This chapter of herbal remedies discusses the various flora and fauna of Caelereth which may be the cause of ailment, either through accidental or deliberate exposure. The varried nature of the poison means that they range from merely unpleasant to outright deadliness.

Allia Berries:
Appearance: A short, five-petalled flower with a purple bloom and colourful fruit. The ripe purple berries of the Allia Flower are the source of the plant's poison.
Effects: Alia juice causes severe stomach aches and a high fever, leading to bouts of fainting and eventually death.
Harvesting Method: As with all poisons, care should be taken when picking the Alia berries. Once picked, the berries need to be crushed to release the poisonous juice within, often done with a spoon and a bowl, before being stored for use.
Territory-These berries can be harvested from the Allia Flower that is growing across the middle regions of Santharian Kingdom, in heaths, meadows and near the forests.

The Alth'mon-
Appearance- The Alth'mon is a small, shrub-like plant with a white flower, protected by three rings of spade-shaped leaves with sharp spines.
Effects- This poison mainly affects animals, but in concentrated portions it may even harm humans. Once ingested the poison takes affect by first causing the skin to tingle changing to a burning sensation before numbing, similar to frostbite.
Harvest Method- The plant need be simply ingested or chewed for the poison to take effect.
Territory- The Alth'mon can be found all of the way from the Tandala Highlands to the tip of the Peninsula of Iol. The Alth'mon does not grow in the Kanapan Peninsula, due to the warmer climes.

The Anemonel:
Appearance: The Anemonel has five petals, which form a star-like flower that is pink at the base and snowy white at the tip. The stems and leaves of the Anemonel are green.
Effects: Ingestion of the leaves can cause headaches, fever, diarrhea, stomach pains, and in some cases, even death. The poison of the leaves works quickly, and usually, if consumed, will begin to take effect in the first few hours after.
Harvesting Method: The green leaves of the Anemonel contain the most potent poison. Ideally, they should be harvested in spring, when the leaves are the most moist and yield the greatest concentration of poison. After harvesting the leaves should be crushed in a bowl, taking care to wring all of the moisture from the leaves after that let these leaves to boil in boiling water for approximately two or three hours. Intense care should be taken during the handling and preparation of the poison to avoid accidental exposure.
Territory: The Anemonel grows in forest regions in Northern Sarvonia, greatest concentrations exist in the Shaded Forest, they also commonly grow in Shadow Lands, and as far north as the Themed’lon Forest

The Arryi-
Appearance- Arryi appears to be a tall, grass-like plant with many leaves. Roughly halfway up the stem, purple lantern shaped flowers grow.
Effect- Ingestion of Arryi leaves causes a blockage of the airways and severe bleeding in the mouth and throat.
Harvest Method- The leaves of the Arryi are the source of the poison. They must be harvested during summer when the flowers are purple. Harvesting blue flowers from the plant will have the opposite effect. The leaves must be ingested or steeped in boiling water in order to take effect.
Territory- The Arryi has been spotted in the Aj’nuvic Grounds, a valley north-west of the Nirmenith Mountains (Santharian province of Truban), a half arid region with an adapted plant and animal life. The Arryi has also been spotted in the mountains of Aeruillin. It needs a special climate, very dry in summer, very cold in winter.

Crimson Rose-
Appearance- The Crimson Rose resembles common roses, however the stem of the flowers are black as are the numerous thorns. The petals are a much deeper red, and the heart of the flower is black.
Effect- The poison is used as a sleep aid but if administered in a large enough dose the victim will fall into a permanent sleep that is followed by death if not given an antidote.
Harvest Method- The petals of the rose should be dried and ground into a powder, which may be taken on its own, or added to food or drink.
Territory- The Crimson Rose only grows on the continent of Cyhalloi on the island of Guldor. It is seen to grow in the protection of a rock, deep within a cavern or other sheltered places. The Echiilianni build cottages where they cultivate the flowers, protecting them from the harsh weather.

Flying Spark Grass-
Appearance- Burning Grass is a roughly thigh height. It is tough, but flexible, and bears a multitude of tiny hooks on the blade.  The grass is red or orange, turning brown in winter. It bears bright orange flowers.
Effect- If ingested Flying Spark Grass can cause severe paralysis that can last up to several days. The harvested and distilled, dead grass will slow a victim.
Harvest Method- Flying Spark Grass is only safely harvested during winter, when the grass is brown. The grass should be dried and ground into powder. This powder can then be made into a paste that can be smeared onto a weapon.
Territory- The Flying Sparks grows in Northern Sarvonia including the Icelands Coast and the Peninsula of Iol. It can be found as far south as the Grasslands of Cahm'ha'dom. Its territory is often wherever the seeds were blown in the previous year.

