Here's something for all those impatient guys at the Forum, who want to get an idea what's going on here discussion-wise. The catchwords and dates represent the backbone of later detailed stuff we need to write, and probably you won't get all of what is being posted below because you don't know the context precisely. But we'll refine things further, and it should give you an approximate idea what we're planning here. We'd also need better names for certain Ages - in case you have some ideas, please let us know!
[edit]How convenient of the webmaster to leave himself logged in on his computer. I've just added in the results of todays discussions. In the next post I'll try to post some comments to show you a little of the 'why' of all this.

[edit2] Further updates were added now.

AGE OF CHANGE (50.b.S.-172)
78 b.S. - Birth of Marzevash
70 b.S. - Birth of Aelric Salazath (father earned his family name at the Battle of Salazar)
62 b.S. - Battle at Alvang
60 b.S. - Battle of Hegedorn
60 b.S. - Birth of Marzevach II. (died 15 b.S. in a hunting accident)
58 b.S. - Birth of Armeric (died 30 b.S. in battle in Hegedorn)
47 b.S. - Birth of Raegash (abdicates, Queen dies)
46 b.S. - Marzevach marries one of his previous mistresses, Valferia. A few months later (note, not 9
) a fourth son is born, Syveric.
45 b.S. - Birth of Santhros Salazath
- The Tharian King Marzevash is part of the Alliance, but needs Aelric as ambassador to negotiate between the races. This brings Marzevash in an unfortunate position, as he cannot collect the product of his fame, while Aelric is being seen as the innitiator of the Alliance and is very much liked by the people of all sides.
Armeric killed in battle by the volcano (Hegedorn), second son killed during hunting accident (15 b.S.).
18 b.S. - Marriage to the Caltharian Duchess Ahreng Cara'Jeshanneh (respected, but not powerful, daughter no. 4)
14 b.S. - Birth of Santhros' son Laenthris
13 b.S. - Assassination of Aelric
King Marzevash fears to lose his powers and plots an assassination of Aelric. The plot succeeds, but several representatives from other races are killed as well unintentionally. This causes the plot to be uncovered. However, Marzevash's guilt or innocence of course cannot be proven entirely, but he abdicates to satisfy the growing unrest.
12 b.S. - There is a lot of resentment towards King Marzevash. So the king abdicates in favour of his son Raegash (he's at the Order of Armeros, Santhros is there as well) and flees to Narvoss, taking with him his bastard son Syveric. Later that year Raegash renounces the throne and Marzevach denounces Raegash as true heir to the Tharian throne and makes Syveric his heir.
10 b.S. - Santhros become Tharian king
Raegash (wanted initially to go into the monastery) takes the throne, but due to his beliefs, he gives up the throne and gives it to the son of Aelric, Santhros, who already accompanied his father during his missions. Raegash is a friend of Santhros. The council agrees.
9 b.S. - Birth of Santhros' second son, Thaelnoric
4 b.S. - Birth of Santhros' daughter, Shaelriga
0 - Santhros unifies the southern kindgoms with the north.
- Establish some very profitable trade relations, set up tribes and regions together, which hadn't been trading before
- Negotiations between two major factions having problems with each other were initiated
- Military campaign in the far south, defeating a rogue nobleman, ideally a Stratanian
14 - Death of Laenthris's first wife during childbirth.
21 - Marriage of Laenthris to second wife, who has 5 daughters.
27 - Santhros dies in his sleep
27 - Laenthris becomes king at the age of 41
33 - Birth of Staranos, son of Thaelnoric the Loyal (fighting for Santhros, so the army supported Thaelnoric and will support Staranos later).
46 - After having 5 daughters Laenthris wife goes into the monastery after giving child to a male heir, 2days later the child dies after been born sick. Woman is seen as cursed and makes place for another woman.
46 - Laenthris marries Phelossa (the Lucky)
52 - Campaign of Thaelnoric and his son Staranos, where father dies in battle during a surprise attack, Staranos is proving himself, wipes out the enemies and earns his merits.
60 - Birth of first and only son of Laenthris, Mantheros. Big celebrations, the line seems to be finally secured.
Within months of feast Laenthris' wife Phelossa has a suspicious accident, leaving her crippled. Suspicions lands on Staranos.
70 - Santharian Calendar was introduced
77 - Laenthris dies, aged 91
77 - Mantheros takes the throne, but Staranos claims it as well.
Mantheros managed to escape with a few supporters thanks to the citizens’ help. The army is supporting the usurper.
However, Erpheronian traders took the fugitive prince to the east (Carmalad), where he finds willing supporters in the face of Avennorian, Sophronians and Caltherian warriors. Stratanians support Staranos due to a previous compaign with his father.
The rest of the Sarvonian continent, with a few exceptions, is opposing Mantheros, mainly due to Staranos' horrible reputation. The elves support the young pretender, because he is very close to their ideals, but are unable to unite and provide a considerable support. These tribes ignore Staranos and proclaim Mantheros their king.
78 - The League and the cause of a united Sarvonian continent faced a terrible situation. Cumragane sent Hecuran, the so-called "Elven Lion", on a quest to join the elves and form an army with every warrior available. This army was to be placed at Mantheros’ disposal.
Cumragane, descendant of the first human leader Allengard of the League, then takes all men recruited to the League, the descendants of the exiled Helcrani, a total force of about thousand warriors, and heads to Helcrah, his homeland. There, in the Gathering building, he reveals himself as descendant of the Sostrian kings and leader of the League.
He urges the Helcrani to fight for Mantheros and finds many supporters there, but nobody would campaign with him, because they obey only to the Anactar of Milkengrad, since there is no Santharian king.
On the contrary, he recognizes Anactar Semgon’s authority and places himself in his disposal in the war against Staranos’ tyranny. In the Great Hall, the building where the Fratric Assembly takes place, the two of them are confronted as to be heard by every citizen.
Semgon supports Staranos, Cumragane arrested.
