The rewrite of the War of the Chosen requires a lot of research and demands precision on lots of issues at hand. It also means to separate fact from fiction as far as possible and to eventually define clearly what is considered myth and thus doesn't need to be the same in the belief of different races. The main issue in this context deals with straightening the elven mythology out, which is taken for granted in various entries (human entries included). The questions arise: Who are the Gods, the Axhái, the Four, the Titans, the Avatars, what are their relations to each other, what happenened in Fá'áv'calár etc.

We need to collection information on all this first, develop a proper timeline and clarifiy some things that might end up in new entries or changes entries. Then the beliefs of the races need to be elaborated better, in order to have clear differences.

This timeline thread collects lots of mythical stuff and tries to bring it better in context. I just put in fragments in it which I extract from entries as I go along, so it's likely that what you read here isn't consistent right now and has a lot of unanswered questions and gaps. But we need to start with it, so here goes. More to be added in the course of time.

CREATION OF THE WORLD

ca. 15000 - The Dream of Dreams
The elven High Goddess Avá dreams the Dream of the world, a Beginning which is Origin and End all in one. Avá perceives that in her Dream She indeed became Another. Her Dream has split into Thoughts (Aoelía).

Added/change another small, yet important part:

ca. 15000 - The Creation of the Elements (Aér'ai'chanía)
Out of the Thoughts (Aeolía) of Avá the four Elements (Aér'ai'chanía) arose: Wind (closest to the Aeolía) and Earth, and the Elements that stoodin between them, Fire (Earth trying to become Wind) and Water (Wind trying to become Earth).

ca. 15000 - The Auratic Winds and the Darkwinds
The elements formed connections among each other, the Xeuá (the "In-Between", the Spirit, the Aura) and the Aeolía that connected the elements were called the Auratic Winds and their movement was Ahm (speaking, active). But there were forces already within the Aeolía, which countered the Auratic Winds, the Darkwinds, and their movement was called Soór (passive, responding). While the Auratic Winds sought harmony and linked the elements together, the Darkwinds slowed them down and made their work cease.

ca. 15000 - The Creation of the Gods (Aviaría)
The Elements differed from the Thoughts (Aeolía) of the One, developing as something of their own that was other and alien to the Aeolía. Yet the Aeoliá worked against the chaos that spread, in order to reflect the picture of Avá from which they had sprung themselves. Out of the Auratic Winds three Aviaria arose for each element, each one representing a high spirit that stood as a link between the element and the other elements. Thus the Twelve Aeolía were created, which the humans would later on refer to as "Gods".

ca. 15000 - The Shaping of the World
As the Gods became aware of themselves, they rejoiced and played, and while doing so shaped the world as we know it. The land was formed by the Earth Gods, the sea by the Water Gods, the wind by the Wind Gods and the sun by the Fire Gods. The Auratic Winds stayed close to the elements and lived inside them, while the Darkwinds gathered around Caelereth and obstructed it from the Void, wherein Avá was dreaming.

ca. 15000 - The Creation of the Children
As the Gods came to life and joined together a storm formed and the Rain of Life fell fell down on Aér'ai'chán. It fell on the Elements and from the Elements there emerged plants and creatures inspired by the spirit contained in the divine rain. There was a race born emerging from the Wind which would lateron be called the elves, the race of the Earth would be called the dwarves, the race of Water would be the humans and finally the race of the Fire would be called the orcs.

The races described in the "Cárpa'dosía" are just the initial four main races in the world of Aér'ai'chán. Of course these were not the only races emerging from the blessing spirit of Avá, but all those other races can all be derived from mixed elements, which gained Spirit from the Thought of Avá (e.g. goblins, trolls, halflings are still in question etc.). Note that the described elves are those, who lateron would be called the "light-elves" and that races developed and mingled with other races, so that elves became beings very humanlike, consisting of real flesh and blood. Of course light-elves still exist in Aér'ai'chán and Santharia, but of course they are rather rare. There are still stories to be written and reasons to find how the "dark-elves" can be derived or how certain dwarven or human tribes developped and how the orcs got organized.

ca. 15000 - The Creation of the Tree of Life
Every single life of the inspired beings is represented as a leaf by the Tree of Life, which grew in the center of Aér'ai'chán after the Rain of Life had ceased and it was called Eu'reoll ("She [who is] giving [life]"). He was huge as he reached deep into the sky and the leaves were golden, silver, adamant and many other colors and all the races - elves, dwarves, humans and orcs alike - gathered before the tree and worshipped it.