Foolsbed Dew-
Appearance- Foolsbed Dew is dew captured from between the thorns of the Foolsbed Bush. It has the appearance of fresh, clean water.
Effects- Foolsbed Dew is known to put the imbiber into a deep sleep. Overindulging in Foolsbed Dew results in a sleep from which one cannot be woken, eventually resulting in death.
Harvesting Method- To harvest Foolsbed Dew one must go into the desert and find the Foolsbed Bush, also known as Wanderthorn or Batbush. After finding the bush one must carefully gather the thorns of the plant where they collect moisture. Once this is accomplished the thorns are mashed into a pulp and then pressed to extract the liquid know as foolsbed Dew. The Dew in its pure form can then be taken by mouth or rubbed into the skin. More than two drops applied in either manner will result in death.
Territory- The follsbed bush is widespread in Aeruillin and grows where the conditions allow it, especially in the very south.

Frent Mushrooms-
Appearance- Frent Mushrooms are short, brown-capped mushrooms with a dirty white stem and warty growths.
Effect- If ingested Frent Mushrooms will lead to death. However, death is not instant, on the contrary, the frent sickness (Frenting) may take up to two months to manifest.
Harvest Method- The Frent Mushroom can be merely picked and stored for later use. If there is a desire to conceal the mushroom, it can be dried and ground into food or drink.
Territory- The Frent Mushrooms grow mainly in the middle regions of the Sarvonian Continent. They are found in small patches in southern Santharia as well, brought south by travellers from northern Santharia.

Krakenweed-
Appearance- Krakenweed is a freshwater weed, that grows brown tendrils. The poison resides in yellowish bulbs at the end of reddish tendrils on the plant.
Effect- Krakenweed poison paralyzes the victim. In most creatures, especially small ones, this is often fatal. If the poison is delivered to an extremity it might be survivable.
Harvest Method- The poison of the Krakenweed can be extracted by cutting open the bulbs and draining them. Wearing gloves or other protective gear is highly advised. Krakenweed poison is odorless and colourless.
Territory- Krakenweed grows in lakes, rivers and swamps on the Sarvonian Continent, especially in the Mashdai river flowing through Marcogg. Krakenweed is also not uncommon sight on Denilou or north-east Sarvonia.

Nightshade Bush-
Appearance- Fully grown the Nightshade is about 3 to 5 fores high. Purple stem and branches bear flame-shaped leaves. The leaves are deep green in colour and of unequal size, with a prominent vein down the middle of each leaf, with smaller veins running to the edge of the leaf.
Effect- Nightshade, if taken in too large or pure a dose, may cause excitement and delirium, blindness, facial flushing, followed by heart palpitations and stupor, eventually giving way to death.
Harvest Method- Nightshade can be ingested raw or its leaves can be dried and crushed into a powder. This powder can be made into a paste and administered and absorbed through the skin.  Nightshade has very powerful effects and must be used with care.
Territory- Deadly Nightshade is principally encountered in the southern provinces of Santharia. It flourishes quite well in such locales as under the shade of trees, on wooded hills, or on chalk or limestonet.

The Pondpad-
Appearance- The Pondpad grows underwater except for the pad, which floats on top. It is a light green and lines radiate from the center. Underneath the pad, roots grow down to the bottom of the waterway that it is growing in, anchoring it to the bed. The roots are a green of such a pale hue that it seems to be almost white.
Effect- Fully grown, the Pondpad produces paralysis that lasts for about a day or so.
Harvest Method- The leaves are boiled and brought to a concentrate.
Territory- The Pondpad grows generally in waterways that are slow moving, and never get frozen over. Heavy frost can kill the plant, as can the water around it freezing. It generally is found only in the lowlands of southern Sarvonia.

The Puliquay-
Appearance- The Puliquay is a dull orange bloom with a brown stem that grows near the ground. It may be easily mistaken for a kila weed.

Effect- When properly prepared, the Puliquay produces a noxious gas which causes suffocation.
Harvest Method- When boiled with the water from the Sea of Tardulan it produces a potent gas. As this out of the container which has been mixed it will float in the wind suffocating smaller beasts or even people, depending on the amount of poison used.
Territory- Found on the continent of Aeruillin, at the borders of the Plain of the Dead.

Querprur's love-
Appearance- Queprur's Love is a small mushroom about the height of a dwarf's thumb. It has a grey cap and stem with darker grey gills.
Effect- Taken alone Queprur's Love causes severe seizures and terrifying hallucinations in the user for months on end. Most die from the dehydration or starvation these can cause rather than the direct effects of the drug. If they survive long enough, the eyes start to bleed and boils break out all over the body.
Harvest Method- The mushroom is only poisonous if taken alone or improperly prepared.
Territory- Queprur's Love is said to be found anywhere where death has occurred, from a slaughterhouse to a battlefield.

