Shati Up- Healer/Herbalist (Maeverhim)

Name: Shatí’úp (Winged Wolf)
Gender: Male
Age: 54 (Appearance: 20.5, Knowledge/Training: 21)
Race: Elf
Tribe: Maeverhim
Occupation: Traveling healer out to see the world, also co-owns a herb shop in Barvados.
Title: Pacifistic Healer
Height: 2 peds, 1 fore
Weight: 1 pygge, 9 hebs, 1 hafeb, 4 ods, 6 mut
Appearance: Standing 2 peds and 1 fore Shatí is tall even for one of the Maeverhim. If you were to look at him you would see no distinguishing features from any other Maeverhim elf. He has the green eyes, black hair, and long black claw like fingernails that the Maeverhim are noted for. In fact his eyes even look dull compared to others. Close-up however, you can see the hint of a long silvery scar that runs from one side of his neck to the other.
Clothing: Shatí tends to wear light leather sandals and silk garments that don’t impede him on the road. His clothes tend to be white, tan, or dark brown shirts and pants that tend to be imbued with green vines.
Personality: Shatí abhors violence seeing it as foolish and destructive and those who use it frivolously little better than animals. Shatí will tolerate it but will not help or even associate with those who use it needlessly or on a massive scale. Shatí is constantly asking questions due to his curios nature and will never turn down a good story. Shatí is constantly on the move and can’t stand to stay in one place more than a few days. Shatí spends most of his time in forests collecting herbs but when he does enter cities he is very charitable and lends out his services as a healer for next to nothing to those who truly need them. Shatí does not follow any single religion instead putting his faith into the beauty of the world and the kindness of others. However, due to his heritage Shatí leans more towards Grothar than any other god.
Strengths:
-Herb Shop: Shatí is a coowner of a well renowned herb shop, and because of this he has a steady fllow of income upon which he can rely. It also allows him to avoid unfavorable people who dislike locals in the area surrounding Barvados.
-Friends of the Healer: Shatí is a healer of considerable talent, and is almost always willing to help for the lowest price possible. Because of this he has made a large amount of friends and allies which he can turn to when he is in a tough spot.
-Healing Knowledge: Shatí has a very complex understanding of medicinal herbs and their uses that can be very helpful when medical supplies are low. He can also use his skill in herbs to create many soothing tonics and potions that can heal or knock out a sick patient. To avoid violence he may slip something into the drink of those who are to rowdy or belligerent but does not normay do so uess circumstances require it.
-Languages: Shatí has picked up Tharian and can speak it fluently but with an accent. He can also read it haltingly but has difficulty writing it. This is also in addition to his native tounge of styrásh.
Weaknesses:
-Pacifist: Shatí is a pacifist and refuses to engage in any sort of violence except hunting, and even then with reluctance. He also refuses to speak to those who needlessly indulge in violence or who kill others for any other reason than self defense.
-Blind: Shatí is completely blind and tends to be pitied at best or discriminated at worst because of this fact. This also hinders him greatly when he is in highly populated or unfamiliar areas like cities where the motion of things is spontaneous and chaotic.
-Demons of the Past: Shatí refuses to talk about his past. If asked about he will avoid the question to the point of foolishness. If anything reminds him about the home he left behind he will take on a sad look and lock himself up for days at a time.
-EarthBurned: Shatí is EarthBurned and as such can't easily return to Sharadon Forest due to the dislike he would recieve. In fact the ony thing that would drive him to return there is if something were to happen to his brother.
History: Shatí’úp arrived in the Dream on the 31st day of Exhón’almár in the year 1,613 a.S.. He would never meet his mother, the wind magi Baianén'alýr, except in dreams and fantasies as she died shortly after giving birth to him. His father, Aelién’avásh, was doomed never to know about his wife’s death or his son’s birth due to his mysterious departure to Barvados half a year earlier. Instead Shatí would be raised by his brother Feníl until he could take care of himself.
Shatí was adventurous from a young age even with his blindness to inhibit him. However, being unable to pull off the “tree-hopping” required to thoroughly explore the forest Shatí instead spent the majority of his younger years questioning his brother and learning how to read and write as well as the arts of healing from his grandmother.
As soon as Shatí was able he began to thoroughly explore Sharadon Forest, sometimes disappearing for hours at a time and driving his brother mad with worry. Soon his questions turned from innocent questions about the forest to questions about the world beyond it. Finally his brother pulled Shatí aside saying that to touch the ground was to become EarthBurned like their father and that it was a fate he would not wish on anybody much less a blind man. Shatí was temporarily deterred but as his twenty-seventh birthday arrived Shatí once again found himself wondering about the world outside of Sharadon Forest.
Finally, unable to quench his curiosity any longer he descended in the darkness of night to walk upon the forest floor. It was one of the most magnificent moments in his life. Feeling the soft crunch of leaves beneath his naked feet he ran for hours through the forest until the sun began to touch the sky. Finally, exhausted, he returned to his bed only to be awoken an hour later by his brother. Seeing Shatí’s muddy feet his brother asked quietly what he had done. Shatí could not think of what to say so his brother beat him to it saying the words that still haunt Shatí today, “If it was anyone else dear brother, I would let the Rónn know, but to do that would be the same as killing my own brother. Choose now then, whether you value the land outside this forest more than your homeland and your brother’s love.” But his brother already knew the answer in his heart and as Shatí confirmed it he said, “You are already dead to me, yet I hope you somehow find the answers and happiness you sought but could not find here.” So it was that Shatí set out from his old life to create a new one.
Shatí arrived at Barvados a few days later tagging along with an herbalist named Rorrick Dalfen. Rorrick was returning from a trip to visit his sister in Marcogg when he found Shatí wandering around the Narfost Plain. The two quickly became inseparable friends and Rorrick soon offered Shatí a job as his assistant. Shatí agreed and was soon inducted into Rorrick’s apprenticeship.
For the next fifteen years Shatí ran Rorrick’s shop more and more as his friend finally began to retire.
Finally, on the 31st day of Efér’ypheró, Rorrick Dalfen passed away in his sleep. At the funeral Shatí met Rorrick’s sister Sanya for the first time and ended up giving a job as an assistant at Rorrick’s shop to her daughter Saura. Saura turned out to be quite a handful and an excellent worker. Thanks to Saura’s help the shop slowly gained a reputation over the next twenty years and soon they were getting requests from as far away as Chrondra. Shatí began to take over the financial aspects of the shop as Saura dealt with the customers.
However, much to Shatí’s surprise on Leith. Shatí was overjoyed to hear about his assistant’s good fortune. For the first time since its creation the herb shop was closed as Shatí attended Saura’s wedding in Marcogg. Soon after the wedding was finished Shatí announced he was officially recognizing Saura as a co-owner of his shop whilst he took a long needed vacation. Under these conditions Shatí set out to where he is today.

