THE GAME OF “SVAQ AND KUATU”
“Svaq and Kuatu” or much longer “Kuatu forcing the Soobrache” are the names of this gnomish card game which is not very hard to learn but maybe because of it’s need in equipment is slightly unloved by the people. Although, the innkeepers thought on how to rid this problem, they started selling decks in their inns.
HISTORY
Thought up by a Daran gnome in Manthria, this game has been played almost across all Santharia and there are even similar games on Nybelmar and Aeruillin. As people tell, a gnome who worked at Nolan’s Farm thought up the game.
They say that the gnome had to go home after a party and from unknown reason he peeked into the brewery for a moment. He said later that three Kuatu squirrels drank two flasks of Svaq and started to dance around him. He ran out of the brewery and told the story to the first gnome he encountered. Later on he got an inspiration to make a game about this funny story,
so that’s were the “Svaq and Kuatu” first began to exist. The people say the game was invented around 272. a.S.
Although this game can be played in most inns in Manthria it is quite expensive to buy a deck of cards from the innkeepers so people prefer to draw their own cards or to play with a deck from a friend.
The foxy innkeepers also make tournaments and they are played at their inns. This kind of game is also the funnest and innkeepers earn a lot of money selling beverages and decks.
The kissing and trading idea is probably just an add on made by veteran players to spice the game up.
EQUIPMENT
The equipment needed for the “Svaq and Kuatu” is listed below:
1) A deck of 50 cards with five cards of each of ten different card types. The types are:
The Sword
, which has a picture of a sword diagonally across the card, which is used to make another player discard a card. Discard this card.
Half-sip of Svaq
, which shows a smiling Kuatu sitting next to a half-empty flask of Svaq. This card counts toward the necessary number of Svaq sips.
Sip of Svaq
, with a picture of a Kuatu beside a tipped-over flask of Svaq. This card also counts toward the Svaq sips needed.
Happy Kuatu
, with a picture of two Kuatu. If there are at least two other Kuatu cards in play, you can play this card as a Kuatu card for yourself.
Warrior Kuatu
, showing three Kuatu holding miniature weapons. It lets the player look at the top three cards of the deck and take one of them. Discard this card.
Single Kuatu
, with an image of a contented Kuatu holding a carrot between its paws. It counts toward the mandatory number of Kuatu.
Pirate Kuatu
, which has a three-legged squirrel with an eyepatch. This card lets a player put any card in play into the discard pile. Discard this card.
The Table Cards
, 5 each of the Basiloc, Black Oak bark, and Redberries, which are the necessary ingredients for Svaq. If you have one of each card in your hand, you can play them as a Sip of Svaq.
2) Money and other things to trade
SETUP
The game is for two to six players. The player starts with five cards in his hand and after each turn he refills that number.
RULES
The goal of the game is to use the cards to acquire two whole sips of Svaq, and three Kuatu squirrels.
A player must play at least two cards per round. When the draw pile empties, the discard pile is reshuffled as a new deck, and play continues until a player gets two sips of Svaq and three Kuatu. Whenever a player gets a sip of Svaq, he must drink an actual sip of Svaq, and whenever he gets a Kuatu, he must announce that fact. If any person of the opposite sex asks within the next minute to kiss him, he cannot refuse, or else he has to discard the Kuatu. Play continues until someone gets the necessary combination of Svaq and Kuatu. Additionally, players are allowed to sell or trade their Svaq or Kuatu to each other, for whatever fee the player is willing to pay, including cards in the game. A player cannot have more than three Kuatu or two sips of Svaq at a time, and must discard extras, so sometimes it is beneficial to trade. Players can only offer to trade on their own turn.

Ok, why has no one else commented on this? This is HILARIOUS! You need a good editor (looks round innocently) to fix some sentence structures, grammar errors, and so on - but the concept is great and the game itself sounds marvelously creative. I like the little touches such as the redberry cards and the kissing!
And you KNOW one of our artists is just going to have to draw a card from this deck to illustrate the game entry. Who could resist sketching a tipsy rabbit? Or even better, a Pirate Rabbit! (falls about laughing)
If Faugar's amazing talent doesn't beat me to it, I'll have to dust off my Wacom and have a go at the "Half-Sip" card....

Indeed, this one sounds funny, though I always have difficulties with imagining how the game is played by reading a description only - one would need to see it in action...
But the concept is interesting and the ideas of pirate squirrels and innkeepers earning money with that kind of drinking game makes it a valuable addition to our games section
Again there are some things popping up in my mind of what could be added here and there.
For example at the History section you could write it a bit funnier as it is quite unlikely that squirrels drink Svaq, so it could have sprung from the imagination of our gnome, who forgot to drink his Svaq.
Innkeepers could also make whole tournaments, because it is a good way to earn money if people have to drink when they progress in the game - and I assume drinking Svaq makes much more sense if you have drunk something alcoholic first, so profit is guaranteed.
Maybe you can add a few such things.
But again a nice and inventive entry, Arceon - great to see you being creative and trying your hands on all kinds of different stuff - that's very much appreciated

This would be a fun game! Maybe we should try to get our various artists to draw the cards so we can put it together for the next Santhmoot!
Can't provide Svaq, but it could just be the drink of one's choice.
Now THAT would be interesting...

Ok, I've prepared the entry, expanding the history part even more, based on what you already had - hope you like this version as well
"As people tell, a gnome who worked at Nolan’s Farm thought up the game. They say that the gnome had to go home after some sort of celebration (probably a colleague's birthday) and for an unknown reason he peeked into the brewery for a moment. Well, people are pretty firm on that reason however, claiming he just wanted to get a clear head by sipping a bit of soobrish. Our "hero" said later that when he had looked into the brewery he had seen three kuatu squirrels drinking two flasks of svaq and that they had started to dance around him! The gnome of course hadn't stayed in this bizarre place for long and had run out of the brewery, telling the story shakingly to the first one he had encountered. Later on someone else got an inspiration to make a game about this weird story, perhaps to make fun of the obviously drunken gnome, who feared drinking kuatus. He called the game “Svaq and Kuatu” and introduced it at Nolan’s Farm, which proved to be exceptionally entertaining. The people say the game was invented around 272. a.S."
