Zann Lightbringer/ Erpheronian/ Cleric of Nehtor

Greetings people. I got the OK signal from Talia for creating a cleric a few years ago provided that I omit the magic section temporarily until she finishes the entry, but I wasn't able to finish this CD because she was on vacation at that time and could not comment on it. It became lost in the depths of the CD forum in time and now it has been reposted under another name. I also asked permission from Kalina and I was granted a chance to have it posted again. My thanks to those two wonderful ladies.
Now for the CD proper.
Name: Zann Lightbringer
Gender: Male
Age: 80
Race: Human
Tribe: Erpheronian
Occupation: Healer and a Cleric of Nehtor
Title: Blessed Healer
Height: 1 ped and 3 fores
Weight: 220 ods
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: White hair once covered the head of the elder. Now he is bald.
Detailed description
Overview: A warm, kind-hearted old man who loves to help people, particularly those in need of healing, regardless of tribe or race. Many others seek his wisdom for guiding their actions in certain kinds of situation; still others find him a pleasant companion, especially inside a tavern where his love for food, drinks, and stories are made very evident. Of course, he will not eat inside an establishment unless it’s free because travelling clerics have no money.
Physical Appearance: Zann stands at a height of 1 ped and 3 fores when standing at his full height, but is slightly stooped down due to old age. He’s a moderately chubby, jolly person, in contrast to the normally thin elders that can be seen in his village. His hair and beard are colored white that often reminds others of an elder’s wisdom, however old age claimed his hair. A set of green, twinkling eyes, despite his old age, makes his wrinkled face appear friendly to people.
Clothes: Zann wears a green woolen long-sleeved shirt and a pair of dark green woolen pants, which is held up by a brown linen sash. A long, elaborate blue silk robe with a hood, a gift from the temple, cover both the shirt and the pants. The hood serves the purpose of protecting his head and eyes from rain, snow, sands, and the like. On his feet he wears a pair of white woolen socks and a pair of black leather boots. A purple silken cap which he wears when the weather is nice, a metal amulet made of silver, and a wooden staff carved with the symbols of the Lone Dancer adds the finishing touches to the garments of the aged cleric.
Personality:
Zann is a shy and quiet man who seldom speaks to people. Maybe because he has been like that since he was a boy, or maybe from a horrible experience that took his only son from him. He is a soft-spoken, kind old man, faithful to both his wife and Nehtor, and is contented with what he has. He is an approachable man, provided that people can overcome his eccentricism. People who managed to coax him out from under his rock will find him to be quite a jolly and affable fellow, one whom people enjoy drinking beers and swapping stories with.
Even though he was devastated by the loss of his beloved son, he tries not to show it whenever possible. However, he becomes quiet whenever people ask about it. He even cries when he remembers the days when his son is still with him, but instead of being discouraged, he continues his mission of healing people and telling them about Nehtor.
Strengths:
Wisdom- Zann is an elderly person and as such had many experience in his past life. Quite a number of people go to him to get suggestions or advice for making decisions. Although he is not omniscient and can only give guidance to people, most of the advice he gives is as good as gold.
Healing- His knowledge in healing by the use of plants is vast, and can use herbs and other items to heal other people. He can identify herbs that are good for the body and prescribe remedies for ailments.
Kind- Never did he reject anybody who comes to him for aid, as long as it is all about healing, not material problems. People whom he helped are always grateful for it, and they can be assured that Zann will hep them again if ever they need it.
Educated- During his stay in the temple he was taught to read and write, and this gives him an edge over the others who are uneducated. He has written books about healing herbs and how to prepare them.
Weaknesses:
Old Age- His age is taking its toll on him; he can only walk for a short distance, until then he would need the support of his staff. He runs out of breath easily and he cannot run at all.
Zealotry- In his zeal of healing the sick and injured people, he forgets himself and his own health is not taken into consideration, no matter how contagious the disease is nor the situation in a battlefield.
Drunkard- An old man who loves drinking wines as old as him, whenever someone offers him a mug, he empties it with a gulp and a burp and does not give a care about what it can do to him nor what would be its effect on him.
Forgetfulness- With old age comes the tendency to be forgetful, and people talking to him will find out that he quickly forgets anything that he says or do.
History:
Zann was born and raised by religious parents on a farm. He is the second out of 4 sons, and a sickly one at that. In his childhood days, he is often seen in temples, listening to the elders’ talk and watching them as they read and write holy texts. During these days his father was afflicted with a disease that was considered incurable, until a coven of Dalorins visited their village. As an act of kindness they healed the man, without asking for money and other worldly things, only the belief and worship to their god. His father readily agreed and told his family to do the same.
After a few years, Zann grew from a quiet, studious boy to a well built teenager. He was a little taller than his playmates, which caused him to be awkward and shy. During these years he was introduced by his mother to a temple venerating Nehtor, and told him what his father wanted him to be; that is, to become faithful to the god who saved his life. At this the boy readily agreed, not only because he is thankful of Nehtor for saving his father’s life, but also for the opportunity to be able to read, write, and heal. He was accepted into the temple, and soon enough he was being taught how to read, write, identify herbs used for healing, and to have faith in their deity.
