Following is a
list of all kinds of beasts which aren't categorized yet:
The
AJ'Nuvic
With a shoulder height of over two peds, the Aj'Nuvic
is one of the tallest mammals living in the Rahaz Dath, which is
not only used as a mount by the Shendar,
but also is of economical, yes even religious importance to this tribe. The name derives from the elven
word for ai, meaning "before" and
"nuvic", the word used for all
races. Thus it is said that the Ai‘Nuvic is the animal
which lived already in the vast planes of the Rahaz Dath before the intelligent
races arrived. The
Shendar are bonded to their animals for their lifetime.
The
Al'Syrr
The Al'Syrr, also known as the Sandbird, is 35 cm in
length. It is a rounded short-legged bird that has a yellowish brown color to
the body, which is mainly found throughout the Rahaz-Dath
Desert and the Narfost Plain. Al'Syrr spend much of their
time on the ground. When there is danger they will flatten out and not move
using camouflage to hide. If that does not work Al'Syrr
will take to the air and wing quickly away.
The
Banded
Ricau
The Banded Ricau is a mostly snowy white seabird approx.
40 cm in length. It has two thin elongated
central tail feathers which are another 50
cm. These tail feathers are also white except the last finger length
that is black. The body is streamlined and all white except for a black half
moon shape around the red eyes. The Banded Ricau
needs warmer weather therefore it is mainly located at sea and along the
coasts of the Burning, Aetryam and southern Adanian Seas.
The
BAT
Bats are
also known as Cave Bats, Canyon Bats, Flittermice or Darksingers. This small
flying mammal has a natural ‘sonar’ system, is a devoted mate, and can eat its
weight in insects in one night. It prefers to roost in caves by day and flies by
night, using bounced echoes to determine its location in the air. They are
favorites of the Thergerim, who have
domesticated them and use them as a kind of organic message system (see
Morjualerons entry). A group of bats is called a “clowd”.
The
Bloodworm
Bloodworms are found mainly in the Desert of Light, in the southern part
of the Aeruillin continent, and are the juvenile stage of Lightworms. They
range in size from just over a ped long when freshly hatched, to lengths
of up to fifty peds, and are dark red in color.
The
Bogsnapper
The Bogsnapper is an amphibious swamp-dwelling beast with a long neck, long
legs and a bill. However, it is only a ped in height, which makes it just
the right size for the Mullogs, who use it as a pack animal and a steed of
sorts. These animals are particularly tame and not very bright.
The
Blue
Glitra
The Blue Glitra is a rare and elusive bird. It has taken years to compile
information about this enigmatic and beautiful bird and even now there is
much that is still not known. Eyewitnesses say it is 23 to 30 cm long with a
bluish-green head and breast. Blue Glitras have an
extended, narrow and pointed bill. The tail feathers are the true glory of
this bird.
The
CAPRICUS
The Capricus is categorized
in the goat family and is known for its impulsive, unpredictable nature.
They are fairly dangerous because they may attack with even the slightest
disturbance. Because of this, most people leave them alone.
The
Carthasian
Bear
Stemming originally from the region around Cartash, this type of bear is not
only much bigger than his brown bear relative but also much more dangerous.
The full grown Cartashian Bear can reach a height of three and a half peds
thus rendering his opponents to mere dwarves: Big,
dangerous, bad tempered, and vaguely smelly. There exist many different
species of bears in the world of
Caelereth, but the most notorious
and feared of all is the so-called Cartashian Bear,
the most deadly bear known to man.
The
CAPOU-CAPOU
The Flying
Ape or Capou-Capou (singular and plural form are identical) is a small monkey-creature that resides mainly in the
jungles/forests
all over souther-eastern Nybelmar. The
Capou-Capou is green with small wings on its back. While the monkey isn't really
capable of flying, the wings are used often though in order to glide from tree
to tree. Aside from that the Capou-Capou can take off and move about 1 ped off
of the ground for a distance of 5 peds using its wings only. To accomplish this
little bit of flight it requires a lot of energy from the ape, it must flap its
wings very quickly and they just glide the rest of the distance. Especially when
at flight from larger predators, this ability is very valuable.
