Dwarf, Mitharim

« on: March 09, 2008, 04:34:19 AM »

Name: Galein UmwieWirrelinntheroon(last name usually shortened to UmwieWirrelinn)
Gender: Female
Age: 175
Race: Dwarf
Tribe: Mitharim
Title: Short-sized Cook
Occupation: Cook / Owner of the Kann Kemruhnt(The Marble Warhammer)

Appearance
Height: 1 Ped, 1 Fores
Weight: 2 Pygge, 2 Hebs, 1 Hafeb
Hair Color: Deep Brown
Eye Color: Hazel

Physical Appearance: Galein has been interested in food all her life. Her ancestors were cooks and this tradition has not failed through history. Her great-great-great-great-great grandmother was a cook and her daughter became a cook and so on. This being true, she has a bit more weight than the other naturally heavy dwarfs. She doesn't like to travel because it takes to much effort. Instead she stays in Tyr Donian working the tavern her grandparents started.

That being said, she does appear to have some muscle on her arms. This is because she has to lift flour sacks and other heavy things. Stirring also helps add to her muscles. She can stir for several minutes and feel as though nothing had happened.

Her facial hair is cut short to keep out of the food. Though it doesn't have length, it is quite thick and covers her chin. The hair on the top of her head seems to be receding though it is still as full as her beard, her forehead just seems a bit larger than other dwarfs. The hair falls down a few nailsbreadths below her shoulders. Her hazel eyes dash about trying to take every detail in at once. When her smile extends wide, some crooked teeth are flashed.

Clothing: Galein doesn't need warm very warm clothing, due to the breath and natural heat from all the people in Tyr Donian combining and keeping the city warm. She has 2 sets of brown short sleeved shirts and 2 navy blue pants. She also has her apron on during most of the day to prevent her clothing from being splattered on.

Personality: Galein has a personality that suits her job. When you work with people for your living you have to be kind and courteous. Though, if a customer were rude to her, she might say something in ThergerimTaal to the other dwarfs. If the person would ask what she just said, her excuse would be that she had said something about bringing another drink or salt. She wouldn't do anything to discourage the customer from buying something.

She tolerates the other races well and especially likes Brownies. They too, have to deal with their size, more so even than a dwarf. Galein thus respects Brownies highly. She doesn't like the other races as much because she has to look up to see their faces. Galein doesn't like heights and looking up sometimes makes her dizzy.

If a fight breaks out she has to send for some security from Tyr Donian. Hragnúr has some training in combat though can be overwelmed if there are to many, so she has to rely on the security and what good-hearted people there happens to be in the tavern. Most of the time fights are just verbal ones but if it turns into a real fight she hopes that some of the patrons will step in and split them up. She will try to stop verbal fights quickly, just so she doesn't have to go and get the dwarven forces to split the fight.

She has a good sense of humor and often makes jokes with the patrons and her family and friends. She often gets people laughing at the tavern and gets people in a good mood. Good moods means more drinks, more drinks means more money! The jokes are sometimes directed towards the patrons but are said jokingly and if Galein thinks she has hurt the patrons feeling she will explain that it was a joke and apologize. Maybe even give them a free drink if they seem really hurt by the joke.

Galein enjoys animals, as long as they don't cause trouble. Every animal that would normally be able to go inside is welcomed in the tavern, as long as they are well behaved. All the other animals that don't fit, stay out in the stable. Food scraps are always available if the patron wishes the pet to eat the scraps.

Along with animals, Galein likes children. The way they act makes her feel young or makes her remember how she acted. Children also bring their need for sweets, which means desserts are bought. Desserts mean more money for the workers to split.

Galein seems easy going and will go along with anything. She does, however, have to keep the tavern in order, however much she would like to just go along with everything. She will try to keep fun rolling, though also trying to keep it from getting out of hand.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths
-Cooks well:  Receives compliments and sometimes a rather large tip for her cooking. Most of the recipes she knows,s he has either made herself or learned from her mother.
-Tolerance: Galein can tolerate other races enough that the person would seem more welcome at her tavern, rather than the other taverns. She is friendly to all the races, unless that particular elf is causing trouble or other such things.
-ThergerimTaal: Galein is able to speak ThergerimTaal which can help her hide important information or rude comments from a customer. It also sometimes seems easier to say things in ThergerimTaal than Tharian.

