Name: Raworaan Chesabaltt
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Race: Human
Tribe:
Kyranian
Occupation: Apprentice Merchant
Title: Smart Alec
Overview: Following the deaths of his parents in a fire, Raworaan was taken in by his uncle, Cyradin Lawabel. Exchanging the life of a farmer for that of a merchant was something done by Raworaan with great gusto, and the youth learnt to read, write and perform arithmatic, as well as other skills necessary for a successful merchant, provided his smart mouth doesn't get himself killed prior to the end of his adolescence.
Appearance
Height: 1 Ped, 1 Fore, 6 Nailsbreadths
Weight: 8 Hebs
Hair Colour: Eophran brown
Eye Colour: Sognastheen
Physical Appearance
At twelve, Raworaan is undergoing the changes that will transform him from the child he is into the man he will become. He is growing taller and more thickset and his voice is starting to deepen. His brown hair and green eyes are complemented by his freckled face and tanned skin. His eyes, chin, mouth and nose are all classically Kyranian; that is, he has a strong brow, high forehead and broad jaw.
Raworaan's former life as a farmer and current life as a merchant's apprentice have had the effect of giving the youth a tanned and weathered body. Muscles are in evidence on both his arms and legs, given his life of moving produce around on the farm, and more recently goods on and off the wain. When he was younger, Raworaan had an accident with a kyrattin when he startled it and it struck out at him with its hoof. The result of the accident is still clear in a bruise on his left leg. On occasions when he is not wearing a shirt, a birthmark can be seen on his torso, just above heart. This birthmark is a large purple splotch that looks somewhat like a star and is a distinguishing feature of the men on the paternal side of Raworaan's family, with Cyradin having a similar birthmark in the same place on his body.
Clothing
Raworaan tends to wear clothes that are blue and red in colour. As is the case with his uncle, Raworaan wears clothes that have a fine cut, yet are functional. He does not wear the frippary that one usually associates with merchants, instead he wears a shirt and pants. The length of these clothes is dependant on the time of year. During winter, these are long, while during summer they are short. As Raworaan is growing, these are often too big for him, and look rather baggy on the adolescent. For the impressionable youngster, this is a bad thing as looking good is turning out to be quite important to Raworaan.
To keep his clothing in place, Raworaan wears a belt around his waist. On Raworaan's feet, he wears a pair of good leather shoes bought for him by his uncle. As is the case with his clothes, these are slightly too big for him, allowing him to grow into them.
His uncle also bought him a red cape, a match of Cyradin's own cape. Raworaan quite enjoys wearing that cape, and takes great care of it. This cape is a constant companion to Raworaan during the cooler months, and also serves as advertising for their business ... as red ... and rabbits are two distinguishing marks of Cyr and Raw, the business owned and ran by Cyradin and Raworaan, which has had a name change from Lawabel and Sons.
When travelling, Raworaan follows his uncle's practice by wearing travel stained clothes. They are still made of good quality material, they are just older and have the wear and tear of travelling about them. All of his clothes are made of cotton, with the exception of his belt and shoes which are made of leather, and his cape which is apparently made of the fur of rabbits.
Personality
Raworaan is going through a lot of changes both physically and mentally at the moment, and he is struggling to find his own way in the world. He doesn't accept everything now in the same way he did when he was younger, and he instead questions things said by his uncle and openly laughs at things that don't make sense to him, or that he finds amusing. His sense of humour is not always appreciated by his uncle or others that are the focus of his comments. Raworaan doesn't mean to cause offence by his observations and comments, and is rather surprised to see the chaos that they have caused on occasions.
This adolescent is rather concerned about his appearance and isn't very pleased at the thought of having to wear baggy clothes that are too big for him. He understands why it is needed, but he isn't happy about it. He has expressed these thoughts with Cyradin from time to time, which has resulted in some disagreements and exchanges of angry words on occasions. This is balanced out by the cloak that Raworaan's uncle bought him. He loves that cloak, particularly as it a match for Cyradin's, and the pair of them wear their cloaks when they are on the official business of Cyr and Raw.
Raworaan still feels the deaths of his grandparents and his parents quite strongly and he is worried that somehow he was the cause of their deaths. He is also somewhat worried that his uncle will die soon, and that once again it would be his fault. While he is a loner by nature, the result of growing up the only child of farmers, and he doesn't really like large crowds, he does like being with family and close friends. His uncle Cyradin is both his only remaining relative and his closest friend. In the four years since Raworaan started living with his uncle, a young member of the Compendium from further south, Deklitch Hardin, has visited them, and despite the age gap between them, Raworaan finds he quite likes the slightly older youth.