The
Centaur
One of the many creatures that the powerful human sorcerers bred at the War
of the Chosen a long time ago was the Centaur. This beast is a magically
created, inseparable combination of a fighter and a horse and benefits from
all positive attributes of both creatures, mainly quickness and strength. It
is unknown if Centaurs still inhabit
Santharian lands at the current age.
The
CERUWING
BUTTERFLY
The Ceruwing
Butterfly is named for the flower whose nectar it feeds upon, the
cerubell.
These adorable little insects are never found very far from one another and are
known for their elegant, romantic mating rituals. They are, in short, an elegant
yet innocent creature gracing the banks of Northern and mid-Santharia.
The
CHEERK
The Cheerk is a
strange-looking large worm, generally white or red, with two small pink
stripes running down its body. It is regarded as a pest by many throughout
Caelereth, as it will, with time, take
all the nutrients from the soil it inhabits. This is a result of the venom
it secretes from its double-forked tails, as well as the Cheerk's ravenous
eating habits. It is however, the staple diet for many creatures, and is
necessary to the ecosystem.
The
CHIMAERA
The term "Chimaera" incites a certain amount of fear, a
certain amount of amusement, and a certain amount of confusion. The word is
really a classification of a large group of beasts similar only in origin,
that of a particularly strange
demonology ritual.
However, whenever one comes face-to-face with one of the beasts, it is
always best to run. Very fast, and very well, because there's no telling
what skills the creature might have...
The
CRO'CUTA
The Cro'cuta, is a large dog-like animal living in the
Rahaz-Dath, in the open woodland and on the floodplains. They have
cannibalistic tendencies
and are often seen on
feeding on the small or weak, hunting in large packs, which is making them
feared by most lone travellers.
They are about one ped long, from nose to the root of the tail, with a
shoulder-height at two, two and a half fores. The usual dirty fur is brown,
with black spots about the size of a kid’s hand.
The
Cuuloo
The Cuuloo is a ground bird that dwells in forests all over
Santharia. Their plumage makes them an
easy target, but these same feathers make them a beautiful game bird that is
sometimes kept as a pet.
The
Dolpholk
Dolpholk are warm-blooded, semi-sentient sea creatures.
Researchers are only now beginning to investigate this species further
because of their close relationship with
merpeople.
An average dolphune is about two and a half
peds in length, although the females can reach four peds in old age. It has
a tapered, cylindrical body covered with slick, rubbery skin. Powerful front
fins and a tail equipped with three symmetrical flukes allow it to cut
through ocean waters at a speed of up to 60 strals an hour.
The
Drasil
Drasil look almost like giant
trolls half turned into oak trees. They are
covered with thick bark, and are neither male nor female. The young look much
like Brownies, with the exception of being hairless, with twigs and leaves
growing from their head, and other parts of their body. They begin life with two
arms, but as they get older, they often grow several more, branching out of the
first two or out of their heads. Their eyes are jet black and twinkling, set
deep within their heads.
The
Dune
Mouse
"Dune
Mouse" is the common name for the
Styrásh "Injèrcál'
halthról"
(Injèrcál'
halthról).
A Dune Mice are
no true mice in fact, although
they are members of the rodent
family, and have similarities with squirels, but live in arid
climates. Dune Mice
are very active animals and will range great distances in
search of food. They are nocturnal animals which
have a good sense of direction and can always return to
their burrows. They are also often seen as an omen of good
luck in order to find water in the desert.
The
Etherus
Worm
The Etherus Worm, named after the
God of Lust, is a
particularly interesting creature. At roughly two spans long and half a span
in diameter, it is regularly mistaken for a snake. The female creature secretes
a thin, mucus-like film from its body during its mating season, and this film
can be collected and woven into transparent, shimmery clothing called
ether-flake.
