Perhaps develop this idea into a group project? It seems to have gathered some interest and I would like to be a part of it. A mythical floating island developed by a group of devvers! One big multi-entry with each of us taking a piece. I wonder if Alt could drive a project like Rayne so skillfully could...  rolleyes

Lest we forget to garner our Places moderator's opinion...someone tap Arti on the shoulder for his thoughts on this.  thumbup

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith. And that, I fear, for any reasoning, conscious being, would be the cruelest trick of all.

I have neither Rayne's sharp tongue nor her sharp wit. :P  Sadly, her knowldge far surpasses mine as well.  I do, however, have hairier legs than her, and that has to count for something.

But, if Arti okays this, I am willing to open this up as a team project.  Get the best of the best to add items.

Seeker walks up to Altario and without saying a word cast a little fire spell and walks away.

IO think Seeker created the first Santharian Parody in picture form.  Should get Art to add that somewhere. :P

Also, I think I'll Bellring the Sage, in case he hasn't had time to look this over.  The name is a bit ambiguous.

lol Cool illustration, Seeker! rolling

Concerning floating islands: Well, some sort of very special magical kingdom is already mentioned here and there throughout the site, and it goes by the name Quel'tra'loh. And there's even a musical theme for it, where you also find a short description:

Quote
Quel’tra’loh is an island realm founded upon magic, weste of the Sarvonian  mainland. The capital of Quel'tra'loh is called Corloth, and since this is its most famous city, the people are called Corlothans. Corlothans are a proud people, and one of the few for whom magic is an everyday thing and not mainly imagined as stories are told around warm fires. The leader of the city, the Skylord (or Skylady) has always been one of the most powerful wizards of this small kingdom. All of the businesses use magic in one form or another. Blacksmiths make use of runes and potions to imbue their weapons with beneficial characteristics. Farmers use magic to create crops that will grow faster and have better results. Architects reinforce their buildings with small spells, and can protect them against weather. Merchants use gates formed by rock arches enchanted with extremely powerful spells to travel long distances in short amounts of time. The people of Quel'tra'loh are most famous for the legendary flying ships powerful mages of ancient times had used, however, this knowledge has been lost during the millenia.

And there definitely must exist a whole, pretty well done entry on it, which is pretty much finished, though methinks Stormcrow (?) for some reason disappeared without finishing it. Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but that's something to look into at any rate. But that's more a real civilization with magical stuff and what not, not so much a mythical island. Though the magic might be gone now, so a mythical island would remain.

Concerning a mythical/real island and it's not so clear what it actually is: What you describe pretty much smells like the LOST island (LOST = TV show)... And there are definitely great possibilities with such a concept, especially in a fantasy context. (*rant mode on* Though after having witnessed the mostly disastrous final season of LOST I cannot recommend to look there for inspiration anymore. They've messed things up completely and insulted the viewer's intelligence. My personal opinion, of course. *rant mode off*)

That said, that opens up doors to do such a concept better. Such an island could be e.g. ripped out of the space/time continuum by a wizard, intentionally or not. Could be an island from the Ethereal Void drifting through space/time. Finding the island could be difficult therefore, so it could be real, could be mythical, could be accessed through visions or dreams, as whenever you're out of the space/time continuum possibilities get pretty endless on how to handle things. Getting to the island might result in the fact that you cannot get back to your time as you float away through the ages etc. The island could need protection because its secret needs to be kept etc.

Lots of possibilities there, that's for sure. Would surely be an interesting topic, though there's of course also the danger to get too close to what is supposedly LOST mythology. You might also think of maybe going more in the direction of a flying fortress or something to keep things unique. But basically definitely an interesting direction that's worth persuing.

Hi, dear Arti and other developers!

This year I am in China and cannot use any Google services including YouTube. For this reason I stopped uploading new Nepris videos. I can also not read any comments there.

It just crossed my mind that this information might be useful to you.

Cheers