ca. 15000 - Creation of the High Ava'ránn, the Guardian of Eu'reóll (Tree of Life)
When the first drop of the Rain of Life touched and mingled with the first breath of Wind, both were breathing in the the other's essence and found each other pleasing, there emerged from this joyous union, the first elf and the most beautiful of all the races to come - she who is the High Avá'ránn. Like many of the elder elves of the Astyrhim Tribe, the High Avá'ránn's true spiritual form is that of pure light but she retains the ability to manifest a corporeal shape if needed (light elf). The High Avá'ránn is the first of the Styreians and immortal Elven Queen. She will have to stay within the boundaries of Thaelon until the Dream of Avá ends.

ca. 15000 - Creation of Melór, the Shadow of the High Avá'ránn, and the First of the Axhái
It was written that as the High Avá'ránn took her first step upon the newly wakened world, the Injèrá acknowleged the birth of its elven sister. For Foiros created the Injèrá in the image and of praise to Avá and to see the High Avá'ránn is to know the shard-thin reflection of the glory of Avá, by blazing brighter and brighter until the brilliant rays hurt the elf's eyes and she took shelter beneath the life-giving shade of Eu'reoll, the Tree of Life. As she did, the first shadow was cast upon the world and in that moment, within the High Avá'ránn's shadow, the Rain of Life joined with the Element Wind for a second time, and thus was born the second of the elven race and his name was Melór. He was the first of the Axhái, the elder elves, and only the High Avá'ránn is more ancient than he.

As Melór opened his eyes, the first thing which filled his senses was the presence of the High Avá'ránn and he knew then he would forever be a shadow-self of a shadow, a mirror within a mirror, and that he was bound to her eternally until the end of existence. Though not lovers, the two elves shared the same soul and breath and their bond is as deep and unbreakable as Avá's love for all her Children.

ca. 15000 - Creation of the twelve Axhái (the Elder Elves)
After the creation of the High Avá'ránn and Melór, from the last drops of rain to fall through the sky came the creation of the last of the Axhái (the Elder Elves), who were wise and close in thought to Avá.

ca. 15000 - The Four Axhái Guardians
The Four were Daltelár, Saol'lian, Ioawlen and Vai'linai. - Their lives were simple and carefree, and their only task was to attend the High Avá'ránn in defending the Tree of Life.

But the High Avá'ránn had greater plans for the four last Axhai, for their grace set them apart from the other eight. She sent them out into the physical world below, granting them all physical form more beautiful than most of the mortal race had ever seen and sent them far from the Thaelon to teach the races of corporeal form the nature of their being. Of the four the eldest and the youngest Daltelár and Vai'linai were the fairest.

Very scared were the Four, but their love for Avá and her creation drove them out into the world. They agreed to meet back at the Thaelon every fifty leaf falls, and later brought with them the Wood Elves. So they created the High Elven Council.

Daltelár traveled to the North and the East, where she witnessed the very dawnings of mankind. She heard much of the great oceans and longed always to be close to the waves. Saol'lian went West. Vai'linai travelled South with Ioawlen for strong was their bond. They were the first to meet the elves of the woods and much did they teach them, training bards to continue the traditions they had taught.

When their task was done and the knowledge of the elder days ensured, the Four were given the choice to return home or to remain in the mortal world forsaking their true natures. Saol'lian returned immediately to her home for great was her homesickness. Daltelár chose to stay, for she was facinated by what the world could teach and could not bear to leave the coast. She made her home with the Wood Elves of the Bolder Forest and long did she live there.

Ioawlen was torn in half, for her desire to return to her home was consuming. But she could not bring herself to abandon Vai'linai. Vai'linai had given her heart and soul to a leader of the Wood Elves in the great forests of the South, and would not listen to her adoring sisters pleading to return home. Vai'linai returned to the Zeiphyrian Forests and to the elf she loved so, her sister went with her giving up her right to return. In time Vai'linai was Lady of the Wood Elves, happy and settled, but Ioawlen was not. Ioawlen desired not the company of the hot southern forests and became isolated and unhappy.

