Well then, here it is :)

Unfortunately I feel very very stupid :(  I accidentally saved the merged low res work over my layer file.  So I really hope this is to everyone's liking because I won't be able to edit things anymore. -_-  I'm so sorry. I had planned to so some different things because I didn't like the embroidery like this and my second attempt was no good either.  I guess I'll have to work extra hard on the Dior's embroidery then heh.   (Oh and if I come across other handy techniques for embroidery I'll let you know Judith ^_^)

*looks at it*  ....why didn't I make the chain gold! *facepalm*

It's great, Shayan! Don't worry! The leather 'chain' is fine also. After all this guy left his homeland to become an adventurer, he may have lost it on is way, and this leather thread he made out of /was given to him by... no problem :)

Ready for integration in the Drafas entry and Strata ! :D

Do you have a tutorial how to do this kind of embroidery or is it just painted stitch by stitch?

This really is a great picture.  I love the necklace.  You have a very nice style of painting.

Yep, I agree - great picture, Shayan, and it can be used the way it is methinks :D Cool embroidery, absolutely lovely necklace with very fitting phoenix, it's really very well executed! thumbup And of course that means another aura +1 for you! Should go up next update then!

Just remember next time to save your files properly! One never knows when one can use an older version... ;)

@all   Many thanks to everyone for help, praise, suggestions and aura :D I'm glad you guys like the pendant. It took me quite some time to design ^_^ but I am happy with it now ^^

I'm back at my old computer again. My new one tripped and choked and...oh I don't know. I'm just done with it right now.  I hope to get it running again soon but I can't tell. I hope I can finish the Dior painting before I leave. That's my aim at least.  I guess I'm just a complete jinx around all things computer-y :( It's so disheaertening.

@seeker  I'm afraid you won't see much more, more often of me, considering. But I'll try to do what I can heh.

@Talia the stitches are separately painted, and pretty coarse in this piece. You can break it up in smaller sections per shape to get more of a traditional embroidery feel.  Then I hit the 'preserve transparency' box in either Painter or Phshop (but I use painter 98% of the time for all my paintings) and you can add highlighting and shadows.  Try to make sure the folds and greases in the fabric itself are mimicked and play around a bit with the overlay layer settings :) they are very useful to create a shiny, intense look on many occasions.  Embroidery is also one of the three things I occasionally use the 'dodge' feature for (photoshop only. The one in Painter is terrible) The other being the supreme highlights of hair (but only rarely because it easily gets overdone and I tend to get carried away) and gemstones.

For this piece changed the layer opacity to blend it more into the fabric and I used a blending tool to soften the edges though that actually lessens the feeling of embroidery I thought it looked better here. If you have a very 'sharp' painting, the edges of the embroidery should also have highlights and shadows respectively  where they go through the fabric instead of just on top as I did now. That has the potential to make it very realistic looking, but only if it's a (sharp) close-up :)

If the embroidery needs only be suggested instead of clearly seen, don't bother to paint all the seperate threads.  Paint the silhouet shapes on a seperate layer. Mulitply that one to incorporate the shape of the garment (folds etc) it and create another copy you set to overlay, painting along with those folds again and adding shinies :)  This of course, goes especially well for gold foil/leaf.

(I'm sorry I'm not commenting much on other threads, but I hope to do that again when I get back and am less time/energy challenged)

Thanks Shayan for the explicit description how you do these things! I will safe that for later use!

I'm a beginner with Painter though and am more often frustrated than content, for it does not what I want it to do.  evil Or it does it one time and not a second .
Well, I don't have photoshop, but PL32, a similar software - with this one I'm by now much better, but it is not painter. Maybe I should use artrage , it looks easier ;)

Thanks again :)

You're very welcome :D

ArtRage is a lot simpler but has a very intuitive interface. Other programs you could consider are OpenCanvas and Paint Tool SAI.  It all comes down to personal preferences.

As for Painter...I admit the program is a bit of a tough cookie to learn and in the beginning especially it's challenging and sometimes overwhelming.  I recognize the feeling that it never seems to do the same thing twice in the beginning, but it's just a very, very nuanced program, which in the beginning may seem a little redundant, but will work in your favour later on.
Getting a grip on this beautiful program is (in my personal experience) very rewarding.  Once you get to understand its different behaviours and interactions and your personal work flow starts picking up by knowing and feeling as you develop a way that works for you, it goes from struggling to pure creation joy :) It is by far my favourite program to work in.

If you have any questions about painter at all, or a certain thing or look  you want to achieve or are struggling with, feel free to send me a note (or post it on the board) and I'll help you whenever I can ^_^ I'm no master at it, but I love learning and sharing new things :)

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.
