uhm.. according to my knowledge of the magical theory, knowing the techniques used in a shpere of a certain element ( in my case fire) technically enables you to perform every spell of that level. Level distinctions within a sphere are set to prevent those with little training in a certain technique of car'all manipulatiopn from attempting to difficult manipulations. however, there is no techincal difference between what you do when casting Fireblast or Blood Breaker.

Fireblast however requires a lot more effort to cast that Blood Breaker, even though the methods yu use are the same.

So, technically it is possible for a level 4 mage to know and be able to cast (big difference!) level 6 spells. Providing of course, the mage masters at Ximax allow their students to study them.

Now, this all has nothing to do with my character of course, but since we're having a chat in my cd anyway.. ( terms ring any bells guys?)

Not quite.  The levels are an indication of not just how much a mage knows, but also how powerful he is.  A mage at level 4 might know how to cast a level 6 spell, assuming he is reasonably talented and good with the theory stuff, but he most likely won't have the power to do so.

Are all the magic problems solved by now, so that I can do a check?

As far as i know, yes. Level=4, spells are all within the first two spheres... nothing that will be disallowed at the first glance.. (maybe at the second though)

Miraran ‘Mira’ Tehùriden

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Race: Human

Tribe: Milkengrad Ahai ( Helcrani )

Title: Flame of Helcrah

Physical appearance: Standing a good five fores, two span tall, Miraran is a rather regular-looking man. Dark, short, wavy haired and blueish eyes, he clearly shows the blood of the Helcrani ancestors, much to the pleasure of his grandfather, one might add. His skin is tanned to some degree, obviously stating that, although scolarly by trade, this man has been outdoors for a fair amount of time. Tipping the scales at one pygge and five hebs, he is fairly in shape, although maybe not as much as when he was a young boy, riding his fathers horses and playing with his brothers.

Clothes: Miraran is dressed for travel, and convenience. A double-sided hooded cloak, long enough to cover him fully when standing, protects him against moth instances of ill weather, and while one side is nearly black, one side is of a bright crimson color. This allows him to easilly turn from an common traveler into a flamboyant mage, and back again. A common blouse, usually in some shade of grey, brown, or in case of festivities, yellow is worn on his upper body. A sturdy, black leather belt, containing his money and reagentia pouches as well as his sword around his waist, a pair of leather riding boots of the centoraurian make, and some dark grey or light brown pants complete his wardrobe.

Personality: Miraran takes great pride in his heritage. He fiercely tries to uphold the principles of honor and valor, but, as most Helcrani, he is easily distracted by more primal emotions, and quick to anger. He is open and warm to most people, although certain parts of his history are kept secret to all but his closest friends. He greatly enjoys to tease others, playing tricks on unsuspecting people nearby, often aided by his three sneaky rat friends Gnaw, Thief and Squeak. This is by no small amount the result of his childhood, as after suffering his brothers teasing for fifteen years, his fellow students at Ximax were utterly defenceless against his enormous arsenal of tricks.

Strengths:

-Magic, Fire level 4. Miraran has focusser his studies greatly.. while his physical representation spells, such as Fireball and Flash are thoroughly practiced, and even the powerful Blazing Shield can be listed with the spells he has mastered, the spiritual spells of Fire are another matter. He will be able to cast most of them, but their effectiveness may be debated, as it takes a lot of effort and concentration to perform even a slightly effective Blood Breaker spell for instance.

-Weapons training. Miraran has indeed received the mandatory weapons training every helcrani child between eight and fifteen years of age will receive. Although he is in no way a practiced swordsman, he is able to use a shortsword without harming himself (to much) and his muddled, and often erratic fighting style has been proven to sometimes confuse an opponent enough for him to either run away, or set the offender on fire.

-Fast thinking. Having several older brothers around while growing up is without doubt the best way to become a fast thinker. Victim to his brothers pranks and scams for years, Miraran learned to think quick, and act even quicker.

-Horsemanship, being the son of a horse breeder, Mira could ride before he could run properly. Even now he is quite a skilled rider, and needs neither saddle not reigns to ride a properly trained horse.

Weaknesses:

-Prone to acting _to_ fast, and making errors of judgement, as he often does not take the time to pass good judgement on a situation. His preferred way to get out of (and into) trouble runs along the lines of “Ack! Fireball! /runs away/”

-Bad eye-hand coordination. Although his magical skills do not seem to be impaired, probably because the gestures used there are merely tools for focussing oneself, Miraran has severe problems in other areas. As a child, it wreaked havoc on his sword practice, forcing him to substitute for a slashing weapon instead of a sword used mostly at the point, and rendering him one of the slowest writers many of his teachers had ever been forced to endure. Catching a thrown ball might as well result in having it hit him in the face, and asking him to toss you something from across the room is only advisable with unbreakable objects, or lightning reflexes on the receiving person.

-[Hidden Weakness] Available to Admins on request.