79 - Cumragane freed in Milkengrad by his supporters helped by the populace, while Staranos tries to encircle Mantheros, a chase takes place. The Centoraurians, when they see their families on the side of the righteous king, realize their mistake and abandon Semgon with the tyrant.
The tyrant manages to escape and manages to reach Hèckra, the volcano. He was unlucky once more. Hèckra erupts once more, burning him and his men. Cumragane, Sasirra (lynx) and many of his men are burned too as they chase the tyrant in hairbreadth distance. Landmark of the dead Cumragane (lava).
80 - Mantheros King.
82 - Marries Eyelian noblewoman, Ilee'ala.
83 - Twins are born (two girls).
105 - Death of Mantheros
105 - Daughter takes over (Sirthala), noblemen hope to get influence on her and they want to get into the royal line.
110 - She renames capital to from Quia'antá to Santhala.
114 - Marriage of Sirthala, Sirthala stays the dominant person instead of stepping down from her position for the king, 2 children.
115 - Daughter is born.
116 - Mantheros II. is born.
138 - Sirthala abdicated, Mantheros II.
166 - Death of Mantheros II. due to old age.
166 - Thaenos takes over
172 - Dies of a Santharian disease.
GOLDEN AGE OF KINGS (172-547)
172 - Ascension of the Erpheronian King X to the Santharian Throne
Queen gives birth to a strong son. Queen is barren from now on. Son is switched by another powerful Erpheronian family shortly after birth by a midwife, after the son has died (father and mother of the dead are both involved). Queen never saw the kid. King dies, no heir.
Council of Linked Hands gets increased power because the Santhros line is apparently dead, so instead of purely counceling the Linked Hands now decide upon the succession directly. First chosen king is another Erpheronian, Y, the older son of the plotter.
King I
- Better organization of governmental structures, taxation can be better regulated, more income for the king
- Messenging system strongly improved for administrative/taxation purposes, for example also monasteries, temples were included.
- In this context official Santharian uniforms were introduced with the Santharian emblem, the hands. The Santharian official therefore since then are referred by the people as the "hands" (of the king). Ranking system was also introduced.
- During this time the Móh'rónn was defeated, ending the last thread to the Santharia (179)
- Title "Santhran" was invented
King II (Cultural King)
- First steps from a patronized system to a guild system, mainly to control magical power, first official dependencies of Ximax are instituted in other major towns, testing and teaching
- Standardization of Currency ("Golden" Age)
- Major Stormcloak expansions (see Stormcloak entries, need to be adjusted, mainly king II+III)
- Copying and spreading of scrolls, sharing knowledge between artisans, musicians, painters, scribes etc., thus improving cultural understanding, leading to more effiency by teaching each other about new techniques.
King III (Architecture King)
- Lots of architectural changes in the city, monuments were built, the palace was expanded
- The Great Santhalan Library is founded, collecting all kinds of scrolls from the whole kingdom
- Sorain (the Voice) was introduced to communicate affairs between the clerics and the government
TIME OF INTERREGNUM (547-610)
547 - Destruction Santhala
Destroyed by the Móh'hái. Sacrifice of the last Axhái. Death of the King, most of the council as well, leaving a vacuum of power. A period without kings ensues.
Clerical Orders:
- Order of the White Knights
- Order of Armeros
- (Order of Foiros)
Military Orders:
- Order of the Fallen
- Order of the Wing
- (Order of the Sea)
Fighting takes place between the Orders and the cities, mercenaries etc. Some of the worldly Orders finally joined the clerical Orders, finishing the Time of Interregnum.
THE CLERICAL AGE (610-825)
The Clerical Age is a time where the 4 elemental "archbishops" (better name needed)have heavy influence on the political agenda and finally instruct a puppet king. In the course of this Age the time shift back again.
Power centers of the "archbishops":
- Sanctuary of the Twelve in Elsreth (vashamethar)
- Sanctuary of the Twelve in Milkengrad (pheramethar)
- Sanctuary of the Twelve in Chrondra (dominating, so it became capital eventually (motamethar))
- Sanctuary of the Twelve in Varcopas (maramethar)
- Fifth: Northern Rimmerins Ring, highest elevation in the mountains - "Sky Fortress", here the meetings take place between the so-called "archbishops"
- The Voice: sorain (the speaker)
- Archbishop: methar (plural: metharín)
- Bistum: arameth, plural: aramethín (vashameth, pherameth, marameth, motameth)
Comment Curgan:
It will be hard for the Helcrani to have an archbishop of the 12 since they consider them inferior and believe to Ava, just like the elves (who along with dwarves form two of the Helcrani clans). Maybe they could have an archbishop of Ava, as a heresy...
(click on map to enlarge)
Clerical influence of the Four Main Clerics
610 - Founding of Kingdom Z, coronation of King A, supported by the 4 "archbishops".
Capital is Chrondra, Sophronian king. More and more parts of central Santharia join this kingdom due to various reasons: food, power, rebellions are supported by the main kingdom.
(offsprings are succesors again)
Death of a powerful "archbishop"
Rise of a powerful Avennorian nobleman B, who eventually becomes king
Build up of the invasion forces from the south
ca. 780 - Stormcloak guild ventures south and interfers with trade from Stratania, causing a conflict between the northern kingdom and Stratania. The already existing bond between the Stratanians and Shan'Thai grows even stronger until to the point where they can send troops to occupy Stratanian land.
Money is paid to the Stormcloaks to componsate for moving supporting troups. Sometimes the money however has dissappeared - this gives rise to many stories of treasure hunting, some of these treasures are supposed to be guarded even by monsters.
799 - Conquering of Doranthakar
822 - Shan'X Landing: Landing of Shan'Thai forces east of the Sharadon Forest
ERA OF SOUTHERN WARS (825-1075)
9 power centers exist in the north below the Tandala around the following towns:
- Nyermersys as citystate
- Astran
- Voldar
- Milkengrad
- Ximax
- Caelum
- Elsreth
- Carmalad
- Parda
- Kingdom X
- Kingdom of Stratania
During this time the guild system is further strengthened, because the noblemen are too busy warfaring and the people have to lookm how to organize themselves.

