There are some entries that make me feel as though Santharia exists somewhere other than in our imagination, and that it might be possible to go there. I think the crucial ingredient for such an entry is the feeling that I am hearing an actual Santharian's voice. And this letter is the perfect example. Bravo!

So many syntactic, semantic and rhetorical gems! But my favourite quotation has to be:
Quote
When that he hath an ague, or some small illness, he would fain seem dying.  Be not overly concerned, but minister unto him without laughter or mocking words, and he will heal the faster.   Accept that if thou doth in turn fall ill, scant help will be thy portion, for neither mate nor child will take thy daily duties from thee.
I rather suspect that this particular experience has been bemoaned by women far beyond Santharia or indeed the terran middle ages ...
(I think it should be "Accept that if thou dost in turn fall ill ...", though.)

Anyway, this is a delightful and flavoursome entry, and it would be a crime to let it languish outside of the compendium for much longer. Of course you are very welcome to use the quotation from Hildula Hauntwell, if you like. Maybe it fits better here than in the Witchcraft entry, anyway.

By the way, I wonder whether the Mother's Letter does not belong in the Library, rather than under 'Miscellaneous'? Maybe the category 'Essays' might be appropriate?

The greatest danger in life is that you may take too many precautions.
Ding-dong!

Are Shabby and Dek the same person in my mind.  Strange.

Ah yes, forgot to point out to Shabakuk that Chapter 5 is ready for testing - will do so now!

*Valan filches some parchments from around the corners of the pile before sauntering off attempting to look casual and tripping over the hem of his robes.*

Waiiiiiit!   (Bard staggers back with a pile of Unfinished Projects so high her arms are trembling)  Let me stuff mine in there before you lock the room!  *looks guiltily around and snatches the Quenyss parchment off the top of the stack*

Then I say we lock the Unfinished Projects room.  If Arti ever gets in there.... big trouble. rolleyes

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.