When news reached Daltelár of Ioawlen's great unhappiness, she rode to the High Avá'ránn and pleaded Ioawlen's case. Thus the High Avá'ránn returned Ioawlen to pure light and brought her home. Vai'linai and Daltelár lived long, but they had chosen a mortal path, and at the end of their days left Aér'aí'chán for what lies beyond this world. Ioawlen greatly mourned their passing and it is said that the Thaelon still echos with Ioawlen's lament for the brightest lights of the elder days.

Daltelár was the confirmed mother of Aiá'merán.

ca. 150000 - The Seven Teaching Axhái and Melór, the Messenger
Melór, the Shadow of the High Avá'ránn, is the High Avá'ránn's eyes for the elven Queen and is unable to leave the Thaelon for she is the chosen Guardian of Eu'reoll. Melór brings back news and information gathered in his travels back to her and because of this, there is nothing which happens in Aér'ai'chán that escapes the High Avá'ránn's attention.

The other seven Axhái's task was to create and translate the Cárpa'dosía to the various tongues spoken on earth.

Among them was also most likely Avásh'aelía, the later Bone Queen. Interestingly, it is said that Avásh'aelía was not a true Móh'rhím as she does not possess the ability to morph into a shadow form or have the mind power the Móh'rhím do.

ca. 15000 - The Night of Cárpi'coór - The Creation of Esh-Avá (Coór)
Life in Aér'ai'chán was peaceful for a very long time and the gathering of the races under the wonderous Tree of Life became an important rite, which was practised every tenth year. Thousands of tribes, which were spread accross the vast lands of Aér'ai'chán came back together and accumulated under the Tree, worshipping the wonder of life and the Avá, who had created it. But one night, when the races sat together under the Tree and were singing beautiful songs everything changed suddenly. This night would be called "Cárpi'coór" lateron, "the beginning (of) night". And indeed, this night should become the beginning of the Great Night, the Dawning of All.

Out of nowhere a sudden thunderstorm arose in the skies and a dark shadow came out of the night as if the shadow was the imbodied night itself. The seas flooded the lands and fires emerged from the earth, a terrible wind destroyed many things already established by the hard labour of the races. Lightnings shot out of the dark clouds and inflammed Eu'reoll, the Tree of Life. Thousands of leaves representing precious lives burned or were torn from their branches, fell to the ground, and as they sailed downwards the lives contained within tried to escape their fate, tried to fly away, far, far away. And indeed, many of the burning leaves shaped wings, but the souls of these creatures were lost. They were not bound to the cylce of the Tree of Life anymore and therefore these creatures became immortal, lateron they would be called the "adamant dragons". There evolved other kinds of dragons too, as many leaves dropped into the seas or at the earth, others were just torn away from their branches but the fire hadn't caught them.

The races fled the burning Tree of Life in all directions, even leaving the land and sailing out to the seas to find peaceful isles. Earthquakes shattered the land and finally the four continents and many additional isles were shaped.

Indeed the Tree of Life was not destroyed, but it was burned to half as the upheaval ceased. Terrified from the view of the burned Tree the Gods hide the Tree of Life from the eyes of the races (although the Tree still remains on the same place it will only be visible for the light-elves in the future). The Gods were taken aback by the happenings as was Avá herself. Puzzled Avá looks out into the universe, sensing the unspeakable answer, but still not willing to accept it. Finally she ask the ultimate question to the world that has sprung from her: "Is it all me?" All she hears is her echo, but in her echo she feels a deep, terrific voice, the voice of Evil. And as she looks at the world again she recognizes in an apocalyptic vision that the face of the world is the face of a gigantic demon. Perceiving that the world she's dreaming of indeed is the contrary picture of herself and not herself she realizes that her goodness can only be perceived through the evil and her beauty only through the ugly. Her only comfort lies in her Thoughts of freedom that the races were born with - to decide between the main principles, good and evil.