End of Clerical Age 825
825 - Ascension of King B to the throne
825 - Stopping the first wave of attacks coming from the south from Shan'X Landing.
Major battle at Griffon's Marl and a Battle of Klinsor takes place, invading army is held up at the Seguila River (named after him), they cannot take Klinsor however at the Battle of the Mead of Lynlith.
King B remains victorious for now, Shan'Thai takes Ciosa.
Invading army marches west of Ciosa along the Yanth River. Coming from Castle Ironwell the defenders attack the Thairians all the way along the Yanthian Gulf coast from the back, major battle at the Fens of Yanthai. A major supply line is destroyed that way, causing morale to drop. This force is completely extinguished - many ghost stories are related to the deaths of the Fens here.
False messages/mixed up signals arrive from Klinsor at Ciosa that Klinsor fell, so that the Thairians move further west and north.
Invasion is also stopped at the Mashdai River with ships trying to move up to Marcogg. Ships are set on fire, troops have to land on the shores and they are scattered. Some move north, some south. A great deal is moving south again, seeing that they have no chance to stand against the defenders, trying to reach Ciosa. The defenders send forces after them. These forces pillage and plunder etc.
Scattered army from invading forces will make a good story. Either in the North or the South of the Mashdai River. They become marauders, bandits could also join them. Maybe some take a small town.
833 - Conquering of Klinsor by the Thairians
836 - Conquering of Lorehaven
838 - The two passes south of Sleeping Titan Ouan Dhay (Dhay = pass) and Khamon Dhay are taken by the Thairian forces and secured.
844 - Quarantree is taken, ensuring that Ciosa cannot be reached anymore from the North by the enemy. Several clashes between the armies take place.
845 - Conquering of Ravenport
845 - Greywold taken as the inhabitants give up and want to stay neutral
845-849 - Several skirmishes between the Tethinrhim elves and the Thairians. The defenders try to get Kairean warriors on their side, and there is loose support.
846 - 856 - Siege of Three Arcs Keep, but no achievements. Siege is given up. Because of the unstrategic placement of this keep there was never a serios attempt to take it. Therefore the people there feel superior to others and very self-centered.
849 - Major Battle between Kairean Warriors and Thairian Forces in the Fields of Aurium
Started with an attack of the elves on a camp station. The elves win. Humans stay out for a while.
856 - Hot summer (Summer of Fire): The whole world goes through a very hot time. Even in the north there was mayor melting and flooding.
Burning down of the forested area south of Lake Shatimar, what is now the Tolonian Heath. Further skirmishes ensue, but both sides see that there needs to be a diplomatic solution.
856 - Peace Agreement, the humans get the area until the Y'rom Coast, the elves won't be attacked anymore.
859 - Taking of Yantelian
861 - Taking of Twynor
862 - Castle Aut'aye is taken after a 3 years siege, the northernmost possible point for the attackers to move before Marcogg is reached.
The campaign comes to a standstill, and the defenders still are busy with securing the north, making the crossing of the bridges to the south impossible.
862-872 - Settling down in the conquered regions
877 - The built fleet crosses the Gulf of Maraya and moves into the Thaehelvil River, take Brinsley. Chylikis stays neutral like Varcopas. In the same year Vezash gives up and lets the attackers pass.
877 - Taking of the castle Greenstone (Rehnos = greenstone).
878 - The Thairians arrive at former Santhala and start construction of a military base, preparing for a larger siege of Onved.
879 - Onved gives in before the siege even started as the noblemen leading the town enable the Thairians to take the city. Onved remains unharmed, but the population is at unrest and doesn't support the measures taken by its city council.
880-884 - The northern Thairian troops move southeast. The attack takes place with three pronge. One part of the army moves along the Upper Mashdai, destroying bridges, while the other one move straight southeast through the Huiscen Plains towars Chrondra.
884 - Transportation of ships through the area between the Auturian Woods and the Zeiphyr (need name for passageway). Thairians reach the Elsashal Falls.
884 - The Tharians move via the Lower Mashdai towards Nathemly, where they land, preparing their surprise attack on Chrondra. They take out the bridge south of the town to prevent support from Marcogg, where the defending troops have amassed.
884 - Three pronge attack on Chrondra. At the same a large fake attack is initiated at Marcogg, so that the whole area is in turmoil. Chrondra, the capital of the new kingdom, is taken rather quickly.
Marcogg however still doesn't fall, though it cannot support Chrondra efficiently and is helpless at the retaking of Chrondra. Marcogg sends out messengers to the North to ask for support.
885 - In the meantime the Thairians conquer the area northwest of the Kresek River including Rolyril.
886 - Taking of Parthanul and Sunth on the east coast.
888 - Parda is taken by the Thairans, which eventually brings the North into the war as well.
889-899 - Retaking of Parthanul and Sunth by supporting Caltharian forces, shipped in by the Stormcloaks guild, mving over Crazy Woman pass. In the following decade constant conflict takes place at the east coast above the Mashdai.
901 - Onved Rebellion: A rebellion is initiated by the minor nobels and the population. With support of Kyranian forces they manage to take over control of the city again. The former government, which betrayed the population, flees and is cornered at Scythe Grove, where they meet their deaths and their heads are returned to the city on spikes.
901-911 - Major battle rage in the area northwest of the Mashdai Reservoir, bringing in further support from the Centoraurians and Kyranians.
904 - Caltharians move to Rolyri and liberate it.
911 - The Santhalan military camp is finally destroyed
912 - Fort Snowcap is liberated
913 - Simsy is liberated
915 - Expeditionary force of Chrondra is caught by surprise at the Shadow Trail, surrounded by rebellious forces with Kyranian and Centoraurian support. They are surrounded and massacred by Lorenguai, which leaves Chrondra considerably weakened. The Shadow Trail gets the reputation of being haunted due to these events. People wouldn't want to travel along this section at night if they can avoid it.
915 - Retaking the bridges at the hamlet of Kenerun and also at Nathembley.
916 - Chrondra is finally retake. As the town is heavily damaged by the severe fighting, Marcogg will eventually revert back to the capital of the region.
917 - Retaking of Goutherthin
920 - Brinsley is retaken, so that the rest of the west is completely liberated now with the help of the northern forces.
920-930 The Thairians are driven back to the area around Greywold and the easternmost settlements at the mouth of the Mashdai are further secured by the Stormcloaks to guarantee future trade and provide the necessary supplies.
931 - Battle at the Ouan Dhay, borders are finalized for the next three decades.
931-961 - Readjustments of powers.
935 - Shan'Thai make an alliance of conquest with the Shan'Chahalynth. A council of Dukes is set up in Marcogg, discussing further steps of the military campaign against Shan'Thai.
942 - Retaking of Parda, then Nommeros.
961 - Attack on Marcogg with reinformencents from the alliance of Shan'Chahalynth. Major battles at the Lambs Grounds and the Urshrom's Downs, down until the Twynor Farmsteadings.
961 - Army of Marcogg is allowed safe passage through the Auturian Woods by the Tethinrhim Elves. They attack Klinsor, supported by the troops of Three Arcs Keep, which has held so far against the invaders.
