Brownie, Llaoihrr

« on: May 27, 2008, 04:26:40 AM »

Name: Issalei Farsight

Gender: Female

Age: 30

Race: Llaoihrr Brownie

Tribe: Llaoihrr Brownie, Skydiver Clan

Height: 14 nailsbreadth high

Weight: Slightly less than 1 od

Eye color: Mist Grey

Hair color: Slate Grey

Occupation: Reconnaissance Scout

Title: The Far-Sighted

Overview: Issalei Farsight is a stoic Vale Brownie of the Skydiver Clan. She takes her job defending the Vale with utmost seriousness, often to the preclusion of everything else in her life with the notable exceptions of superbly brewed mead and her pride at stake in a Game of Four Houses. In that order. Recently her mother, her hero, her only unfailing confidante, vanished from the Vale. Issalei has vowed not to rest until she discovers the fate of Pyrra Bluebark.

Appearance: Issalei was born to a rather dark, could-pass-for-Ebony-in-the-right-light-if-you-weren't-looking-closely Greybark father and a Bluebark mother. Their daughter emerged from the womb a Greybark, but much lighter than her father. Her general skin tone is something akin to wet slate. She doesn't have to try very hard to be pretty, with her refined features, paler grey eyes and long, thick hair; a detriment when she strives only to be taken seriously at her work. Her figure is trim and sleek from long hours astride her mount and hard training with her clan mates. She measures at a very average 14 nailsbreadth.

Issalei wears her hair back for utility's sake; braids on either side of her head keep stray wisps tame and are then pulled back into a long tail on the back of her head. The only adornment she adds is a cluster of rich black feathers shed from her mount's wings, tied into the hair. Like most things to the Brownies, she believes they contain part of her mount's spirit and she feels that wearing them strengthens her bond to Twillee.

Clothing: Issalei believes that dressing well is a mark of respect towards her clan and profession and is rarely found looking anything but impeccable and with a care to her surroundings. If she is scouting at dusk, twilight or night-time, she wears greys and blacks. During the daytime, greens and browns grace her figure. Other times, she simply prefers unassuming black. Her wardrobe largely consists of soft, fitted mouse-skin leggings and tunics and tall boots. For warmth, she has a number of well-fashioned thick cloaks and overcoats. Unfortunately she was only able to take what she and Twillee could carry and most of her wardrobe was abandoned. She now has a change of tunic and breeches aside from the pair she is wearing, her most durable tall boots and a well-lined long coat og black-dyed mouse fur which helps keep her warm, serves as a bedroll on warmer nights and helps her blend in better with Twillee during flight.

The only jewellery she wears with regularity is a thin chain (one of her few gifts from her father) around her neck which has another smaller feather, a shard of Twillee's egg fashioned carefully into the shape of a bird and some other small beads and trinkets.

Personality: Issalei is a strong-minded woman with imperturbable patriotism to her clan and her people. Her whimsical, quixotic father was a fleeting presence in her life growing up which made Issalei even more determined to find stability and a sense of unconditional belonging. Her ability to remain steadfastly dedicated to being the best at what she does in the defence of the Vale relies heavily on the sense of camaraderie and loyalty she has with her clan mates. Immediately following her mother's dissappearance, this ability was sorely tested. Issalei found herself wholly conflicted and no small bit frightened over her own sudden lack of regard for her work and her clan mates with the all-consuming task of tracking down the only other person she would give her life for.

Over the course of her apprenticeship she has proven herself willing to step up to many a difficult situation, regardless of whether it is dangerous or frightening. Issalei could make a fine military leader someday, but her ties to her community seemed less important in the face of discovering what happened. The only twinge she felt upon leaving the Vale was regret that she wasn't more sorrowful to be turning her back on her whole life.

In general public, Issalei is a quiet, introspective presence who prefers to be observant rather than participatory. Outside her clan and now outside the Vale, she is often mistaken for pensive and aloof, a misjudgement she does little to correct. In the company of her fellow Skydivers, though, she is a completely different woman. When the day's work is completed and Twillee is taken care of, she enjoys relaxing to a pint or two with her comrades and has some talent for the Game of Four Houses. Not so anymore. If she stops on her journey, it is only to sleep and eat, and even those things she has found herself doing mid-flight.