As a result of his fondness for his uncle, Raworaan regularly checks on his uncle and makes sure he's back when he says he'll be back. If Cyradin isn't back on time, Raworaan goes out and looks for him. In the past, this has caused issues for them as his uncle expects Raworaan to remain where he was left.
As is the case with his uncle, Raworaan pays particular homage to Arvins as Lord of the Hunt, and along with Cyradin, observes the celebration of Eywing. The merchants purchase an offering to the Lord of the Hunt which they lay along with those offered by their fellow merchants and others from Naios. On the first day of spring, all the Kyranians of Naios gather to feast to the Hunt Lord.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- Sling: From a young age, Raworaan has been using the sling, ever since his father, Chesabaltt, taught him how to use it. He mainly uses it to catch small game and to hit targets. He in particular likes the taste of rabbit meat, and uses the sling to catch rabbits, particularly if they are unaware of his presence and if his uncle is not around. He can use it to hit an unmoving target at fifteen peds, and moving targets at ten peds. Raworaan would never use it against any of the races of Caelereth, however, unless he and his uncle were threatened first.
- The Three R's: Raworaan was taught to Read, wRite and perform aRithmatic by his uncle, Cyradin. Raworaan can only read and write Tharian. This skill allows Raworaan to be able to read signs and other things that would help him and his uncle in their roles as merchants. As Raworaan is still learning, he isn't very fast at either reading or writing, but given time and patience on his part, he eventually manages to read whatever it is that he puts his mind to. His skill in arithmatic allows him to quickly calculate prices and quantities either in his head or on paper, another useful skill for a budding merchant.
- Merchant: Raworaan is currently learning the skills of the merchant from his uncle. He knows how to set prices, negotiate fairly with others and the best places to purchase and sell goods. Raworaan is showing a flair for the acquisition and disposal of goods and services at a reasonable profit.
- Horseman: Raworaan is a competent rider and knows how to care for a horse. This is handy if he ever has the opportunity to ride a horse.
- Cyradin Lawabel: Cyradin is Raworaan's uncle, mentor and friend. When Raworaan's parents were killed, Cyradin took him with him, caring and providing for the boy. Cyradin also taught Raworaan how to read and write as well as the skills of the merchant. Finally, Cyradin takes Raworaan with him on his wain and horse so that the boy is never left alone to his own devices to get himself into trouble.
Weaknesses
- Just a kid: At twelve, Raworaan is still years away from being considered an adult by most around him. He is not allowed to take part in adult conversations. When he and his uncle spend the night in a tavern, he is only ever allowed to have something like milk, and never anything with alcohol in it. He is also expected to help out by washing dishes and doing other similar chores which he believes are 'beneath him'.
- Smart Mouth: Since he reached adolescence, the previously polite young boy developed a rather smart mouth and he seems unable to let anything happen without a commentary on it. Whether it is amusement at the appearance of female dwarf beards, a comment about a rather rotund individual, the dimmunitive height of a hobbit, mullog or Brownie or just a disagreement with something that his uncle said, Raworaan's smart mouth has caused trouble for him and his uncle in the past as individuals ridiculed by the youth don't always take too kindly to the comments made.
- Adolescence: Adolescence is something that all people go through, and it is said that the only good thing that comes out of it is that eventually everyone (or at least most people) grow out of it. At times, Raworaan feels ungainly and useless, as he tries to do things that is too much for him, especially when it comes to loading and unloading products from the wain. As he is constantly growing, he is in seemingly constant need of food and drink to keep up with his growing body. His need for this food and drink is a constant drain on his uncle's resources. Raworaan's growth spurts are also meaning that he grows out of clothes quickly, and so Cyradin has taken to getting his nephew clothes that are too big for the boy, which has its own problems as wearing large baggy clothes do not look stylish.
- Loner: Growing up as the only child of a pair of farmers meant that Raworaan had to find things to entertain himself and to keep himself occupied. He much prefers his own company, or the company of a few trusted companions than large crowds of people. Raworaan considers a group of any more than about ten to be a large crowd. In such groupings, Raworaan is unable to operate effectively, and enters an almost catatonic state.
- Worry over Family Deaths: Raworaan keenly feels the deaths of his parents and his grandparents. He worries that he was somehow the cause of their deaths and that he'll be the cause of his uncle's death as well. Raworaan is therefore very protective of his uncle, and doesn't particularly like to talk about the deaths of his other family members to either his uncle, acquaintences or strangers. On occasions when his uncle is out later than he said he would be, Raworaan has been known to go looking for him, which can cause his Cyradin anguish when he returns and is not at the campfire or in his bed.
