Artimidor, I don't think that "property" in a demanding area has a pasttime. A Roman slave had probably more than these women. There is always something to do, working with leather, sewing , preparing food etc. But it could be the pasttime of the men only, with the Remusians it is of course different.

Don't slaves have pastimes as well to a degree? Official or not? And one of the few things to do when being so oppressed would be to at least get a tiny little bit of self-conciousness back by inventing a game like this?

For sure there need to be adjustments according to that point given the fact that the role of women was so extreme. Well, if this is considered a serious problem, then just let the men do the main leather stuff, and they created that game then.

That was my thought as well, Artimidor.  Unless there was a male standing over them everytime they worked on the leather products, property or not, they would find something to break up the monotony.  Gossip, games like this, etc.  I've had jobs where i felt like little more than a slave, but people always find a away to slack off.  Perhaps when the men discovered the game, a few women might have gotten "slapped around" or worse, but people have a natural desire to have recreation, to enjoy themselves, even to a small degree.

I know my artwork is not very good.  Hylphán has very generously offered to give a try at doing a better picture. thumbup  I'm not sure if he has started however.  I'm a dreamer who more often than not reaches beyond my attainable limits. shocked  So, I may be able to think up things, but drawing them or wording them properly can be a challenge.  Luckilly, I've got all of you who just LOVE to show me where I go wrong.  :P

And I did change the names in my description for the rivers, etc.

What I meant was that Roman slaves had a past time, but that the icetribes cannot afford that their women spend their time - and the available light - with playing around. They might well have  games or a distraction while working, they might have a play they enjoy which doesn't need any light , but a tribe on the edge of survival will not have much time to play. I doubt that any of us can envision what it means to struggle for survival every day (even if you thought you worked like a slave - there were slaves which led a quite comfortable live) , and the icetribes are in such a position. Of course people do need a break, but that is what festivities, special days are for. I doubt as well, that the icetribe women are daring to play behind the backs of their men. Hits hurt a lot.

But keep it if you like, the Icetribes are not my babies, apart from the Himiko.
I  think I give up commenting again, it seems it is no use for me, my arguments are all wiped away anyway.

You have a very good point here, Takor, but if this is something they are doing WHILE they are working--other women sewing while one takes her turn moving her awl--I can't see the males' reaction being quite that violent or negative.  I'd think the guys would think something like, "well, if it keeps them happy and the work gets done, why not?"  if they even thought about it at all.  Even in seriously repressed cultures, unless the oppressor hated the oppressed, they would hardly object to something that helped keep their victims content and quiet.  And I doubt the men of the Ice Tribes hate their women.  They probably feel towards them as we would towards a family pet--not equals, but loved and cared for anyway.

So would they really care all that much?  I think they'd just dismiss it as "a woman-thing" and think no more of it.  If the women were doing it INSTEAD of working, that would be another matter altogether.  But hey, we women are famous for being able to multi-task anyway, right?  :D

Just my two sans worth,

Alysse

P.S.  Takor, my dear friend, how can you not comment?!  You're one of our best!  Your comments/suggestions may not always be used, but they certainly make us think.  Your common sense is particularly useful for pie-in-the-sky types like me who tend to miss important practical things.   I for one value your ability to cut through to the essence of things.  Even if I don't always agree, it helps  me realize where a  description or explanation is unclear or incomplete, and so then I can improve the entry.

Commenting can seem like a thankless task sometimes, especially when things are misunderstood or misinterpreted, but it's crucial.  Your input is valuable and important; please don't feel that it isn't.

We love you, Takor ! hug

Takor, PLEASE, don't stop commenting.  I appreciate the time you take in reading my entries and the effort you put into critiquing them.  In fact, without your comments, I would not need to think so much when it comes to creating.  It is because of your comments that I have to have GOOD and PLAUSIBLE explanations for what I propose, rather than arbitrarily putting things in here.  As long as your comments force me to think, then they are invaluable to me.  If everyone just said "good job, Altario", trust me, I'd get lazy REALLY fast, lol.

So, please, do not get discouraged at me. cry  You make me a better writer.  And if I can help make the North as rich as you have the desert, then I will consider that a grand acheivement.

Hmmm... I was sure it had been...even said so in one of the posts, but it was not...it is now, though.  The exception to this is my diagram, which was hinted that it might be put to parchment etc.  I'm not an artist, so I leave this in anothers hands.  Unless you need me to update it, in that case, I can get it done today.

Well, the entry surely needs still an Overview part, summarizing the game briefly. And maybe a few sentences elaborating here and there, nothing major.

The parchment I will try to realize myself, hopefully this weekend, then we should be ready here I think. :)

I've written the Overview, and tweaked some of the history.  Unless there are some major objections, I think this might be done.

Then I say we lock the Unfinished Projects room.  If Arti ever gets in there.... big trouble. rolleyes

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.

I think they're under that big pile of unfinished Altario projects.  :)
