Miraran ‘Mira’ Tehùriden

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Race: Human

Tribe: Ter'ei'Vikh Tehuriden

Title: Greenkeeper

Physical appearance:

Standing at about nineteen palmspan, Miraran is fairly long for a Ter'ei'Vikh, an impression further reiïnforced by the somewhat androgynous facial features and slender build that mark this tribe. The comparison end here though, for where the "Vikh are dark skinned with bright white hair, Mira is quite the opposite, displaying the pale skin and n'orsidian black of some of his most distant Lillivear ancestors.  His eyes are dark green, which is emphathised emphasised by the grey lines that appear to radiate from his pupils, giving a cheerfull, lighthearted effect, which suits him just fine. He moves in an elegant, but sadly imbalanced way, as he tends to start walking, get distracted, get distracted again, fail to notice the root sticking up.. well, you get the idea. This is partially explained from living within the trees of the Drifitng Woods of Nybelmar for fifteen years, but it would most certainly help if he'd keep his mind and his feet together a bit better.

Clothes:

Often, Miraran wears nothing more than a simple turei from Faen-bought fabrics. You are talking to mostly Santharians here, not many of us come from Nybelmar and even less from the Drifting woods. Perhaps you might give a little description of what a turei is? Currently, no Tehuriden posesses exceptional weaving skills, and the slightly more open-minded outcasts have happily adopted the outlandish fabrics the merchants bring in. Miraran favours grown, green and yellow cloths, and is rarely seen in some of the more fancyful reds and purples, prefering to limit himself to "Wood Colors", as he calls them. An added benefit is of course, that the dirt marks that come with his botanical studies are easilly concealed on these colors.  Roll Eyes

For more official matters, he will wear long, concealing hooded cloaks, that cover all but his head. (As long as he is not using the hood, of course.) He sticks to monocolored fabrics for these garments, (but can be expected to just wear the turei inderneath anyway!) and if at all possible, black ones at that.

Personality:

Inquisitive, trusting, yet slightly distant, Miraran is a walking social juxtaposition. While he is always interested in meeting new folk, hearing their stories and learning about their backgrounds, he is equally seclusive about his own life, both before and after his exile. He is often socially active, but this appears to be somewhat of an act, that hides his inbred distrust of all Earth Children. He is especially distant towards Dwarves, but has taken a liking to those few Elves he has met during his travels.
Miraran hunts knowledge, especially on natural phenomena, wherever he goes, and is always on the lookout for new paths to take and new sights to discover. He has always liked traveling, but avoids mountainous regions as much as possible, prefering open fields and forested areas.

Strengths:

-Spirit Song magic. A magic posessed by all Ter'ei'Vikh, Miraran may use his ability to communicate with the spirits to shape and direct living things so a small degree. Because he is not one of the true "Vikh, he cannot join others in song to enhance his powers. Its effects are limited to chasing off animals, making a flower bloom, and somehwat enhancing the natural healing processes of a wounded individual. More usefull are its spiritual possibilities, by means of which he can acces the spirit world to commune with the powerfull spirits of certain places, detect lifeforms,  and receive guidance from his ancestors.

-Distant contacts. A result of his employment at the Enkyclopedia Nybelmarnica, Miraran knows people all over the world. Would he need to travel far, he can usually rely on these contacts for information and help.

-Ecological knowledge. His studies are focussed on the ways of nature, and have taught him much about the way an ecosystem functions. He can put this to his advantage in many ways when out in the wild, as he can 'read nature's scrolls', and more often than not deduct if a plant is edible, how a disease should be treated, and which way certain animals or plants might be found.

-Dark Councillors. While in Nybelmar, especially the north-western regions, the myths of the Dark Councillors help protect him from unwanted attention. Robbers are likely to leave him be as long as he wears the required cloak, and very few people will try to deter him from going about as he pleases.

Weaknesses:

-Outcast. As a Ter'ei'Vikh in whom the ancient Lillivear bloodlines are dominant, Miraran has no real family or a proper home. "Proper" being located in the elevated villages of the "Vikh. Although he has come to terms with this, the conflict between his situation and the way his life should have been still slumbers deep within him.

-Kindness. A quality often admired in people, has gone a bit overboard in Miraran's case. Always ready to believe in someone's good intentions, and able to forgive nearly everything done to him, this aspect of Miraran's may eventually leed him into deep, deep trouble.

