  • Fiery temper can cloud judgment. When Krinaia is angry she can't think straight and ends up getting herself into trouble.
  • She isn’t good at thinking ahead, often she ends up making spontaneous decisions without understanding the implications of her actions.

History:Krinaia's mother Elwing always wanted to see the world, different places, people, cultures. So when she was 116 she decided it was time. With her parents blessings she left with her uncle who was a merchant and could give her a ride as far as World Quest after that she was on her own. Meanwhile Krinaia's father Josh was a soldier in the Centoraurian tribe, he was on duty in Salsair and that’s where they met. Elwing was lost and needed directions and asked josh for help. They spent the day together visiting the inns and shops. Even at the end of the day they both were reluctant to part; evidently they had fallen deeply in love each other, and decided to get married. A year later a little girl was born bringing with her sorrow and joy.

Krinaia's mother died a few hours after giving birth to her. Growing up life was tough for Krinaia as she was the one who took care of every thing, which made her strong and capable to take care of herself very early in life. Krinaia and her father had a very loving relationship. When ever he had time he would teach her the use of a sword or tell her stories about her mother which Krinaia liked to hear very much even though she had heard them a million times before.

Very early in life Krinaia had a fascination for water. She would think to herself how water was the one thing that gave life to all living beings, how no one could survive without water and also how it took life away. How water stood for creation and destruction, cleanness and pureness. She believed water to be the most powerful element of all even more so than fire. At first her father was disturbed by this and tried to direct Krinaia's thoughts to something else but when unsuccessful he let the matter go. But as time passed these thoughts grew and Krinaia imagined how would it be if she could control the element of water. That would be great if possible.

Krinaia loved to swim whenever she got the chance. One summer morning the heat was so unbearable that she decided to go swimming first then finish her work at home. When she got there the water was warm so she sat under a tree and waited a while thinking that if only the water was cool. She put a toe in the water longingly and was surprised to find that the water had cooled down considerably, seeing that she had checked only 5 minutes before and the water was warm. When she told her father about this he thought nothing about it and told Kirnaia to drop the subject.

But Krinaia thought that maybe she had something to do with the water turning cold because the water 5 Minutes before the water was warmer so she tried to do the same thing to a small bowl of water, trying to imitate her feelings and thoughts and managed to form a thin layer if ice on top. She felt really exhausted and drained after this. She spent time everyday after that incident practicing and improving her concentration as much as she could without proper guidance. She started to test her powers little by little, but even when she was sure that she was causing all these effects she did not tell anyone even her father.

When Krinaia was 20 years old her father passed away. Unable to stay in a house where everything reminded her of her father Krinaia decided to leave. The only possessions of her father she took was his sword and a beautiful mare named Grace whom she sold later at a good price.

During her travels she came across a learned mage and asked to train with him, he agreed but asked for payment in return. When Krinaia left her home she didn't have much money with her but since her passion to learn magic was so much she agreed. She studied with the mage for 12 years, becoming a level 3 mage and then decided to move on as she wanted to see the rest of the land.

While traveling one day Krinaia found a badly wounded horse. She healed the wounds as best she could and then tried to find its rider near by but when unable to do so she decided to take the horse with her to a near by town in hopes of finding some help. She nursed the horse back to health with the help of the town healer. And even when after a month of staying in that town and not hearing any news of the rider (Not that she really tried) Krinaia claimed the horse as her own and named her Swift. For the past few years now she has been traveling to new places and seeking more knowledge in all things arcane.

Magic: Krinaia is very talented and has great concentration. She is an advance level 3 mage. The only proper training she has is from a very learned mage she met while traveling. Hence her understanding of magic is not nearly as complete as a properly trained mage and her list of spells, while diverse in level range, is much smaller than a properly trained mage. Some spells she can cast are: Area of Frost, Cold Breath, Distract and Calm.

Belongings:
  • Change of clothes
  • food/water
  • little money
  • feather pen
  • bottles of ink
  • A bag to put it all in
  • a sword
  • A bag for reagents

Weapons: A Centoraurian Short Sword

Familiars: Krinaia has a horse named Swift. Grey in color almost white, she stands 15.2 hands and is 12 years old. Swift is very loyal, intelligent and has an incredible sense of direction. She also is very fast hence the name Swift. She is a nice, big mare. Typically a Centoraurian horse with its long, slender, arched neck and proportionately long legs.