962 - Defending forces are attacking from the south, moving up again towards Yanthelian. The Lamb Grounds is now defended by the involved Kairean warriors of the Tethinrhim elves. The Thaireans are eventually pushed back south of the Caeytharian Mountains.
962 - Shan'Chahalynth retakes Klinsor after being delayed for the main campaign. These forces were forced to retake the city, which they didn't expect from the Thairians. The power now shifts within the alliance to Shan'Chahalynth and the position can be defended for another two decades by the new troups.
965-985 - Marduran becomes main port of the defending forces, initiating major sea battles near Ciosa, the sea battles at the Adanian coast now dominate, also in the Gulf of Maraya. Lots of skirmishes take place in the southern area around Griffin's Marl in the meantime.
985 - A major Centoraurians force finally arrives from the north and takes Rhenos castle, representing the a turning point in this the battle about the southern territories, being supported by the elves.
986 - Ravenport is liberated.
988 - Lorehaven is liberated.
990-998 - Siege of Castle Thunderclaim.
998-1005 - Battles around Klinsor, ending with the retaking of Klinsor.
1011-1025 - Most areas south of Griffin's Marl are reconquered, only Shan'X Landing remains.
1035-1040 - Sea battles against the main harbours of Doranthakkar, cutting of the last supplylines towards Ciosa.
1049 - Siege of Ciosa and retaking of Ciosa
In the meantime the relationship between the Stratanians and Shan'Thai has severely suffered. Due the long-lasting war profits are reduced and supplies cannot be provided efficiently. The Stratanians break off most of their connections and focus on the Zarathians in order to trade.
1062 - Destruction of Shan'X Landing, finally winning the war against the South. The Stratanians also eventually support this last mission.
Isles of Ram become a thorn in the North side, so that the Erpheronians have to stop trade with the isles of Quios (Stormcloaks guild). The Ram fleet is a combination of many nations' ships. Makes it easier to attack other like kind.
AGE OF REBUILDING (1062-1144)
After the Southern Wars 4 power centers in the north remain, plus Nyermersys as city state: Parda, Helcrah, Nermeran and Ximax. In the south the Kindgdom of Stratania still exist, plus two city states, Bardavos and Varcopas.
1063 - Council of Elsreth
Remaining power parties meet. An agreement is made between most parties except the ones mentioned above. Finally a Twin-Kingdom is reinstated.
South: Serphelorian Queen (named after old kingdom)
North: Tharian King (Santhros line family Salazath returns, e.g. birthmark, amulett carried in the family, true line is rediscovered)
3 generations until the North and the South unite. Balls of Parda: romance between southern daughter and the son from the north. Both die. Southern son and a a daughter from the north - after their deaths they marry, arranged stuff. Parents are somehow involved in the deaths of the children and feel guilty, that's why they arrange the marriage.
(click on map to enlarge)
Age of Rebuilding after the Treaty of Elsreth 1063
1110 - Trading relations with Shan'Thai are carefully picked up again and increase in the course of time again to the former level.
1111 - Stormcloaks are finally allowed in Strata (entry adjustment).
1144 - Kingdoms unite at the Age of Rebuilding
From now on the firstborn is always the next ruler, be it male or female.
AGE OF DISCOVERY (1144-1440)
1150-1180 - Rebuilding of Santhala
In this period Santhala again becomes the Santharian capital, or more precisely: efforts are undertaken to rebuild most parts of it, on other, better foritfied locations at the same area. This new huge district with the new palace should be called "New-Santhala". In the course of time this district became larger and larger, finally the name "New-Santhala" was used for the whole town.
ca. 1200 - Parda and Nommeros join the Santharian kingdom
1167 - Rediscovery of the Great Santhalan Library
1332 - 1335 Whenston the Slightly Crazed
Whenston was responsible for a huge rise (and subsequent sinking) in the Amethyst’s popularity when he decreed purple to be the colour of nobility, reserved for those of high blood, and redid his entire throneroom in cut-amethyst mosaics…
ca. 1400 - The Helcrani become part of the Santharian Kingdom again
AGE OF HAVOC (1440-1540)
A series of tyrannic kings reigns over Santharia for an unspecified period of time (no less than 50 years). Perhaps they are usurpers of the throne that rose as stewards and set aside the legitimate dynasty. The old dynasty (Santhros line) hides in order to avoid execution, Vontron Forest. The elves protect them remembering the ancient friendship, maybe even the League helps this line.
A series of revolts break out all these years. The Erpheronians belonging to the old kingdom represent the backbone of the royal regiment, since they are militaristic and autocratic. Sanguia, Manthria and Xaramon support the tyrants as well since they are the center of the Empire and are greatly favoured.
1438 - Fleets amasses Yanthrian Gulf and the Gulf of Maraya
The Stratanians fear an attack looming and prepare countermeasures, sending out an assassin (Templars of the Black Pearl?).
1438 - Freetown of Varcopas becomes part of Stratania
1440 - Assassination of the Tyrant organized by the Stratanians
1441 - Son of Tyrant lashes back
Then hell brokes loose. The Centoraurians revolt and Vardynn is turned into a battlefield, since the Erpheronians are fanatic royalists (cause the Tyrant is an Erpheronian, with the name Dekron). Nermaran is annexed. Cruelties take place in Enthronia to ensure that the Caltherians remain loyal to the central authority. Ximax declared is neutrality in the progressing conflict. Stratania are invaded by the royalists - they take Varcopas and Strata.
1442-1445 - Wars in the South
Varcopas sieged (longer siege, but eventually they get in, underwater barriers are breached after a major storm), Strata (1443) conquered (naval attack from the east).
Santhros' heirs are welcomed in Milkengrad, the town hides these people.
Helcrani with the help of the elves of the Vontron (?) conquer territory until the Dorashi River.
1443 Helcrani takes Caelum, Naios revolts when seeing the Helcrani approach and becomes an allied city-state of the Centoraurians.
1444 Caltharia revolts successfully but is defeated eventually again and the area is reoccupied.
1445 Varcopas conquered
1445 King fears the free thinkers of Bardavos and wants to state an example, marshes in coming from Varcopas and destroys most of the city.
1451 Voldar is besieged and taken relatively easily by the Helcrani due to treachery, taken by surprise.
In Santhala the defeated general holds council with the king, after an argument he slays the tyrant king. He flees up North, leaving the south in turmoil, gathers further support and freesm Voldar eventually in the next year (1452).
Another general takes over the southern kingdom (at the age of 40).
1453 Helcrani send liberating force (small fleet) to Varcopas. With the help of the Varcopasians and the waterguide trick they manage to regain the harbour. They come to assist marking the reconciliation for the Stratanian invasion some 2000 years before.
1454 Thalambath liberates Strata.
At this point the political borders exist for the province what later would become the Santharian province of Truban.
1455 The General Tyrant (southern guy) grants the Truban area their independence, but demands an annual tribute from the Truban area.
1455 Contact of the East-Rimmerings Ringers (former Sophronia) with Milkengard, asking for support.