-Partial claustrophobia. Raised in the belief the Earth Spirit is a malevolent being that will not hesitate to harm him at every chance, Miraran will not go underground no matter what the consequences.

-Pacifistic. Miraran does not hunt or kill living beings unless he would be in dire need of nourishment. This means that he will either try to disable a threat (a hunting predator for instance), usually through magical means, or flee. This does not apply to the lower animals, such as insects and other invertebrates, although he will always try to kill nothing he will not eat, and may at times go for weeks without eating anything animal in nature.

-Mild xenophobia. Although the Tehuriden have to shrug the Ter'ei'Vikh way of constant distrust to all outsiders in order to survive, Miraran is still a bit squeemish about getting more than superficially involved with groups of non-"Vikh people, especially when away from home.

Weapons: None in posession, but he has had some training in the use of the typical ranged hunting tools used by the Ter'ei'Vikh, mainly the Matan and the thrown short spear. It is not reccomended to count on his aim when under pressure, or to stand anywhere than directly behind him. Fortunately, he prefers fishing. If he can fight with it, it's considered a strength (even if he doesn't have one in his possession at the moment)

History:

Miraran was born on the 24th Molten Ice of 1635 A.S. As usual it was a smooth delivery, and surrounded by most of this relatives, Mira came into this world into the warm embrace of their voices. His dark hair was at the time no reason for concern at all. After all, one out of five children is born dark-haired, and it nearly always pales before their fifteenth year.

Nearly.

And a little dark-haired boy lived peacefully for years, never wondering why the few dark streaks of his friends faded over time, while his did not. He was taught to survive outside the villages, how to find food, and how to avoid the many dangers that lie waiting for a reckless movement, or momentary lack of attention.
He was taught the ways of dealing with the Spirits, and how they would affect him in return, and was taught that only malevolent beings lived beyond the woods, spirits and creatures of the Earth Master, Kalim.

And then one day he turned sixteen, and was the last dark-haired child for miles around. He of course knew now what it meanth, and what would happen that day. Like most of his kind, he prepared himself, traveling to the Gates of M'aghin just before his sixteenth birthday. There he waited untill the moon rose, and, without family or friends to see him off, left his tribe to become Tehuriden, impure, outcasted.

The village just within the forest's reach on the banks of the Metherinin was forewarned of his arrival, and accepted him without further ado. As such he was given shelter and food untill he built his own home, and learned the speech of the Faen and Morchini traders that relied on the outcasts for translation and mediation in their transactions. It was not the life he had imagined himself to lead, but it was a life.

A life that would take an interesting turn when a charismatic man came with the Faen, and with a thick accent introduced himself as Coren Frozenzephyr of Anis-Anpagan, claiming to need a translator to speak with the Ter'ei'Vikh at the Gates. As it turned out, the poor man wanted to be grantes acces to the deep woods, to gather data for something he called an "Enkyclopedia". It barely needs saying that the most ridiculous request was denied instantly, despite his most valient efforts to convince anyone otherwise.

Five years later, Miraran is an esteemed member of the scolarly organisation of the Enkyclopedia Nybelmarnica, and heads a small research facility near the Drifting Woods that gathers data on the Kaerath region. However, a recent message from the Enkyclopedia Hall at Hostar. You forgot the verb in the previous sentence ;) Immediately after receiving it, he packed his bags and left with the first southbound Faen caravan that passed by.

Familiars;

Mira has a Cedi Apecat he received from his friend and colleague Decipher Ziron on a visit to the southern plains of Zhun. It was his first encouter with a cat-like animal, and he was immediately sold. 'Zirry', named after Decipher, seemed equally enamoured with the Ter'ei'Vikh, and traveled back north with him. It is now the communal favourite, and the playmate of the youngest Tehuriden, often to be found on the lap of one of the nexest arrivals. I'll get to this before Garret pounces... We generally ask for a little description of what the familiar looks like and how it behaves, kind of like a mini-cd. Also, if relevant, how it was trained. If there's more needed, I'm sure Garret will be along shortly to point it out :P

So! Not many comments, though of course if there's any expert on the "Vikh, it's you. Just one small thing, sometimes you shorten the tribe to "Vikh, and sometimes to 'Vikh. Are both acceptable or is only one out of two the official spelling?