Err, gifted are not restricted. *points at the restrictions page*

As for not knowing concentration is vital for a mage... err, why wouldn't you? I think it's pretty common knowledge that the more focus you put into something, the more likely you are to succeed at it. When I was a kid I used to try and do magic by concentrating really really hard. ;)

And yes, magic can be self taught. Ximaxian magic cannot be self-taught because it is a system, but magic itself as the process of producing magical effects through willpower *can* be self-taught, it is just a very slow, very difficult, and tends to be pretty weak overall. But the main thing needed for magic is willpower, concentration, and creativity, not formulas or scientific theories. Believing in something enough will cause magic to happen, and someone who finds themselves gifted in this regard does not need to go to Ximax to get better (though, without structured training, what they can actually accomplish is very, very limited, and dangerous at times)

Er.. I mean the chosen ones. But dipping your toes in the water certainly would not make it cold.

Without knowledge of magic and how it works, she could not have known that concentration is needed for magic. Mind you that her character has not even begun her magical training. Also, the general population of Caelereth does not know magic.

We usually discourage magic to be self taught because that would make the character a bit powerful. And, I can't see anything that she can test because the character does not know any magic yet; the character can't know the basics without others teaching her. Believing in something... Isn't that clerical magic?

Hmmm... You can teach yourself using magic but it would be very very slow. I fear that your character is too young to be a level 3 mage if no proper training was given to your character....

Another thing... Is your character a gifted? Hmmm.... Even if she is, dipping her toes in the water will not make the water cold that fast.

Angela: your last two comments were already said, the one by Thorgas, the other by both Thorgas and Josephine. I have seen before that your comments are just a repition of previous comments. We appreciate that you are trying to help, but could you try to comment on things that others have not said before, please? Thank you :)

Krinaia: I will let the magic people help you with the magic first, I'll see if there are inconsistencies after that :)

What i meant by this was she performed a feeble form of cold breath or ice touch. Also i agree with Josephine Frostwhisper that maybe Krinaia might not have understanding of magic but it's sort of common knowledge and instinct that concentration is needed to perform magic. Also she tried to imitate her feelings and thoughts and hence thaught herself a little magic. Not strong or longlasting but magic non the less.

Thanx for all your help.  Thumb up grin

Without knowledge of magic and how it works, she could not have known that concentration is needed for magic. Mind you that her character has not even begun her magical training. Also, the general population of Caelereth does not know magic.

You don't need to know a shred of magic to believe that concentrating hard can allow you to do it. That's what separates the Gifted from the normal people... normal people can concentrate hard in an attempt to do magic and nothing will come of it, while the Gifted can concentrate (either consciously or subconsciously) and be able to perform it.

Concentration is not something that you learn from an Academy. The Academy teaches techniques and mathematics. But magic at its heart is completely based on willpower and you don't need a school to tell you that--every child while growing up goes through a stage where they believe that anything they want is possible. What the Academy teaches is specific directional concentration -- IE, concentrating on activating this property, or that link, to achieve a desired effect. While Gifted magic, magic by willpower, is overall concentration -- Imagining and concentrating that an apple will appear in your hand, and then suddenly *pop* it appears. The Ximax method is concrete, stable, and powerful, while the Gifted method is hit and miss (and only gets better if it works. If it works, you will believe you can do it again and thus you will try it again. If it doesn't work, you believe it won't work and thus you lose faith in it working again. This is the basis for Clerical magic as seen by the Ximaxian viewpoint).

Isn't that clerical magic?

Clerical magic depends on who you talk to. By the Ximaxian viewpoint, there is absolutely no difference between Clerical Magic and Gifted Magic. Both are based purely on concentration, willpower, and imagination, and the faith in that your concentration will produce an effect. So both are, in effect, faith-based magic, because both are relying on faith of something (either a god or your own innate talent) to produce a desired effect, and the success or lack of success of that will positively or negatively impact your faith, and thus positively or negatively impact your likelihood to believe you can do the same thing again.

The thing with Gifted magic is, though, that you generally will not get beyond level 1 in ability. You shouldn't discourage people from using Gifted magic but you should make them understand that the amount of spells and effects they can produce is extremely minor. IE, with this whole 'cooling the water' thing-- certainly plausible, but it's probably going to be one of only 2 or 3 effects the character can do without proper training. Very, very minor magic that doesn't imbalance a character at all.

*In regards to the character herself: How long did you spend learning from the mage you met? It would take about 10 years or so to get to level 3.
