Khel/Eyelian/Rogue Merchant
«
on:

Name:
Khel
Gender:
Female
Age:
23
Race:
Human
Tribe:
Eyelian, of the Eagle Clan
Occupation:
Rogue/Traveling Merchant
Title:
Unbound Rogue
Appearance
Height:
1.5 ped
Weight:
1 Pygge, 3 Hebs
Hair Color:
Raven
Eye Color:
Almost completely black, with a tint of purple
Physical Appearance/Clothing
Khel is short, fairly slender, and agile. Sinewy muscles cover her body, although she is young and not nearly as strong as a fully grown man. Most stand tall over her, but her attitude takes precedence over her stature. She has long, raven hair, a round face, and generally unfriendly, faintly purple eyes. Although, when amused or happy, the purple becomes more visible. Just the same, when irritated or upset, Khel’s eyes return to the blackness as per usual. A small, round nose, and full pink lips make her look more youthful, while her skeptical looks and almost constant pursing of her lips contradict it. Small, rough hands show a lifetime of exploring and hard work. Nimble fingers serve to craft arrows and other tools.
Khel likes to be comfortable and able to move in whatever clothing she is wearing. Uncharacteristic of women in her tribe, Khel wears no jewelry. Her clothes are simple and easy to move in, ranging in tans, greens, and other earth tone colors. She usually adorns a simple, fitted tunic, lacing near the top, accompanied with fitted breeches. Also uncharacteristic, Khel wears soft leather boots and a leather sleeveless jerkin she obtained in her wanderings. A hooded cloak serves to warm her, and in chilly mornings, soft leather gloves warm her hands.
Personality
Khel has a ranging personality, seeming to constantly change her mind. She is irritable, she finds being around unrest and immaturity irritating to her. Along with irritability, Khel is flighty in her decision making, neither making tough decisions on her own, nor choosing a decision at all. Hardheaded due to solitude and total independence, Khel is hard to work with and difficult to befriend, depending on her current state of mind and immediate impression of the person before her.
Although, pushing past the stubborn young lady is easy if you know the trick. The trick is entirely unknown. The pursuer must have just the right things to say, and possibly need to dig further than imagined, giving most reason to give up. However, if one pushes hard enough, they will see that underneath, Khel is overly-giving. If you want something, Khel will probably give it to you. She has no backbone once you gain her trust. Once you reveal something about yourself, Khel will probably respond with her life's story. She seems to feed off of other people's openness. Due to quick, sarcastic remarks, Khel finds herself with few close friends, but is able to laugh and joke about almost anything with those few-revealing her good nature underneath all the solitude. Khel would rather make a joke of a serious issue than discuss the issue itself, especially concerning her family.
Khel is very concerned with respect. She's always respected and been at one with the creatures and nature about her, and she demands the same from all other species. Especially from other humans, Khel can take even a kind glance the wrong way. Her mind flits about, not understanding her own emotions enough to comprehend another's. Khel is confident in herself, what she says never comes out hesitantly unless she is sincerely unsure of what to say. In business dealings, Khel is proficient and has mastered the talk, the bargaining and haggling, she is a swift machine of sales and barters. When faced with a challenge or a foe, Khel is harsh and unforgiving, rarely compromising, and always taking the next step on her own time. Overall, Khel is friendly and kind, but she is capable of ruthless manipulation.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
-Sneaking/light of foot/agile: Khel is good in close combat, and stealthy on her feet.
-Good with small knives/daggers: Although skilled with hands and feet, Khel can fight well with a dagger on her person.
-Proficient hunter: Khel can find food for herself sufficiently with a bow and arrow. She has learned to use this weapon well throughout her youth.
-Singing: Khel loves to sing, and she can do so fairly well.
-Loyalty: Khel is loyal and trustworthy. Once you gain her trust, she'll return it in full force. She understands and values friendship to no end.
-Intelligence: Khel is intelligent and learns at a quick pace. Solitude and time with the huntsman gifted her with keen eyes to take in her surroundings and learn quickly the ways of her current environment.
Weaknesses
-Solitude: Khel can be very, very hard to cooperate with, working with other humans is difficult for her, depending on her immediate impression, which is usually harsh and wrongly judged.
-Irritable and flighty: It’s hard for Khel to make serious decisions, causing distress and irritability in pressing situations. This flightiness caused Khel to lose her background, her own lineage and identity.
-Clumsy/Awkward: Both in word and action, Khel’s indecision can cause her harm: whether it be a ruined relationship, or a loss in a fight.
-Open: Khel has a sharp tongue. Most of the time, she chooses not to censor herself and let her thoughts and actions flow. Most of her relationships are shallow and merely business related because of this.
-Arrogant: Khel can be a little
too
confident at times, confident to the point of other peoples' annoyance or anger. Confident to the point that no one else could possibly be right.
History
In a small Eyelian village near the Vale of the Brownies, a single child with raven black hair and curious eyes was born to two very distracted parents. They were young, and not at all ready to bare a child, and had no knowledge of the way to raise one. The father, after less than a full day in the Lodge of Purification, returned with the name “Khel”. The choosing of her name was swift, as if the Two Gods gave her no further thought at all. As a baby, the parents knew all the traditions, but hardly had an opinion nor shared any experience of their own. They were still young and in love, still enamored with each other, and the baby got none of the love and devotion she needed. A small Eagle Claw tattooed on the child’s right ankle gave her to the Eagle Clan, but the confusion of raising a child separated Khel from her rightful parents.