- Self Defence Only: Whether it is fisticuffs or combat with his sling, Raworaan never seeks to start a fight. He will use them to help protect himself, his uncle and their belongings, but only after they've been attacked. This reticement could result in them being overwhelmed by a determined opponent.
History
Raworaan was the first and only child of Chesabaltt and Coranette and was born and raised on a farm south of the Steppe of Kruswik and between the cities of Naios and Caelum. This farm was previously owned by Coranette's parents, and they, together with Chesabaltt's father, Lawabel, lived out their final years here. They eventually died of natural causes. Raworaan felt their deaths keenly as he grew, though in time their memories faded somewhat, but never left him totally. Raworaan began to wonder if he was somehow the cause of their deaths.
Raworaan's father, Chesabaltt, spoke extensively of Raworaan's uncle, Cyradin, during Raworaan's formative years. As the lad grew, Chesabalt noted that the boy looked more and more like Cyradin. Of an evening, as Raworaan and his parents sat around their fire, Chesabaltt regaled his wife and son with stories about Cyradin. Raworaan longed to know his uncle, but Chesabaltt was unable to even advise his son if Cyradin was even alive, let alone where he was.
As Raworaan grew older, he grew stronger, and he developed the skills of the farmer. He helped with the herding of their kyrattin and other livestock, he collected eggs, he used a sling to fire stones at rabbits and unmoving targets, he developed a fondness for rabbit meat, he learnt to ride a horse and he brought in the small range of vegetables they grew. He was content with his life, but it was about to change, and change suddenly, when he reached the age of eight. Raworaan went wih his father to a nearby village to sell some of their produce and to collect some needed supplies for the farm when a merchant asked for directions to the local tavern. Raworaan offered to take him there, which the merchant accepted.
Raworaan told his father about the stranger, and when the merchant entered the common room, Chesabaltt introduced the merchant to Raworaan as his uncle, Cyradin. After exchanging greetings with his uncle, they talked until Cyradin asked about Raworaan's grandparents. Upset at being questioned about his dead grandparents, Raworaan left the inn, to come across a group of youths he attempted to befriend. The youths picked on Raworaan who was in turn protected by his uncle who also drove off the other youths. Raworaan proceeded to demonstrate just how good a shot he was with his slingshot, hitting each of five targets in turn.
Together with his father and uncle, Raworaan returned to the farm the next day, where Cyradin was greeted with great gusto by Coranette. Raworaan found himself drawn to his uncle, and wanted to spend time with him. Initially, the need around the farm was too great for Cyradin to take Raworaan off with him, but in time he was able to do so and Raworaan went with Cyradin when Cyradin had to get supplies for the farm.
After a few months, Cyradin decided he wanted a return to his old life, and Raworaan was caught. He wanted to learn more about being a merchant and how to read and write from his uncle, but he also wanted to help his parents. Ultimately, his desire to help his parents won out, but Raworaan rode off with his uncle to see him off.
After some time, the smell of fire reached them, and they turned, seeing fire. The size of the fire could only mean one thing ... the farm house was on fire. Raworaan and Cyradin made their way back, and Cyradin made to enter the burning farm house. Raworaan stopped him with words that spoke of a maturity beyond his eight summers, "Cyr, we can't save them. If you go in there, you'll die, and then, who will look after me?"
Raworaan's words stopped his uncle, and slowly they left the burning house. Cyradin's words to Raworaan's question ringing in his ears, "I will look after you, as though you were my son." Both man and boy left the farm house at that point and headed off towards Naios where Cyradin told Raworaan he had a house.
As the months passed, Raworaan and Cyradin took up residence in the merchant's building owned by Cyradin in Naios. Raworaan continued his studies and found he enjoyed learning to be a merchant more than he liked working on the farm. There were times when Cyradin seemed lost in thought, but on each occasion, Raworaan was able to draw him out of it. They had settled into a familiar pattern ... mornings were spent in learning to be a merchant and to read, write and count. Afternoons were spent putting the merchant skills into practice. Evenings were spent talking about the past and their plans for the future.
