative of allies who clear themselves out of the range of the weapon.
((Sorry about the wrong account. I'm on dial up (Necro, sorry for ever teasing you... scratch that... glad I don't have to live with this. Nyeah hah.) so switching accounts isn't a desirable option for me right now.))
Turning his back to Theadras and the others, trusting the pirate could at least have wits enough about him to run, for the sake of them all, Shan faced the mercenaries. One, the largest of the four with a nasty piece of work in the form of a shortsword in his right hand, seemed to find courage from somewhere. A malice grin spread across his potmarked features as he took two running steps towards Shan and the stubborn warrior. The shingar was quicker. Far quicker.
The cat’s lithe form dove to the side as the mercenary’s blade came down, spinning him to the left and around behind the massive mercenary, the shortsword whirring without contact through the air. Ears flattened back to his head in determination, Shanvorin bore his teeth and pounced, all three pygges of him nailing him on the back. As an afterthought, the shingar struck out his deadly claws and raked across the layer of leather armor that bore a familiar resemblance to the equipment found in the cellar. Claws found their way through leather, then tunic and flesh. Crying out, the large man lurched and nearly crumpled to his knees until Shan received a blow to his flank. His grip failed him and fell to the ground, finding out that cats did not, in fact, always land on their feet. The larger man staggered, blood quickly staining over the length of his back, as Shanvorin spun to face his new opponent, a smaller sell sword with overzealous eyes.
The third mercenary stared, pale as he watched his comrads face up against a beast more vicious than any he had seen in his life. But far be it from him to be outdone by James, the upstart little punk that had deemed it necessary to whollop Shanvorin on the side with the butt of his hilt. With a meager excuse for a war cry, he came in after Kaelan with his short sword brought up high.
It couldn't be more perfect. The enemy brought his blade up, and up is where Kaelan likes it. His own weapon lowered and off to his right, he leaned forward a bit and waited for the opponent to get within striking distance, to just start bringing it down, and with that, he planted his right foot in, toward the enemy as he swung with his arms and his back, flinging the bastard sword in just beyond a semi-circle from right to left, aimed at the opponent's hip, or just above, and moving slightly upwards as it went around.
((Ooc: Sorry if this is a little...confused....my first modding type post so don't be too harsh :s)
Thaedras lef the warrior to his fate, despite Rosie's protests, and decided to get help, heading back for the Old woman's cottage with Cole and Rosie in tow.
Paladia, along with Dom, led the group from the cottage, leading them towards Rosie's shop, where Rose said she sent the others earlier. Overhead, a small, fire red bird is flying. It sees this group, makes a noise and flies off towards the town. Dom let out a surprised yell,
Lia!
The Bird flew back to town, resting on Thaedras' shoulder, chirping wildly. Thaedras realized that he should follow the bird, for she had obviously found something of use to the pirate.
Lead me to it, My sweet.
Lia, smarter than one would think, left Thaedras' shoulder, and started flying, low to the ground, toward the area where she saw the other group, namely one of the members of the group that the bird recognized. Thaedras quickly followed, The two young lovers behind him.
The two groups quickly found eachother, the meeting started by two loud yells
Dominic! Yelled Thaedras
Thaedras Yelled Dom.
The two were quickly embraced in a hug, the two long time friends reunited after many years.
The younger mercenary faltered as Kaelan's heavy blade forced it's way through the leather armor and cut into his ribs. The force alone not only winded the poor man, but probably cracked a rib or two from sheer momentum. He staggered to the side, and attempted to maintain his swing, having only the mind to bring the pommel of his short sword down on Kaelan's exposed collar bone.
A menacing growl escaped Shanvorin's throat, rippling over his tongue as he bore his dagger-like teeth to the new oncomer. James grinned feverishly, swinging his sword around eagerly. Shan hesitated... he was no older than himself, and he had seen that look in many of his friends. Eager to please, eager to prove his worth. Did the mercenary really deserve to die? What was he even fighting for? Shan thought with dismay, the young soldier egging the cat on with his eyes. Did he even know? Unfortunately, the troubling thoughts were dashed from Shan's mind as James, weary of waiting, charged in on him point first. The cat dodged easilly enough to the side and lunged forward, driving his head between the mercenary's knees and tripping him over his heavily muscled shoulders. James sprawled, his weapon skipping across the road, and the shingar crept up onto him, breathing hotly into his quivering and terrified face.