As with most riders and their mounts, Issalei's deepest loyalty is to Twillee. She has been the captive-bred Corbie's keeper since the day she hatched and their deep, symbiotic bond reflects that. Having Twillee with her is possibly the only thing saving Issalei from becoming completely consumed by her quest.

Strengths:

  • Her personal merits aside, many of Issalei's most prominent strengths stem from and are dependant upon her partnership with Twillee. They truly are better together than they are apart. Issalei has very keen eyesight in all but the lowest of light. Combined with Twillee's own exceptional vision, carrion-bird senses and both of their naturally dark colorings, the pair make excellent low-light, inclement weather and night-time scouts.

  • Corbies are notoriously fast and agile in the air, performing acrobatics at breakneck speeds, and Twillee is no exception. Issalei and Twillee use this to its utmost ability in aerial combat, often gaining an advantage over larger, less manoeuvrable opponents. Land-locked combatants find it hard to aim accurately at the fast-moving pair. In battle, they are often assigned as diversionary fliers as keeping herself mounted with only a hand strap at that speed precludes the ability to fire weaponry.

Despite Twillee's fine training, Issalei must work twice as hard at keeping the Corbie focussed in aerial combat situations simply because she is not a bird of prey like many of the trained raptors in the militia's company. The pair train hard and often to strengthen and hone the applicable predatory instincts in Twillee that come naturally to many of the other pairs.

  • From a young age, Issalei proved herself quite bright. She learns extremely quickly and has a very sharp memory. Being detail-oriented by personality, this skill makes Issalei an ideal reconnaissance flyer, able to commit to memory many things at once. Issalei also has a very good ear for languages and is passably fluent in Tharian. This has helped her enormously since leaving the Vale.

  • Issalei has some skill in card games and games of chance and, if applied prudently, may be able to win money for herself here and there while on the road.

  • Issalei's size can serve as an advantage to her at times; she requires far less food than a larger person and is able to subsist on a wider variety of game (ie: mouse). It also allows her a degree of stealth which, when paired with her honed scouting/reconnaissance abilities, serve her well when she'd rather not be noticed.

  • Although it is generally only useful against people her own size or slightly larger, Issalei is trained to fight and is better than average at it.

  • While she never showed aptitude for typical Brownie weapons in her early training, necessity has renewed her need to be able to defend herself out in the world so she has been making use of a slingshot she managed to fashion herself. It is an ideal weapon for the currently nomadic woman as ammunition is readily available in the form of pebbles and needn't be stored up and carried on her person.

  • Issalei can sew well enough to patch her clothes and repair Twillee's harness.

Weaknesses:

  • As most Brownies eventually discover, their size is of considerable detriment to them when dealing with people outside the Vale. Issalei, in the short time since venturing outside her home territory, has been mistaken for both food and sport, and has considered the merits of hiring someone skilled in magic (or failing that, a torture rack) to stretch out her height just a little.

  • In light of her mother's dissappearance, Issalei has become less rational and definitely less predictable than your average person. She used to be very even-keeled and thought things out with admirable clarity but these days she is more likely to act rashly without a lick of thought towards the consequences. Out in the world where her global naivete already puts her at disadvantage, this could lead to unfortunate ends.

  • Issalei may be fluent enough in Tharian, but her speech is heavily accented. As such, she is often-times hard to make out when you add to the mix that her voice, even at a yell, is much smaller than the people she is dealing with. To make matters worse, Issalei is a naturally quiet speaker so this can lead to misunderstandings and awkward situations.

  • Issalei has no knowledge of growing or tending food, and despite her training not terribly much luck hunting so she must rely largely on Twillee's scavenging ability, foraging and what she can purchase to feed herself and Twillee.

  • Typical of most of her race, Issalei is generally mistrusting of the larger people. This prejudice has colored her dealings with people she has encountered outside the Vale, but for the time being, it seems like finding leads to what happened with her mother outweighs even her dislike of the "big oafs". Her words.