Proud of her creations but nevertheless disappointed with the outcome of her Dream she thinks about waking up from the Dream, destroying everything she had accomplished. But she cannot. For there is one Thought in her heart she cannot cope with: The Thought that she cannot awake, because she's just the Dream of another. There's only one very vague hint indicated by Avá's last expressed Thought that this other might be her supposed creation itself...

ca. 15000 Avá leaves the World
As the Dreamer of the world, Avá the Mother of All, turned away from the world, Coór (or Esh-Avá, meaning the "False Avá") began the eternal  battle with the creation that was Aér'ai'chán. Coór was there from the beginning of time, as he was the All the Mother of All had created, but his manifestion happened the first time at the "Cárpi'coór", when the worshipping of life and beauty had reached its summit. Coór gathered the lost high spirits, the Darkwinds or "Coór'enín" (meaning "the Many" or "those who are being dark"), around Himself to support his intention of destroying the world. Coór did not dominate the world instantly once Avá left, but his dark seed was planted. Many wars followed on all continents and the fight between and good and evil shall last till the end of time, when the Dream of Avá begins and ends.

ca. 15000 - Coór forms Melór'aí'chán (the Netherworlds)
Coór is said to have manifested in the Netherworlds (Melór'aí'chán), which the humans claim to be on the other side of the known world, from where he influences existence as we know it. Some stories even claim that for each child being born in our world, a shadow comes to life in the depths below us and that the destinies of these two existences is tied together forever. Others say that when someone dies in our world his or her soul may fall back into the Netherworld and be reborn there (and the other way round). Others say that the demons of Coór are only in our minds, which is the true place of Melór'aí'chán.

ca. 15000-14900 - The Ancient Elven Empire of Fá'áv'cál'âr
A huge realm developed that was ruled by the elves: Fá'áv'cál'âr, devoted to the worship of the High Goddess Avá and all of Her creations. Its capital was Fá'áv'dárím ("City of  Avá"). The other races - orcs, humans, and dwarves - lived as subservient races to the elves, but in this early age they were living together happily.

ca. 14900 - The Empress Kásh'áv'taylá, the "Daughter of Avá"
Eventually, an Empress known as Kásh'áv'taylá in the books of history came to power. She was quite righteous in her belief that  Avá was the only true god deserving of worship. Kásh'áv'taylá slowly steered the  elves away from the other gods, who had created the world in Ava's name became irritated as they saw themselves as the representatives of the Dreameress.

ca. 14900 - The Descent of the Gods
Left alone with the creation Avá had left, the Spirits of the Gods came down on the Disk and walked it like the Children they had created themselves to see why the Children turned away from them. Yet they didn't reign on the Disk like kings did, but they were Children among Children, in form of elves, the first children - and they were hoping that the Children would worship them and find Avá through them in their hearts and become as she was. Instead, the Gods became more and more forgotten.

ca. 14900 - The Godly Rage
The elves more and more shunned the other gods. Soon the gods grew furious about Her Children and Coór's seed grew in them. Finally, Armeros, mighty God of War. The first to rebel were the orcs, who assaulted and destroyed one of the units of the Empress' elite Royal Elven Rangers. The elves were hard pressed to keep control of their empire, but in the end they beat back the masses with little room for mercy of any sort.

But Armeros' action only had the opposite effect on the elves. The attacks against them made them feel all the more justified in their lone worship of Avá. Their hubris reached a point such that they decided that the other gods must be both evil and heretics for rebelling against the sons and daughters of The One. The elves also began to discriminate against the other, so-called "lesser races", thinking of them as inferiors.

However, one faction remained firm in its worship of all things created by the Dream of Avá, and worshipped the spirit of the High Goddess  in everything existing instead of focusing on the Goddess herself. These  elves who never succumbed to corruption would later become the Light Elves. The pureness of their faith eventually caused them to evolve into a higher form of being.

14900 - The First Orcish Attacks on Fá'áv'cál'âr
Finally, Armeros, mighty God of War, incited the other races against the elves. The first to rebel were the orcs, who assaulted and destroyed one of the units of the Empress' elite Royal Elven Rangers. 14900 - A Dark Elven Belief arises
Once more, however, a faction of elves began to separate themselves from the mainstream. Elves started praying to Coór in order to beg him for a sign to open the eyes for those elves who seemed to shut their eyes from the reality of the Dream. They knew that the other gods had been forsaken. They knew that they must appease them. But through this, they came to the conclusion that alone, Avá is weak. It is only through her better half, Coór, that She truly became The One whom they worshipped. Eventually, this belief - implying that Coór was the better half of the Goddess - developed further, becoming a cult of sorts.

14900 - The Rage of the Gods and the Destruction of Fá'áv'cál'âr
Queprur, the Goddess of Death, who was still wandering the lands in elven form like all the other Gods, intervened. She appeared on the steps of Fá'áv'cál'âr’s capitol, Fá'áv'dárím ("City of Avá"). Singlehandedly, She walked through the city, setting fire to homes and smiting many elves with Her scythe. Finally She reached the palace of Kásh'áv'taylá.