Tyrscaru sea lily-
Appearance- The Tyrscaru appears above water as several white blossoms surrounded by leaves and green air bladders, with strands of the plant reaching down into the water.
Effect- If the bladders of the plant contain a green, dye-like substance that can cause illness and eventually death when mixed with water and absorbed through the skin.
Harvest Method- The bladders should be carefully harvested to prevent them from rupturing accidentally. Once removed from the water, the bladder can be pierced and drained into a container for later use.
Territory- Tyscaru grow best in the colder waters around Cyhalloi, but some have been seen off Northern Sarvonia, and some have even been sighted near Santharian shores.

Valan

I am glad you are taking this on.  as you indicated this entry has been claimed and abandoned many times.  A couple of questions regarding your intended scope of this entry.  Take on as much as you think you can chew.

1) Doing a list of poisonous plants and a list of poisonous/venomous animals could be huge.  I think such lists would be very interesting  thumbup and a great resource.  However I do not think all the detail that you and the past writers are currently providing is really necessary since one can always link to the main plant or animal entry and get most of the details there.  So my suggestion is to make this simpler.

2) We already have an entry called the Antivenins and Antidotes.  I would suggest that we combine all this into one entry entry with the poisonous item in one column and the anti-poison (if there is one) in the second column would be useful.  Then we can quickly go down a list of poisonous plants and animals and immediately see if there is a cure or not.

These would be my suggestions.

The Greater Trolog produces a poison and an anti-poison is also taken from the creature by the BSEs and/or Blue Druids to deal with the poison and so could also be included in here, if not already.

While I agree wholeheartedly with the first point, the second is going to likely be a little redundant. We have a few plants, like the Waterstar which are panaceas when it comes to poisons, so I think I'd rather keep the lists separate if you don't mind.

I've tried to trim down the usage a little so far. Most of what I've got right now is wholesale copy-pasted from the work done by others. The plan is eventually to have a similar overview to the antivenins and antidotes overview, with a similar amount of content per poison.

Important question. Do we want the likes of poison ivy and poison oak, things that are merely aggravating, or are we looking at deadly nightshade and rattlesnakes? Do things that kill you if you consume too much, like false heart and hrugchuck grass

I'm also looking at removing the plants that are either too hard to trim down or don't make sense in the poison overview.

I am glad you agree with the first point because that was a bigger concern for me.

As far as what types of plants to include.  I would suggest to start with the deadly varieties.  Lets see how that looks and then if it makes sense to add the rest we can.   However for some reason I suspect we will have our hands full with the deadly plants.

Can't help but agree with the fact that we're going to have our hands full.

I've trimmed out most of the "if you take too much, then you die".
I got rid of Larshardia because there's no way I can find to trim that down and still haven't make sense. Moreover, it's not a poison that can be captured or otherwise used by anything other than the plant in its natural state.

I'll keep the poisonous animals to things that can be confirmed, just like the plants. So the Black Unicorn will stay off the list.

Thanks for the help Seeker.

I think I've completed the poisonous plants section to my own satisfaction. I've tried to keep the individual overviews trimmed.

Valan perhaps if you create a little overview for the entry we could get the plants section of this entry posted sooner than later.  No reason this cannot be done one section at a time.

Done! I've moved the animals from there for now, but I think the overview should be a coherent thing.

Poisons from creatures of Santharia:

Crystal Spider Venom:
Appearance: Venom harvested from a female Crystal Spider is transparent, while venom harvested from a male Crystal Spider is a dull white colour.
Effects: The venom of the Crystal spider paralyzes its victim. In large or especially concentrated doses, paralyzes the lungs causing the unfortunate subject to die of suffocation. The poison causes mild illness if ingested, and to take full effect must be introduced through a wound.
Harvesting Method: To harvest the spider's venom, the spider's abdomen must be crushed. This produces only a small quantity of venom. In order to gather enough venom to successfully incapacitate a larger creature, several spiders must be killed. The venom is at its most potent when collected from a batch of live spiders. A less effective extract may be derived by grinding up dead spiders and boiling the dust into a thin paste.
Territory: The Crystal Spiders live in underground burrows in the R'unorian Forest of Souls or in remote sections of the Rahaz-Dath

Tortua Scorpion:

The Gnarco Toad ("Jewel Frog")
The Falserock Lizard-poisonous wing tips
The Scorpion
The Cheerk Worm
The Khendochar-poisonous fish
The Contrariwise Salamander-poisonous slime
The Santhalian Black Hart – poisonous antlers
The Manticore-spiked poisonous tail
The Tsor-Shotak ("Giant Mountain Lizard") –poisonous saliva
The Death Dance Butterfly ("Queprur's Companion") – poisonous to eat
The Filachara Mollusk ("Luucena", "Ink Dumpling") – poisonous ink
The Giant Spider-All Giant Spiders are poisonous in two ways: paralyzing and gooifying.
The Orm
The Rahaz-Dath Sand Viper