The
Feylien
These insects nourish themselves on blood. It is this aspect which has
created a large demand for them. Many a healer is always on the lookout to
find or buy some of these creatures. They are highly sought after as they
are placed upon infected wounds to help draw out the infected blood.
Feylien are only valuable in the larvae stage, due to
the fact that when they mature not only do their feeding structures change,
but also the development of wings makes it more difficult for proper
placement.
The
FLUNKI
Flunkies are
small, quill-bearing rodents that dwell mostly in the
Thaelon area of Southern Sarvonia.
Odd creatures to behold, they can be aggressive if interfered with, and fight
furiously for food and territory, using long claws and sharp teeth. As they are
conspiciously colored, their only protection from predators are their long,
sharp spines which, when fully hardened, are almost unbreakable.
The
Garthook
A rather large bird, the Garthook is territorial and aggressive.
Their size makes them a perfect meal for family gatherings, and though they
are hard to raise and the meat they produce is dry, they are well worth the
time; recipes created for the meat of the Garthook is not to be missed.
The
Giant
Kraken
The Giant Kraken is a very
rare, very unseen sea-creature ít 8
gigantic tentacles. The only way they have been found is dead, washed
up upon the banks of the seas. Giant
Kraken are over 16 pygges in weight, and
over 40 peds in height. The largest Giant Kraken ever
found had a tentacle span of 10 peds. These massive
creatures are one of the most dangerous, largest, and still
unknown about creatures within
Caelereth. With their
strength they can even tear whole ships apart.
The
Golem
Golems are magic creatures. They are created by
mages or priests, composed of particular substances/subforms of elements and
usually have very limited orders and purposes, which are in most cases
related directly to the substance they consist of. Though they are endowed
with spirit, Golems are very simple-minded.
The
Gryphon
These famous beasts, with the head, forelegs and wings of a majestic eagle
and the strong body of a lion, are also called the "masters of the mountain
skies". Roaming the highlands of the Tandala, the High and the Low Fores or
the Magic Sickle at the west of Santharia, Gryphons are well known for guarding important places all over the realms.
The
Gryph
Gryphs are massively large avian creatures and undoubtedly one of the
largest birds hunting the skies. Generally friendly on contact these can be
trained to be fierce, fighting fowl. A loyal beast, these birds and certain
men share deep bonds that cannot be broken. Gryphs are spectacular birds and
suspected to bring good luck if seen.
The
Great
Wolverine
The Great Wolverine appears somewhat like a small-sized bear. Their large, rounded
head has small eyes and short rounded ears. Feasting mostly on frozen meats
and bone, these furry creatures have a mouth full of thirty-eight sharp teeth.
With short, muscular legs, the Great Wolverine has five toes on each foot with
long, razor sharp claws.
The
HAVACH
OX
The great Havach-Oxen (also
called simply Havachs, Quasi-Ox or also Platebeast), unique to
Nybelmar, are used as draftbeasts and
ridingbeasts. Plated beasts the size of elephants, with
powerful curving horns, they are nonetheless placid by nature and timid of
disposition. They prefer to herd together, and mate for life.
The
Hunting
Hound, Eophyrhim
The Eophyrhim Hunting
Hound is the domesticated wolf-assistant
to the dark elves of the Paelelon.
High-strung and yet very trainable, these dogs are sought out by nobles all
over Santharia.
The
HORSEFAY
The Horsefay is a very rare winged creature not even
half a ped in height. This tiny horse-like beast is very rare, but has been
found within the Quallian and
Auturian Forests.
It has been tamed by the elves of these
forests and sought out by the
Brownies, but rarely have any other races even
seen a Horsefay.
The
Hynde
The Hynde is a massive animal that is considered a part of the goat family.
They are sturdy and sure-footed animals covered with long gray to dark-gray
hair, which forms a fringe to just below the knees. This hair is thick and
coarse covering a soft woolly underfur giving them good protection from
their environment. They have a slight hump at their shoulders, which is pure
fat. This is believed they burn off for warmth when they go long periods
without food.
