Foraste's House

Overview
Foraste owns a modest home in the Erpheronian style where he lives alone. The house's middle area has been covered over with dirt to form a hill over the roof, this gives warmth and protection during the wet winter months. The house has one floor and two nearby buildings a single hut nearby where food can be prepared away from the house; and a cluster of pens with the larger specimens Foraste brings back for further study

Location of the building
Foraste's home is located roughly four strals south of New Santhala, in southern Santharia. The house is in a dense wood, that is surrounding the major road leading north to the city. Many towns and villages are along the road as it is a major route of traffic to the capital. The house is at the end of a small trail that intersects the road. Most people would pass the trail by as it is not marked and not used often.

If Foraste is home he will usually put up some kind of marker at the entrance to the trail, such as a painted or carved rock. It takes fifteen minutes to reach the house from the road at a a slow pace. The trail has been cleared of rocks so that a small wheelbarrow or hand cart could be pushed up the trail.

Description

Outdoors:
At first glance Foraste's house is a small hill, but upon closer inspection you see multiple doors leading out of the side of the hill, like a hobbit dwelling. The front door sits exactly in the middle of the side of the hill closest to the path. The door frame is set within a green triangular wall, that extends from the hill about two peds. The frame of the wall goes another fore, creating a small porch with a roof. A pair of dirty boots and a straw mat sit on the porch, a sign of Foraste's futile attempt to keep his home vaguely clean. An entrance similar to the front one can be found on the other three sides of the hill.

The mound of dirt that is covering the house creates a rough oval, with the trail facing the long side the hill is thirty-five peds in length, fifteen peds in width, and three peds high. The hill itself is covered with various types of untrimmed grasses and wildflowers, a lone clay chimney sprouts from the hill. Six windows sit in the hill equal distances apart, three on each side of the door.

The yard around the hill is grassy, and dotted with various trees and plants that provide food or other useful commodities. When the path enters the clearing where the house is located it is lined with gravel. Which creates a stark trail through the verdant carpet and up to the front door. Several other paths wind through the clearing, all leading from the house to something in the yard.

On the left side of the clearing there is a large fenced area, that has been divided into eight different enclosures, each about four pens in area. These enclosures contain the larger animals that Foraste has caught or domesticated. The fences are made of wood and two peds high. Some of them have been covered in canvas to keep the occupants of the pen from escaping. Currently the pens hold two cows, a flock of chickens, one sow and six of her piglets, a goat and sheep in the same pen, a Grey fox, five common riccios, a grassland boar, and a foul tempered wood owl with clipped wings.

On the right side of the house there is a small brook running through the clearing, this is where Foraste gets his water and washes his clothes. A small hut is built next to the brook, it is a rough wooden building with a single hole in the roof. Inside the hut is a large fire made of green logs, over the fire various cuts of meat hang from the rafters. A medium size table dominates the far side of the hut, this is where any meat Foraste gets from hunting is salted and prepared for smoking. There is also a small vat in the hut, used for tanning leather. Foraste uses most of the money he earns for travel expenses and books, so he has to make any clothes that he needs using skins from animals found in the wild.

Around the back of the house the edge of the clearing is dotted with trees and bushes of varying sizes, most of them bear fruit or nuts that are edible.  A deck that is about six pallets in area is attached to the rear door, in the middle of the deck there is a fireplace surrounded by stools, this is where guests can be entertained in the summer. Another set of six windows are located on the back side of the hill.

Garden
The main feature behind the house is a large garden, that provides Foraste with most of his food year round. It is a hold in area and stretches through the clearing from end to end. The garden is planted with a plethora of vegetables, most of them hardy so they can survive being left unattended for a few weeks. Other plants with medicinal or magical uses are also planted in the garden. The crops are hand planted around spring each year and last the whole year, any remaining plants are preserved for the winter. Anything from Tuberroots to Canelvous herbs grow in the garden.  Foraste also grows spices like Khmeen and Pfpepper to disguise the taste of old meat on a long journey.