  • Her obsession with her quest rather consumes Issalei to the point where, aside from Twillee, she cares for very little else. If it weren't for Twillee, she would probably forget that she needs to do basic things like eat and sleep, and she refuses to be distracted.

History:

No one really knows what the pragmatic Pyrra Bluebark, an accomplished Ferretmaster and noted captive breeder saw in Eoorig Drummer. Whatever it was, she married the capricious singer and bore him their only child, Issalei. Eoorig, being a lauded vocalist and something of a ladies' man, held his art above all else and was largely absent during Issalei's formative years. That meant she spent the time before her Choosing Day in Pyrra's company. Issalei's mother had shown exceptional skill with handling animals and birds alike as a youth which blossomed into a career breeding fine mounts for the militia. All sorts of militia-bound mounts were born under Pyrra's care and occasionally the birds she bred as personal mounts were put into specialized training by the Skydiver Clan. It is from her mother that Issalei learned her respect and love for the animals instrumental to the Vale's well-being. She also developed her strong sense of self and the desire to be part of something bigger during these years.

When Issalei was just turning twelve, her mother took in a breeding pair of Corbies and after several unsuccessful matings, they produced a clutch two years later. It was from this clutch that Issalei's Twillee was hatched. There wasn't much call for Corbies as fighting mounts so Pyrra let Issalei handle the birds' upbringing. After a time, the two other younglings in the clutch were sold as curiosities and only Twillee was left. By then, Issalei and Twillee were bonded and the young Greybark began training her for mounted flight with Pyrra's guidance.

By the time Issalei turned fifteen and her Choosing Day was upon her, she had no doubts in her mind that she wanted to be a Skydiver and ride Twillee in the defence of the Vale. There was some hesitance over whether she could do this on the back of a non-predatory bird, but Issalei was determined. She passed the tests handily and became a Skydiver, to her mother's pride and her father's oblivion. Issalei proved herself a quick learner and a dedicated rider as she and Twillee kept on par with the rest of the apprentices. It meant hard training and constant reinforcement to instil in the Corbie the instincts that came naturally to the birds of prey, but the pair was equal to the task.

It became evident early on that Issalei had little aptitude for the weapons of her clan, but patient and knowing instructors took the time to discover her other strengths. Time showed the prudence of their patience - Issalei grew into an exceptional stealth scout. Her keen vision and the dark coloring she and Twillee share make them highly useful for scouting in conditions that may be less than hospitable.

Over the years of her apprenticeship, Issalei grew into a promising young Skydiver with many exciting prospects and opportunities awaiting her as a full-fledged Skydiver. She passed her tests on Naming Day (some with better results than others...) and went from Issalei Greybark to Issalei Farsight. Hey thirtieth year should have been one of great celebration and it was... for a few months.

Half a year after Issalei's graduation, her mother asked her to stop home and help her with the hatching of a new group of Corbies. Issalei arrived at the breeding pavilion owned by Pyrra to find everything in disarray, young animals loose from their enclosures, flying and running about chaotically. Even worse; Pyrra was nowhere to be found.  The ensuing days were a nightmare for the young Skydiver as she and many of her fellow Brownies frantically combed the length and breadth of the Vale in search of her mother. In the latter days of searching whe most had given up hope and ceased, even Twillee honing in on carrion was something. She would be devastated if her mother were dead, but it would at least be closure.

Days turned into weeks and nothing gave. Issalei began disregarding her duties in favor of casting a broader net. She and Twillee flew outside the Vale, sometimes not returning for days. The stellar reputation of this promising pair was tarnishing quickly with their inattention to their duties as a Skydiver pair. Finally, at the outside of a month later when most considered hope to be lost and ceased searching, her direct superiors gently but firmly told Issalei that her reputation was on the line. Something snapped in Issalei at that moment. what good was it being part of the militia if she couldn't even protect her own mother? What kind of society was this, she wondered, that refused to band with her to search ceaselessly, at all costs for a prominent, missing citizen. Issalei felt, however unreasonably, that all of her loyalty and defense of brownie society had been betrayed and the thought of staying sickened her. She had lost her mother, and now she had lost her faith in her people.