The
Inca
Tati Shapeshifter
Incas are
shapeshifters, who dont have any true form. When they do not choose their
form, they are seen as blueish grey clouds. They do however change into other
forms quite often, specifically the elemental forms that the creature lives in
and a creature that is common to that area. For example, if the creature lives
in the woods, then it will take the form of foliage of an
elf or a wolf.
The
INJÓH
The Injóh
is one of the smaller birds of Sarvonia, found in different forests on the continent, depending entirely on the season of the year.
The Injóh is often
captured and sold as a pet bird, this mostly because of its beautiful
singing and colorful feathers but also because it is believed that this
little bird attracts love.
The
IZAAC
Izaacs
(pronounced Izik) are small but very dangerous mammals. They have a fuzzy
and very thick fur coat that range from brown to black colored. A full-grown
Izaac weighs up to 8 ½ Hebs. Their mouths are about a
fore in circumference, which makes them able to lock
their jaw on most any sized limb. Izaacs live off of only one thing, blood,
which they can create all the nutrients needed out of. The most dangerous thing
about Izaacs is that once it has bitten its prey, their jaw locks to stop any
escape until all the blood needed is sucked. They are only seen at night which
they spend finding an easy prey to feed off from.
These creatures are incredibly slow due to their short and stumpy legs.
The Kiïvosh
Originally a legendary figure known from the Lands of the Barbarians. The Kiïvosh
is often seen as birdlike variety of a Mystran (a shadowlike phenomenon)
or as a simple raven, but most
often as a mixture
of fish and bird, diving through the Lands of Dreams into reality.
In Santharian mythology the Kiïvosh
is very often interpreted as a messenger of
the Goddess of the Scythe, Queprur.
The
Kingell
The Kingell is a rather elegant
bird, long-necked and wide-winged. His sharp beak denotes him as one of the
few hunters among the ground birds of Santharia, and also the only swimmer in
this classification. With web-pad feet he can take to the water with ease. His
meat is not usually selected for consumption, as the bird is fatty and hard
to cook. The Kingell has the ability to swim, and can dive beneath the
water's surface to hunt for fish. However, because its wings are not waterproof,
this is a rather dangerous practice for the Kingell.
The
LEAPOR
The Leapor is one
of the main sources of food for many predators of snowy, cold climates and are
part of the hare family. They are one of the quickest cold-weather creatures
living in such a climate due to their strong legs. However, most are known for
their huge ears nearly twice the size of their head that give them excellent
hearing, though they also have a refine sense of smell.
The
Lu'an
Moth
The Lu'an moth is probably the largest of the silk moths in
Caelereth. A fine silk type cloth is made out
of the cocoon of the mature caterpillar. The Lu'an
moth can be found from the Kanapan
Peninsula in the east to the Celeste Mountains in the west. As far north as
the forests around Chapel Fjord and as far south as the Tandala Highlands. For
unknown reasons this moth seems to be especially prevalent in the Wounds of
Sylvan Forest on the Kanapan Peninsula,
the Shaded Forest south of the Prominent Mountains and the Hovel Frond
Forest by Crystal Lake.
The
Ly'CAÓN
The Ly’caón
is a nomadic canine that inhabits the desertic areas of the
Sarvonian
continent.
A little smaller than the average wolf
this magnificent hunter is
organized in packs that
roam the desert. Ly'caóns
are known as vicious and savage, reputation that is rather undeserved since
these beasts can be tamed
and become quite loyal pets and excellent hunting hounds, as a fact they are
much less savage than their larger cousin,
the Cor’cutá.
THe
MaLISE
("HONEYBEE")
For hundreds of years the
people, animals, and plants have depended upon this bustling little insect
for their survival. The Malise, also known by its less formal name,
Honeybee, has become an indispensable creature in nature. Plants depend upon
this insect to deliver its pollen back and forth, while humanoids have made
the honey they produce part of their everyday lives.
