NOTE: Dead

Description/Appearance:
Illeum is a dense black colour with a smooth surface, and very light.  The metal is adamant as well as being highly malleable and flexible.

Uses:
Illeum is a good metal for blacksmithing, it doesn't conduct heat well which makes it easy to use, and it has good traits.  It's mainly used for forging thief tools such as grappling hooks, and lock picks, due to the light weight and reliability.  Or standard metal tools, such as hammers, wheels, and horse shoes.  Smith's have not yet found a suitable flux to solder Illeum with, so they stick to welding, which is suffice.  Items made with Illeum are very light, but can be welded with other metals to add the weight required.

Availability:
Illeum is a common metal in Santharia, and can be found in most mountain ranges, or sometimes near large iron deposits.  Many smiths are used to working with Illeum due to it's characteristics, and it's high availability

PS if anyone happens to notice this, and they're a good artist, may I request a drawing of a set of armour or a weapon made of Illeum?  if you need more of a description mail me.

Pyrokar, I am sorry to say that this is not an auspicious beginning.

We already have mithril, mithrilan, AND aurium as 'supermetals' which enhance weaponry.    Iron itself is dwarven-forged in several processes to produce 'hues' which give the metal different qualities (from very hard but brittle, to softer and more resilient).   Also, herne, a metal unique to Caelereth, is used as an inlay or highly resilient veneer.  We simply do not need another supermetal which 'chops through most armour', thus upping the arms race yet again.

Also, the RPB does not dictate the designs of the Dev Board; rather, the reverse is generally true.  We design the world of Caelereth and have made it interesting and detailed enough that role-players have gravitated to it.  As a courtesy, the RP area was set up for them, and some very talented and responsible people took on moderator roles there.  However, the Dev Board is under no compunction to develop items which are clearly solely for the benefit of individual players or 'adventurers', such as rare magical artifacts, 'godmode' abilities, insanely powerful magical spells, and so on.

Nor do we look with favour on careless types who leave costly items forged by skilled smiths simply lying about the wastelands of our world so that wandering warriors can find them and live off the proceeds for the 'rest of their lives'.

While I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for now, had you done any research in the Compendium you would have found that we have at least four different metals which might serve the purpose of your proposed Illeum.

Finally, if you would like to commission an artwork from one of our talented artists, feel free to check their personal websites and drop them a line.  As Artimidor puts it in our list of FAQs onsite, "Please be aware that all Santharian artists contribute to the development of Santharia voluntarily, and that we are very thankful to have such fantastic artists, who help building a dream we share together. However, you shouldn't take it for granted, that artists will do character portraits for you for free. Such works are personal requests and not directly Santharia-related. Artists, who help on the development side of Santharia, can also chose themselves what they would like to contribute and are in no way obliged to do any member's biding. Drawing fantastic pictures sure is a lot of work, consuming time and resources, and if you want to have a special picture for your character and the money to pay for it, please consider commissioning such a work from a Santharian artist. Commissioned works will have top priority for the artist, you can choose format and techniques used to draw the image, and I'm sure your needs will be satisfied perfectly. By commissioning an artist's work you also show your appreciation to his/her work and support the artist as well as the Santharian cause, in which these artists play an essential role..."

If you have further proposals and would indeed like to contribute to the Development side of things, do post your initial ideas and concepts in the Proposals Forum so that they can be vetted by experienced members and contributors.  We'll gladly give you feedback and suggestions as to what you might want to concentrate on, or what (as in this case) has already been done and does not require further effort.  Thank you for your time so far!

I have briefly looked at other metals, on the compendium, but ok then sure there’s too many 'super metals' then I’ll make a metal of a different purpose, maybe horseshoes, and carriage wheels?  Maybe some variety is in order, which you seem to be hinting about.  Thanks to the point of asking artists personally, I will do that in the future.  I'm currently going out, so I'll edit the metal briefly now, and continue some more later.  Oh for the part about finding a weapon, have you ever though people died and the weapon was covered in say sand or dirt?  It's not impossible to die you surely know that, just because your weapon smoothly chops armour it doesn't mean that some ugly brute will come and eat you up and your sleep.  Plus it may have been a bad fighter, with some extra money, and bought the weapon for show.  Ok maybe it was a bit comic that you 'may' find something made of Illeum, but hey, people find meteorite pieces, and lumps of gold and that's in real life.  So sorry if you don't want clumsy people dieing in the wilderness and leaving there belongings there but I’m not a god so I can't do much about it.

As for being 'not an auspicious beginning' then oh well, it happens, and I’m hardly perfect.

PS.  Don't say you're sorry when you're not, life doesn’t work well like that

Pyrokar, we don't need a new metal, not for horseshoes nor carriage wheels, what we have already fits very well for that purpose. Maybe you could try to find another subject for developing - and maybe you ask then first if it is ok? That saves work!

I would dearly recommend to do more reading before you start though. This site is so huge, a few glimps  during a couple of days is surely not enough. Others read weeks and months before doing their first entry. That may be a bit long, but in any case, ask first if your idea fits. There may be older developers who are already working on the same idea as you, but haven't posted it yet or it is not on the site yet, but in the forum.

And please don't colour your first submission, write it in white (or similar) so that you can change your colours later on for the corrections.

Ok, I guess I will do that.  I'm just bored with iron, steel, aluminium, bronze and the such being used for everything.  It makes everything so... so realistic, and boring.  So ok i'll leave this here for people to read for a few hours or so, so all newcomers know that metals aren't needed then i'll delete it.

No need to delete it.

And no need to be petty, either: ("Don't say you're sorry when you're not"...)

My regrets were, I admit, selfish in nature, but quite sincere.

I regretted that you had spent time and effort on writing up something that was from a developer's standpoint unnecessary.  I regretted that someone who actually uses grammar correctly and took the time to check his spelling did not take the time to read the relevant sections of the Compendium.  And I do regret that you chose not to take the previous hint you were given about what you might begin developing, so that this discussion would have been rendered unnecessary.

We like to encourage newcomers, believe it or not.  I had hoped that someone who had already displayed some ability and creativity would also be able to accept direction and constructive critique - equally essential for new and old contributors alike.

So, in addition, I'm also personally sorry that we've started off on the wrong foot here.

I hope you will look around, come up with some ideas that arise from gaps in the world of the Dream and post them in the Proposals Forum for feedback, and from that find some outlet here for your creativity and expertise.  Although we are short on mentors, most members try to take the time to comment and offer feedback on new submissions, and if you integrate that feedback you will gain from their experience and familiarity with the site.  And finally - read, read, read!  There are masses of information already available,  and cross-referencing is one of the best ways to make your submissions stronger and ensure their eventual acceptance to the Compendium.

I was just having fun, I was tired yesterday, and my sense of humour slipped a bit, and yes i suppose I will look around the compendium a bit more.  So why no need in deleting?  That part is confusing me.  Off to go read the compendium now.

Deleting threads is something we seldom do.  I'm not sure why myself, but it probably has to do with how the replies to the thread might still contain useful information, even if the entry concept has been abandoned.

Um, I don't think aurium really qualifies.  It's really no better than steel, IIRC, except that it looks like gold (ie. is much prettier than plain old steel grin).