1456 The Centoraurians are offered peace by the tyrant to keep the territories that once belonged to Centorauria if they pay an annual tribute. The Centoraurians deny since they want to keep the occupied territories and ensure a free East-Rimmerings Ring (former Sophronia), because there are several cities, who want to break free. They send troups to east Sanguia to support the revolution from Caelum/Naios along the Argor and Hog, along Xythrian Ridge. Before they reach Hog they receive message that Milkengrad is being attacked.
1457 In late spring the Erpheronians and the Royalist invade the Efirhal (making an alliance) and lay siege to Milkengrad. However, after 53 days of siege they are cut off and encircled as reinforcements arrive from the south from Hog and the Erpheronian alliance is eventually defeated in the battle of Milkengrad.
Merit goes to Stratanian sailors who supplied the besieged city through the sea. A peace treaty with the royalists is signed. Centorauria keeps the Kyranian territories and East Rimmerins Ring gains independence. The war agains Erpheronia continues.
At this time an heir of the Santhros line is brought to Ximax for protection.
1460 North (Nermeranian Erpheronians) and South Vardynn (Helcrani) sign a peace treaty.
(click on map to enlarge)
Map of the Peace Treaty of 1460
1466 Eastern Rimmerins Ring is annexed by the royalists
1466-1477 Relative stability
1476 Grothunc's father is born in Ximax.
1477 War between the Royalists and Helcrah over the independence of Ximax. North Vardynn (Nermeran) interfers and the Royalist prevail.
1480 Peace treaty between Helcrah & the Royalists.
Helcrah (South Vardynn) loses Naios and Caelum after losing the battles. Ximax is annexed by the Royalists. Grothunc's grandfather, loses his Ximaxian wife, and his eldest son and flees to Varcopas and hides in the desert.
1482 Southern General dies (old age), another powerful commander gets the reign.
1482 Northern General gives power as well to new leader.
1491 The area east of the Ancythrian Sea and the Heath of Jernais area is annexed by Nermeran, first major achievement after the new general took over. The Ancyros region is pretty much destroyed.
1493 Flea War
War against Strata that ends several months later. It was called the Flea War, because it started because of a Stratanian and a Shan'Thai children argued over a "flea" insult in Shan'Thai. When adults interferred a minor incident occured. Minor street fights took place. Each kingdom considered it a grave insult and soon the war escalated. Shan'Thai ships destroy house of Strata merchant, they defend themselves etc.
Once its over the trade connections take a while to get back to full swing.
1499 Grothunc is born at the Ráhaz'Dáth.
1499 The area east of the Ancythrian sea revolts including the Ancyros area (already part of Nermeran), but without success. The Ancyros area still suffers from the major demolition caused during the 1491 battles.
1501-1502 Civil war in the main kindgom (Santharia), due to the fact that no military successes could be achieved. Also the general was not very much liked, he had various escapades (or was even said to have raped a Seyellan priestess after trying to get his future told, but didn't get the answers he wanted, so he demolished the temple etc.) All the clerics and many of the populace turn against him.
He is attacked from a general coming from the southeast. While these two are battling for the power a third general in the North is securing the kingdom by tricking the Nermerans and the Helcrani into a war against each other:
Transport of dwarves around the Fores towards Nyermersys. General raids the transport, kills the dwarves, steals the gold, with indicators that the Helcrani did it. The dwarves and Nermeran think that the Helcrani did it, and everyone turns against the Helcrani. Battle everywhere! Mean general even tries to support both parties etc.
The raids of the Goblins intensify at the whole northern borders of Nermeran, during the conflict between Helcrah and Nermeran first major incursion take place of the Goblins. Nermeran has not enough forces to defend the northern border line properly. Astran is taken first.
1503 Famine in central Santharia.
1503 The Eastern Rimmerins guys (Sophronians) revolt again as they see battle raging in the south, but the Northern General manages to suppress the rebellion. He waits for the outcome of the Battle at Onved where the other generals fight for the throne.
1503 Goblins spread further south, the main forces move towards Weyring, Nyermersys is able to stop any further invasions in this area, also the Goblins are repelled at Acht and Holm.
After reaching Weyring the press on further southwest, splitting at the axis of the Thaelon, one force trying to reach Jernais by crossing the Thaelon, another force moves towards Voldar.
In the Thaelon a good deal of goblins is lost (elven attackers? or light elves? who knows). Some get through and start causing mayhem in the Heath of Jernais. Looting, pillaging and burning takes place. Before the Goblins forces can reach Voldar the Nermeran King sees no other way out than to have an agreement with the Helcrani, giving away Cemphiria an the Heath of Jernais region. A temporary ceasefire is agreed on, giving the Nermerans time to take care of the orcish attacks.
1504 During the battles in Santharian south near Onved both generals die on the battlefield. General 3 sees the opportunity and moves south, taking the throne with ease, cheered by the other armies, because he's obviously securing the northern border, managed to crush the rebellion.
1504-1507 Fights of the Nermerans against the invaders, some successes here and there, but more Goblins keep coming. In the last year also Losh-Ocs join the campaign.
1507 Grothunc's father returns to Ximax with his family
1508 Major battle at Weyring between the invaders and the Nermerans. King is surrounded by the orcish forces, commits suicide, seeing no way out anymore. King kills himself with his sword. The populace has to ask help fom the Helcrani, maybe already noblemen ask the Helcrani for immediate help before the death of the King.
1509-1514 Helcrani come to answer the real threat, the orcs from the north. Most of northern Nermeran is covered with orcs. Nyermersys and Ishmarin are holding out, but are seperated. In the whole region fighting takes place, where the Helcrani try to reconquer Nermeran lands bit by bit.
1509 Grothunc starts magic studies in Ximax.
1514 The pressure gets too big for Holm and Acht, who don't get any further reinforcements, the cities eventually fall. They try to get help from the south, but it arrives to late. The orcs threaten to move further southeast, getting more and more reinforcements.
1515 The Santharian Kingdom is sees the necessity to act and takes the region east of the Ancythrian Sea, being welcomed actually by the people there, who are happy to see their saviour arrive.
1515-1523 The Santharian forces and the Nermeran ones push the orcs back together.
1522-1527 Grothunc becomes 4th level mage and starts travelling around in Santharia. During his travels a good nobleman recognizes the birthmark. Sees it as sign of the Gods.
1523 Retaking of Astran through the combined Santharian and Helcranian troops, the alliance.
1524 Treaty of Astran
Betweeen the Santharian king and the Helcrani king, defining territory divisions: Santharia keeps the territories east of the Ancythrian Sea, including the region of Ancyros. The Helcrani have to acknowledge the kingdom pof North-Vardýnn (see current provinces border). The Helcrani also get the regions around Voldar and the Heath of Jernais.
1525 Santharian king returns and rebuilds his kingdom.
1527 King dies, murdered by the hands of his own mad son. Nobles just keep their mouth shut, as they are allowed to get more money, the populace is taxed more.
1529 Honest nobleman approaches Grunthoc, suggesting to help him overthrow. Corny story... Revolution supported by the nobleman against Grunthoc. [Still in discussion.]