Weaknesses
-Size: Galein is average height for a dwarf, but for any other races(except brownies, hobbits, and gnomes) this is short. She doesn't enjoy looking up at the taller races, it makes her dizzy and reminds her how small she is compared to them.
-Weight: Galein is out of shape so she can't travel distances or do a lot of work. [color=]It doesn't really matter much except when she has to go into town to get supplies or security.
-Heights: When looking upward she sometimes finds herself dizzy or lightheaded. She has never been fond of heights, but it has seems to get worse the older she gets.

History: As said above Galein's entire family for generations has been cooks. Recipes have been created and passed down from mother to all daughters they have. Her Grandmother had started a tavern just outside Tyr Donian and Galein's mother, Laghrin, worked under her and then eventually took over. This is the same thing Galein has done with her mother. First she helped her mother prepare things and then took over the tavern. Galein took over the tavern when her mother decided she was going to travel around Sarnovia to find new recipes and foods. Her mother now visits the tavern occasionally in between his travels.

Galein was born with 2 sisters, each a few minutes younger than her. This was a huge anamoly within the dwarven community and was celebrated greatly. The middle child was named Gadaser, and the youngest was named Gapad. Gapad took an interest in pastry and sweets, while Gadaser found interest in main courses. Galein enjoyed both of these things, and more. Her favorite is form of cooking is baking, but she does this as much as she does all the other parts.

At an early age, around 15, the three 'Ga's' (as they called themselves) were introduced to cooking. They were shown various foods, and were asked to help with simple things. As they got older they were asked to do more important things, like put stuff in the oven and add ingredients to the harder dishes. When they were old enough to know how to read instructions and follow them, they were given recipes for foods that they thought would be fun to make. All the cooking was done in The Kann Kumruhnt.

At the age of 30, the 'Ga's' started to specialize into their different favorite cooking groups.  Gapad, went into more difficult pastries and desserts, while Gadaser went into learning difficult main meals. Galein went into baking and mastered it quickly. She then went into desserts and finished that. Then she went into main meals, after she finished that she went into other cooking methods. Now she can cook well at any type of food. By the time she was done learning all of this he was 60.

For ten years, Galein worked with her mother and brothers at The Kann Kumruhnt. Learning family recipes and creating her own all along the way. Some of these recipes that she made can be bought at the tavern. One such is the Goldsponge Cabbages. Cabbage sprinkled with Goldsponge pulps and Sulcho Mushrooms.

At age 73, Galein met a dwarf just a year or two older then her. She walked in right after Galein showed her mother a recipe that she had made. Her mother didn't think it looked appetizing nor did it follow common cooking rules. The dwarf walked up to the counter and her mother stopped and turned to the dwarf saying, "Yes, sorry about that, my daughter is a bit of an upstart, may I help you young master? My name is Laghrin, by the way, Laghrin UmwieWirrelinn."

The dwarf replied, "Actually, you can. My name is Hragnúr, and I have been looking somewhere to train as a Brewsmaster. When I saw that your tavern had no home brew I thought I could help you if you can help me."

Galein knew that her mother was looking for a Brewmaster. Her mother had been doing all the brewing at the tavern and was always busy taking care of that and helping cook. This would allow her mother to help Galein and her sisters with cooking and still have time to do other duties.

Her mother answered like Galein knew she would, "I have been looking for a brewmaster for some time now. I expect you to be diligent in your studies if I do take you on.” Laghrin glanced at Galein and then said smiling, “I have no time for a layabout apprentice. Galein is one too many layabouts for my likings.” She indicted to Galein and Hragnúr glanced at her for a second before dashing out the door. Galein could sense a great happiness coming from Hragnúr.

Her mother turned to her and said, “Go tell her to be here at dawn, before she gets to far away.”

Galein walked quickly out the door and told Hragnúr, “My mother says to be here at the crack of dawn.”  and then continued, “I look forward to seeing you around, tis' been a long time since I have company of my own age that isn't my sisters.”

