Frozen Darkness: Important Information

Table of Contents
1) Important Places

3) Minor NPCs

10 Commandments of Role Playing
1. Thou shalt not play God
2. Thou shalt not solve all the problems of the universe all by yourself.
3. Thou shalt add details to your writing to keep it from being boring.
4. Thou shalt be true to the character of your character.
5. Thou shalt make sense.
6. Thou shalt not kill other characters or decide what damage they get.
7. Thou shalt be patient for other characters to post.
8. THOU SHALT NOT WRITE IN ALL CAPS AS IT IS HIGHLY ANNOYING.
9. Tho shlt nat us fels spillin n gremmmer.
10. Thou shalt not decide thy neighbor’s actions, or his wife's actions, or his ox's actions....

As a general rule of the players in Frozen Darkness, there is a minimum post length. The post window that we enter our post into would be sufficient length for a minimal post. This will force us all to try just that much harder to make this an enjoyable experience for every player. Thanks for your cooperation, we are all capable of posts of this length.

In addition, please try and keep your character active. If you're going to be absent for more than a week, post in the appropriate thread to let us know, or you will be removed from the story.

Moving From One Thread to Another
It is imperative for all players and NPC's to announce in a small OOC at the end of your post what thread you are moving too if it is a different thread from the one you are in now.

Why? I believe it is obvious, however for those who do not, it is so that when others are reading your posts in one thread and all of a sudden you disappear and in your last post never said anything about going to another part of the city (thread) then the person reading your posts have to go searching through all of the threads to find out where you are and that can be very confusing, if not irritating.

So please people if you are going to move from one thread to another just a quick OOC at the bottom of your post would be a great help.

Basic Story Outline
13 years ago, the city of Remusiat was under siege by Orcs. This is the story of the siege, and of the political turmoil going on at the time. King Araman is dealing with the orcs, as well as a delegation from Ximax who are hoping to change the Remusian views on magic, but a trial has just started that is putting a mage in the spotlight, and if he loses, he will be burned as a heretic. Meanwhile, the nobles are pushing for more economic trade with the south, while the people are vying for isolationism. Lastly, the new Church of Kor'och is desperately trying to hold onto its new found power with the King, while the shaman's of the old Ice Tribe gods are fighting to keep their faith alive. All of this is coming to a climax as the Orcs try to breach the walls and destroy the only modern city in the north. More detail to come...

** For those who will have questions about the time period: If your character is old enough, you may play them thirteen years younger in this storyline. However, if you prefer, since this is an alternate storyline, your character can stay the same as they are now. Players' choice, really.

**Also, be aware you'll need reason for being in Remusiat. It's not a city you can just stroll into, especially during a time of war. Think through why your character would be in Remusiat at this time!

Here is the layout for the Wison's Breath Inn:

Important Places

     - The Harbour: Remusiat is built on a hillside, and therefore the coastline rises sharply at the western edge of the city, while the eastern side is readily accessible to the Bay of Calinth. The harbour stands right where the coastline rises, thus can only be gained from the eastern side. The Western Gate overlooks the harbour on the western side. The harbour is built of stone blocks, which are set upon rocks that were dumped there by hand until it could form the foundation.

This harbour is only open during the summer months, when the ice has broken. At this time, it is a bustling center of trade as ships from southern Sarvonia are here to unload goods and reload with Remusian goods. Merchant ships are either preparing to leave, their holds filled with furs and fish, heading south. While others are newly arrived, ready to unload fruits and vegetables unable to be grown here. The harbour itself is large, to accommodate all the traffic that it needs to in the short Remusian summer.

One particularly different and interesting ship carries the Ximaxian delegates. There seems to be a strange bubble around that patch of the harbour, as workers subtly avoid the area.

     - The Frozen Wastes: The area outside of Remusiat is a barren wasteland. For the entire year, there is snow and ice, though to different degrees. In summer, there can be barren areas where the land peeks through, but in winter, it is completely covered in ice and snow. Zekar winds blowing from the north bring moisture filled air from the Bay of Calinth and deposit copious amounts of snow. There are some hills, and rocky outcroppings, but otherwise it is a featureless wasteland.