That very day, Issalei traded the majority of her mother's breeding stock to one of Pyrra's long-time Ferretmaster colleages for more portable items of value. She packed up what little she owned into a bundle managable for Twillee to carry and struck off from the Vale. The first human settlement she reached outside the Vale, Issalei traded everything could for more widely valuable currency that she could manage to carry on her person: gems. No one has seen her in the land of her people since. Most presume her dead. In truth, Issalei and Twillee have been travelling great spans of distance, ever searching for that most important piece of her family.

Issalei has given not a moment's thought to what she'll do after if her quest comes to an end one way or another; at this point in time, she frankly doesn't care. And that could be more dangerous than anything she'll face out in the wide world.

Weapons: Issalei has little proficiency with the usual weapons of her people aside from the slingshot which she has only recently attempted to use out of necessity to defend herself and Twillee, as well as to hunt. When faced with serious danger, she will flee rather than fight and avoids confrontation with the larger races at all costs. She is skilled at hand-to-hand combat (not much use to her against most of the outside world) and the use of her hunting knife (a gift from her mother upon her acceptance into the Skydiver clan), a generic thing that sees more action skinning mice for food than it does battle and blood. In truth, Issalei's sharpest weapon is her memory.

Belongings:

  • Light hand strap harness for Twillee
  • Compact sewing kit
  • Two sets of tunics and breeches, one to be worn, one spare
  • One pair of tall boots, worn at all times
  • Hunting Knife
  • Pack to carry belongings with hidden compartment for carrying gems in place of currency
  • Slingshot

Familiars: Twillee, an 16 year old Corbie. Twillee's training has been a long, hard road for both her and her rider due to her species' natural inclination to scavenge rather than hunt, but the pair have been bonded and working together so long that it has become easier to keep Twillee's attention where it should be during work. Other than that, Twillee's natural inclinations are a boon to the work the pair does - she is fast and agile in the air and tenaciously defends her position when she can't manoeuvre away.

The Corbie is in the prime of health, largely resulting from her diet of fresh raw meat rather than having to rely on scavenging from less savoury cuts in the wild. Her feathers are a rich, deep black and her appearance much more groomed than your average wildly-feathered Corbie thanks to Issalei's care.

The stormcrow has an intelligent expression and responds immediately to Issalei's commands. As with all birds trained by Brownies, Twillee is trained to respond to a distinctive call from Issalei. The pair's call is a long 'caw-caaaaw', close to the sounds Twillee naturally makes. With few Corbies in the Skydivers' service, there is little fear of it being mistaken by another bird, an advantage to the pair.

Just thought I'd say that I love your CD. You are a great writer, and it is exceedingly well researched. I find it hard to believe that a gem like this could come from a newbie, unless you are an older member in disguise. I've seen only a few things, but it looks almost ready to me. I am seriously getting a tingly feeling in my chest from reading this, and I feel inspired to actually work on some writings of my own. Thank you for doing such a great job.  :)

The main thing is that your character will need a reason for leaving the Vale, which might require you to increase her age *slightly.* No stories take place inside the vale, making it impossible for you to ever play her if she still lives there. So she will have to probably finish up her training, and then depart, and I sincerely hope that doesn't throw off the angle you were going for.

Secondly, the Strengths and Weaknesses are in comparison to the average human peasant. Therefore the lack of skills in weapons, a lot of time spent training, and the vocal commands aren't really weaknesses. The last one could be 'tweaked' so that the bird does things besides just not being controlled, such as being *dangerous,* though that doesn't seem to be quite the impression I got of your rather docile birdie. For Brownies, you can count size as a weakness, for example, or if she did not interact much with people outside of the vale after leaving, she could not be very good at speaking Tharian, the common language, though you would have to type with an accent, which can be hard.