Hragnúr worked hard at learning and soon could brew dwarven ale. Galein's mother left her to experiment, and try to find a home brew ale for The Kann Kumruhnt. Galein and Hragnúr became great friends and are still great friends today. Galein kept in touch with Hragnúr throughout her life and today are almost like sisters.

At age 89, Galein prepared for her Huregozar. She prepared her recently discovered Goldsponge Cabbage, which impressed the elders with the simplicity of the good tasting meal. After her Wirrut was deemed acceptable, she began to browse through the male dwarves work, with the other females. She was impressed by one dwarf who had carved his home very carefully. This was a mining dwarf by the name of TenDem.

She decided this was the dwarf she wanted to marry, and she did. They spent 11 years together, before a terrible accident occured. While in the mines, another miner unwittingly struck a weak spot in the mine shaft. The shaft crumbled onto several dwarfs, including TenDem. Of these several dwarves only 2 died, from a large rock falling upon them. One of those 2 was TenDem. Galein was overcome with sadness and quit cooking for a month. She never has quite be able tog et over it, but is able to bear it as long as she keeps busy.

At age 110 for Galein, Hragnúr finally came up with a home brew for the tavern. The home brew was added to the menu and became a big hit with the dwarfs and other races alike.

When Galein was 120, her mother decided to leave the tavern in Galein's hands and went to travel around and find new methods of cooking and new recipes. Galein took the tavern gladly and ran it like her mother did with only a few differences.

For 20 years Galein ran the tavern pulling enough profit for everyone that worked there to get a bit of extra money. Hragnúr and she started to fix up the tavern during this time. Putting new boards in the front so the tavern didn't look dilapidated, buying new furniture, and buying new tools. It took them a year but the 2 of them made it look nicer, though it didn't look like a carpenter had done it.

Another 20 years pasted without many interesting things occurring. But when Galein was 170, a dwarven mage came to to The Kenn Kumruhnt. This dwarf was named Thorgas Ironforge. At first Galein was a bit apprehensive toward Thorgas, he had never had a dwaren magic user in his tavern before. Eventually though, he started to like this dwarf and the dwarf needed a job. Thorgas was a portly dwarf and enjoyed food. He became a cook, and came up with many new recipes that can be found at the tavern. It is just an added thing that he is a fire mage, so his abilities are put to good use.

The 3 of them have been working in the tavern ever since. Galein would like to travel as her mother does, but she has no son to pass it on to. She could eventually pass it to one of her neices, but they will need to grow up first.

Your cd looks very well written and great. I would only suggest to explain your strengthes and weaknesses a bit. I didn't see too much as to why he has issues with heights, what caused it, and why he becomes dizzy when looking up. Aside from that he looks great to me, and good to go.

thx Kali and Argon.

@Kali, i was on a writing document so it sometiems changes automaticly and i don't like the squiggles much so i might have changed them to end the red squiggly things.

@Argon, i'll get to writing more with Strengths and Weaknesses, and i didn't really think you need a reason to be afraid of heights. You are just kinda born with it. and dwarfs are short so they aren't high off the ground so they don't know what heights are like without looking up really.

Try using a different Document program, if you are using Word. It sucks like that, changing your words for you.

Hey there! Just a few comments tonight, but nothing oh-so-serious:

1. Physical description! Yikes! I still don't know what this bloke looks like. Facial features, hair color, eye color. Does he have a beard? What's it like? Is he bald, does he have a giant mane or maybe he wears a ponytail all the time? Does he look friendly? Stern? If you saw this guy on the street, what would you think? (aside from maybe, "Holy cow, why is there a dwarf outside Zellers!?")

2. Personality! Same thing. You're writing this character to be a staple presence in a tavern and he will undoubtedly be interracting with most, if not all, characters that come through. Therefore, you need to make sure your personality section is complete for this task. Does he have a sense of humor? Is he good with people? Is he good with ladies? Does he hate kids? Will he let a dog in the tavern? Seemingly small things like this can add huge amounts of depth to your character and will help your fellow players get an idea of how to play and interact with him.

Luca's Final Thought Like I said, there is nothing glaringly wrong with the CD right now. It's just a little hollow. Details details details! Even the little things matter... sometimes more than the big things (a dwarf, of all people, should know this). Try to bring your character to life because a CD is the first thing people will read about him! That said, my approval will be fast coming. Big Grin