Gean Firefeet, innocently using the big webmaster account. Since Arti went off to bed after using his whips on us the whole day, here follow some voluntary comments on the above notes. Bare with me, as I'm going to try to make two days of discussion clear to you in one forum post around midnight
So...
What we first did is to divide the time after Santhros into separate periods. These are
YELLOW
captions you see above. The captions are merely placeholders at the moment, see
Things to consider
below. They were rough guidelines, which we tried to give anchor points afterwards. We first tried to mark the key events that start and end each age. For example, the
Age of Change
starts around the birthdate of Santhros, and ends when a kinsman of Santhros defeating the Moch'ronn during his reign, eliminating the last thread existing on the continent, bringing peace for now to the realm.
The Golden Age of Kings
follows. Some ideas were added in as well, but we could use ideas from outside as well. What would make an age golden? What major feats are achieved in these days, why does the kingdom thrive... and why will it go on under?
In 547 a.S. we have the next key date. Incorporating a myth written by Wren some years ago, a Moh'hai destroys the capital of the Santharian Kingdom. This leaves the kingdom relatively helpless for some time, as the major nobles, the royal family and various governmental instutions are whiped from the face of Caelereth within [add short time period].
Interregnum
it is now. No principle noble takes the crown, everybody fights everybody, we have civil war between cities, tribes, new kingdoms are formed, stuff happens. One of the few things that still unites the people is their religion, their faith in the Twelve. In these times of turmoil, the population turns to the clergy naturally and in the end they decide to take matters in their hands. Through careful diplomatic pressure the four leaders of the church (representing the four elements by which the gods are identified) a kingdom is established in the central part of the old Santharia. Exact borders haven't been defined yet, but it will contain roughly todays Sanguia, Manthria and the south of Xaramon and Enthronia. A king rules this country Z, a sort of puppet to the clergy. This situation, with constant quarrelling will last for some time, the king remaining a puppet in the hands of the four archbishops, while the conflicts lasts, barbarian tribes strike from the north, adn Shan'Thai sees the opportunity for expansion. We're heading for the next age...
When we came to the age of the Southern wars, we started to try and get more precise key dates. In the timeline sketched above and the Manthrian and Santharian Kingdom map combined, you should be able to make out the general flow of the war. War's upon us: an enemy in the form of the city states of Shan'Thai makes a treaty with the Stratanians and builds up and army that attacks in 825 a.S. We're in the
era of the Southern wars
. Basically the conflict is the invaders vs. the central larger kingdom, but there's also trouble from the north, the stormcloaks are involved and the Isles of Ram as well. The scheming goes something like this:
- Isles of Ram annoy the ships of the Stormcloaks
- Stormcloaks, main trade partner of Central Kingdom Z, ventures further south and interferes with Stratanian trade with Shan'Thai
- Stratanians dislike the whole thing and are manipulated by clever Shan'Thai diplomates to allow them to gather forces in the south of the Sarvonian continent.
- Shan'Thai wages war on Kingdom Z via sea, taking Ciosa, while an army marches up north from the narfost plain. See timeline above for the further events.
Well, after a long period of various successes, glorious victories, scandalous plots, bloody sieges and not to forget strategical mistakes, we have the Shan'Thai thrown off the continent again. This is pretty much how we got with the general timeline.
Afterwards we turned to the beginning and refueled the debate of the life of Santhros. We dug through the old thread, leaving out the details on his looks and character, but merely concentrating on historical facts. The result is the first part of the table.
Well, I think that sums up most of it. I've surely forgot a lot, but when things are not clear, just ask and we're ready to answer or comment on all your suggestions. So please, be so kind as to read through and comments. We're having a break tomorrow and going to a lake with a castle, Koldar's coming as well and we get back to dev-ing on wednesday, we can hopefully integrate your interesting ideas and comments
Goodnight to you all
Yours humble secretary,
Gean Firefeet
Things to consider:
- Good names for the several ages between 50 b.S. and 1666 a.S.
- Naming Kings, Queens and other VIPs should be done with a system of tribal dialectical names in mind. For example, the Erpheronians would have their own 'style of names'
- Ideas for Golden Age
- Names for the title (different from archbishop or lama etc.) for the four religious leaders of the church of Southern Sarvonia