Weapons: Like most mages, Miraran is no great warrior, and has mastered no specific weapons. He might be able to deliver quite the -TWACK- with a staff or other club-like object, but don’t expect any fancy moves. As a helcrani child, he was due to receive some form of weapons training. However, is soon became obvious that the sword was not his best friend, and he resorted to the long dagger. As he aged, and grew, his dagger was replaced by a small helcrani shortsword. As a result, Miraran has a rather strange fighting style with his sword, using a mixture of dagger and shortsword techniques that often confuses an opponent trained in the 'proper' way of fighting. He can fend off an attacker for some time, and maybe even hurt a fairly bad warrior, but in the long run, his lack of regular practice over the last fifteen years, combined with his bad coordination, has made him not quite the combatant he would have been expected to be as a Helcran who would have remained in Milkengrad and completed his warriors training. At his fifteenth birthday, only days before he would depart to Ximax, his brothers presented him with a sword of his own, marking his transition into Helcrani adulthood. He hasn't left the weapon behind ever since he got it, since it has their names (Árhamen and Kilérian) etched on the blade.

Other Belongings:
-a small pouch with various coins.
-a glass lens, wrapped in soft cloth.
-a whetstone.
-a few pieces of chalk.
-a worn leather bound book, wrapped in a piece of cloth.
-a frayed and obviously much-used booklet bound in linnen.
- a writing quill and a tightly closed bottle of black ink.
- a large pouch containing his reagents, mostly ashes, sulfur, and various flame-coloring powders.
- a leather saddlebag, easily converted to a backpack, containing his spare clothes, as well as the books and other trinkets he owns.

History:
Growing up youngest of three children, in a fairly wealthy family on the outskirts of Milkengrad, Miraran has had a relatively easy life. Loved by his family, he was left to learn his hearts desire when the time came to choose a path to follow through his life, as both of his brothers were already being educated in order to succeed their father when the time would be right. Drawn to the wonders traveling magi would sometimes perform at festivals, his young mind was easily set; “I want to do that too!”..

And so he would. Aged fifteen, he was given permission by his parents to attend Ximax, even though the magical arts are not as appreciated among the Helcrani as among other people, the backup of his Centoraurian grandmothers and his persistent desire to study there finally won through, and he went to study at the Tower of Fire.

The next fourteen years went on in a remarkably peaceful way. The boy studied, practiced, and somewhere along the way grew up into a young man along the way. Almost a year before he wold actually leave the academy, Mira was trying to study in the Library of his Tower, when a small incident would bring him a fresh pair of life-long friends. Shouts and laughter of students made him look up from the tome he was studying, to see a Ximax cat pass him by on high speed, in pursuit of three small, and very fast creatures. Being accustomed to the residential cat's habit of hunting any Ximax Rat that dared enter the Tower of Fire, (as well as the occasional Imp wandering into places it shouldn't) and being not the biggest fan of the purple-eyed predators, his choice was made fast.

Cats all around the tower had learned not to cross Miraran when he was in a bad mood, as singed tails didn't just hurt, but were a source of shame as well. This one was about to be reminded of that. Miraran muttered a few words, and flicked his hand as the cat ran him by. And had its tail ignited. Skidding to a halt against a book case, the furry beast managed to cast a small dowse spell on himself before getting seriously hurt, and shot Miraran a spiteful, purple look as his mid-day snacks escaped into a small gap between the wall's stones.

That night, three small bundles of fur were sleeping on his bed when he entered his room. Trying to ignore them at first, the three rats would follow him everywhere they went, and even started luring cats behind them, only to flee to Miraran, who' se appearance now seemed to instill pacifism amongst most of the tower cats.

Only a few months later, their playfulness would be the reason Miraran would leave the Academy.

That day, Miraran was having spell practice with one of the older Magi, Flamemaster Brastarin, when suddenly one of his rats came almost flying through the door, the hungry jaws of one of the Cats almost closing around her tail. As the rat shot up his clothes and into his pocket, the cat, apparently not realizing who he was, tried to pounce up into his legs in order to chase the rat.

That day, Miraran learned a few important things...

- One should not try to create a fireball when a cat is climbing your legs.
- One should also not turn to your mentor to ask for help when the disrupted casting is about to go up in a blaze of flames, scorching his beard off.

The result of the day was that Miraran packed his belongings faster than ever before, and had already left the building before the magus, who was known for his bad temper at times, arrived at his erratic student's room.

Oh well, do you really think this incident would send you away?  I doubt, that the school would send you away, you are paying for it! Maybe you did something more severly and were asjemed to stay?

Say something, how far you have proceeded in your studies, you are now in your fifth year, right?

Miraran then, traveled northward, to the Efirhal island and his family in Milkengrad. His stay was short however, as he was restless, and felt useless as he watched his father and brothers manage the breeding farm, and soon decided to leave home again, this time towards the Villages, specifically Ahaiwana, where still some distant relatives of his family can be found. He was planning on continuing westward after a few days, in order to reach Jernais before the mid-summer feasts would be held.