The
Manticore
The Manticore is of a lion and a gryph, eventually of a scorpion too. Manticores possess the complete body
of the predator but are also endowed with enormous wings, furthermore - although this may
vary - they can have a spiked tail which reminds of the mentioned scorpion.
The
Mathmoor
The Mathmoor is the largest Sarvonian
ground bird, at a height of over two peds. It has thick legs and light,
fur-like feathers, as well as a viciously curved beak. Its size makes it
easy to see over the plains, but no smart predator would approach the
Mathmoor. The Mathmoor is territorial and easily angered. In
Northern Sarvonia,
where the Mathmoors are most abundant, they are domesticated and ridden like
horses.
The
MIMSY
The Mimsy, also
known as Striped Bandit, is a medium sized mammal that inhabits most of the
Sarvonian continent. It is about one
ped long from snout to tail tip where the long bushy tail is one fore long.
Being a very popular pet since it is easy to train and lovely to look at,
the soft fur however has also made it a favourite target for pelt makers as
they use it to make fur coats and thick warm blankets, to the distress of
many children who fear their favourite pet might end like this. Therefore
most domesticated mimsies wear a collar to keep hunters from killing them.
The
Mogliar
The Mogliar are small, about
.7 ped tall creatures. They are walking on two feet,
however, they stand hunched forward so that they
appear to be only .5 ped tall. They have thick, muscular bodies that are
covered in short, fine fur much like that of a mole.
The Mogliar have superior digging skills. They use their claws to tunnel
under the ground, and can use them as weapons. The Mogliar are not as stupid
as most think. It is possible for them to learn certain
elements of the languages of the races, and even possibly learn to
use several of their tools and weapons.
The
NIGHTBIRD
The Nightbird, also known as Shadow of
Death, Darkness Singer and Ghostbird, is a rather small bird, only four
palmspans long. It inhabits most of the forests in
Northern Sarvonia. This bird
has nocturnal habits and sleeps most of the day, hidden. It is dark brown or
black in colour with a single white stripe down the back (males).
The
NUL'TUM
The Nul’tum ("Walking Coat" in the
Kuglimz tongue) is approximately one ped in length and half a ped in height.
Short, powerful legs tipped with blunt claws hold up a barrel shaped body
that tapers toward the tail. The tail is flat and rounded. The Nul’tum’s fur
is so dense that it actually works as a water repellent, which allows it to
stay warm in the frigid northern waters.
Though it is an amphibious creature, the Nul'tum
tends to spend more time on land than in the water.
The
O'QUADAR
RiDINg SNAKE
Bright eyed and
scaly tailed with a few fangs in for good measure, the O'quadar Riding Snake
is probably the most friendly thing you'll ever meet. Coming from the far
off Linfalas Forest located at the Crimson Isles between
Sarvonia and
Nybelmar these things are quite content
to please. Everybody loves the O'quadar Riding Snake.
The
ORM
The Orm is a common small insect found
through most of
Caelereth. They are about a half to a bit larger than a nailsbreadth, covered in a dark colored armor, and
walk on six legs. They usually live in hives built from small pieces of wood,
leaves or dirt, or in an airy space under a rock. They are mindless little buggers, who annoy anybody who
have sugar, or other sweet things. Orms are ruled by a queen (size is usually six times larger than the average worker), whose main task is to lay small white eggs.
The
Oyster
Oysters are
two-shelled mollusks that mostly live off the coast of Southern Sarvonia. They
may be found as far northward as the Bay of Sky, but are most common in the
Yanthian Gulf and the Gulf of Maraya. They prefer temperate salt water, and
attach themselves to underwater coastal rocks where food is brought to them by
the constant motion of the waves.
The
Phoenix
Of all the winged creatures on the face of Aer'ai'chán, none is so mystical,
beautiful, or wondrous as the bird of flames, the legendary Phoenix. This awe
inspiring bird is rarely seen, and very little is known about it's origins.