With one swift stroke, Queprur decapitated the elven Empress. She impaled the head upon a spike and set it high upon the palace of Fá'áv'dárím. This horrible action divided the elven nation. But the revenge of the Gods for the freedom of Avá's Children had only begun. In the days that followed, Foiros rained down fire upon Fá'áv'cál'âr. Grothar, the God of Weather, and Baveras, the God of the Sea and Water, flooded the kingdom of Fá'áv'cál'âr. At this time the area of the once proud empire became an unbearable swampland, the whole city was scorched by fire and finally drowned in the sea.

14900 - The Alienation of the Races and the Tribes
With the death of their figurehead and the ruin of their land, they began to develop different beliefs about the Gods and their own role in creation. Millenia later, these ideas would help to develop the different tribes of elves, but for now the elves were only unified in their disorientation.

The humans and the other races that had served the elves in Fá'áv'cál'âr for so long at this time also turned away from the elves and split into various tribes that spread over the lands. Disillusioned

14900 - The Time of Purification: The Persecution of the Dark Elves
Those elves who had always disapproved the Cóor-believers, shunned the others of their kind for their dark ways, believing that they had brought the Gods to the dark side. The new Emperor, a militant elf by the name of Ur'á'gór, fa former follower of Kásh'áv'taylá, decided he wouldn't tolerate them any longer. A witch-hunting crusade began within Fá'áv'cál'âr for the rebel elves who recognized Cóor: Once discovered, the elves would become the center of a harmonious ritual. They would be bound to a tree while elves danced, sang, played music, and prayed around them. It was supposed as a "purification" ceremony where the elf would eventually be ceremoniously killed so that the victim would "return to Avá".

14900 - Saban's Revolution
One of the worshippers of Coór, a powerful elf named Saban began to rally his brethren together, not willing to be hunted down any more by the fanatics of the High Goddess. Saban, having seen that he was greatly outnumbered by the rest of the elven population, enlisted the aid of the various tribes of orcs, humans, and dwarves along with his wife, Kalara, a huntress and warrior herself. Many of the other races, still seething from their earlier defeat by the elves, agreed to help him.

A grand scheme was concocted, a war was started. The elves of Fá'áv'cál'âr were completely unprepared, so the revolution made fast progress against the Avarites, the remaining elves of the once proud empire, which was already weakened by the wrath of the Gods. Soon the entire empire fell under the united control of the revolutionaries.

Saban planned to take control over the empire, however, the orcs were notorious already for not adhering to deals. They convinced the humans and dwarves to ignore the weak elves and take their birthright. They sacked the elven cities, raped their women, took their riches, and burned their homes to the ground. Saban was furious.

-149000 - The Death of Saban and Rise of the Orcish Warlord Us’gar
Having occupied the remains of the palace of Fá'áv'dárím, Saban summoned the orcish leader of his campaign, Us’gar Loc’um’rak. Though the orcish leaders figured that they didn't need another elf to rule them. Frustrated and angry, Saban and Kalara unsheathed their magical weapons and attacked the orcish leader. Unfortunately, they failed to notice that the sentries posted at the palace had already changed to the other side. Kalara was shot several times in the back with arrows, and once through the heart. She was dead instantly.

Saban was also fired upon, taking wounds in his legs and shoulder, but still he lived. He fell to his knees unable to stand any longer. Tears ran down his face as he looked at his folly, the ruin of great Fá'áv'cál'âr. Holding the body of his dead wife in his hands, he cried: "If our longing for the uttermost beauty is the destruction of this land of splendour - will the beauty of the world then also destroy the world and thus beauty itself?" As he finished those last words, Us’gar Loc’um’rak, the orcish general, decapitated the elven leader.

-149000 - The Fall of Fá'áv'cál'âr
From that day forth, Us’gar and his race were cursed by Cóor. By killing Saban, he had destroyed the possibility of a mighty elven empire under his guidance. Ever since that day, the orcs have been the most violent and bloodthirsty race on Caelereth. And thus a ferocious war broke out among the remaining three races over the rulership of the remnants of Fá'áv'cál'âr. The land was ruined further and further, with none of the three emerging victorious. Eventually, the lands became uninhabitable and they were all forced to move on.

