Swordmar Manor: Thaelel Swordmar's home

Overview:
Swordmar manor is a (relatively) large mansion owned by Thaelel Swordmar. Thaelel’s parents, Syvash and Clistrea, live with him, having sold their own home to help him purchase this one. Thaelel is rarely here as he travels around presenting his services as a mercenary and has another house is New Santhala, so his parents look after it for him. Thaelel also leaves his dog here, and hires three servants. Thaelel is soon to marry, and when he does he will move out of Swordmar manor and into his house in New Santhala. Swordmar manor has one huge main building, a stable, a smaller living quarters for servants outside the main building, as well as small, one acre grounds.

Swordmar manor can be found in Voldar, in south western Sarvonia near the Darksea coast, in the north of the United Kingdom of Santharia, in north Vardynn, in the east of what was once Erpheronia.

Swordmar manor is in Sarvonia, in the southern part of the Old town of the capital of Vardynn, Voldar. It is in the faces the middle of a cobbled side street and is detached from but near to similar mansions. It takes only about five minutes by carriage to reach the center of Voldar, or ten on foot. It is in a part of the city with very little crime, but it is still secure.

Description:

Outdoors:
The mansion is about 15 peds tall, made of cyhalloian snow and barsa dusk coloured marble and is four stories tall, with a gray tiled roof and many windows covered by shutters. The rectangular front faces northwest, aligned parallel to the street. It is in about 20 peds away from the street, sunk into a small depression and surrounded by yew trees. A huge and imposing set of double doors made of varnished oak are the entrance.

A brook runs southwest to northeast about 60 peds behind the house, going underground within the grounds of Swordmar manor and re-emerging in a well near the main gatehouse. A small cave is the thoroughfare for this brook, and when he was a child and this house was owned by a kind old man, Thaelel and his friends would play in there.

A  stable with four stalls is adjoined to the manor at the back and is sheltered by a wooden roof. A low stone wall encircles the property, with six stone steps leading up to the height of the gardens at the front, which then turns into a cobbled path leading to the front of the house, where another three steps descend to the level of the depression that the manor sits in. However, to save horses climbing this, a ramp leads up to the level of the grounds at the back, and the stables are at the same level.

The servants’ living quarters are just behind the house, and slightly to the east of it. The building itself is made of granite, with a few windows and an oak door that acts as an entrance on the southwestern side. It is only two stories and 10 peds high, but has a tall gray tiled roof.

Garden:
Swordmar Manor has extensive grounds, covering one acre. The grass is well maintained by the gardener, as is the hedge that encircles the property. The grounds also include a vegetable garden, which the cook looks after, using the vegetables to in the mouth-watering dishes she prepares, and a flower/herb garden, which Thaelel’s mother Clistrea uses to make dyes for clothes and the cook uses to add spices to her food.

Indoors:

Swordmar Manor:

Rooms:
First floor:
As one enters through the main entrance, there is a large foyer. Two curving staircases lead to either side of a long balcony. This balcony overhangs four doors that face the entrance, two on either side of a long corridor, and has an elaborate railing. The interior is all dark wood, except for the Swordmar coat of arms on the front of the Balcony- which is made of Aurium- and the portraits of long-dead Swordmars that line the walls. Two alcoves are inset directly to the right and left of the entrance, with tall windows facing the street. One door is on each wall, The one on the left (facing inwards) leads to a richly decorated room for entertaining guests. Facing directly into this room, one can see a door straight ahead that leads to a laundry room, and a door far to the right of that, leading to a small study, and in between them a small closet. If one were to go back into the foyer, one would see that the door on the right leads to a living room, and through there a door leads to a studio. The walls and floor are all made of planks of dark wood, and a wall-length window lets in the only source of light.

The four doors under the balcony lead to small bedrooms, with a corridor in between them. On each side of the corridor there are three doors. The first door on the left leads to one pantry, and the two other doors on the left lead to the next pantry. On the right, all three doors lead to a sizeable kitchen. Going through the double doors at the end of the corridor will reveal a small courtyard, with landscaped grass covering all but a two cobbled paths crossing. Turning right at the crossroads will get you to a small enclosed room with two doors, one on each side. On the right (facing inwards) is a door leading to a room that the Swordmars use for practising, composing, performing, and listening to music. The door on the left leads to a play room, where young guests and children can play to their hearts' content.

Turning left at the crossroads leads you to one door directly in front of youand another to your left, and passage continuing to the right. The door to your left leads to an armoury, where guests leave their weapons and the Swordmars store theirs, while the one in front leads to a sparring room, where the Swordmars practise using their weapons. Following the passage and then turning left around a corner leads to a door in the middle of the wall -which opens onto a herb garden- and then a dead end. Two doors face each other at the dead end. The one on the left is the entrance to an indoor archery range with three targets. This is where Swordmars practise their archery, so there are many scratches on the walls from stray arrows. The one on the right leads into a very long corridor, ending in a door. This is the servants' entrance and the servants' passage.

Continuing on from the crossroads, the cobbled path leads to some double doors. Through these doors is a short corridor, with yet more doors; one on each side and a pair of double doors at the end. The door on the left leads to a room that is used for gambling and smoking when parties are taking place, and the one on the right is a dining room that the Swordmars use normally. Going through the double doors leads to a colossal ball room, with a musicians stage on the far right, with a door behind it and another closer on the same wall. On the left wall are two doors, and on the far left is another door. The door behind the stage leads to a small room adjacent to eight dressing rooms and a closet, while the one closer to the main entrance opens into another small waiting room, also adjacent to 10 dressing rooms and a closet.

The closest door on the left wall leads to a large dining room used only for parties. A huge buffet table lines the left and back (facing inwards) walls, whilst four huge tables stretch from the back wall almost to the buffet table. A stage almost fills the gap between them. This stage is where the Swordmar family and their closest friends sit during the meal before parties, in a U- shape around three sides of the stage. The gap in between, visible from the tables, is where their favoured musicians and performers play during the meal.

The room on the far left is

Second floor:
Two doors face the main entrance, but are one floor above, behind the balcony. A staircase is set into the wall in between the two doors.

Blueprints of the building and its surrounds:
This is a nice addition to your house, but is not necessary, if you have written a good description. A simple sketch of where everything is in your house, together with a map of the lands surrounding your house, is enough.

Other Information:
When making your post, make sure that you have your character's name and their house in the subject line (ex. Claudirea's House).

Hi Thaelel,

I moved your image down to being an attachment to your post, rather than being part of your post. I hope you don't mind It was showing up as being too big for the width of the post area on my screen.

No problem, I had that as well, but I thought it might just be something to do with the size of my monitor.

By the way, do you know how I can show the blueprints I have made on photoshop? It won't let me attach it because it's 4.5 MB and the maximum is 1MB.

Hmmm ... are you able to reduce the size of them or something? Maybe save it as a different file format?

I don't use Photoshop, so I don't know what can/cannot be done in the program, sorry.

You could upload them to some other server that allows larger files, and then just make a link.

I tried that with lots of different image hosting sites, but none of them worked. I know you use deviantart- and I have an account there that's been languishing for almost a year- but I would prefer to be able to attach it. If that's not possible, I will definitely use deviantart. Thanks!

You could also try asking the question in a more general location on either this side or the Development side.

Someone else who has knowledge in that area might see it and be able to respond for you. Using a title like 'question regarding Attaching large pictures to posts' might work.
