I was researching Ancient Chinese weapons the other day, and saw a weapon that looked somewhat like my picture here, and thought it would make a nice ceremonial weapon.  The Sun-blade, or something like that.  It might be too impractical for a fighting weapon, though in the hands of a master, it can be dangerous.

Any ideas, comments before I start with this??  BTW, my pics always end up lacking, so anyone with ability who wants to improve this...hint hint

How big is this weapon, Altario?  Is it used like a blade (i.e. swept back and forth in front of one) or is it like a throwing star?

Perhaps it could be a Nybelmarian specialty, since it is rather exotic looking?

As a ceremonial weapon, perhaps it is used in a sun (Injera) and/or moon ceremonial rite of some sort, as you imply.  Did you think of it as being a religious rite, thus restricting the use (possibly) to priests and acolytes?  That would keep it from inexperienced hands except under strictly supervised and regulated conditions set by the priest-masters during training.

Just my two sans worth,

In the picture, you can see the grip in red, so I woiuld estimate 2-3 fores in width.  It is one handed, and the user would employ 2 of them.

Two to three fores?!  That's as much as a meter across, Altario!  I think it would be   impossible to effectively wield two large metal circular weapons of that size.  I was thinking they were maybe about a fore and a half, around 5 palmspans or so.  Wouldn't that be more manageable?

Reminds me distantly of the Klingon Bat'leth ("Sword of Honour") from Star Trek:

These are pretty huge at times and can be used two-handed as well.

When I saw them, I thought so too, but there are other chinese weapons that look even more like klingon bat'leths.  These are (were) real weapons from ancient times.

Yes, they were real.  I don't think I've ever heard of them being used for anything but martial arts though, and even then they're fairly rare.  They're one of those odd weapons you don't often see.

My reason for incorporating them here.  I think they ARE odd enough to make them Santharian.  They are a bit too exotic to be a main weapon, so that is my reason to go ceremonial, though in the hands of a master....

Where would be the best place for them, though.  I was thinking somewhere that the sun was revered, as they look like a sun.  I looked up Injerin, but I think they are too peaceful.  Is this so?  Any place else?

Korweyn perhaps?  I don't know much about it, but apparently it's called the 'Empire of the Sun'.  Maybe you could talk to Rakshiri about it.  Another possibility would be the priests of Foiros, but I think it is preferable to avoid adding things of non-European origin to Santharia.  Santharian is supposed to have a mostly European flavour, I think.

By the way, judging from photos found online, it looks like the weapon is only about 30cm (a foot) across.

there called fire rings and are a pretty unavertized chinese weapon often used like scthes to cut grain fire rings i think with a few adjustments could be a great hand to hand concealed weapon like a dagger

Actually it seems they're called 'wind and fire wheels'.  And don't you think they're a little too large to be easily concealed?

Wind and fire wheels is right. They're somewhat related to this weapon: The Chakram, which is a metal disk designed to be thrown. (though it it indian in nature)
Wikipedia knows:

Wind and fire wheels (Feng Huo Lun) are mêlée weapons, wielded as a pair, associated with Chinese martial arts such as Baguazhang and Tai Chi Chuan.

Each wheel is a flat metal ring approximately 15 inches in diameter. One quarter-arc has a padded grip with a cross-guard; Opposite and adjacent arcs have protruding flame-styled blades. With one wheel in each hand, the practitioner can slash, stab, parry or disarm an opponent.

Thank you for the comments, everyone.  Still just a proposal though.  Have quite a few brands in the fire right now.  If I can get some of them finished officially, then I will get back to this.  Details are flying around in my head.  (yes, I know there is lots of room for them to move :P)

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.