Hi and welcome to Santharia, Rorrick,
This looks like a great start you are making here, one thing you should change before you get too far along with your plans for your character is your display name/character name. Your display name (Rorrick Dalfen) should match your character name (Shati Up), as that makes it easier when it comes to stories to know who is posting what. Either Shati Up will need to change to Rorrick Dalfen or Rorrick Dalfen will need to change to Shati Up. You can change Rorrick Dalfen by going through Profile and then Account Settings, or one of those options in there, I keep on forgetting which one.
Just something else to consider ... we're looking for an answer to your question on being a White Druid. If it is possible, you might do what you can that doesn't involve the magic stuff until an answer can be given to you on that ... it shouldn't be too long, though it just depends on when the questions get asked/answered.
Keep on going though, your CD is looking good so far!

Hi Rorrick/Shati,
Welcome once again to Santharia.
I don't think you fully understood what I meant when I mentioned about your name in my last post here.
The name in the subject of this thread (Rorrick Dalfen) has to match your display name (Shati Up). At the moment they don't match. Please change either Rorrick Dalfen to Shati Up at the top of this thread OR change Shati Up in your Profile to Rorrick Dalfen.
Now, onto the actual CD ...
You've mentioned that he is a magic user, but I can't see where you've mentioned what level he is ... close to the top of your CD (possibly just under the occupation) put in something Like (Level ___ Wind Mage) ... so that we have some kind of idea how powerful he is.
Strengths/Weaknesses ... You'll need to include his ability to use Magic as a Strength ... that would also require at least one more weakness, I believe (maybe two).
You don't seem to have a Title in there as yet ... please put that in after your occupation.
Once you get your history sorted, people might be able to provide you with more hints regarding your CD ... but one thing I'd comment on at the moment, is that your history is really just a large block of text. Please break it up into paragraphs.
Hope that is of help to you,
Dek

You must have changed it after my request to you to change it, as they didn't match at that time. Thank you for doing that.
Edit: Looking at the relevant times, it would appear that's what happened. Your first entry in this thread was last edited by yourself as follows: « Last Edit: Today at 14:10:49 by Shatí Úp »
The time of my post in question was as follows: Posted on: Today at 13:45:50 Posted by: Deklitch Hardin.
Mine was posted approximately 25 minutes before your last update was completed and posted. When I posted mine, the two names were different, otherwise I wouldn't have asked you to change them.