The elven race had been decimated. Almost all elves moved away from the doomed lands of Fá'áv'cál'âr and migrated elsewhere - to various forests and safe-havens where they wanted to live their lives in peace. The remaining orcs, humans, and dwarves left as well, seeing that an empire of rubble is no empire at all. Saban's followers remained, though they were lost without their leader. At this time, Saban and Kalara's son, Sohlim was only an infant.

-149000 - The Birth of the Dark Elves: Sohlim's Eophyrhim
The remaining followers of Saban became the dark elves. Later, when Sohlim grew older, he took on the name of his father, Saban, and journeyed forth in search of new lands. He eventually settled the Eophyrhim tribe in the Paelelon. Every firstborn male of Saban's line, from that day forth, would take on the name of Saban once his father died.

-149000 - The Shadow Elves
The other elves who chose to remain instead of accompanying Saban still live in the dark marshes of what once was Fá'áv'cál'âr and now bears the name Waters Marshes. Like the Wind Elves or Light Elves, they have evolved into something else. They have become creatures of shadow, thus earning the name Shadow Elves.

-14900 The Demise of Us'gar
The orcish warlord who was responsible for Saban's death didn't stay long in Fá'áv'cál'âr. Rumour has it that the Shadow Elves killed many of the orcs that remained in that region and that Us'gar finally left the cursed place, only to find his own death soon after. War broke out among the orcs themselves, and like the other races before they spread in various directions, never to return to Fá'áv'cál'âr ever again.

ca. 14000 - The Titans [HUMAN MYTH]

WAR OF THE CHOSEN

- Ma'asherom's sorceress Cyrella is killed in the attack of Eu'reoll
Ma'asherom was convinced that to gain control of Eu'reoll is to have total and complete dominion over the world. In his all-consuming arrogance and believing that the elven race, known for their peaceful nature, would submit voluntarily to his will, he sent ten of his most trusted followers under the command of the sorceress Cyrella to wrest possession of Eu'reoll.

After killing a stag, Cyrella was transformed into a tree by the High Avá'ránn: Cyrella opened her mouth to speak and shrieked instead. She howled as her skin hardened and turned brown and rough to the touch. She screamed as her hands were pulled up above her head and the fingers stretched and lengthened like long stiff ropes. She sobbed as her legs merged together and her toes sank beneath the soil to take root. Helpless, she begged the Elf-Queen for deliverance and none was given.

When the men returned to the archmage with their news, Ma'asherom rewarded their failure with a long, prolonged and painful death.

POST WAR OF THE CHOSEN

ca. 806 b.S. - Creation of the High Elven Circle by the Four, the last of the Axhái
The High Elven Circle is a meeting of the tribal leaders from each of the wood elven tribes, created, it is said, by the Four in the years immediately before SW I. Traditionally The Circle meets once every fifty years (a cycle) in the Thaelon to discuss matters of interest, but generally only meets to make decisions in times of great mutual need

The leader of the Circle is referred to as the Avá'ránn, representing the spirit of Avá and the High Avá'ránn in the reality of Caelereth. Any requests made by the Avá'ránn will therefore by elven nature be for the good of the race, generally.

It has been known for them to cast a powerful temporal shift spell to bring the Council environs to one of the higher planes within the Void. The place in which the meeting is being held is translocated temporarily to some of the higher levels of Avá's Dream, leaving a swirl of white mist in its place.

Art, it would be cool, if you set a few links inbetween to where all this stuff can be found, and if you just point to the history table. So many things can be found with the search machines, but a lot are somewhere hidden as well  - and it would be easier to get to know some old stories.

Again: If you want to specifically know where I found what, ask. Then I'll hunt it down specifically again. But I won't post details to every single piece with links and stuff, because everything is put together from multiple sources. Sorry, but the administrative effort is not feasible. The intention is to make progress, not to document everything, especially because I will have to close the gaps and bend things in the direction as it is necessary. As I said: with casualties that entries will have to change here and there.

But I can tell you at least the main entries from where I've taken this so far, this must suffice for now: Cárpa'dosía, The Four, High Ava'ránn and High Elven Circle.

Hello Art! Thanks for compiling all this info and weaving them into a single narrative! I really miss the bigger cosmological entries and mythology, the foundation and vision of the Dream in a way - so it's great to see you writing once again :)

I was just interested, especially as your cosm-mod I thought I should know where the stuff is to find. But if you feel .... unwell when I ask where you find the things I just stay away for now.