Khel spent much of her childhood alone. This wasn't planned on her part, it was by choice. Khel found herself connecting less with other people of her tribe than animals, or the nature around her. She always appreciated nature even from a young age, and due to this Khel was not in touch with friends her age while growing up. Khel was friendly enough, but only connected to a few people closely, and never children of her age. Never did Khel spend time with her parents. Her father and mother provided her a bed and a supper, but otherwise were entirely enthralled with each other. A lot of Khel’s time was spent in the marketplace area, befriending the old blacksmith or the old woman barely scraping by. She would wander there in the mornings, simply observing, watching, and admiring the smooth-talking merchants, buyers, and sellers.
Due to time spent in the smithy, and befriending the elderly huntsman on the outskirts town, Khel developed skills and strength most young girls wouldn't have dreamed of learning. He taught her to craft a bow and her own arrows, although they were never perfect, she took pride in her abilities as a small girl and would puff with pride as she strode through the village with her bow slung across her back. She would awaken early nearly every morning to make the trek to the huntsman's home and learn more. Khel took an outward look at things, not focusing on her home and family, but overly-curious at the world outside of what she knew and on the creatures around her. Since she spent a lot of time with him in the forest learning the arts of hunting and archery; Khel's greatest teacher and parental figure as she got older was the huntsman. He taught her use of small weapons; knives and daggers, as well as her bow and arrow. This hunstman for some reason felt need to teach Khel what he knew. Khel though at times he would act strangely, as if speaking to something in the forest around him, but paid that no heed, absorbing what he taught and ignoring the rest. Khel grew to deeply respect the huntsman, but also grew apart from him as she matured and became more self-sufficient, putting her knowledge to good use.
As more people noticed Khel around the village, and as she became older and more useful to the huntsman, she began to run errands for people. Odd jobs for the huntsman and for citizens of her villiage provided Khel with the coin to clothe herself, fill a small purse, and carry a small sack which serves for her to carry some small tools and morsels. Like most members of her tribe, Khel was very independent. She, however, took this to an extreme. She longed to travel like the smooth-talking merchants, longed to put behind her this small, enclosed village. When Khel’s parents dutifully sent her into the Lodge of Purification as a young woman, and then out into the wilderness with only a small dagger, Khel was not concerned with seeking her Spirit Guide, instead she knew she was quite capable on her own and wandered further away than ever planned. Khel’s overconfidence and self assurance lead her away, and she confidently took this in stride, remembering the people in her marketplace, her longing to travel like they did, and became a rogue, unbound to any tribe. Her only reminders were the small dagger, constantly haunting her, and the Eagle Claw decorating her ankle.
Khel did not immediately regret her decision. She was young, arrogant, and confident as a youth with her ability to survive without her village or heritage planning her every move. Over time, though, she realized she was entirely lost. Her identity, her origin; her self-worth. She spent many years traveling aimlessly, and extremely enjoying herself. Carrying goods from place to place, learning the smooth, witty game of the trader and merchant, Khel actually became quite good at what she does. She would introduce herself as a valuable merchant, someone trustworthy and confident in their skill. Khel even took up a few unsavory jobs, swindling people out of their money or goods, and found the entire game quite delightful. The purple in the woman's eyes would flash and a mischievous grin would cross her face during the quick speech of a business dealing. Khel even acquired her only companion, a pony named Bristol, when she realized her need to purchase a cart was dire. For some time, Khel was quite happy with her decision, and only on the rare occasion that she would glimpse her ankle tattoo would she remember the home she left.
Khel gave almost no thought to a husband or a mate of any kind. Like most of her clan, Khel did not work well with others, and never took on a partner. Only occasionally would she feel the pang of loneliness, but overall she simply had a great amount of fun. Khel knew one day she would have to choose a path to recover herself and discover what she missed as a child, knowing she must travel home and rediscover her origins. Her only hesitation in the matter is that she may be refused by her kin due to her differences from them. As she travels, Khel poses as the merchant she always longed to be, but has very little possessions as her supply and demand runs dry. From her wanderings, though, Khel has learned and taken on much of others culture and tradition. She is now more a mixture of Santharian tribes than purely the Eyelian she was born as.
Always in the back of her mind is the woman Khel longs to be, the Spirit Guide that has yet to be found; the loyal partner who will nurture her if she would give them the chance. Finding this part of herself is most of what makes Khel a difficult person to be around, because she really is kindhearted, gentile, loyal, and genuine. Khel is a confused, lost woman. To find herself will take becoming a lot of what she never hoped to be, and never realized she could become.
Weapons
Khel has in her possession a bow and arrows she crafted herself when she was a youth. The bow has served her well in hunting, but its craftsmanship is not perfect, and it would not bode well in serious battle situations. The arrows are sturdy and a little too short, but Khel is not worried, as she is more proficient with her hands and feet, or her dagger.
She also carries her small dagger tucked in her left boot – the dagger given to her as a child.
Belongings
Khel carries only a small amount of items.
Within a small pack:
-Waterskin
-A few items of food
-A change of clothes: simply another set of shirt and breeches
-A few small trinkets: these were items that failed to be sold in any of her business dealings, and are now a burden to her. Instead of throwing them out, however, she chooses to keep them.
Khel also owns a small cart, purchased with her pony, to carry wares for shop owners or other merchants.
Familiars
Khel has a small pony, Bristol. He is short, sturdy, and shaggy. Short brown fur covers his body, his man and tail a little lighter than such. Khel is not sure what type of pony he is, but he has proved to be a wonderful companion throughout her journeys. Bristol has soft brown eyes and his mane falls over untidily over his face most of the time. Bristol has an attitude, but a mainly pleasant demeanor.