Shatí Úp → Shatí'úp
Baianén Alýr → Báianen'alýr
Aelién Avásh → Áelien'avásh
Elves understand that all things return from whence they came as they progress through the cycles of the Dream. Death is seen as a part of life. Elves are unlikely to grieve in the way you have portrayed; elves would view such behaviors as ignorant, and very unwise.
Elves would not steal, unless they had really sound reason to. Most elves posses the qualities to take care of themselves.
Elves do not tend to exhibit the qualities of begging that you display here. Keep in mind that elves would learn magic in their forests--though it would not be Ximaxian magic exactly.

There! The newest batch of revisions are up and if anybody is wondering why I am using Shati when his name is shatí, it's because I don't know how to use that special character and have to copy and paste it from word. I would go back and fix it but every time I type something on the page the scroller shoots up to the top of it.

If you're on a normal keyboard, make sure num-lock is on, then hold the alt key and type in 161.

On laptops, you have to hit the function key first, before the alt and the numbers.

Name: Shatí'úp (Winged Wolf)
My advice to your is to cut and paste this particular piece of writing every where you want to use it, since it covers the whole using the words properly.
Gender: Male
Age: 100 (Age by appearance 23)
Race: Elf
Tribe: Maeverhim
Occupation: Traveling healer out to explore the world. Also owns a herb shop in the city of Bardavos. Also a Third level wind mage depending on who asks.
Title: Pacifistic Healer
Hair: Waist length black hair with streaks of blue.
Eye Color: Blue Green
Height: 2 peds, 1 fore (7 feet, 7 inches)
Weight: 1 pygge, 1 heb, 4 ods, 3 mutt (126 lb.)
You are starving. Eat more.
Appearance: Standing two peds and one fore high Shati is taller even then most Maeverhim. He is also very light weighted. He has smooth waist long black hair that he streaks with blue pigments. His eyes are blue put have a greenish tint towards them. He has an almost birdlike look to him due to his angular nose and long untrimmed black fingernails and toenails.
I've coloured this because it's been moved. Please try to keep things in the order they're meant to be. It makes things easier for everyone. Now to the real issue. You have a great lack of detail. Kind of like painting on a canvas and only using a tiny piece of corner. This isn't so much a picture as a poorly made cut out. Most of it is, I will add, seem to have been borrowed verbatim from the entry. Scars? Birthmarks? Do his ears stick out? Does he have crooked teeth? As far as I know, he doesn't even have arms or legs. Describe!
Clothing: Shati wears a loose white shirt with green vines painted on it. He also wears baggy black pants along with a necklace made of multicolored feathers.
He wears light loose garb made entirely from silk with no shoes or footwear of any kind.
I've flagged this section for two reasons. First: Silk is a wonderful, wonderful fabric. However because it is essentially respun insect cocoons it degrades in daylight, essentially rotting away. Wearing silk as travelling clothing is the least practical thing possible. Secondly, not wearing shoes. I would suggest that you find a nearby gravel road and try walking on it barefoot. Or go stand in some snow. Sandals would not be amiss (I'm aware that maeverhim don't wear shoes. They also live in trees and don't touch the ground, adaptations have to be made). Now. The other problem. You lack detail. Is this all he ever wears? He's left the Sharadon so he's got to deal with weather, inclement or not. That pale skin would burn fairly quickly I imagine and as most dark-haired folks will tell you, hats are their best friend when it comes to standing out in the sunlight. What is his clothing made of (and see the earlier comment about silk)? Painting on clothing isn't the most intelligent thing to do. Paints at this point would likely be oil based. They'd crack. The word you might be looking for is embroidered, which is a type of
very
fine sewing of patterns into the cloth.
Personality: Shati abhors violence but is prepared to protect himself.
Now, you say he is a pacifist (that's the title). A pacifist is by definition a person who does not fight. You can see my problem here
He rarely puts any forethought or planning into actions relying on luck and improvisation. He is constantly traveling and dislikes staying at one place for a period of more than three days. He is kind and compassionate and almost always willing to help someone in trouble. Aside from his occasional venture into a city or town, Rorrick
I thought his name was Shati'up
. spends most of his time in the wilderness where he collects herbs.
Strengths:
-Shati is a healer of considerable talent, and is almost always willing to help for the lowest price possible. Because of this he has made a large amount of friends and allies which he can turn to when he is in a tough spot.
-Shati has a very complex understanding of medicinal herbs and their uses that can be very helpfull when medical supllies are low. He can also use his skill in herbs to create many soothing tonics and potions that can heal the sick or knock out his enemies.