The four main sources are fine already, thank you, but quickly inserting a link  when you find a little piece cannot be too much of 'administrative' work, you need to copy that anyway out. Or collecting some links at the bottom of each post while you go along searching for stuff, if that post is not too long. Or a hint, that here and there are tiny pieces to find as well.

It's that you find a specification of something in another sub-entry and then I copy just that sentence into the whole thing, because it fits better and explains a minor detail. So I really can't post every entry where I find something. I don't feel "unwell" posting this, but it's not necessary in my point of view to document every tiny detail. But I've put my main sources there, so I hope that is helpful in general.

Further note: As I'm basically putting together stuff that's already on site in any form (unless I make something), finding the respective entries is simple. You can take a characteristic passage like "Very scared were the Four", put it in the Santharian search engine in brackets, et voilà, you're right there at the entry. If its a direct quote you'll find only one page usually, given the quote you chose is unique.

Now back to the topic itself: I made a few adjustments in the creation myth, with the intention to eliminate the direct interferences of Avá stated in an old page you can still find on the site (Introduction to Santharian Cosmology). This doesn't fit to the elven interpretation of Avá, Avá doesn't really "act". Therefore what was changed was that Avá doesn't "create the Gods", but that the Thoughts, still having Avá in them, try to put things back to harmony. So it is an indirect creation where Avá isn't involved anymore. She just started the whole thing:

The second change was that Avá didn't interfere by creating the Rain of Life, but that the Aviaría came together and resulted in a storm. Again, this is to remove Avá from all things "Caelerethian".

I've added now as well mainly details on Melór, the Shadow of the High Avá'ránn - and stuff that results directly or indirectly from that. This includes the fact that the world was shaped properly before the Tree of Life could grow on it and the High Avá'ránn could hide in its shadow (see The Shaping of the World). Melór is also clearly identified as the first of the Axhái (=the Elder Elves), and I've named him now the "Messenger" as he represents the connection of the High Avá'ránn to the outside world. Four Axhaí stayed with the High Avá'ránn as Guardians (they would eventually be known as "The Four"), thus 7 remain out of 12 who teach the Children.

A silly question but: If Ava did not cause the rain of life, so that the elves were in effect created by the Twelve, why do they worship Ava rather than the Gods? The one thing I liked about Ava dreaming the Rain of Life was that it tied in nicely to the idea of Ava as the source of everything, the fountain of the Dream - also to the fact that the elves, the first ones to arise from the Rain, reflect the High Goddess. I am not suggesting that you undo the changes - I'm just a bit confused, so looking for some clarification :)

To answer that question, Coren:

The elves do not personalize their Gods as the humans do. They look at the source of all things, which is that one Dreamer from whom everything else results pretty much naturally. The Gods are a by-product of her dreaming if you so want. In her they see the motherly principle from which everything emanates, and if they worship Avá they more look at the untouched harmony she stands for than her as a "person". The same way they are looking at Gods - Gods are representative aspects of the idea of Avá. If they worship a God they choose an aspect of her that they deem important in the circumstances they live in.

Another question: In many library texts, chief among them Dala's Katya the Dragonseeker, there are certain asides by the elven characers along the lines of "[We shall meet again etc] if Ava dreams it" - the Santharian version of "if God wills it", if you like. So with this more passive role for Ava, things like that are no longer accurate/need eventually be changed, or?

A related query: What exactly is the function of Ava? Does she have any residual role- according to human and/or elven belief? Also, do humans acknowledge the existence of Ava, even if they do not worship her directly?

Well, personally I don't see that much of a problem with "[We shall meet again etc] if Ava dreams it." It's not that Avá dreams of something based on something that happens in the Dream, say, as if the dices are re-rolled, meaning: if Avá wants it to happen. That would be an active decision by Avá. No, Avá is beginning and end, and therefore everything is pre-determined. So if Avá dreams it then it was always meant to be that way. I guess that saying fits rather well the deterministic point of view that the elves implicitly have.

Don't know exactly what you mean with "residual role", but she defines the principles of life for elves, counterpart to her Shadow. So she's omnipresent in an elf's life, just not as a divine person to pray to, but as a principle that is inherent in every being and object that exists. You could say that Avá is a pantheistic principle I'd say.

And Avá also is not recognized by humans at all.
