I realize I am not yet done with Gouran, but I just couldn't help myself.  The Forsaken Blade was calling me.

Please, comments welcome.  Here is the description of the blade.

"Description. The whole sword is jet black with the exception of a small red rune on the pommel. On the crosspiece there is a picture of a large figure fighting several human warriors. This is most likely a representation of the Dark Chosen Alteth, who is said to once have forged this sword. If this part was added by Alteth himself or someone else is unknown. The blade is long, thin and back curving like a scimitar and it always seems to emit a faint black light around itself."

Ooh, very nice!

The snow and background looks a bit flat atm, but I'm assuming you're planning on touching that up?

The sword itself is very cool :)

Wow...I am amazed at the skill of your work and the speed with which you prodeuce it, Seeker. Great job!

My only comment would be to add to what Fox said. The background is a little drab looking. I'm not an artist, but it seems to need to be a little more adding to the what the sword looks like. Right now the background is flat, and it seems to detract attention away from the sword. The snow looks good, but the clay part just doesn't seem to fit with the sword.

That said, the sword is fantastic. I love it. A lot. The detail is very cool, with the rune on the pommel and the picture on the crosspiece. The design is very accurate to the description, and its just looks so cool. Seeker, if you ever feel any other descriptions calling to you for a pic, don't hesitate. I'm thoroughly impressed. thumbup

Background change will be easy enough.  Maybe i'll make the sword laying on ice or something. More suggestions welcome.

Hi Seeker,

I like the sword as well, though it is not perfect. The curvature is very nice and the feeling for its "blackness" comes over well.

But after so much praise, some hard critique ;)

*critique mode on*

Your background though is boring. When you redo it, please don't use just such a preset , regular pattern, but paint at least over it, to give it an unique touch. This way every GIMP user knows, which one you took.

The sword is quite nice, as I said. I think though, that the lighter parts are not well defined enough, a bit clumsy, they are too blurry and the "shine" on one edge doesn't look like a reflection, more like you did not work carefully enough.

*critique mode out*

Will be cool, that sword, once it is finished! :)

Here is the sword with an ice background (all original, no preset regular pattern).  While there is not much going on in the background I am purposely trying not to draw attention away from the sword.  I am using an ice background because this sword resides with the Northmen (Remusian Men).

I also tried to address Talia's comment about the sword reflection.

Hopefully this gets us closer.  Please comment.

Much better now, Seeker! The background is very nice, though a bit too perfect maybe.

I  don't know, if Art suits the format. Have you tried to put it diagonal in a more square format? Well, perhaps he is happy with this one.

It would be perfect, if you could try to get the little irregularity out of the sword where it is the broadest. Your hand trembled slightly, the light stretch is not even, the edge of the sword neither. (Use your rubber in a quiet moment ;) ) It is only a little effect though.

You have a great feeling for pictures, Seeker, with more practise you will be a great artist :)

No problems from here with this one :) The background fits much better, there's not much more required than this, it looks really nice that way.  thumbup Maybe something uneven here and there, but basically it's all cool!

I made the last subtle changes.  I believe it is ready to go.  I provided the background as well in case it is useful.

Miss a little, miss a lot  :(

Sorry I was gone for a week.  I moved, and they cut my internet a few days earlier than they were supposed to.  But I am back.

I love the pic, Seeker.  :D It has a perfect design, exactly how I had envisioned it.  Looks balanced, like a killing weapon should.  I do have one critique though.  The handle, to me, looks a bit "plastic".  A weapon like this would have a leather wrapped handle, as steel alone would be too slick and slippery in the north, when it got cold.  I'm not sure if the handle you have on here is supposed to be leather, but it looks like either the same material as the blade, or like I said, like plastic.  Can we add a bit of a grainy texture to it?  Maybe make it look like a leather wrap?  I've included a couple links to pics that can show you what I mean by this.

Handle 1
Handle 2
Handle 3

I hope this helps.  Just my opinion, as this has already been integrated.  But very nice job.  I hope the north beckons to you again sometime. :D

Edit:  BTW, Handle 2 is my personal fave, but they all are good examples of how I think the handle should look.

I agree with Altario, the handle looks a bit odd. The wrappings would be layered if I'm not greatly mistaken, kind of like the bandages on a mummy (not that deep) but they'd sort of wrap until the handle (which at the base is really just a length of metal to wrap wire or leather around) was covered and well wound to avoid slipping off of it. After all, it would look somewhat... silly if your hand slipped in the middle of the fight and you went and cut yourself, or got stabbed. The pictures should provide a good idea of what you want to do with the wrapping (they really are very neat). Wikipedia has a page explaining what they used to wrap the hilt, apparently a sort of unfinished leather. Here's the link if it might help: Wikied!

Awesome picture though. If I could draw half as good I might actually be able to draw. I hope you continue with your excellent work.

Hey Alt I was wondering when you were going to get a chance to comment.  You were the one I was most concerned about liking the sword, since it effects the Remusians so much. I will update sometime in the next few weeks.  I am currently out of town and do not have access to my my art program.

Oh, and I've now also spotted the piece - among so many other great one's you've gathered there!

Bonus suggestion: Never knew that Phylicia Rashad from the Cosby Show is such a great gospel singer - see here, start at ca. 4:30 - really great voice!
