lol Well, at any rate this is a pretty unique post-7999 beast, this Sys‘Jaytareprietaherin (the beast with the most Santharian beasts in one name)... This seems to be an actual Bavarian mythical beast, though I'm not sure which story lies behind it. Obviously it's a Santharian story, though, cause the Bavarians must be somehow related to Baveras, thus the name!

The entry seems to be littered with lots of references and funny/interesting/weird stuff, but I still have to get to most of it. But it seems somewhat fascinating for a change.

The picture is also quite neat :) I'd like to recommend two things, though: A shadow is absolutely necessary, as at the moment the beast doesn't connect to the background. And on the other hand the background doesn't seem to represent the beasts environment and also looks pretty flat, as it's just a texture put behind it at the moment. But the picture has great potential, and the entry seems quite unique and funny (hope I can find the time to read it through with all those matches these days...)

Thanks for reading :)

Don't tell me you don't know the ".*..." , Art ??  *Easteregg

I constructed the name as it should be

Wood+Mithrals+thing  (like Ding - Dinger)
Forest+Thing

Sysdunekuatarepricshirnean= Sys'nean+dunemouse+kuatu+tarep+riccio+shir+Sys'nean

But I have some other ideas how to name them, a more "scientific"  one.

Well, I thought I had to add the last paragraph, because the hunting methods are not my ideas, more traditional bavarian.

To the picture: I planned a background, but then I run short of time and I wanted it do do with my new software (Painter!), but it refused to do what  I wanted. This one is done with the old photoshop equivalent I used, photoline32.

But then I thought I could use a parchment, for this picture is not representing an actual beast, but drawn after the description of a farmer on   - linnen, parchment, canvas? I found nothing better. I can add some shadow though. (And do a proper background later)

@ Art:

I thought about doing a picture like this one from Albrecht Dürer, for now. I will add some shadow though.

You could have some real fun with this creature, Talia. Maybe we should have a competition to see who can come up with the wierdest combination of animals?

I found the easter egg! The Bavarian mythical creature is a Wolpertinger, a rabbit with antlers and wings (see the picture Talia posted ;))

Well.. yes. Was that the egg? :P i was looking for something more hidden ;)

Then again, i have an unhealthy fascination for mythical creatures of any kind, so it might not be as common knowledge as i thought it was..

Seems I made it too easy, Irid? ;)

I had as name first Wolp and thought it is too obvious, should I switch it back?

Mira, I made it too obvious , didn't I? I did not think of an easteregg at all until art didn't mention the Wolpertinger..

It went; "Ooooh! Jackalope.. no, wait, Talia is german... *searcher for local name of jackalope cryptoid* Wolpertinger/Wolperdinger/Woiperdinger/Poontinger!"

And for those wondering, additonal names are (thank you WikiPedia!) Crisensus bavaricus, Rasselbock, Skvader, and Elwedritsche!

Actually, Talia, I just looked for 'Bavaria' and 'mythical creature' on google. I wouldn't have known it by myself, but then I just didn't know the creature lol

Amazing!

This is a creature with the true 'fantasy' touch, and an authentic 'bestiarium' feel as well.  Many of us - myself included - sometimes strive so hard for authenticity and detail that we lose the semi-mythical lightness that our entries should have.

I recommend reading some Umberto Eco ("Baudelino', for example) to get a refreshing sense of how medieval scholars wrote and viewed their world and the beasts in it.

Light, playful, and delightfully executed!  Once this is checked, smoothed out and put up on the site, it will be an entry to which we could direct newcomers as an example of 'high fantasy-styling'.

Thank you Judy ! :)

I tried to add some shadow - not too much though (more looked terrible)  - to the picture, trying to imitate Dürer ;), I hope it is ok now.

Here

Now I would need somebody who tells me how to "smooth out"  ...

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.