-Shati has a lot of powerfull magic he can use as a third level Wind Mage. Although he refuses to use it to harm aother living creature, he can still use it to icapacitate and hider his eemies.
Wait, hang on. "Shati abhors violence but is prepared to protect himself" so, you've got minor (MINOR) control over wind which is, in and of itself, not an insubstantial thing to beat the living shite out of someone with. But you won't use it to harm a
n
other living creature. So you protect yourself with your... what? Elegantly manicured finger and toenails? Again, it's a case of things not quite fitting together. hi
n
dering and i
n
capacitating is all well and good, but sometimes it isn't going to work. By the way, I think you have a faulty N key. Look into that.
Weaknesses:
-Shati is very pacifistic and never willingly starts a fight. He always seeks to defuse the situation or disarm
Ask someone who practices kung-fu or another martial art how they disarm a person. The way I learned it was that you kicked the heck out of their hand so that they dropped their weapon. Now "Although he refuses to use it to harm aother [sic] living creature" That sounds like harming someone. Try having someone disarm you of a kitchen knife or a stick. You'll get hurt.
his opponent rather than kill.
Because of this his combat skills are very rusty and mediocore.
This is not a weakness. All weaknesses are based against some sort of fictional farmer out in the middle of nowhere who picks potatoes for a living. He can't fight worth a rat's ass. That fact that you can fight is a strength. Why would a pacifist learn to fight in the first place?
-Shati is EarthBurned and can never return to Sharadon Forest. Because of this he tends to hide his presence from other elves and never willingly works with them for fear of further disgracing himself. He also is held in contempt by any Maeverhim elves he may meet.
Hey. Wait. Maeverhim inside the Sharadon are not Earthburned. Maeverhim outside of the Sharadon are Earthburned by default. They're not going to be happy, but they won't hold you in contempt for being the same thing they are. Strike that one.
SPACE
-Shati needs to be calm in order to cast his magic. This greatly hinders him in battle or when he is under mental stress.
Magic:
-Shati is talented if somewhat inexperienced in his use with magic. However,
Rorrick
never uses his magic to harm another living being, but rather to disarm or relax them. He prefers the spiritual aspect however preferring the aspects of the mind over physical aspects. To even attempt to perform any of his magic Shati must first be completely relaxed
-Shati can create and quell wind by increasing or decreasing the influence wind ounía found in the cár’áll of the air. He can also do this to the air in front of an object or person to knock them or it aside.
-Shati can decrease or increase the influence of the wind ounía in the cár’áll of the air surrounding a persons legs to either increase or decrease their speed.
-Shati can decrease the influence of wind ounía in a the cár’áll of a persons body to make them clumsy and sluggish and harder to conceal themselves. However, Rorrick must be aware of their presence in order to cast the spell.
-Shatí can scatter or allign the wind ounía in the cár’áll of a persons mind to either confuse them or help them focus. Likewise, he can perform the same actions to calm someone down or excite them.
I'm not a magic expert, but you'll want to work on this a bit more. Try taking a look at some of the approved magic CDs in the
archives
.
Shatí''úp was born in the year 1567 a.S. on the 31st day of Exhón’almár in a small elven village in the Sharadon Forest. His mother, the Wind Magi Baianén'alýr (Golden Rain), died in childbirth. His father, Aelién'avásh (White Wind), left his son with his bother Feníl (Cat), and in his grief left Sharadon Forest for the city of Bardavos.
Shatí spent most of his days in Sharadon forest exploring and learning how to fend for himself in the wild from his uncle. Shatí also spent much of his time exploring the bottom of Sharadon Forest when he was sure no one was watching him. When Shatí was nineteen he took a interest in Wind Magic after hearing various stories about his mother. He gleaned what information he could from his uncle but what he learned was not enough. Unfortananately the wind magi of his village refused to teach him fearing that they would bring shame to their names if they taught the son of a EarthBurned elf.
Finally, in 1588 a.S., when Shatí was twenty-one, a forest fire swept through the village and killed his uncle along with more than a dozen others. No longer having any thing to attach himself to Sharadon, he became EarthBurned and left for the city of Bardavos to look for his father. While he was their he spent his time earning money doing the odd job or two will keeping an eye out for his father well living on the rooftops avoiding local gangs of street urchins.