If she is irritable, i think she is actually more likely to bicker, as irritable people will be immature and go on in a point and say the dumbest things just to yell about a point they know they are wrong in...

Hello, Khel! Welcome to santharia!
At the moment I have two small remarks:
1) Could you maybe put the personality section into full sentences and an alinea, like you did with the physical appearance?
2) Surely she has more strengths than purely combat-related?

I noticed that you did not have a weight section, please add one below or above your height section for reference.
Also:
Quote
Since she spent a lot of time
spent
in the forest, learning the arts of hunting and archery, Khel's greatest teacher and parental figure as she got older was a huntsman.
In this, the colored spent is not required, and can make the sentence confusing.
These are just 2 things i noticed, i hope they help.

It's a good first attempt already
I'll try to give this a uricheck soon.
Weivoc: it is stated in the CD guide that weight is optional, it doesn't HAVE to be added. I do appreciate it that you are willing to help out with commenting

Well I wasn't sure, I'm always told that it should be added for reference and haven't been to that section in a while. Well Khel, if you would like help creating the weight, I'll be glad. You are 1.6 peds, which puts you about 5 foot tall or so. You say you want slender, agile, yet ok strength. This would put you about 100 to 150 pounds, just tell me what you want and I can look it up, or you can get it bby going to the measures converter at the right, just make sure to set it to the right setting.

The only thing wrong with your weight, is the fact that you don't need to go that far, just to heb or hafeb.

Right! Could you maybe divide your appearance and personality into a few paragraphs? And change the 'Sardonia' in your history to 'Sarvonia'?
When you've done that, I think you're ready for a title :-)