Some strongly believe that it is a gods pet, let loose on the world now and
again, to give the people a glimpse of a gods powers.
The
Pit
Worm
Domesticated beast found at the isles of
R'unor. The larval stage of the lurker, the pit worm is a large grub like creature with a maximum size of around 3
peds in length and 1 meters high, with a soft white outer body and a dark head with rather
vicious looking ant-like mouth parts, and three bloodred eyes aranged in a triangular
pattern on
the forehead. They usually are slaughtered by the R'unorians at the age of 3 and their flesh is cut into segments for various dishes.
The
PSITTA (CHATTERBIRD)
The Psitta (plural: Psittae), also known as the Chatterbird,
is a small winged creature which is able to mimic sounds made by other
creatures or races. It prefers a warm climate and enjoys eating mainly
fruit. Popular as cagebirds among the nobility, the Chatterbird can be
trained to repeat simple sequences of sounds and even sentences in various
languages, although it is not sentient.
The
QUALLIAN SýS'NéAN
The Sýs'neán is an arboreal rodent found only in the dense forests of
Quallian,
and it measures barely 1 1/2 palmspans from head to tail.
It is easily recognized because of the unique feature that also gives it its name, two long and bushy tails that it keeps lifted and slightly curled over its back.
The
Quillý'Efér
The Quillý'Efér (Stýrásh
Quillý'Efér,
lit. "Dancing Fire") are
insect larvae approximately a
nailsbreadth in length. Their skin
is soft and transparent. They move by synchronizing thousands of muscles to help
them crawl. They live in the forests and woodland areas all over
Caelereth
and are nocturnal. The
elves use them as their light source at night and as a
warning device. If these insects sense an evil or unwelcome presence they stop
glowing and give off a shrill sound within their hardend curled shell.
The
Rahaz-Estár
Although snakes are usually akin to lizards one wouldn't
recognize this when viewing the gigantic Ráhaz'Estár, the living horror of
Southern Sarvonian Continent. It
resembles much more a nightmare of a snake combined with the strength and
size of a dragon.
So the Ráhaz'Estár or Giant Rock Snake is one of the great dangers a
traveller can encounter while crossing the desert of the Ráhaz‘Dáth. With
its length of up to seven peds it is one of the biggest predators of the
desert and its ability to melt with its surroundings while lying unmovingly
and waiting for its prey not seldom cause the death of incautious
travellers. Though being big and strong this snake nevertheless kills the
prey with its lethal venom.
The Shendar however, the nomadic
living tribe of the Ráhaz'Dáth, know how to find the snake, kill it and use
its valuable skin and bones for constructing their domes and making the
finest, light weight, but hardest armours known.
The
RED
DIAMOND
BUTTERFLY
The Red Diamond
Butterfly is from the same origin as the usual bug, a bug however with
beautiful wings. A fully grown Red Diamond Butterfly can become about one
palmspan in both height width. The bottom part of this little beauty is a
icicle shaped glass piece which is colored Red, which could be mistaken for
a real diamond. From this observance obviously derives the butterfly's name.
These creatures can live up to 1 ½ human year and they become fully grown
after about one year. The wings on the Red Diamonds are quite large compared
to their body, colored white, with a little stench of red, since they're
quite common and exists in about everyplace where there are flowers. They
are also considered as food for various other creatures in this world so all
the female kin of the Red Diamond Butterflies have the ability to camouflage
into a type of common flower when on the ground.
The
Rubit
A small amphibian, similar to a newt or lizard. The Rubit has a tapering
cylindrical body about two handlengths from tail tip to nose. Quadrapedal,
it scuttles along with the top joint of its legs horizontal to the ground
and the lower joints pointing down and backwards, so that it always looks
about to fall forwards.