However, his plans were cut short by accident, as, upon descending the northwestern slopes a small, furry creature, probably a Stone ferret, burst from its hiding place just under Graystar's hoof. The startled horse reared, and Miraran, to his never ending shame, was caught unaware and fell off, crashing into the thicket, and delivering a well-aimed blow to a rock with his head. And all the world went black.

He awakened in a cave, lit only by a few smoldering embers in a clay dish, and the few rays of light passing past the frayed edges of a large piece of old cloth, concealing what would most likely be the exit. He slowly got up, carefully touching the bandage wrapped around his head, and winced. The wound was obviously still rather fresh. Slightly dizzy, he made it towards the exit of the cramped, square-ped cave, and moved the curtain.

Before him was a large cave, lit by three fairly large fires, and several dozen of people, mostly clad in old, torn clothes. For a moment, Miraran looked in amazement. He almost jumped, and made his head spin when a soft voice spoke from the right, and an elderly man smiled at him gently. "You have awakened. Good, yes, very good. You must wonder where you are now child... so i would welcome you to our rocky home comma child of Helcrah. Do not fear. You will find peace among the Grey."

In the end, Miraran never reached Jernais. He returned to Ahaiwana briefly almost three years after leaving, and left money to send a message to his parents, ensuring them their son was safe and in good health. He somehow managed to travel all the way to Bardavos, earning his living by means of his magic mostly, However, upon arriving in the City of Art he spend only one day there, before he left, heading southwards, without plans. Only time will tell what happens now, and where his story leads. For now, this will be enough.

Familiars;

The Rats
Thief – Ximaxian Rat, Female, completely grey. Personality; The sneakiest of the three, this female rat often has an own agenda. Known to secretly take whatever she takes a liking to, be it food, valuables, or just random things that interest her. Often these things belong to miraran, who then finds them, or the crumbs left of them, in a deep corner of his backpack.

Gnaw – Ximaxian Rat, Male, black with grey and brown patches. Personality; Gnaw is the big guy on the block. He is dominant to the females, and often tries the very same with Miraran. With a tendency to get really moody when he doesn't get what he wants, Gnaw can be childish at times, and often rather sulks about something forbidden to him than trying to improve his situation.

Squeak – Ximaxian Rat, Female, brown with grey patches. Personality; Squeak is probably the most social of the Rats. She enjoys attention, and often spends long periods somewhere on Mirarans shoulder, 'talking' to him in their own tongue, often making entire conversations with her giant friend. She is a curious animal, and prone to getting into trouble as her curiosity leads her into sticky situations. (Most memorable of these being a four span high jug of honey, which proved a bit to tall for her to get out of again.)

Graystar – Horse, Centoraurian breed. Charcoal base color, manes and three socks (front left, front right, and back left) in barsa dusk, as well as a Seven-pointed star on the forehead. Bred (of course) by his father, Graystar has been Mira's loyal steed ever since his fifteenth birthday. Aged a sturdy 18 years, she is still at her primes, and not only a beauty to behold, but also possesses the famous speed and elegance of the Centoraurian horse breed.

Preferred spells;
- Flame Control
- Rise Flame
- Sparkling Stream
- Searing
- Light
- Fireball
- Flash
- Blazing Shield

As evident, Miraran prefers to set things aflame. Dowsing spells he can use efficiently, but all spiritual spells are avoided if possible, as Miraran prefers using the physical manifestations over the spiritual anytime. While he will be able to perform most spells of the fire school (as far as his training goes, of course), spells relying heavily on the spiritual aspect of Fire require a lot more effort from his side, mainly because he rarely practiced them. On the other side, his pyrokinetic spells are quite the sight, especially his beloved Sparkling Stream, a spell he has longed to learn even as a child, and has perfected as much as he could, ever from the moment he learned to perform it.

Isn't the restriction level 3?  Reading the above comments, I'm not sure if you've been allowed to play a level 4 mage.

In any case, that isn't the main issue I have with your magic.  As I said before, you should not be able to cast spells of a higher level, whether it is of the same Sphere or not.  Certain exceptions can be made if the spell is of the next level, and you're close to achieving that level.  Blazing Shield, though, is two levels above you.  If it's of the same Sphere, and you're pretty talented, you might know how to cast the spell, but you still won't be powerful enough to.  This limitation can be overcome, as you pointed out, by having several other magi, who also know how to perform the spell, assist you (actually, I'm not entirely sure, since the Joining of Wills stuff is old, but it appears sound).  However, since you are not able to perform the spell alone, I don't think you can be said to have mastered the spell.

Teehee, I was the first who commented on this CD the first time it was posted ^.^

Anyway, I just wanted to say that the new Mira looks interesting so far, but you might want to reconsider/reword your last weakness. At the moment I can't really see why it's a weakness. Simonne has never killed anyone in her life either ;)
