As you may know I spend most of my time reading the Compendium and various entries around the site. My recent interest besides the bats I’ve been working on (which I love!) are the Martial Arts in Santharia. Currently there are two types of orc fighting, and Doimo Brawling (sort of like wrestling, mostly submission holds and stuff like that).

I would like to know if there are types of martial arts that have simply not been intergrated yet. If anyone notices a reference to some form of Martial Art i would like to work on such a thing.

If not, I have some ideas of my own that I think would fit very well. For now i'll continue my CD and the Kanapan Terror entry. I don't want to start too many projects at once  grin.

I started "New Spring" (Krean/zhunite) a very long time ago, but have not been able to complete it yet. I want to re-arrange a lot of paragraphs and simplify the language before moving on to the history section

well my main idea is to pretty much mesh Aikido and fire magic. It's main concept is to disarm opponents and not kill them, while still packing a punch to defend your self agianst armed warriors.

...
If you know Fire magic, what are you doing engaging enemies in melee combat?  Just burninate them already!  Or maybe your magic isn't that strong yet, in which case you should be studying instead of getting into fights.  :P

A mage will not always be in a spot where he has advantage, not every battle takes place under favorable conditions. To only prepare for your enemies in one way is foolish, as melee combat will always be a big part of warfare and self-defense.

Aikido is the way of peace anyway, so it will mostly teach using force without killing and fire to frighten or scorch.

Well, dont forget how long it takes to learn anything in magic.  You don't really have much time to learn other stuff.  Sure, you could learn some martial arts in your free time, but probably only the most basic stuff.  Besides, sufficiently advanced Fire magic, say, level 6 or so, is really powerful in combat.  Even if the enemy managed to surprise you and force you into a fight in melee range, you should still have a pretty good chance of fighting them off.

true enough. I'm also an avatar fan and that probably influences my tastes. I may never get around to this, it was a pretty good idea though.

and besides this 'fire martial art', we need more any way. orc fighting is hardly common amoung humans.

You can use magic as a melee weapon as it is. It would be prefered to strike down before they have a chance to strike you. Spells would even be more accurate and more powerful. Magic is also a complicated thing, so to combine it with regular combat will be harder to do (so it would be easier and faster to just cast the spell without trying to fight while doing so). Aside from that, most fire mages are going to be orcs (Volkek-Oshra) so you'd have yet another way of orcish combat. Fire magic is also the most lethal and destructive one, so hardly the best option when trying to fend someone off without killing them. And Ximaxian mages are rather peaceful (they are scholars) and will most likely won't be very interested in learning combat. Then there's the problem that it takes time to learn both.

Perhaps a cool idea, but I think it would raise too many problems.

putting magic aside, would it not be a good ideas to develope new types of martial arts? Even if I can't do my original idea, we could still use some new types.

Sure. If you have some knowledge about that and can fit it in into a tribe/city/region/... I don't see why not.

*cough, cough* Fira magi are usually orcs? *cough, cough, ignites Marvin's hair, cough*

anyway, as Aang will show you Baromosa, Wind magic fends off enemies, water magic immobilises, earth magic crushes them, and fire magic destroys and frightens.. but thats just the physical aspects of each sphere. Spiritualaspects of especially water and air are a verry potent force, when it comes to meddling with someones mind. No single warrior in his right mind will ever openly confront a mage of any kind.

Well, nearly the entire population of Volkek-oshra are Fire magi.  I think that makes for a lot of orcish Fire magi.  :P

And I prefer to say that Wind helps you run away, Water incapitates, Earth immobilises, and Fire burninates.  :D  Of course, they are far more versatile than that.  ;)

Mina is right Mira.  I mean I have watched the show and each of the elements you described can be bent to preform the functions of any other.

of course.. i was opposing the elemental magics to physical combattants, trying to state that mages require little combat skills to be effective warriors, in their own, special way..

@ Mina: burninates... lol. is that a real word?   :)

I don't like the word immobilizes for water, doesn't capture the spiritual side of it. And orc fire mages? I have no doubt they exsist now from what I've read about them but before Santharia I've bearly even heard of them. The classical orc doesn't often dabble in magic if at all.

@Mira: Mostly not but thats another reason I was excited about a fighting style that implimented elemental attacks, a person who studies that as their specialty could effectively defend from mages and armed men.

instead of that i'm working on another surprise  evil  you'll like it

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.

I think they're under that big pile of unfinished Altario projects.  :)