The
SAND
VIPER
The Sand
Viper is the most dangerous known snake on the
Sarvonian continent. Even if it is most commonly only found in the desert of
Rahaz-Dath, some very few cases have been reported of some Sand Vipers being
found in the nearby Narfost Plain as
well. Besides being very poisonous the Sand Viper is also one of
Sarvonia’s most beautiful reptiles, it has
a beautiful yellow hide covered with white spots outlined in black. This hide,
when worked properly, can be turned into the most beautiful skin jackets and
boots.
The
Scorpion
Scorpions are secretive, nocturnal arachnids which can be spotted in
lands of arid climate, especially at deserts like the Santharian Rahaz-Dath or
at the continent of Aeruillin. The forward appendages of the Scorpions are
tipped with large pinchers and their long rear segment ends in a large, bulbous
stinger.
The
Ska'Kailn
The Ska'Kailn, also called "Snakeworm"
or just plain "Worm" in
human slang, range from many types around
the world. The normal, forest-loving
Ska'Kailn is about 1 and 2/3 peds long, with a tapering tail and a flat
gaping mouth. The Ska'Kailn have no face, it looks like a long serpent that
was cut with a knife at the middle, and the cut turned into a mouth.
Ska'Kailn are often featured in gladiator fights in
R'unor and Akdor, fighting each other for
prize money.
The
Spiderturtle
The Spiderturtle, also called the "Spittle",
is a 1/3 ped long creature, with eight spindly, armored legs ending in
three-pointed fins. These are connected to a disc-shaped body, armored just
as well as the rest, if not more. They have four eyes set just above a small
mouth, a mouth with tiny, sharp teeth. It is blue-gray in color.
When boiled, spiderturtle meat is absolutely delicious, and it is a
well-paid-for delicacy among the noblemen of
Santharia.
The
Taenish
The Taenish is a small bird, about four spans in both length
and height. It is easy to take care of and its meat is easy to cook, making
it a good bird for farming and consumption. Its drab look and lack of intelligence
makes it easier to do away with when supper time arrives.
The
TAREP
The Tarep is
categorized in the rabbit family and is known for its small, rounded body,
often considered the “cutest” of the rabbit family. They can be found in
both the wild and in captivity. Like most rabbits, it “walks” with its front
feet and hops with its hind feet unless it needs to move extremely fast to
avoid being a snack to predators.
The
Tryster
An Asthu’oc
("Tryster" or "Three-Shell") is a large trivalve mollusc, about the size of a
male human hand. The creature actually resembles three hands cupped together at
the palms and fingertips. Its formal name comes from the
Styrásh
"asthar",
meaning "three", and
"thu’oc", meaning
"shell", but
human fishermen usually call
them Trysters. The exterior is a soft grey colour, heavily ridged and studded
with darker bits of grit which have been incorporated into the calcium buildup
as the shell grows. The interior is coated with nacre, or "pearl-father", a
shining iridescent substance which protects the tender animal inside. Any grit
that makes its way past the delicate fringe that edges the shell openings is
also coated with pearl-father and eventually turns into a pearl itself.
The
Tsor-Shotak
The Tsor-Shota (TSOR SHOW-TAH, singl. Tsor Shotak) or
Giant Mountain Lizards, are not considered beautiful beasts. These three-ped
long monstrosities remind the viewer of a cross between a lizard, cow, and
an insane amount of flesh. The only part of them that could be considered
attractive is their hide, which is formed of strangely lusterless black
scales.
The
Ulgaroth
If size is all that matters, than the Ulgaroth would be a dangerous foe, but in fact this
is not the case. Indeed the gigantic Ulgaroth is a rather harmless animal as it nourishes
itself from herbs and fruits only. The barbarians of the northlands where the Ulgaroth can
be found even use these creatures as a means of transportation.
The
Unicorn
The Unicorn is a
mythical horse-like beast, with a horn attached on its forehead. Unicorns
can live to be hundreds, perhaps even thousands of years old if left
untouched by evil hands. There is little genuine fact known about the
animal, due to it being mainly a creature of myth and legend. The
elves see in the Unicorn is the symbolic
animal of Foiros, God of the Sun,
representing in its uniqueness and purity
the sun, the Injèrá, and thus the High
Goddess Avá the One, She Who Dreameth Forth All Things.
