A more detailed entry on the Mist Hunters, as referenced in the Mists of Osthemangar entry.  thumbup

Overview

The Mists of Osthemangar is a region in Northern Sarvonia infamous for its unpredictable atmosphere, vile spawns of darkness and innumerable secrets. Most adventurers that journey to such a place are never heard from again. There exists, however, a small group of hunters who thrive on the thrill and danger that the Mists provide in abundance. Known as the Mist Hunters, or the Grey Hunters, this group has braved the Mists region for generations for the chief purpose of the hunt alone. Composed of orcen and Kaaer'dar'shin members, the Mist Hunters are a closely knit group of men and women who know the region well. They can tell many harrowing tales of the dangers within the area. The Mist Hunters are revered by both tribes for their prowess and skill and only the most worthy apprentices are invited to join them.

Appearance

The Mist Hunters are a motley group with no real formal appearance. Each member has a given specialty along with various skills with weapons and medicines. The Mists region is typically cold year round with spells of warmth in the summer months. As such, each hunter dresses in typical leathers and furs covering their bodies. They are careful to wear loose fitting clothing and armor so as to keep there movements limber and precise.

All members of the group favor the tough, but flexible, hide of the Tsor-Shotak lizard. The lizard's hide is the traditional armor for the half-orcs and utilized by most all of their warriors. The orcen members, typically of the Osther-Oc variety, have taken to use the hide as well. Recent trade agreements between the two tribes has resulted in the Osther-Oc favoring much of the Kaaer'dar'shin aspects of war. The hide can also be made into softer and thinner clothing worn underneath the outer armor. Furs, usually the hide of the rough and thick hide of the Cartashian bear, are worn about the shoulders, upper arms and down the back. Footwear consists of the lizard hide soles wrapped with bear hide for warmth.

Each hunter is typically armed with numerous hunting and skinning blades that are sheathed about their bodies. The knives are within easy reach, usually along the waist, wrist or upper legs. Each hunter carries approximately five to seven blades upon themselves. Some hunters carry these knives alone and can fight with them using extraordinary speed and agility. Typically, the knife hunters specialize in killing small prey and skinning their kills quickly.

The second primary weapon is the bow and arrow. All hunters are equipped with a bow as many creatures of the Mists are far too dangerous to approach too closely. Each bow is made of tough and flexible wood from the Tulmine trees. It is said that the Kaaer'dar'shin use magic bows made from the pendrowe, but no outsider has been able to confirm this. In addition, each arrow is usually tipped with special poisons used to render prey immobile or for an immediate kill. The bows and the quiver of arrows are worn over the shoulder. It is said that each hunter can strike a target from a hundred peds away using their bows.

The spear is the third weapon of choice for the Mist Hunter. The spears are made from the Tulmine tree and have varying lengths. The short spear is perhaps one and half peds in length and is used for throwing. The longer spear, often with a long bladed tip, is for thrusting attacks. The tip is coated with the poison from the savage mushroom or slime from the black ooze pools. This ooze has been found to be effective against creatures with thick hides such as the spine wyrm.

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith. And that, I fear, for any reasoning, conscious being, would be the cruelest trick of all.