Indoors:
The front door opens onto a small entry room, to the immediate left of the door is a rack where wet cloaks can be hung. At the end of the room there is an opening that leads into the main room of the house. The main room of the house has three other doors leading to other sections of the house each at one side of the room. A large fireplace is built into the near right corner of the room, a crate full of wood sits next to it. The floor appears to be a conglomeration of wood types that was simply chosen because of where it was, the boards are of different color and grain, this same flooring covers all of the rest of the house.

A half-dozen chairs dot the room, along with two small tables that can be rearranged to make a larger table. On the left wall, there is a single rack that holds various bottles filled with old drinks and elixirs. On the far wall there is a small bookshelf with some various reference books and fictional works. The door in the far wall leads to another entryway, instead of cloak holders it contains various tools and seeds for gardening, along with some canvas sacks for holding produce. The door on the right side of the main room leads to the kitchen.

The main feature inside of the kitchen is the large clay fireplace on the left side of the room. Multiple pot holders hang from a bar in the wall above the fireplace, as do various spoons and cooking implements. On the other side of the room, a long table has been attached to the right wall, this is where food is prepared. Boxes with various cooking supplies like pots, bowls and pans are stored. A basin for washing dishes sits at the end of the counter. The exit at the end of this room is festooned with tubs and water skins for collecting water from the river. A door is located to the right of the fireplace, this leads down to the cellar below the house where all food is kept.

The door on the left of the main room leads to Foraste's Study and sleeping area. The door has been engraved with the Styrash rune zoúm, for home. The room is covered in shelves and cabinets, all around the wall, almost joined in most places. These shelves hold many books on any subject you could think of, as well as specimens of various plants and solutions. A shelf with carved designs on its sides holds every volume of the compendium, in the current an a few past editions. The shelf is located on the left wall an sits directly above a desk, the desk is covered in various journals and papers. These are the notes that Foraste has taken in his travels and experiments. A mortar, pestle and various other tools sit in a group of drawers built into the top of the desk. A hard wooden chair sits under the desk.To the left of the desk a small bed sits on the ground, a few papers have spilled onto it recently and the sheets appear not to have been cleaned in a month. Next to the head of the bed lies a hardwood chest containing the few things that Foraste holds dear.

Opposite the bed is a door to part of the cellar that has been walled off and converted to storage for various animals that have been caught by Foraste, the room is filled with small cages and pens, each holding their own small occupant. In the corner of the study, a small pile of animal furs mark Thad's sleeping area, he could stay anywhere in the house as he is given free room but prefers to sleep in the study where there is plenty of paper for bedding.

Let's see if a completed house draws any attention.

Yay! The first house to review ... let's see ... I'll comment on it in lime green for you, Foraste.

Foraste's House

Overview
Foraste owns a modest home in the Erpheronian style where he lives alone. The house's middle area has been covered over with dirt to form a hill over the roof, this gives insulation is insulation a suitable word for Santharia? and protection during the wet winter months. The house has one floor and two nearby buildings a single hut nearby where food can be prepared away from the house; and a cluster of pens with the larger specimens Foraste brings back for further study

Location of the building
Foraste's home is located roughly four strals south of New Santhala, in southern Santharia. The house is in a dense wood, south of New Santhala You mentioned the fact that it is south of New Santhala in the previous sentence, so maybe cut out 'south of New Santharia' from this sentence.that is surrounding the major road leading north to the city. Many towns and villages are along the road as it is a major route of traffic to the capital. The house is at the end of a small trail that intersects the road. Most people would pass the trail by as it is not marked and not used often.

Six windows sit in the hill equal distances apart, three on each side of the door.

The yard around the hill is grassy, and dotted with various trees and plants that provide food or other useful commodities. (the way it was worded sounded to me as though you were suggesting that only food and one other commodity was available from the trees and plants. I thought that maybe you were meaning commodities other than food there. When the path enters the clearing where the house is located it is lined with gravel, creating a stark trail through the verdant carpet and up to the front door. I believe this last sentence needs to be broken into two. I'd put a full stop/perio after gravel, and make creating create. Several other paths wind through the clearing, all leading from the house to something in the yard.

On the left side of the clearing there is a large fenced area, that has been divided into eight different enclosures, each about four pens in area. Your use of Santharian plants in this section is very good and clearly establishes it as being a part of Santharia.

Rudimentary blueprints added, please excuse the odd coloration, the original format had to be changed so this site could accept it.