Yeah, like I said... Either 'my worst' isn't very bad, or this is just a well-written CD. I'm voting for the second option.

I just realised that new people might get relatively confused by the three last posts... I post as Irid, you call me Sim, and I reply as Roosje :P

Oh, and about the "Vikh thing... couldn't you just use the double quotation marks? Then you need only press one button... Well, I do, because I have a belgian keyboard :P

There is a slight difference! It's force of habit, mainly, but officially, since its a contraction where the ' did not get eliminated, they should be done with two separate '-s.
Does that help, Judit? :P (And yes, i just ran out of names)

Hoho, Mira, another attempt? ;)

I do love this part:

Here's a little check for you, Mira. I'll try my best, but since I don’t know too much about Nybelmar that may not be too good. But, I trust all Nybelmarian stuff will be fine anyway.

Miraran ‘Mira’ Tehùriden

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Race: Human

Tribe: Ter'ei'Vikh Tehùriden (I’m not really sure, but should this be separated into tribe and clan? Are the Tehùriden considered a different tribe?)

Title: Greenkeeper

Physical appearance:

Standing at about nineteen palmspans, Miraran is fairly long for a Ter'ei'Vikh, an impression further reinforced by the somewhat androgynous facial features and slender build that mark this tribe. This is partially explained from living within the trees of the Drifting Woods of Nybelmar for fifteen years, but it would most certainly help if he'd keep his mind and his feet together a bit better.

Clothes:

Often, Miraran wears nothing more than a simple turei, a type of wrap-skirt, from Faen-bought fabrics as is custom amongst the Ter'ei'Vikh of northwestern Nybelmar. Currently, no Tehùriden possesses exceptional weaving skills, and the slightly more open-minded outcasts have happily adopted the outlandish, often exotically coloured fabrics the merchants bring in. Miraran himself favours brown, green and yellow cloths, and is rarely seen in some of the more fanciful reds and purples, preferring to limit himself to "Wood Colors", as he calls them, although he is quite enamoured with the simple line-patterns used by the Faen weavers. An added benefit is of course, that the dirt marks that come with his botanical studies are easily concealed on these colors.  Roll Eyes

For more official matters, he will wear long, concealing hooded cloaks, that cover all but his head. (As long as he is not using the hood, of course.) Maybe try: although he will always try not to kill something he will not eat. Or if you could rearrange it better be my guest.), and may at times go for weeks without eating anything animal in nature.

-Mild xenophobia. Although the Tehùriden have to shrug the Ter'ei'Vikh way of constant distrust to all outsiders in order to survive, Miraran is still a bit squeamish about getting more than superficially involved with groups of non-"Vikh people, especially when away from home.

Weapons: None in his possession, but he has had some training in the use of the typical ranged hunting tools used by the Ter'ei'Vikh, mainly the Matan and the thrown short spear. Sadly, he has never been much good at it. It is not recommended to count on his aim when under pressure, or to stand anywhere than directly behind him on all occasions. Fortunately for him, he prefers fishing anyway. (Skill with a weapon is a strength, even if he doesn’t own one or isn’t very good with it. He has still had some training, which is more than the average man. I’d suggest moving this up to his strength section, as it is more a description of his skill than of an actual weapon. If he doesn’t have a weapon you can remove this section.)

History:

Miraran was born on the 24th Molten Ice of 1635 A.S. As usual it was a smooth delivery, and surrounded by most of this relatives, Mira came into this world into the warm embrace of their voices. As most Cedi living with Humans, Zirry is just as wild and stubborn as any animal, although significantly more lazy since her food is taken care off (In fact, she has put on some weight due to being pampered by an entire community.) She is just over ninety nailsbreadths long, not counting the tail, and displays the characteristic brown fur with golden stripes of her kind.
It is the inborn curiosity of the Cedi that keeps her with Miraran, but it also might be that curiosity that will compel her to go her own way once again at some point in the future.

Nothing too bad from me, Mira. As well as what I mentioned, there is one other thing. I think we would all greatly appreciate a magic section explaining this Spirit Song magic. I'm going to change your posticon back to the pencil while you do your edits, so remember to change it back. And don't forget to colour your changes either. Good luck. :)