One question: What's with the war? It lasted for over 250 years, if I didn't count that wrongly. What might motivate Shan'Thai to keep attacking for that long? I'm not sure having just their trading interfered with will result in such a long campaign. Also, isn't Shan'Thai a city-state? I was unde the impression that city-states can't really form huge armies, or at least not maintain them for very long, due to not having particularly large populations.

Hi Mina, some response :bows: thank you!
Also, the war indeed last 250 years. You will now get the 'out of character' reasoning of developers: we want a war, we need a close enemy, we need a reason. This is basically why we have brought Shan'Thai in to do this for us. And true enough, Shan'Thai is a city state, but consists of several cities on this coast, giving it a larger support base, and not to forget, it was a metropolis based on slavery (I will hide here because I'm not sure we've ever agreed on this). I've compared it to Carthago fighting ancient Rome and though this comparison doesn't go completely, you at least see the general idea.
Don't forget that these are really very basic outlines, so please, if you ideas which would make it more logical, add them in and talk to us
We could use some response, you know

Mina you must also remember that thay have taken amny cities and other lands and would have a base for empressing soldiers. You must remember, there would be a lot of small villages dotted all throughout the regions they take control of. When put at the fore front of an army you learn to fight quickly or die. Some would join just to eat.
Also the trade disruption iis an excuse. They want the land and the control, just like say Rome, Persia or the Mongols did.

Just a note. A nation/kingdom can only keep a claim on conquering some foreign territory to justify to others and their own population by having some kind of support by the territory they intend to conquer. It otherwise makes no sense for them to be commited so long to an expensive enterprise.
They either must be supported by the Stratanians in that they don't want to be in Santharia or get some bonuses they currently don't enjoy or otherwise the war will be over in no time. Also a military based on slavery is very weak they'd something more substantial than that to maintain their fighting force.
It was a grave problem in the kingdoms of Jerusalem or Alexander that the rulers could only draw from a comparatively small trustworthy pool of recruits (Franks and Macedonians) compared to the whole population, similarily it would be if a large faction is slaves.

Hello Koldar! I see you'll arrive again soon, so until then for further discussions!
BTW: Post above was updated once more with new stuff (e.g. Curgan's Havoc timeline was somewhat reworked, Curgan should check it again), well, have a look!

