Overview Rellech is a politician from Remusia, who has worked his way up the political ladder to realize the position of Ambassador to New Santhala, the first ever post of its kind. A savvy politician, he has survived and even redeemed himself from one time political prisoner awaiting death, to being one of the more powerful men in Remusia. His close ties to King Timeras has ensured his position.

Physical Appearance: Rellech is a typical Ice Tribe specimen. His face is weathered, with dark hair and eyes and he sports a neatly cut goatee. He is of average build, both height and weight, for a human. Most would consider him handsome, though it is his self assured nature that creates an aura around him.

Clothing: Rellech places great import on how he looks. Therefore, he wears a dhura blue tunic and breeches based on the Remusian military garb, though he has long since left the Remusian army. It is tailored to him and is immaculate. His black leather knee high boots are polished to a shine, with polished silver adornments. His coat is a thick parka of wison hide, with an inner woollen liner and trimmed with winter shir fur.

Personality: It comes as a surprise to most people, that when they are asked to describe Rellech, they discover how plain looking physically he really is. This speaks to the power of his personality. Rellech has an aura about him that completely draws the attention of others to him. This often places those who know him into two distinct groups; those who are in awe of him, and those who despise him.

To those in awe of the Remusian, he projects an image of strength and power. Not in a physical sense, but a power of will. He is a man who knows what he wants, and often has multiple plans to help him reach his goals. His mind is sharp, as is his tongue. He is not one to shy away from stating exactly how he feels. Yet, he is smart enough to know the value in duplicity if needed. It is what makes him the consummate politician.

To those who detest the man, Rellech is a symbol of the elite. He cares little for the fortunes of those he deems beneath him, which is anyone who does not immediately, or potentially, offer him something of value. He has little patience for these people and can be very dismissive.

Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
* Intelligence- Rellech is a very smart man. This is further amplified by his education, which included tutors from Nerrmeran. He can read and write, knows arithmetic and how to speak Tharian. He is also well versed in Remusian history and politics.

*Political Animal- His political acuity is quite good, and saved his life when Timeras first became king in Remusia and instituted his "Days of Purging", where Timeras consolidated his power by rounding up anyone who had been less than fully in step with the government. Many were executed, including many nobles with whom Rellech was affiliated and led against Araman's policies on trade relations to the south. Only Rellech's ability to convince Timeras that he was more valuable alive than dead had saved his life.

*Swordsmanship- A very minor strength this is. He had been in the Remusian army when he was young, but his family's influence saw to it that he never saw any battles, and instead worked in the administration side of the military.

*Riches- Rellech's grandfather had been the Warlord of a nomadic clan of Remusians that wandered the Frozen Wastes east of Remusiat. This gave him considerable power, which became more pronounced when he moved his clan to Remusiat and settled as permanent residents. Those previously in his clan gave a portion of their wealth each month so that he could invest in trade envoys that were being sent south and coming in from Santharia. He soon acquire much wealth and influence that was passed to Rellech's father then to Rellech himself. Rellech was the first in his family to be formally educated so that he could better manage his family's fortune, which he does masterfully.

Weaknesses
*Abrasive- Rellech can be very abrasive to a great many people. He is not a man for the masses. Put in the company of commoners, or those less refined than he is, and he will be out of his comfort zone, causing him to react poorly. He will bristle and become short with those who address him. This has garnered him few friends and many enemies during his lifetime.

*Far from Home- A recent resident of New Santhala, Rellech is beyond the borders of Remusiat for the first time in his life. He knows no one there, has few allies, and has no network of contacts on whom he can rely. His is, quite figuratively, a fish out of water there.

*Arrogance- Rellech has a strong personality which, coupled with his privileged upbringing, slides into arrogance often. He holds himself above most others, and this further separates him from those who might otherwise become his ally.

*Pampered- Rellech has had others to do most everything for his in life that was not associated with business or politics. If left on his own, he would not know how to hunt, how to prepare food, mend clothes or any other basic skills needed to keep himself alive.

History
Rellech was born in early 1620 aS to a wealthy merchant in Remusiat. He was the first born of three, having a younger brother and younger sister. From early on, it was evident that Rellech was brighter than other children his age; learning to walk earlier and talk earlier than most. This came as a delight to his father, who sent for tutors, two of them from the Nermeran city of Nyermersys. They educated the boy in business and Tharian, of which Rellech thrived.

