This was a variation of the Hobbithogs in Lane illustration which I reused and amplified the background for.  As you can see, there are some similarities (well, if we ever do a Santhworld expansion pack called 'Adventures in the Shires', I guess we can have some pictures that 'fit' together in a sequence.....) but lots of additions.

Bright and cheerful, with a certain hobbitish naivete...

Four great pictures, Judy! What's a poor gobbleswap to do, when his feeble powers allow him to confer but a single spot of aura?

I like all the pictures, but am posting collective praises in this thread, because the Hobbit smials are my personal favourite. I love the details such as the chair next to the entrance to sit down and smoke a pipe in, the label on the tub of pipeweed, the garden implements left carelessly behind (probably because it was supper time). It's all splendidly evocative of a hobbit restday! Praises! Praises! Praises!

Another winner this one, now further improved from a previous version :) And don't worry, the barrel and the shovel at the front can make it pretty easily into Santhworld - the more pics you post, the more likely you'll get the feeling once you play the next part that you've seen something already somewhere in your drawings... lol

A great picture, Judy, basically there are three things that I think could improve the picture further. I've just made a quicky edit on a crop to show you approximately what I mean, nothing more.

- The bridge could be coloured (e.g. so that it looks as if it is made out of wood) - adds some more colour to the whole thing.

- What bothered me already in the last version are the too crudly done cracks between the stones on the path and the outlines that separate the path too strongly from the environment, which looks unnatural. As the shadows also don't change as you move along the way, ithe path looks very much 2d-ish. In the attached picture I tried to apply a simple effect: I put a gradient transition between black and a lighter colour on an own layer (black in the North-East corner, grey in the SW), deleted the surrounding area and then made very transparent. This is just an idea how you could make a more dynamic light in rather simple way. More refined that could work nicely.

- The colours of the doors at the back could be a bit more subtle I guess, they are pretty bright.

- Oh, and Alysse pointed out last time that the doorknobs of hobbit homes are supposed to be at the center, eh?

Oh, and it seems Mannix has disappeared into oblivion, and with him the hogling pic and entry (wrote him a while ago, can't seem to reach him). Maybe that entry can make it on site as far as it got, as it is pretty large anyway, and if Mannix shows up again he can add stuff later? Would be a shame not to get these great contributions (entry and pic) up on site!

And of course: Aura +1 credit!

Oh a wonderful pic! We dearly need some more hobbit entries. I would do it...but I am busy with evil, furry, misty, dark things up North. I don't do cute.  grin

While thinking of places that Coren's Minuet for Woodwind Quartet might illustrate, I remembered this delightful picture. It's not on site yet, is it? I think that's a crime.

(Coren's music sounds more human than hobbity to me, though - so I'm still not sure about the right place to integrate the minuet.)

That's a lovely picture!
All these flower beds, which I like most. But I find the fence on the top of that hill also cute, the trees, the whole layout . Feels terribly hobbitish.

The only thing which I did not recognise at the first glance was the water, the little pond, thought it to be a meadow, until I looked which blooms you can find there.

Four pictures? Where? Shaba, are you speaking of the hidden ones? I can't wait, until they are released!

Talia, this thread was created in October 2009. At the time, Judith posted four pictures within a short space of time (I think even on the same day). One of the others was of the Goutonchic School for Ladies, I believe.

The other three made it on site, as far as I remember. But this Hobbit Homestead seems to have got forgotten about...

But not by me. Sometimes, when I should think about statistics, I dream about a story or Santhworld module set at the Helmondshire's All Year Pie Festival - and whenever I do, this picture looms large in my mind.

I see another one of Bard's 90% finished entries has been resurrected! I do love when her half-forgotten treasures get dusted off to see the light of day again.  grin