A year after he arrived in Bardavos, Shatí met the Wind Mage and healer Tharados Dalfen. Of course, “met” isn’t really the right word as Shatí was trying to steal from him. The Wind Mage quickly taught Shatí a lesson or two about trying to steal from magic users and then went on his way. That should have been that, except Shatí began to follow Tharados and insisted that he teach him magic. Tharados at first refused and left for the mercenary city of Mehmetsh on the western part of the Narfost Plain. Much to his annoyance, though, Shatí was always close behind and Tharados finally consented. Thus began Shatí’s education, if it can be called that, on Wind Magic.
For the next eighteen years Shatí traveled around the Brendolan Province of the Kingdom of Santharia with Tharados. Besides teaching him magic Tharados also taught Shatí the art of healing and herblore. When Shatí was forty years old he departed from Tharados, who had settled down in Bardavos, to head north to the city of Marcogg. He spent the next four years there building up a reputation as a skilled healer. On the fifth year, however, a messenger arrived from Bardavos, bearing a letter telling of his dear friends passing.
Shatí would arrive there only a month later, and upon arriving would find a shocking surprise. His mentor and friend had given the rights of his herb shop to him. For the next sixty years Shatí would remain in Bardavos, tending to his shop and helping those to poor to afford a decent healer. Along the way he picked up an apprentice, a Shendarian orphan girl named Mai. Growing restless once again, Shatí set out once more and left the shop in the care of Mai to head north yet again. He traveled for two years before finally settling down again in the village of Chrondra, where he healed travelers coming to and from Marcogg.
Shati fially left ad returned to Bardavos to check on Mai and the shop. Finding all inorder, Shati went out to make his mark on the world, and after three years of travelling evetually arrived at the city of Carmalad.
See Rayne's earlier comments about elves and stealing. Earthburned elves are weird. Functionally, you no longer exist to your people. It's a combination of self-imposed exile and shunning most of the time. Unless you were born on the ground, the rest of the tribe could care less whether or not your father was EarthBurned since you are not. Elves, at least the Maeverhim and most other tribes, are not humans. They think a little differently. As an orphan, the community would probably care for you, and the mages would likely have taught you.
The forest fire: Keep in mind that these are elves. They are not stupid people. Also it takes quite a bit of fire to destroy an entire village. Even one in the trees. Elves don't build their villages at the edge of the forest, so the blaze would have started in the middle. Not inconceivable but also very unlikely, since the dead, dry stuff would likely be at the edge. You fail to mention what caused the fire. If it was heat, the forest might have been burned down, or a sizable chunk of it. Lightning will rarely burn a tree (since they've got all that water in them, trees will actually just explode from the pressure of steam rather than bursting into flame) enough that it will start a fire and the Maeverhim have probably lived there long enough to know how to put one out. The kind of damage you describe would take years to regrow. Don't go stabbing gaping holes in the forest for the sake of your CD.
On the subject of magic. By the time you leave Tharados, you are functionally a 19-20 year old human. The
magic guide
notes the minimum amount of time it takes a human to progress from level 1 to 3 is nine years. You left the Sharadon at age 14 (equivalent) and a year later (which would still make you 14 since elves age slowly, you met Tharados. The times given on the magic guide are for a human in training at Ximax (or an elven equivalent). Learning from a wandering mage could very well take twice as long, and a ximaxian mage of the same level might still know more than you do.
Possessions:
-A belt holding several pouches containing medicinal herbs and reagents.
-A small slightly rusty dagger.
A healer should know that a rusty tool is just as likely to hurt them as it is to someone else. Someone trained in fighting would know that as well. A chef knows this. You take care of your tools. Even if you don't use them.
-A weeks worth of trail rations.
-A leather satchel containing several pairs of clothes along with a weather worn blanket.
-A pouch containing a dozen san, four hak, and two silverbard.
You have comments, including Rayne's which I notice you failed to include. She is right about what she said. Take that into account. Also, you have several spelling errors which I have not corrected. There is a spell check on the site I suggest you use it. I've changed your icon back to the pencil since you have work to do.

Looking back on this the mistakes look so stupid. At the time I was writing all of this I had a major snowstorm going on and was using the spare moments I had in between shoveling (Not Fun
). As you can guess I was very worn out and I've only recently been able to start fixing it.