     - The Wison's Breath Inn: Warm, inviting; comfortable. The high ceilings of the Wison's Breath Inn give it a grandeur most regular taverns do not possess. Upon entering through the thick door, you immediately notice a roaring fire against the far wall to your right, flames climbing high, illuminating and warming the room. Dancing about the many tables and chairs, light flickers on and around the other patrons playfully. A shadow hangs over the bar directly ahead of you, catching your eye. Looking up, you notice a grand balcony overlooking the room. A staircase beside the bar leads upward, and if you were to follow it, upon reaching the landing a hallway of doors would greet you. A door beside the kitchen leads outdoors, and following it would lead you to the washroom, and you may catch a glimpse of the Innkeeper's quaint little home.

The inn's main area is made of stone, while some tapestries but mostly wison coats, hang along the wall to provide insulation from the cold. The tables are fashioned from stone as well, while the chairs are made from Carteloreen bone frames with stretched rawhide providing seat and back. Despite the coldness of all this stone, it is still a warm atmosphere.

     - Temple Of Kor’och: This imposing stone building is decorated with images to the god Kor’och. The main part of the temple is a place of worship, while in the back, is a place where the leader of the church lives, and where private meeting rooms are. Numerous wall sconces fill the great room with a reverential light.

     - The Town Hall: This is where all important town business is done. To this end, this is where the trial will be held for Geoffrey. It is divided into two parts. The front is filled with small desks for town administrators to do their business, while the large room in back is for trials and large meetings.

     - Tower of Drapt’na’at (The King's Residence): This tall tower, built on a large square base, is the Royal residence of King Araman. Captain Jorgan Alleda-fey-Launce is in charge here. He has a crack troop of guards that fall under his command and are of the utmost in loyalty. It is made of stone; marble and red granite. The private residence of the king is at the top of the tower. The Throne room and Council rooms are next, while the court and meeting halls are on the bottom floors. No one is allowed here without proper authorization. Those trying to enter without this are treated very strictly with.

     - The Western Gate: Looking at the monumental gate, swift winds blow off the coast, now so near you're wondering how they built a wall on the cliff. The defenses of the city are extensive and impressive. An angled wall surrounds the city, and even before that you see a thick stone wall, trenches, and other defensive measures. Knowing there must be even more fortifications on the inside, there is no wonder about your safety within the city of Remusiat.

     - Army Headquarters: Graviaro’s place of command. He directs his army from here.  Sometimes Araman comes here to oversee what the army is doing. Only official military personal are allowed here, and those with special permission.

     - The Southern Gate: An entirely unremarkable gate, it opens up to the South, which is entirely made up of unremarkable wastes. Nevertheless, a hard trek will get a determined traveller into the city through it.

     - Remusiat Town Square: This open area sits near the center of the city. To the north is the town hall, while to the south is the Wison's Breath Inn. Ice sculptures line the pathways of cobblestone, and low ice walls create a magical feeling of being in a labyrinth. It is a source of pride for the Remusian people, and has long been a place where young lovers go to stroll at night, when lanterns are hung alit on tall poles. Stone benches are placed in key locations, where people can sit and watch the activities. Sometimes, there are plays performed in the center of the plaza, or singers can be found entertaining the crowds.

Small merchant booths surround the plaza, where shrewd vendors hawk their wares shamelessly, intent on making a quick san. For this reason, city guards often patrol this area, to keep the small time thieves away.

     - The Boar's Beard: A dark, rank tavern near the harbour, the Boar's Beard sits crookedly and leaning from the oceanic winds. A stay at the Boar's Beard is considered a ditch effort for a good night's rest away from the rocking of a ship's hull. For those who wouldn't look further into the city for a place to offer, the accommodations at the Beard are adequate. A few broken chair legs, shards of shattered glass, and an occasional rodent's scurry never hurt a wandering sailor. Few higher class folk would venture here, nor would the tavern be recommended by many residing in the city of Remusiat. However, there always seems to be a light flow of clientele staggering in and out of the creaking threshold.

