The Avennorian Fighting Knife
Overview
The precursor to the cutlass, the Avennorian Fighting Knife is longer than the standard knife or dagger found throughout Caelereth. Like the cutlass, the Avennorian Fighting Knife is curved and synonymous with the Avennorians and their Glandorian ancestors.

Description
Reaching two palmspans in length from the hilt to the tip of its blade, the Avennorian Fighting Knife has a bit of an identity crisis as it is longer than a standard knife or dagger but shorter than a cutlass, erpheronian shortsword or other one handed swords. The weapon has a curved metallic blade and a handle made of those bones which are available to the maker of the weapon. While the

Usage
These knives are used as a good all purpose tool and standby weapon by the Avennorians, peasant, merchant and noble alike. While most would prefer a cutlass, rather than this shorter weapon, an Avennorian will always fall back on this in a pinch. Outside of combat, Avennorians find this an effective tool for many purposes such as dicing up food, cutting through rigging or nets and gutting the latest catch of the day. As such, almost every Avennorian, from the age of eight, has one of these knives.

As Avennorians and their Glandorian ancestors encountered and traded with other people, these knives spread, including to the Sanhorrim and Arthyrón elves and the Mitharim dwarves. The Eyelian,

Fighting Style
Skilled practitioners in the use of the Avennorian Fighting Knife will traditionally either use two of them, or one of these and a longer weapon. When two Avennorian Fighting Knives are used, the weapon is used primarily in a stabbing notion, although some practitioners will use them to block blows from an opponent in one hand while they strike with a heavier weapon, be it cutlass, rapier or a heavier one handed weapon with the other hand.

The lightness of the weapon makes it attractive to both the adults and youth among the Avennorians, particularly those youngsters going to sea for the first time. The relatively short length of the Avenorrian Fighting Knife is the main drawback of the weapon, as an opponent with a longer weapon can stay far enough way to

Origin/History
As the name suggests, the Avennorian Fighting Knife was first named as such by the Avennorians and their Glandorian ancestors.

This isn't a comment on what you've done; just a mention that you might want to, if you haven't already, read the cutlass entry thoroughly, because there are some things about the original knives there, as I recall. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for that, Athviaro. I've read it and the Avennorian men entry and the cutless entry a number of times, and still continue to refer back to it for further details I have missed.

Thanks again for the suggestion,

I haven't forgotten about it ... Eight Winds bay, Blessed Sea Elves, Kyranians and Ximax are currently higher on my to do list than this at the moment, that's all :) But as I've just done Eight Winds Bay and Ximax related entries ... maybe I should see about doing these knives next :D ... or maybe Daughters of Gouran and then this :D

I'm amazed you can see the Altario projects pile considering it is dwarfed by my unfinished projects. For which I apologise.