Now lets end with a bit more compliments! I really think your practically ready for an approval, and the numerous references to Santharian things really makes my heart swell. I loved how you talked of a simple card game, as it really makes the character seem more 'real' as if they could actually exist, having passions and dislikes. Just for some extra tips with riding your birdie, one of my fellow mods, Rookie, the local Brownie expert compiled an entry on Llhaoihrr Riding Techniques, here! Thanks for making my day! I'm sure Rookie will check the Brownie references ASAP, though, she loves it when people use her race. Big Grin

Thank you very kindly, Eléyr! I'm a newbie to Santharia, but certainly not to roleplaying and character creation. I've RPed in Middle-Earth settings, as well as Anne McCaffrey's Pern for the better part of fifteen years and been a Mod for at least five RPGs in that time. I definitely like to see character sheets that are well researched and presented respectfully. :)

Your suggestions and comments are most helpful and I'll take them gratefully. It just goes to show that no matter how well you research, there's always room for improvement! I'll get to work on making some of those fixes right away. Your input is much appreciated and has given me some ideas about how to flesh out Issalei even more!

She's not wrong!  I'll be along to have a look as soon as possible!  Woooo Brownie!

Ok, that's enough exclamation marks for one day....possibly a week....

One small thing - unfortunatly you can't be a mix of Blue and Greybark.  You can be one or the other.  You could be a greyish Bluebark I suppose, but may I emphasise that "ish".  You should still be identifiable as a Bluebark.  It doesn't work the other way around though - you can't be a blueish Greybark, because Greybark occurs when the Brownie's natural colouring doesn't show up at all, it's not a colouring in itself. Kind of like albino in humans....but not quite.  Gah, complicated.

Thanks for the speedy input, Rookie! I'm looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on Issalei. :)

I think I must have misconstrued the bit on the genetics of Brownie coloring. I was going by the bit that said the child will land somewhere between the parents' coloring, but I evidently missed the part about the grey not being a color, but a lack of, so to speak. I'll get right on fixing that up!

ANy other insights you could offer would be most appreciated!

No problem :).  I'm here to point people in the right direction.  And when people are lovely and friendly and willing and read stuff...why, tis a pleasure!

Hmm, I'll have a look and see if I can find out something on Corbies lifespans for you....

Bump - first revisions completed. Please comment! Suggestions on improvements are always, always welcomed and helpful!

I could especially use thoughts and input on Issalei's weaknesses. I'm having trouble coming up with them as compared to an anverage peasant. I can think of a ton that apply to her as compared to other Brownies, other Skydivers, other women, even, but that's not what the sheet is looking for, and I want her to be as well-rounded and interesting as possible. Thanks in advance!

I'm not quite sure I understand.  If something gives her a disadvantage compared to other women, surely it gives her a disadvantage compared to most people?  And some of the ones compared to Brownies and Skydivers too?

Despite Twillee's fine training, Issalei must work twice as hard at keeping the Corbie focussed in aerial combat situations simply because she is not a bird of prey like many of the trained raptors in the militia's company. The pair train hard and often to strengthen and hone the applicable predatory instincts in Twillee that come naturally to many of the other pairs.

That and mention of being reliant on verbal commands for Twillee were originally listed as disadvantages (as compared to other Skydivers), for example, as well as her lack of skill with the usual weapons of her people (as compared to other Brownies), but don't necessarily apply when compared to your average peasant.

Ok, you're right  ;)

But you can at least add the bird one into her second bird-strength, to show that this has limitations and is not as great a strength as it could be.  That way it's still in there :).

Yay! It's Brownie day in Santharia.  :D

Excellent CD, Issalei. I found little to no issues with it.

 - Nice history. I like the reasons for Issalei leaving the Vale. To find her vanished mother. Makes me wish I thought of that one...

 - I almost used the Corbie as a mount when I was making Ghaji. They are neat birds, all black and quite intelligent too.

 - Can we assume Pyrra bred my own fox mount, Ghaji?  LOL

 - The hunting and Tharian weaknesses I am unsure about...it is traditional to have knowledge of Tharian as a strength as it is a language not commonly known/spoken among the Brownies (except the Babbler clan). But, you'll get differing opinions on that one. Also, the lack of hunting ability may not work either...as most peasants don't know how to hunt either...again, you'll get differing opinions on that too.

Overall, though, let me welcome you to the Brownie Club!  :D

Sure! I love the sense of continuity that brings!