     - Cavalry Barracks: A three part building. The main stables are the largest part by far, and holds the cavalry's most important implement, their horses. Next to this, is the actual barracks for the bulk of the cavalry, where 300 men are housed. Attached to this is the officer barracks, much smaller with a small office at one end.

Major NPCs (Alphabetically by First Name)

     Name: Allemeddo Shendekkar-ohm-Arrock
     Age: 50
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
     Occupation: Advisor to the King
     Height: 1.5 peds
     Eyes: Cinnabrown
Hair: Elken Brown, changing swiftly to Ithild Grey
Description: Allemeddo is loyal to the crown. He sees the king’s frailties and hopes that the son can one day make right what the father is letting slip away. As a trustworthy adviser, Allemeddo is every part Remusian, and in love with his city. Allemeddo looks at Timeras with a fatherly love, and considers Araman a very close friend. His love for Remusiat is apparent, and he will serve his King with all he has.
Appearance: A salt and pepper beard covers his chin, his face worn with lines of age, but a youthful sparkle still fills his eyes. Allemeddo is built not too tall, but he is brawny, and russet colored hair hangs loosely about his face. Friendly, cinnabrown eyes are always calming; assessing. The wrinkles of age and toughness of the harsh weather are apparent on his body, even in examining the backs of his cracked, veiny hands. However, Allemeddo his a gentle, loving man, despite what age has wrought him.
Clothing: Allemeddo almost always wears his formal, embroidered attire. A Xazure tunic, embroidered along the neckline and at the cuffs, accompanied by brown breeches, are becoming on the old man. Matching Xazure robes create a majestic air the kind man deserves, and a kind of superiority to his stature -- even when standing next to the King. Only in privacy with his old friend will Allemeddo relax, dawning a simple gray tunic and breeches.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Alvyster Churin
     Age: 40
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Centoraurian
     Occupation: Ximaxian delegate
     Height: 1.8 peds
     Eyes: Sognastheen Green
     Hair: Yealm Beige
Description: A sly, mysterious person who keeps there true intentions well hidden. A mystifying man, Alvyster’s actions cannot be guessed at. This can be dangerous in a place where mages are hated and even feared. Confidence is key in the position Alvyster finds himself in, and he has every bit of confidence he needs. Sent to negotiate for what he wants, the man knows what he wants and will reach out and grab it at all costs. He is cold, much like Remusian weather, and will not show weakness, nor back down.
Appearance: Alvyster’s green eyes give an eerie look to his gaunt face in a city where his features differ so much from the native inhabitants. Tall and lean, clothed in gaudy robes, the man looks more frail than he truly is. Long, spidery fingers protrude from hands and arms where skin seems to be stretched too tight. His skin is fair, paler than most Remusian's, giving him a ghostly look as he stands among them.
Clothing: Thin boots stick out from extensive, floor-length white robes. Billowy and fluid, Alvyster's frame is well hidden amongst the cloth covering it. He is rarely seen in anything besides his robes, although due to the versatile climate in Ximax, he traveled prepared. Thick gloves cover his slim hands, and underneath his robes, a thick wool jerkin and breeches keeps his small frame warm.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Araman
     Age: 52
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
     Occupation: King of Remusiat
     Height: 1.8 peds
     Eyes: Xazure Blue
Hair: Eophran Brown, speckled with gray
Description: King Araman is a great soldier, but a horrible administrator. He is weak in this regard and as a result, his kingdom is beginning to crumble. A fighter by nature, Araman understands tactics, can make plans, and can help command and lead an army with ease, but his uses as a King are limited. Without his adviser, Araman may not make any decisions, or at least any good ones. Araman loves his son, the Prince, whole heartedly, but knows he still has much to learn. He has doubts in the young man when it comes to being a soldier, but hopes to see him prove his worth before his time on the throne comes.
Appearance: Araman's weathered features hint at his older age, the gray in his hair giving him a rugged look. A graying beard, cropped to frame his noble chin, covers his handsome face, his thin lips often pursed, but the crinkles around his eyes give him a youthful look when he smiles and laughs. His stocky stature, big calloused hands, and solid muscles for a man his age depict his lifetime as a soldier. Covering his body is a wasteland of scars, his old joints groan and ache with age, and his skin is beginning to wrinkle.
Clothing: Wearing a royal blue tunic and jerkin, belted at the waist, Araman looks regal in his noble attire. This he covers with a sizable fur cloak, long enough to cover down to the back of his calves, to shield from the winds seeming to constantly blow in from the sea. Calf-high boots cover his feet, always polished and making barely a sound as he walks. Although--just as most do--he prefers the comfortable, movable clothing, Araman can be seen moving about the city wearing full steel plate armor; His helm and breastplate polished, a shield bearing the Remusian crest on his right arm, and his long sword at his hip. Araman's helm and breastplate are encrusted with precious jewels, the likes of which only the Lord of Remusiat would own. His stunning display gives quite a contrast to the turmoil and withering state of the city.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Brem Surinaam