It is now four years later, and Raworaan is twelve, and going through his adolescence. The boy who had been so polite and eager to please was changing. He developed a smart mouth, commenting on everything and everyone that crossed his path, and causing problems for himself and his uncle. He is also growing rapidly, he seemed to be continuously hungry and there were times that it seemed to people that the youth was growing before their very eyes. To cope with it, Cyradin buys his nephews clothes that he'll grow into, which aren't always the best thing to do to a boy who is going through a time when thought processes, physical appearance and everything else about him is changing. Despite all of that, Raworaan is still very much in awe of his uncle, and thankful for all his uncle does for him. Raworaan still keeps an eye on his uncle. During recent times he got to wondering that maybe he was the cause of the deaths of his grandparents and his parents and he is terrified that Cyradin will die as well. Thus, Raworaan goes looking for his uncle if he hasn't returned to either their campsite, their shop or their house at an agreed on time.
Since living with his uncle in Naios, Raworaan has come to know a frequent visitor to their store in Naios, a young man named Deklitch Hardin. Although weary of the young man at first, Raworaan got to talking to him one day, and the friendliness of the young man, who revealed himself to be a researcher for the compendium, won the boy over. Deklitch quickly became Dek, Raworaan became Raw and Cyradin became Cyr when the three of them were together.
Cyr was pleased that his nephew had someone closer to his own age with whom to interact, and he felt comfortable in leaving his nephew in the presence of Dek while he went to deal with some of his own business. Together, Dek and Raw engaged in a variety of rough and not so rough games, and Raw has introduced Deklitch to some of the aspects of Kyranian culture that aren't always observed by outsiders. Raw also introduced Dek to Calitter 'Cali' Kanemir, owner of the 'Red King Inn' in Naios proper. One thing to note is that during their last encounter in Naios, Raw tried his smart tongue out on Dek. In Dek, he found someone who was unwilling to take the nonsense from the boy, and after a brief skuffle, Dek had Raw on the ground and promising not to talk to Dek in that way again, or Dek would leave and never come back. That had the desired effect, as the boy no longer disrespects Dek.
In more recent times, Raworaan and his uncle Cyradin travelled by boat to northern Sarvonia to meet with Dek in the elven settlement of Silven. This came after a prolonged period of Raw asking his uncle to take them there. Finally, Cyradin gave in to his nephew's demands and bought passage on a boat to Eight Winds Bay to meet the former Rover. It was a happy time for the three of them, but as months went on, Cyradin desired to return to their business, and the two of them returned to Naios.
At the present time, Raworaan is continuing to impress Cyradin with his business acumen and his ability to get a decent price for the objects that he sells, and the two of them can be found either in their house/shop in Naios or on the trading routes throughout Xaramon and other nearby provinces in Santharia. One day, Raworaan wants to visit Dek again in Northern Sarvonia and see the elves again and even take a boat out on the waters of Eight Winds Bay. For now, the adolescent boy is content to help his uncle with his work as a merchant.
Weapons
- Sling: Raworaan has a sling which he mainly uses for fun and to help catch food. Occasionally, it has been used by the boy to help protect his uncle and their belongings. It is a fairly simple design, with Raworaan using the two string variety. He particularly likes to use it to kill rabbits with it, an animal that he finds rather annoying, but quite tasty.
Belongings
- map of Xaramon province
- pack with dried foods and sealed water container
- pouch with small amount of money
- changes of clothes
- cape
- shoes
- pouch with the stones he uses for his sling
Familiars
Cyradin Lawabel
is Raworaan's uncle and the younger brother of Raworaan's father. Cyradin is teaching Raworaan the art of the merchant and is raising the boy as though he was his own.

Ok then, finally ready for comments, I believe.
- The wain is going under Cyradin's CD ... should I also include it here under Raworaan's?

- Self Defence Only: Whether it is fisticuffs or combat with his sling, Raworaan never seeks to start a fight. He will use them to help protect himself, his uncle and their belongings, but only after they've been attacked. This reticement could result in them being overwhelmed by a determined opponent.
Can't find anything wrong (except maybe the lack of rabbits
) so I'll give this a tentative "balanced".
HISTORY! Stab it with a fork!
Quote
Weapons
- Sling: Raworaan has a sling which he mainly uses for fun and to help catch food. Occasionally, it has been used by the boy to help protect his uncle and their belongings. It is a fairly simple design, with Raworaan using the two string variety.
What about getting rabbits with it?
Belongings
- map of Xaramon province
- pack with dried foods and sealed water container
- pouch with small amount of money
- changes of clothes
- cape
- shoes
- pouch with the stones he uses for his sling
In answer to your question, if the wain belongs to Cyradin with Cyradin it goes.
Nothing huge to bug you about. Except rabbits. I personally would find it amusing if Raworaan thought that rabbit was the most delicious food on earth. But that's just me. Same deal as with Cyradin. Hope someone looks at your daunting history.

H there Valan,
I think I've addressed your comments here now.
Any chance of another of the mods taking a look over my history?