Like all human beings, Zann wanted a good wife to love and be loved in return, and such a perfect woman for him is his childhood friend Felina. She might not be the most beautiful woman in the continent and she's fat to boot, but she has the trait that has overlooked those physical limitations; her good kind heart that captivated him since his early teen years. Years went by and they got married. A year had passed and his wife gave birth to a child. It was a boy and a pride to both his parents. The boy grew tall and strong, and wherever the couple went, they brought the boy along with them. His son, which he named Asborn, grew into a handsome young lad. As soon as age allowed him to choose a profession, he decided to train with the sword and the shield. His father was a bit disturbed, but allowed his son to have the freedom to choose his own future.
All this had passed until he was fully ordained into the temple. In it he studied and prayed to Nehtor, thanking him for simple things as well as the complicated ones. He is getting rather old, and for his unwavering faith, perseverance, obedience to the god, he was given a staff, a silver amulet, and the blue clothing that all Nehtorians wear, to symbolize him as a cleric of the god.
With these gifts he decided to do more for the god he loves so much; to travel the land, healing people in the name of Nehtor and persuading others to worship him. His son went with him, but he left his wife behind with a promise of a safe return. They travelled to several villages and helped the people remedy their ailments. Some were successful, while unfortunately others failed. Despite these failures never did his faith drop; he held on in steadfast belief to his god, praying that the next attempt would be successful.
Both father and son grew fond of travelling to different towns, supporting each other in their duties. One dark day however, as the caravan they joined pushed its way towards a nearby village, a party of bandits jumped from the nearby shrubs and demanded the cargo they were carrying, or lose their life. Asborn and the other caravan guards defended the people and won, but luck was not with him that day. He took a crossbow bolt in the chest before the last of the bandits disappeared into the hills. Frantically the cleric tried to save his son. Prayers to Nehtor, bandages, salves and herbs were scattered on the ground, but Queprur's power proved to be stronger. Before the day was over, a tombstone stood on the ground, and a lonely old man was kneeling in front of it, weeping in sorrow. In his prayers addressed to his patron god he asked why didn't he save his child; his offerings were always ready, and his servant was his to command. However, he soon realized that questioning his god would not change the fact that Asborn was dead; he does not know what to tell his wife, but he decided that he would just continue his devotions to Nehtor first. The next day they continued their journey, to other towns and villages ahead.
While going about a particular village healing people, a farmer stumbled to him with wounds across his body and bleeding profusely; he had been attacked by wild animals. The man collapsed, and with the aid of the villagers they took him to his home and treated his wounds. The next week the farmer, all better now due to the care administered by the cleric, gave him a young kiang donkey and a small wagon as a gift. Zann was overjoyed at having a companion and decided to keep him. Pouring out thanks to both the man and Nehtor, he departed from the village.
Through the years, Zann traveled the land, still continuing his mission of healing and telling people of Nehtor. He is getting on to the age where most people sit by a fireplace and cuddle grandchildren, but to him his work is far from over. He still travels to other cities and villages, looking for people who might be in need.
Religion:
Zann is a fervent worshiper of Nehtor, god of healing, renewal, and rebirth, as well as the god of concerns, sorrows, and mourning. He heals in the name of Nehtor, and when in success, he gives thanks and prayers to him. Never had his faith been shaken when his prayers goes unanswered; He assumes this as a sign from his god that he needed more faith and belief than what he is giving to Nehtor at that moment.
Weapons:
Staff- A gnarled staff given to Zann during his stay in the temple. While this could not be considered a deadly weapon in the hands of an old man, it could be used for self defense just in case. He can only swing it around a few times before stopping to catch his breath.
Belongings:
Items Inside His Bag:
Wooden Pipe- Nothing could be better than sitting in front of a fireplace with a mug of beer in one hand, smoking and reminiscing about the days of his youth.
Tome of Prayer- A book dedicated to Nehtor, it contains chants and prayers used for communing with his god.
Skin of Wine- Zann would never leave a place without one of these!
Skin of Water- If the supply of wine is gone this might come in handy, though not as good as the first one.
Ink, Pen, and Parchment- The basics for inscribing prayers into his tome.
Rolls of bandages- Used to patch up any wounded person, be it in a battlefield or in an injured man’s house.
Bag of Medicine- Bottles containing liniments, salves, ointments, and creams, as well as healing herbs, are carefully placed inside this versatile bag.
Pouch of Food- Just in case he got hungry, a pouch of food is the only solution.
Small portrait- a painting of Asborn in his teenage years.
Items Placed Inside The Cart:
Big Bag- The bag that holds the items mentioned above.
Cooking and eating utensils- Pots, pans, and other utensils used by the elder when he had to camp outside, cook food and eat due to lack of money.
Tent and Bedding- A portable tent that can be dismantled and reassembled in a short time. The bedding can be rolled and unrolled on the ground, making a rather comfortable sleeping mat.
Lamp- Zann uses this when he needs to write down things or when he simply needs a light.
Tinderbox- Useful for starting fires and for cooking.
Fishing Rod- Lack of money forced him to gather food for himself, which in this case, catching fishes in streams and lakes.
Familiar:
Zann was given a female kiang donkey, which he named Chalanna. The donkey is used as a riding and pack animal when the old man grows tired of walking. Kiang donkeys are known to be gentle but over protective animals and excel at fending off potential enemies. The animal is grey in color, stands at 15 palmspans from hoof to ears, a length of 20 palmspans from muzzle to tail, and a weight of 330 ods. The donkey is very fond of her master and would nuzzle him whenever he approached her. In return, Zann treated her like his own daughter.