     Age: 35
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
Occupation: Zealot of the old gods
     Height: 1.9 peds
     Eyes: Eophran brown
     Hair: Eophran Brown
Description: Brem is deeply disturbed by the way the city has turned away from the old ways and the old gods. He is desperate to have the old gods made the true religion; desperate enough to do anything to see this happen. Despite his appearance, Brem's desperation causes a timid brutality to flare up inside him. Dishonesty is the least of his worries anymore. In rare occasions of relaxation, Brem will drink to his big heart's content, only then letting out pent up stress of day to day realities; also getting him into a bit of trouble.
Appearance: A tall, bulky man, Brem has an impressive stature for one so religious. A full beard and shoulder length locks surround a large nose, round cheeks, and deep-set brown eyes. His booming voice can be intimidating and commanding, and in his desperation it may be used to his advantage. Brem could be described as almost bear-like in structure, huge limbs making him look more like a warrior than a religious zealot.
Clothing: Tailored to fit his copious frame, Brem wears a forest green tunic under a brown jerkin, with a broad belt about his waist. Breeches follow his stump-like legs down to calf-high boots, covering gigantic feet.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Dahlen Kunvayle
     Age: 42
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
Occupation: Leader of the unhappy common people
     Height: 1.6 peds
     Eyes: Adlemirene Brown
     Hair: Nor'sidian (Black)
Description: Dahlen is loyal to the old ways and the old gods. He has lost faith in the king, and distrusts the nobles. It is only a matter of time before the only course of action left is to revolt. Dahlen is friendly and caring to his people, proud to be Remusian, but frustrated with the changes seeming to be forced upon them. Cold and wary towards most others, Dahlen is skeptical and easy to anger. Although he has a temper, Dahlen will respect those he loves, and is a very intelligent man.
Appearance: A short beard and mustache blanket his face, around full lips and a generally jovial visage. His brown eyes are friendly, but show distrust in almost everyone he meets. Curly black locks fall about his face, his high cheekbones bear dimples from an occasional smile. Dahlen is a sturdy working man, developed muscles cover his body, and he is ready to fight for what he and his people need.
Clothing: Dahlen wears plain Eophran brown clothes: loose tunic and breeches. Brown calf-high boots cover his feet, a belt at his waist carries a broad sword. A big fur coat keeps him warm and thick gloves cover his hands. He also has soft leather armor, and a large shield bearing the Remusian crest.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Graviaro Griffyn-fey-Grau
     Age: 36
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
     Occupation: Army General
     Height: 2 peds
     Eyes: Charcoal
     Hair: Nor’sidian (Black)
Description: Very loyal to his old friend the king. A big brusque man who is more used to barking commands than talking in quiet. He will protect his men, his city, and his King with his life for as long as he is able. Graviaro is kind and good-natured, with a big heart and a hope for the city of Remusiat. He trusts in his King, although he is a little skeptical of the Prince.
Appearance: Dark characteristics shroud a friendly, trustworthy man’s impeccable features. Clean shaven, Graviaro boasts high cheekbones, a wide friendly grin, and harsh eyes. A very large man, Graviaro is intimidating to be around. To top off his resplendent stature, Graviaro has an exorbitant, booming voice. To see him naked would be to see a plain of muscles, rolling easily over his body. Scars form ripples and crags over his flat muscles. As the army general Graviaro is strong, toned and courageous.
Clothing: Fully adorned for the Army General looks much like the King. Full steel plate armor covers his body, an impressive helm upon his head. A large, impressive broadsword hangs on one hip, and an axe on the other. He carries a large shield bearing the Remusian crest. His common clothing is simple, but eloquent and noteworthy. Eophran tunic and breeches hang loosely on his body, silver threads embroidered on the neckline. An Ithild jerkin and belt atop that, complimenting his dark hair and eyes. Soft, calf-high boots cover his feet, and a lengthy fur coat reaches almost to the ground behind him.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Horvahn Ottfyor
     Age: 32
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
Occupation: Grand Inquisitor of the Temple of Kor’och
     Height: 1.7 peds
     Eyes: Eophran Brown
     Hair: Nor’sidian (Black)
Description: A religious warrior, Horvahn hunts out the heretics and the witches for the Temple. He works directly for the High Priest. He is only motivated by his desire to please Kor’och and to do his bidding. This devilish desire leads him to desperation, greed, and hunger for more power. Hardly friendly, Horvahn is cold and treats anyone other than the High Priest as an underling.
Appearance: Tall, with a broad chest and shoulders, Horvahn has impressive stature. He looks almost elegant at times, but his features are so dark he has the ability to look quite evil. A deep, raspy voice finds its way from his mouth in barking commands, and his close-cropped black hair brings attention to a broad mouth stretched across his face below a bulbous nose. Small round eyes blink wildly when he speaks, and his head is always held high, leaving his long chin and neck exposed. Fair skinned, Horvahn leaves the impression of fragility upon anyone who sees him.
