Like i've been saying, don't worry about it. I have alot of work to do before i start the entry, and even before i do this 'Fire martial art' i want to do just convientional forms without magic.

Marv, I think you mistook what I said.  What I was trying to say, is taht to prevent having to create a new magic system, it could simply be a spin off Ximax, and independent branch, if you will, that while it still follows thier principles and basic beliefs(therefore following their system) teaches it in a different way, or is exclusive to a certain group of people, narrowing down Ximax's broad focus.

I just thought of something.

Quote from: Volkek-oshra entry, occupations section
Elite Guard
The rare few who show proficiency with weapons but can also work rudimentary magic. They carry magically imbued swords and are the personal guard of the head of the Red Tower. Male only.
This sounds like a group that might mix physical combat skills with magic.  Of course, I think that this section, and the entry in general, is in need of a bit of revision, but the general idea of a group that has both physical combat skills and(relatively low-level) Fire magic seems like it could remain.

Now, that doesn't mean that you should rush off to make an entry about their fighting style though.  For one, we need to flesh out these Elite Guards first.  And I'm not sure there needs to be an entry about the fighting style anyway, since the magic they use is just plain old Ximaxian Fire magic.  A short desription of a few lines might well turn out to be enough.

As for reasons to combine both arts: you don't necessarily have to become a better warrior to combine the two.

As is common with some of the Terran forms of martial arts, people not only study physical combat, but also religion, intellectual books, philosophical stories, literature etc. There could be a culture that values both the physical act of combat as the concentration required to perform (small) magical feats (NB I know zilch about Santharian magic, but I can try common sense).

Something completely different: If you want to develop a 'conventional' martial system, you should especially think about the historical development. For example, Aikido developed from several forms of Ju Jitsu and other arts because the creator had a more peaceful and philosophical goal in mind.
Quote from: Morihei Ueshiba
True budo is to accept the spirit of the universe, keep the peace of the world, correctly produce, protect, and cultivate all things in nature.
Many forms of unarmed combat developed from repression with a rule not to wear any form of weaponry. That's why some weaponry in Asian martial arts also developed from farmer tools.

If you could come up with something new and truel Santharian here, we could actually get unique forms of Martial Arts, instead of combining magic and a Terran form like Aikido! Just my two sans.

I would like my form to have a strong connection with Santharia, but I think for the indepth of what I would want I would have to be a higher ranking member. It would involve creating people, buidings, history, and the current form of the martial art for the entry. This is a task that someday I would be more then enthusisastic about spending the time to do, but first theres alot more for me to do as a newbie. I will ofcourse keep writing and thinking but don't expect any work soon.  grin

Thanks for the help, I apprecicate it.

Who knows, it may become a joined effort at some point. From a RL pov I certainly would like to try it one day... but enough other things to do as well. Good luck with your other Santharian efforts!

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.

I think they're under that big pile of unfinished Altario projects.  :)