At age 16, Rellech joined the army. His father's influence got him a post doing administrative duties at the army's headquarters in Remusiat. He stayed there for 5 years, attaining the rank of Orsah- Arrock. But military life wasn't for Rellech, and he resigned his post in 1642 to help with the family business.

In 1637, while he was still in the military, Rellech's father joined in a deal with another wealthy family that Rellech and their daughter, Shianyla, be joined in marriage. Three days before they were married, Rellech met his soon to be bride for the first time. Despite this, Rellech and Shianyla had a good marriage that was built on mutual respect. She had been pregnant once, but lost the child during childbirth in 1644.

Rellech's father died in 1648, leaving Rellech to take over the family's holdings. He quickly expanded his wealth by becoming partners with warlords from western clans that supplied slaves to the gold mines in Kordos province. This proved a very lucrative venture, and Rellech soon became very powerful in Remusiat society. Other nobles began to rely on Rellech to set the agenda for important decisions.

This culminated in 1654, during the Fifth Orcish War. Rellech and the nobles that followed him were heavily pressuring King Araman to open up Remusia to more trade with the south. Rellech saw great potential in bringing in southern goods to the Remusian people. Araman was sceptical, however, and aware of the anti-trade movement of more conservative Remusians. An attempt on the life of Araman brought much suspicion on the nobles, but which Rellech vigorously denied having anything to do with.

Araman was killed in the late stages of the war, and his son, Timeras took the throne. As soon as the war ended, Timeras put into effect his Days of Purging, when the new king purged the country of anyone he felt was not truly loyal. Many were arrested, including Rellech, and imprisoned. For three years, Rellech languished in a cell, awaiting death and pleading his innocence. The assassination attempt was linked to several of the nobles under Rellech's influence, but they denied Rellech had anything to do with it, and Rellech was cleared of the charges, though he continued to remain a prisoner for another two years. Finally, after several meetings with Timeras himself, Rellech was released.

Rellech had lost his younger brother in the war, and so it was the husband of his sister who had run the Arnavahr empire while he was incarcerated. The bother in law had done a decent job of it, but Rellech was determined to expand further. By this time, Timeras had warmed to the idea of further trade with the south, seeing it as inevitable. Rellech increased both his wealth and his influence, becoming a frequent guest of Timeras at the King's palace, the Tower of Drapt’na’at.

Shianyla died in 1656, leaving Rellech childless, as she had never again got pregnant after her stillborn in 1644. Though they had not had what would be called a marriage based on romantic love, it had been one in which they loved each other. Rellech was deeply saddened by this, and he became less involved with the business, allowing his brother in law and eldest nephew begin having more say.

Instead, Rellech began looking further away from Remusia. In his many visits with Timeras, he lobbied for better political ties with Santharia. He patiently explained the general points of the Santharian Kingdom to Timeras, and extolled the benefits of a closer relationship, despite the great distance. Timeras was apprehensive at first, but recent tensions with the Antislar of the Iol Peninsula and increased orcen aggression in the south had Timeras rethinking Rellech's argument.

Timeras began a negotiation with the Santhran Tiandor through letters, which after two years resulted in the agreement that the Remusians be allowed to open up an embassy in New Santhala, where they could hold open diplomatic talks with Tiandor himself.

Timeras felt there was only one man qualified for such a position, and Rellech jumped at the chance. So while Rellech prepared himself for the journey, an embassy in New Santhala was refurbished to house them. His arrival in New Santhala is expected to coincide with the completion of the embassy.

Weapons
* Bone handled Ceremonial Sword- Rellech had this piece of art commissioned when he first learned that Timeras planned to send him to New Santhala. To refer to it as a piece of art rather than a weapon is actually more accurate. It was created by an artisan and not a weaponsmith. Made of softer silver, it will not hold an edge well if used in a fight. But, it is exquisitely etched, with scrolling vines up the blade, with the heads of many Ice Coast animals etched between the leaves. The handle is from carved Icesnout bone, with a leather wrap, tooled with a diamond pattern. It is not balanced properly, and even in the hands of a skilled swordsman, would be an unwieldy weapon.

Belongings
Rellech carries little on his person, however his full retinue have with him several wardrobe changes, several art pieces, wines and other collectibles. Rellech appreciates luxury and will surround himself as much comfortable items as he can. From thick tapestries, to soft furniture to paintings.