Hi Zann,
Neat character. You don't see many old people around here. Mostly young whippersnappers.
A couple of things:
1. You don't have a Personality section. If you're still working on the CD, you may want to change your icon to the pencil incomplete.
2. Your staff and your familiar could both be considered strengths if they are used to help defend yourself and/or aid you in some way.
3. Your history sections seems a bit short for having lived for 80 years. Perhaps a bit more stories of his life?

Thank you for the comments Azhira!
I decided to remove the personality section since it is very much the same with the overview. It would be redundant if I wrote it again.
I don't think the staff would be a dangerous weapon in the hands of an old, feeble man. He's not trained in its use and can only swing it around to deter or perhaps scare potential enemies. The donkey is only used as a pack animal or perhaps for its milk, which is good for the elderly.
I'll try to think of more story to add to it, but CD mods get tired from checking CD's that are very long. Well, some of them at least. I know I did when I was one.

Many others seek his wisdom for guiding their actions in certain kinds of situation; still others find him a pleasant companion, especially inside a tavern where his love for food, drinks, and stories are made very evident, as long as it’s free, of course.

Personality Section?
I would like to see his strengths and weaknesses defined in 2-3 sentences. This adds depth and allows moderators to see how great of a strength or weakness each of them are. Nothing elaborate but some mention of how each have helped (strengths) or hindered (weaknesses) him in the past.

Thorgie you know from experience how important the personality section is and I would ask you to expand on it a bit more. Nothing overboard like Vesk but some more detail would really help to define this character a bit more.