The
VERHON
The Verhon is a social fowl
bird, living with up to sixty others all congregating in the same vicinity.
Spending little time in play, these birds are in an all out quest to survive
in the harsh glacial ecosystem. A rare bird but not prized by any means. It
lives on a delicate thread between extinction and life as is most of its
ecosystem.
The
Vilerat
The Vilerat, to most appearances, is a slightly green-skinned
ratlike creature. On average they are two handlengths
long and one handspan wide. They are covered with
green-tinged fur except for the wormlike tail, have a pointed nose,
whiskers, and two very noticable incisors. Often they carry parasites.
The
Whale
Whales, also known as the "First-Singers"
or "Carteloreen", are large,
warm-blooded, gregarious creatures that have chosen to live completely in
and underwater, although they are air-breathers. They are variously regarded
as semi-sentient beings, the bards of the ocean, and valuable sources of
oils and fats. Friends to the merfolk,
capable of complex and eerie melodies, and harvested by the
Avennorians, these great
beasts are still shrouded in mystery to many people.
The
Whistling Beetle
Whistling Beetles are large bugs, about 6 cm long and 3 cm wide. Theyve
got 6 paws with of tiny hairs on it and two horns on their head, which they
can feel with. The beetles are gray, with the exception of an orange shell on
their back. The shell stands a bit upwards, like a cows horn and ends
in a point. The shell is used mainly by the beetle to store its food in. However,
the top of the shell isnt used to store food, but to make whistling kinds
of noises, of which the beetle grants his name.
The
WHITE
BEAR
The White Bear is a
large carnivorous beast, which can mainly be found in the vast
Cyhalloian Tundra and in the
Icelands of
Northern Sarvonia.
It is known for its good swimming skills and especially their unusual "Death
Ritual", where they search for crimson rose
fields when they know that they are going to die. Smelling the sedative
effect of the flower they enter a deep sleep from which they never wake up
again.
The
White Spiral
Butterfly
This small butterfly has a 3-4 cm wingspan. The body of the
Butterfly is two segmented. The front consisting of a
head with two large eyes on either side and two short antennae rising from
between them. The White Spiral can be found from the coastal plains to the alpine
meadows on the northern continents of Arkor, Cyhalloi, Nybelmar
and Sarvonia.
The
WOOD OWL
Wafting on silent wings from branch to branch while the pale
moon shines above, the Woods Owl is a perfect target for the uninspired
bard. But don't let its serene and wise appearance fool you, this bird is
potentially one of the most effective hunters out there.
Mice, rats, smaller
birds, even the occasional snake fall victim to this nocturnal predator.
The
ZEIPHYRIAN
HuNTING HoUND
Quaelhoirhim elves are one of the
few wood elven tribes to keep "domestic" dogs, although they tend to roam around
in packs much of the time, so perhaps may only be counted as semi-domesticated.
The hounds seem to have their origins in the alliance with the dark elves in the
First Sarvonian War (see the Eophyrhim
elves). It is believed that the
Quaelhoirhim elves manage to aquire several of these sought after animals.
The Zeiphyrian animal is a
slightly glossy, slightly shorter and stockier version of the original and is
often used as an all purpose working, hunting
or guarding dog by many many tribes, as the
Quaelhoirhim love
to trade, and these dogs have found usages in many different communities.
The
zYLOTH
The Zyloth is an
enormously huge, strange, and most immensly powerful beast. It can be
thought of as a dragon if you want, without the
wings, yet it makes up in intensity what is lost in the wings. Many times
people report foam fuming out of the mouth, and that they are rabid killing
machines. This is not to far from the truth. By no means are these monsters
of beasts evil, yet they carry out a manor which strictly states they are
dominate.