Clothing: As a religious warrior, Harvahn doesn't wear leather armor as the rest of the warriors, he wears instead fluid robes over plain, Ithilid tunic and breeches. His robes are more plain than the High Priests, but in a Karikrimson red, deep and majestic.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Jorgan Alleda-fey-Launce
     Age: 30
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
     Occupation: Captain of the Guards
     Height: 1.7 peds
     Eyes: Brown
     Hair: Elken Brown
Description: Jorgan is very loyal to the crown. The perfect officer in every respect, he young, dashing, and brave.  As captain of the guards, Jorgan is kind and fair with his men, and he cares about them deeply. A just man, Jorgan's actions are honest and noble. Any who know him would call him a good man, focused on his duty to the crown, his city, and his people. Jorgan considers his position of power a generous blessing, and does not act superior, but rather treats the men under him as equals and true friends.
Appearance: Jorgan is a youthful, handsome man. A large mouthed smile can be seen spread across his face, creating dimples pinched to perfection on his cheeks. His short brown hair falls in waves atop his head, across his forehead, and ends just above his friendly brown eyes. Jorgan's usual speaking voice is cool and smooth, and a powerful, barking order is almost frightening, but always heard and obeyed. Hardened muscles prove him well worth his title, as Captain of the Guards Jorgan is in good physical shape.
Clothing: Comfortably, when off duty, Jorgan wears a soft brown jerkin, belted at the waist, covered in a dark fur coat. Knee high boots cover his feet. When fully dressed and on duty -- the majority of the time -- Jorgan wears armor of chain mail and studded leather, hard and sturdy, but not as restricted as the full armor of the Prince and King. He can often be seen carrying a broadsword at his hip and a Remusian longbow across his back.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Rellech Arnevahr
     Age: 41
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
     Occupation: Leader of the Nobles
     Height: 1.8 peds
     Eyes: Adlemirene Brown
     Hair: Eophran Brown
Description: Rellech is loyal only to his wallet. He and the other nobles want to create an atmosphere that benefits them and their plans to “civilize” the country. Pushing to "modernize" Remusiat, Rellech continually squabbles with Dahlen among other traditionalists over opening trade, and making other important changes to their way of life. Parallel to the disturbances on the religious side of things, the fight for tradition causes Rellech to be more power-hungry than ever. An already wealthy noble, his eyes are green with greed for more, and seeing major change in the city is the only way he sees fit. Using his stature, Rellech has almost no conscious as to who he steps on on the way to the top.
Appearance: Shoulder length, wavy hair surrounds a face with a pointed nose and chin. Rellech is a handsome man, always dressed expensively and properly. He has a tendency to look down upon the commoners in Remusiat, for he believes they are too simple to understand the need for change that is upon them. Copper eyes flash at any disagreement, and the occasional wide, devilish grin spreads across his face. Rellech is of average height and lean build. Impeccable features adorn his person, and as such he almost gives off an aura of his own nobility.
Clothing: Showing off his wealth is something Rellech loves. Gnastheen green robes are bright, intricately embroidered with Korwyn gold thread, and shiny black knee-high boots cover his feet. A dark, very contrasting fur coat keeps him warm, as well as thick gloves also embroidered with designs. Even in less formal clothing, Rellech is dressed in fine, expensive, brightly colors tunics and jerkins.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Timeras
     Age: 23
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
     Occupation: Lord Prince of Remusiat
     Height: 1.7 peds
     Eyes: Xazure Blue
     Hair: Auburn
Description: Timeras, contrary to his father, is inexperienced in war, but has a mind for governing. He will make a good king, should he ever get the chance. As his time approaches, Timeras scrambles uncertainly under his father's watch, trying to stay confident, but occasionally crumbling under the pressure. He is, however, extremely intelligent and poised when politics and rule become the topic. Timeras admires his father, and as war approaches, he begins to gain a new respect for his skills on the battlefield.
Appearance: His lighter brown locks, falling to his shoulders, compliment the stubble peppered across his face. His youth is accented by his royal blue eyes, and Timeras has lean, sinewy muscles covering his body. Only a bit shorter than his father, Timeras resembles Araman closely, especially when he laughs. His voice is deep, and always steady. As with all Remusians, his skin is already weather-worn against the winds, his hands calloused and strong. Timeras has great potential as a soldier and a king.
Clothing: Timeras prefers the casual clothing of the upper-middle class of Remusiat above the gaudy robes and embroidered tunics of royalty. When comfortable, the young man will wear a loose-fitting tunic in red or brown, accompanied with brown breeches and calf-high boots. Similarly, instead of jewel riddled armor, Timeras wears plain bronze plate armor and a shield, and carries with him a broadsword. Upon his shield, however, can be seen the Remusian coat of arms, and although much more plain than his father, Timeras has an impressive aura about him when fully armored for battle.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