Issalei's knowledge of Tharian is listed as a strength - her voice and way of speaking are listed as weaknesses. :)

I'm going on the assumption that all peasants aren't farmers. ;)

First of all, there was an answer to Rookie's question about the Corbie bird by the person who has written the entry: 'up to 40 years', with apologies that lifespan wasn't in the entry ;) Next on the list: I'll give you a uri-check. Comments will be in lovely teal

Name: Issalei Farsight

Gender: Female

Age: 30

Race: Llaoihrr Brownie

Tribe: Llaoihrr Brownie, Skydiver Clan

Height: 14 nailsbreadth high

Weight: Slightly less than 1 od

Eye color: Mist Grey

Hair color: Slate Grey

Occupation: Reconnaissance Scout

Title: The Far-Sighted

Overview: Issalei Farsight is a stoic Vale Brownie of the Skydiver Clan. She takes her job defending the Vale with utmost seriousness, often to the preclusion of everything else in her life with the notable exceptions of superbly brewed ale and her pride at stake in a Game of Four Houses.

She measures at 14 nailsbreadth, short as Brownies go. Actually, pretty average as Brownies go ;)

I'm assuming here she's travelling (looking for her mom, you said), so does she have all these clothes you name with her? If so, where does she keep them?

The only jewellery she wears with regularity is a thin chain around her neck which has another smaller feather, a shard of Twillee's egg fashioned carefully into the shape of a bird and some other small pendants.

Issalei could make a fine military leader someday, but Issalei's her (you don't have to use her name too often ^.^ ties to her community seemed less important in the face of discovering what happened. The only twinge she felt upon leaving the Vale was regret that she wasn't more sorrowful to be turning her back on her whole life.

In general public, Issalei is a quiet, introspective presence who prefers to be observant rather than participatory. She is commonly mistaken outside her clan, and now outside the Vale, for pensive and aloof, a misjudgement she does little to correct. For clarity's sake, I'd change the word order a bit: 'Outside her clan, and now outside the Vale, she is commonly mistaken (etc).' In the company of her fellow Skydivers, though, she is a completely different woman.

This obsession with her quest is something you could use as a weakness.

Strengths:

Her personal merits aside, many of Issalei's most prominent strengths stem from and are dependant upon her partnership with Twillee. They truly are better together than they are apart. Issalei has very keen eyesight in all but the lowest of light. Combined with Twillee's own exceptional vision, carrion-bird senses and both of their naturally dark colorings, the pair make excellent low-light, inclement weather and night-time scouts.

Corbies are notoriously fast and agile in the air, performing acrobatics at breakneck speeds, and Twillee is no exception.

From a young age, Issalei proved herself quite bright.

Issalei has some skill in card games and games of chance and, if applied prudently, may be able to win money for herself here and there while on the road.

Being a Skydiver, you must have learned a weapon, which should be listed under your strengths. Also her size can be an advantage - she doesn't need to eat as much, she can slip through unnoticed where anything/one bigger will be seen, etc.

Weaknesses:

As most Brownies eventually discover, their size is of considerable detriment to them when dealing with people outside the Vale. Issalei, in the short time since venturing outside her home territory, has been mistaken for both food and sport, and has considered the merits of hiring someone skilled in magic (or failing that, a torture rack) to stretch out her height just a little.

In light of her mother's dissappearance, Issalei has become less rational and definitely less predictable than your average person. She used to be very even-keeled and thought things out with admirable clarity but these days she is more likely to act rashly without a lick of thought towards the consequences. Out in the world where her global naivete already puts her at disadvantage, this could lead to unfortunate ends. Her 'global naivete' could be a disadvantage as well.

Issalei may be fluent enough in Tharian, but her speech is heavily accented. As such, she is often-times hard to make out when you add to the mix that her voice, even at a yell, is much smaller than the people she is dealing with. To make matters worse, Issalei is a naturally quiet speaker so this can lead to misunderstandings and awkward situations.

Issalei has no knowledge of growing or tending food, and not terribly much skill hunting so she must rely largely on Twillee's scavenging ability, foraging and what she can purchase to feed herself and Twillee.