Well, the war with Shan'Thai makes more sense now. However, Koldar does have a good point there. Slaves don't exactly make the most loyal or motivated soldiers.
Ximax stuff:
Quote
- First steps from a patronized system to a guild system, mainly to control magical power, first official dependencies of Ximax are instituted in other major towns, testing and teaching
Not sure what you mean by patronage, but it looks like the old idea of 'satellite schools' has been accepted. This should be interesting.
Quote
9 power centers exist in the north below the Tandala around the following towns:
- Nyermersys as citystate
- Astran
- Voldar
- Milkengrad
- Ximax
- Caelum
- Elsreth
- Carmalad
- Parda
- Kingdom X
- Kingdom of Stratania
Quote
After the Southern Wars 4 power centers in the north remain, plus Nyermersys as city state: Parda, Helcrah, Nermeran and Ximax.
Ximax should be considered a city-state too, I think.
While Ximax is certainly quite a powerful city, I think that the fact that it is known as a "mages' city" will limit is influence (since magi aren't trusted that much). Also, Ximax was originally conceived as a sanctuary for magi, so I don't think that they'd want to get involved in too many things unless their safety is concerned, meaning a mostly isolationist stance, I think, which should limit its influence as well.
Quote
AGE OF HAVOC (1440-1540)
Well, it looks like the province of Xaramon has been formed by this point. I'm thinking that there could be an opportunity somewhere here for Ximax and Xaramon to split. Perhaps the Thane of Xaramon supported the tyrant for some reason and Ximax went along with it to avoid trouble, but then when things start looking bad they go independent and declare neutrality (1441)?
I see an opportunity for Ximax to be attacked as well. Perhaps one side or the other wants Ximax to join them, or perhaps they want to capture Santhros' heir after he's been brought there for protection (1457). Could be a demonstration of why no one should ever attack Ximax without bringing along powerful magi of their own.
Quote
1480 Peace treaty between Helcrah & the Royalists.
Helcrah (South Vardynn) loses Naios and Caelum after losing the battles. Ximax is annexed by the Royalists. Grothunc's grandfather, loses his Ximaxian wife, and his eldest son and flees to Varcopas and hides in the desert.
This part (and the earlier few events) don't seem to follow very smoothly. What's with all the fighting, and how did Ximax (and the other territories) get annexed?
Quote
1523 Grothunc returns to Ximax, where he leads a revolution.
Um, revolution against what? I'm guessing it's the royalists, but if that's the case, why Ximax?
Quote
1531 Ximax conquers Caelum and the San'Thai reach Antiragon
This is pretty odd. Perhaps you meant Xaramon instead of Ximax? I don't really see Ximax having an army powerful to conquer other cities. Defending they could do quite well, wth all the fortifications they have and the relatively large numbers of magi, but I don't think they can spare enough people to attack another city and still adequetly defend themselves.
Well, here's some information about Ximax, which I suppose I should have posted earlier or something.
-Ximax (well, the Academy anyway, which started as a collection of wards, IIRC) was originally founded to keep the Orb of Ximax from falling into the wrong hands, as far as I know. That remains as one of their most important duties, even if most people aren't very aware of that.
-Shortly after, the founders decided to turn it into a safe haven for magi. They probably had the idea of setting up a school for magi around this time too. Presumably it is around this time that the building of the Academy and Inner City was started.
-The Inner City was designed to be very defensible, as is the Academy. They also happen to be located in the middle of a high plain surrounded by mountains on almost all sides, which makes them pretty hard to get to.
-For those of you who are not aware of this, Ximax does have non-magi. Quite a lot of the population are non-magi, in fact, though many of the most powerful people probably are magi.
-Considering the above points, I'd say that Ximax is probably rather isolationist. I don't see them intefering much with what goes on in the rest of the kingdom, as long as it's not going to affect them negatively. Once in the while, there could be exceptions though, such as wat happened at Horth.
-I intend for the Ximaxian army to be pretty small. Good enough to defend the city, but not large enough to attack others, as I mentioned above. Likewise, I intend for the population to be somewhat smaller than cities of similar stature, like Milkengrad or Voldar.
-While Ximax is part of Xaramon, it is not subordinate to the Thane. However, most of the time I see Ximax keeping to itself and letting the Thane run the province as he sees fit, as long as he doesn't give the city any problems.
Other stuff:
1. I was under the impression that the mohai and axhai were mythical beings. Doesn't having them play major roles in the destruction of Santhala kinda confirm their existence, since such an incident, I assume, will be quite well-documented?
2. Why did the clerics cause a new kingdom to be formed, instead of using their puppet king to rule all of Santharia? Also, what of the rest of Southern Sarvonia then? It seems most of the south is united under the rule of Strata. What about the north? Are there several small states or are they all united as well? "Power centres" are mentioned, but I'm not sure whether these are meant to represent influential places or countries.
3. I noticed at least one siege that took way too long. Most sieges are pretty short, as far as I know. Long sieges are really hard to sustain, and the defenders would probably be starved into surrendering or weakened enough to be defeated after some months. Mordor (the only instance of a really long siege I know of) was an exception (and fictional, for that matter...), since Sauron was enough of a threat to warrant something so drastic.
Edit: Okay, some research on Wikipedia revealed that there were a handful of sieges in history which lasted 3 years or more. However, my point is still more or less valid. Three Arcs Keep (probably the one I was referring to above) was sieged for 10 years, but you say that it was an unstrategic place, and in the end they bypassed it anyway. So, why go through all the trouble if trying to capture it if it wasn't really important anyway?
4. Overall, the Age of Havoc still seems a little confusing so far. Perhaps some commentary will help with that.

Mina, just a few quick answers to your post:
- we didn‘t say that slaves were actual Shan-Thai soldiers, maybe only some motivated ones (freedom..)
„Ximax should be considered a city-state too, I think. „
More or less yes, we always thought that the whole peninsula will be belonging to ximax, so not a citystate with some land around it.
Agree with what you say afterwards.
„Well, it looks like the province of Xaramon has been formed by this point. I'm thinking that there could be an opportunity somewhere here for Ximax and Xaramon to split. Perhaps the Thane of Xaramon supported the tyrant for some reason and Ximax went along with it to avoid trouble, but then when things start looking bad they go independent and declare neutrality (1441)
„
No, Xaramon and Ximax are still separated, or better, we didn‘t discuss exactly when what for part is called how etc..
Santhros heir is not revealed yet, only a few know about it and the identiy is lost again later.
Ximax will be annexed later, 1480
..needs some more thoughts of course..
the following is not updated yet, it looks now a bit different...

Well, we didn't include elves or dwarves yet, that still has to be done later somehow, we were glad to get around the human stuff.
Btw, thanks for going through the huge amount of mostly - boring - stuff. (It was not boring to invent it though!!)

The latest results of the Age of Havoc discussion (as far as we came) was also added in now in the thread above, slowly building towards the re-unification of the kingdom.

Argh, I keep having new questions. I think this thread might end up being split some time in the future.
Anyway, I just remembered all the talk about a heir of Santhros and such. Does this mean that the system of elected kings we came up with isn't going to be used anymore? If not, what is the significance of the heir?

Read on... This aspect changes in different directions during the course of the whole timeline.
For example here:
Quote
172 - Ascension of the Erpheronian King X to the Santharian Throne
Queen gives birth to a strong son. Queen is barren from now on. Son is switched by another powerful Erpheronian family shortly after birth by a midwife, after the son has died (father and mother of the dead are both involved). Queen never saw the kid. King dies, no heir.
Council of Linked Hands gets increased power because the Santhros line is apparently dead, so instead of purely counceling the Linked Hands now decide upon the succession directly. First chosen king is another Erpheronian, Y, the older son of the plotter.

Added to the history post in this tread were now 4 rough maps we've made during Santhmoot to give you a graphical idea on how the power constellation looks like at the various times during Santharian history.
