Yes, Bard Judith has reams of variations of finger counting rhymes under her "Bodily Digits" entry, so that would fit in nicely there.

Oooh... Shabby, I think you could be Remusian!   buck  I love the knuckle bit.  It would be a great way for mother's to teach their children the gods and counting in one sitting,.

If only we knew someone with the fanciful know-how to come up with a great children's rhyme.... (hint hint)

The Remusians are too primitive to have taken the zero and expounded on it.  Or, maybe pragmatic is a better word.  They do not have the time, or the inclination to take the concept of zero and create abstrct mathamatical equations with it.  It is a placeholder, and a reference to none/nothing/etc.

Though, perhaps a more advanced tribe could have taken the concept from the Remusians and developed it further.

"A more advanced tribe"? That would be just about everyone, then?

One serpent for Ertemmir, who bears the fresh snow;
Two wisons for Zundefor, who roams high and low.
Three whales are for Aleshnir, who hunts in the waves;
Four night-owls for Nechya dark, who hides heroes’ graves.
Five corbies for Weabor, patrolling the sky;
Six dragons for Necteref, who looks on when you die.
Seven ...

Something like that? It's just a quick sketch - I'd need a while to get into the Remusian soul and into the animals of the Icelands. (Do serpents exist in the Santharian cold? Dragons?) Also, eventually I'd like the rhyme scheme to go AAA-BBB-CCC-DDD-EEE, so that each finger gets its own triplet of lines for its triplet of knuckles.  :)

I take it there is currently no conclusive summary of the 15 gods, beyond the Ice Tribes Entry and the New Take On Old Gods discussion, which ends inconclusively, as far as I can see?

Finally, a possibly impertinent question to Altario: is the order of the gods, as represented in your number system, set in stone (yet)? It would make it easier to create a rhyme if I could shuffle the gods around a bit. I don't know whether you had a reason to arrange them in this order. In short, would it matter if, say, Phob became 12 and Het became 4, Wea became 13 and Zunde became 1?  shocked If it would, I would of course accommodate.

Inquiringly, Shabakuk

Looking good so far.  :D

As far as everything set in stone?  Well, of course I spent hours figuring just what order they should be placed in.  I looked up the gods on site, researched how the numeral system developed here in Terra, cross referenced it all..... then I assigned each god a card from my playing card deck, shuffled, then drew them in order.

So, until this gets integrated, I see no harm in changing the order if it helps you come up with a nice rhyme scheme.   I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Thanks, Altario!  :) I'll need a week or three, if that's okay. Feel free to PM if coordination is required.

Hi Altario,

Just in case you wanted to write this up, in the interest of increasing the blarrow count, here's a possible regrouping of the numbers. My pseudo-poetic dabblings have advanced a bit, and with your kind permission, I would suggest the order to be as follows:

0   Afra
1   Ert
2   Phob
3   Nech
4   Bren
5   Aster
6   Rea
7   Chel
8   Parg
9   Wea
10  Peiero
11  Het
12  Asend
13  Alesh
14  Zund
15  Nect

This suggestion was partly determined by what my imagination could come up with for the poem, but also tries to group the gods into somewhat coherent triplets (earth, day, night -- thunder, lightning, rain -- and so forth). What do you think?

Hey, Altario!

Have a look in the library - the poem is there. I didn't go for end rhymes in the end, and the result is not as lovely as Bard Judith's collection of counting rhymes - but I hope the poem doesn't stray too far from your Remusian vision.

Bringing up as per Valan's nudging.  What do I need to make this an entry?  It was originally only intended as a Dev thingy.

Overview, I guess, and maybe a history?  Anything else?  No template for anything like this is there?

I would suggest taking a look over at the languages, or possibly in the "Standards and Measurements" category.

But yes, an overview wouldn't hurt and some sort of basic explanation as to its origin would be in order.

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.