Typical of most of her race, Issalei is generally mistrusting of the larger people. This prejudice has colored her dealings with people she has encountered outside the Vale, but for the time being, it seems like finding leads to what happened with her mother outweighs even her dislike of the "big oafs". Her words.

Issalei's mother had shown exceptional skill with handling animals as a youth which blossomed into a career breeding fine mounts for the militia. Everything from hawks and falcons to ferrets, foxes and owls, were born under Pyrra's care. It is from her mother that Issalei learned her respect and love for the animals instrumental to the Vale's well-being. She also developed her strong sense of self and the desire to be part of something bigger during these years.

When Issalei was just turning twelve, her mother acquired a breeding pair of Corbies and after several unsuccessful matings, they produced a clutch two years later.

It became evident early on that Issalei had little aptitude for the weapons of her clan, but patient and knowing instructors took the time to discover her strengths. Time showed the prudence of their patience - Issalei grew into an exceptional stealth scout. Her keen vision and the dark coloring she and Twillee share make them highly useful for scouting in conditions that may be less than hospitable. Oh, right, so she's not very good at fighting... but even a little bit of skill can be considered a strength :) (not a very great one of course, if she really has so little aptitude)

Over the years of her apprenticeship, Issalei grew into a promising young Skydiver with many exciting prospects and opportunities awaiting her as a full-fledged Skydiver. She passed her tests on Namng Day with flying colors, so to speak, and went from Issalei Greybark to Issalei Farsight.

The ensuing days were a nightmare for the young Skydiver as she frantically combed the length and breadth of the Vale in search of her mother. In the latter days of searching, even Twillee honing in on carrion was something.

Finally, at the outside of a month later, her direct superiors gently but firmly told Issalei that her reputation was on the line. Something snapped in Issalei at that moment. what good was it being part of the militia if she couldn't even protect her own mother? What kind of society was this that refused to band with her to search for a prominent, missing citizen. Issalei felt, however unreasonably, that all of her loyalty and defense of brownie society had been betrayed and the thought of staying sickened her. She had lost her mother, and now she had lost her faith in her people. Hmm... This doesn't sound very... uhm... 'brownie-ish', if that makes sense. They'd have at least organised some kind of search, I think. I'll talk with Rookie about it though.

That very day, Issalei sold the majority of her mother's breeding stock to one of Pyrra's long-time Ferretmaster colleages and resolved to use the money to finance a search. She packed up what little she owned into a bundle managable for Twillee to carry and struck off from the Vale.

Weapons: Issalei has little proficiency with the usual weapons of her people. She is skilled at hand-to-hand combat Not much use for a Brownie the size of your hand, is it? and the use of her hunting knife, Where did she get this? Iron is rather rare in the Vale, so it might be worth mentioning in her history (they do have it, but not much of it ;)) a generic thing that sees more action cutting away brush and undergrowth than it does battle and blood. Why cut away brush and undergrowth if you can fly over it? In truth, Issalei's sharpest weapon is her memory.

Belongings:

Light hand strap harness for Twillee
Cleaning supplies for harness
Assorted clothes, mostly mouse skin
Two pairs of tall boots
Boot Knife
Hunting Knife
Coin purse For Brownie coins? Remember that Tharian coins wouldn't be able to fit into anything she could carry.
Assorted jewellery

Familiars: Twillee, an *16 year old Corbie.

Ok! This is looking good, you have an interesting character. She should talk to Tulpje some time... Who is a Greybark... part of the Skydiver clan... ;) (She also happens to be one of my characters). Or else Roosje, who is a Ferretmaster, she might know Pyrra ;) Anyway! When you've taken care of these small issues I've raised, I think you should be close to an approval already. That deserves a hearty congratulations, not many new players arrive at an approval this quickly.

First of all, there was an answer to Rookie's question about the Corbie bird by the person who has written the entry: 'up to 40 years', with apologies that lifespan wasn't in the entry ;)[/color]

Brilliant, thank you! Also, my thanks for your input. I'll get to work on making the changes! Most of them simply seem to require clarification on my part. :)

Also, a question: is there something else of manageable size that Issalei may have converted her brownie coins into for portable funds?
