Wow, not often in here... *looks about curiously*
Anyway, it struck me that aside from all the tribe/race specific religious and cultural festivals that you can find in tribe entries, there aren't many festivals, gatherings, that sort of thing in Santharia. A look through the culture and customs section yeilds a few, but not as many as you'd think for a world where lots of different races and cultures live side by side. Plus when you consider that in mediaval life holidays are a much needed break from the hard work that is surviving from day to day, and a chance for people who wouldn't usually to meet, I personally think we could do with a few more of the things. Taking my lines from the Salsair horse festival, I was wondering about maybe some other big trade-related festivals; herder's fairs, craftsman's and artisan's festivals, hiring fairs, that sort of thing?

Anyway, got a bit off track. The main thing I wanted to ask was, I can't find a template for devving that sort of thing, so should I use the one on the horse festival entry, as it seems closest to what I'm doing? it basically goes:
Location:
Events:
Famous people:
Importance:
History/origin:

Also, If anyone has any ideas, suggestions etc. they'd be very welcome! I want to make these as integrated as possible, it seems a good excuse to tie lots of different entries together.

Well there are quite a bit of festivals and holidays etc mentioned in the various tribe entries but as you are pointing out there are very few that have been fleshed out into their own entries.  One of these days I want to make a list of all the festivals mentioned in the entries and plot them on a "calendar" so we know when we should be celebrating throughout the year.  grin

Twill be an overview methinks.

I'll comment on your proposed template later, I just dont have time to think about it right at the moment.

I started such a calendar years ago.... Let me see if I cannot find the bones of it in my old Santharian files somewhere!  I should be most happy to assist in a compilation as you suggest.

I think a festival/celebration template is a great idea. Seth's idea is fine, inspired by the horse festival. Someday, I'll entry the Kaaer's festivals. I like Seeker's idea of a general calendar, too!

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith. And that, I fear, for any reasoning, conscious being, would be the cruelest trick of all.

Two sans from Valan:
Would this be misc or cosmological?

And would such a calendar benefit from continental divisions?

well, given that the festival i want to start off with isn't religious, and a fair few of the festivals already existing aaren't either, cosmological would only have limited application, wouldn't it?
the calender is a great idea, i considered something similiar myself, started making a list of certain kinds of festivals, if it's help to anyone.

I've added an outline to our "How to Write Misc Entries" sticky.

Thanks for updating that thread, Valan! (Need to add a few such Guides on the site as well, we don't have them all there!)

As for a festivals entry: As there are so many festivals all throughout Santharia we definitely need a sort of focus. E.g. logical would be a regional focus like collecting Santharian festivals and make an entry for that (general festivals that are celebrated by all Santharians), and then detail tribe specific festivals within the Santharian borders. That alone is already quite a feat I'd say!

Of course another region could also be chosen if it is better feasible to do, but Santharia of course is the central thing.

Well the one I've got in the works at present is Nybelmarian, but really the aim there is just to tie various tribes together a bit and work on my own understanding thereof. kind of a test run, with the vague aim of other festival type things elsewhere later. finally got my notes in order, so hopefully get a first draft of that up here soon.
