This one's for Nsiki!

The quarry (in the foreground) is having a slow day, with only a couple of convicts shown breaking rock desultorily, but the main focus is on the view which they are ignoring.  We see the distinctive shapes of a few of the Rimmerins ranges, with the Rangwer peak on the left side, itself dwarfed by the Snowtop peak, highest in the range, in the distance behind it.  The 'Old Forge' cavern entrance is visible to the right, and the old mine road.

The shapes and orientation of the mountains were taken from Artimidor's Manthrian map and are as accurate as I could get them in Terragen (then, of course, completely redrawn in PS).  Comments and critique, as always, welcome!  (Note: This is the full-size version, not intended to be viewed only a foot away from your monitor, so shove back your chair before you complain about the focus, pretty please!)

It's beautiful!  I love the landscape.  My only critique would be that the mountain seems to be awfully small in comparison to the foreground figures.  I'm not sure if it was intended to look as if it's further away, but it looks to me like it's just right across the road.

But it's a lovely background---possibly usable for Santhworld somewhere?  There are mountains around Nepris, I think.

Another cool idea, Judy, and mostly well realized as well :D Nsiki will be happy to have an illustration for his masterwork!  grin

What doesn't quite fit yet are two things in my point of view:

- Perspective. If you look at the two figures in the foreground and then at the ladders, you'll see that the ladders appear pretty close to them, yet they are much smaller, so that they guys don't fit in size to them. So maybe make the guys a bit smaller?

- Drawn figures vs. rougher landscape. The two guys look much more drawn compared to the background and if you zoom in you see that they aren't that elaborate. So there could be some more details stressed, shadows added etc. Or they might be made a bit darker to blend better into the background.

@Alysse: Parts of the picture could surely be used for Santhworld as well - I see a path here and rocks in the background, which could be changed in size. And below the path some grass could be added from other pictures, and we'd have the path up to Norgerinth's tomb. :D

All right bringing this back up-
My main concern, echoing Mrs. Likely, is the scale- indeed, the mountain looks tiny, as do he ladders in comparison to the people. the third ladder on the left, ecspecially, looks humongous in comparison to the path it intersects, though tiny when viewed with the people.
I do, however, love the people- and ecspecially the halbard-type tool the greyish one is using. I'm sure that'll inspire an entry for me sometime down the road :)

Reworked - hopefully the human figures are more in proportion to the landscape now.  See what you think....

Oooh! And there's more now!
Any chance of throwing in a Warden overseer or two, maybe off in the distance, just making sure things run smoothly?

Oh, that's better.  I like the racial diversity of the convicts as well (snickers while trying not to look at the green-skinned guy in the center)  I find it really helpful to have some subject(s) in the center of a landscape picture to get an idea of the scale.  And something about this landscape really appeals to me.  Probably that Northern blood of mine, resonating with the ruggedness of the jagged rocks against the sky...

Hello all! It's been a minute since I poked my nose in here. Can't remember if I ever did anything useful.

Ah, too bad that internet is so restricted in China, Ferra. Can't be much fun surfing the web that way if Big Brother's watching you... Hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless!

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers

Short note: We had a bit of downtime Friday/Saturday night due to a server change. Site went online first, message boards took a while longer - now everything should be back to normal.