     Name: Xandreth Sallahd
     Age: 38
     Gender: Male
     Race: Human
     Tribe: Remusian
Occupation: High Priest of the Temple of Kor’och
     Height: 1.5 peds
     Eyes: Xazure Blue
     Hair: Adlemirene Brown
Description: Xandreth’s loyalty is to himself, and to the power that he now holds. He is willing to work in the shadows to ensure he keeps what he has. Some say he has even more power than the king. Friends in high and low places prove to serve him well and faithfully. He is very intelligent, and Xandreth can be manipulative. Xandreth is defensive, upholding himself and his closest trustees only.
Appearance: The High Priest tends to have a withering look, shorter than most of the warriors, and not as balky. His lips are a thin line set on a long face with low, sunken cheekbones and a pointed nose, but his eyes are wide and expressive. His light brown hair is cropped short, and his limbs are long and slender. A haughty air gives a while eyed look to Xandreth, his blue eyes catch easily at bouncing light.
Clothing: As a higher class citizen of Remusiat, Xandreth wears deep browns. A brown tunic, embroidered with gold thread at the cuffs, clings to his lean body. Soft gloves usually cover his long hands, and calf-high boots to his feet. Several gaudy rings adorn his fingers, and a long, impressive fur coat assures his warmth. However, when clothed to astound, radiant Aeruillin red robes prove to catch everyone's eye.
