Hey fellow Bestiary Developers,

I've been graced with a spell of two hours away from revision, courtesy of my good conscience, so I thought I'd head over to the Bestiary forum, browse around a bit, help out with comments and feedback, make sure the place is in good order under my care..

Instead I got struck by this idea: How about a mini-project, involving all of the developers who are active and have a passion for the Bestiary, in which we take individual areas / systems and define their food webs. That is to say, research all of the creatures that inhabit these areas and sort them. We identify predators, prey, who feeds on who, etc. In doing so I hope we can highlight missing links in the food chain and identify creatures that may be missing in order to make the eco-system a balanced one.

I think the idea would be fun, and would generate a list of creatures which the dream could really do with being developed. It would also set a foothold for updating area entries which I've noticed don't seem to include an awful lot about the creatures that inhabit it, if those creatures were designed after the area entry.. that might just be me though. Regardless, getting a clear look at all the animals living in these systems would give us valuable, summarised insight, while at the same time bringing us beastly developers closer together grin

Any interest in such a project?

Below is a sample 'collection pool'. I know that the headings don't fit for all of the creatures under them, but this is just so we have them organised in one manner or another without having to come up with thousands of sub-headings. Once we feel we've identified most of the creatures in there and how they fit together, we can then start drawing diagrams that'll do the whole chain more justice.

I think I might be interested. I seem to have settled myself into the Bestiary, just popping over to the Herbarium every now and then, which I guess would also work with this project. ;) I've actually been working on a list of creatures/plants to create myself, to give the Scattersand Shoals a more diverse eco-system, and something like this would help with that too. So, if I can help in any way, I'd be happy to. :)

Sounds wonderful Tikanni, by the sound of things you've already been thinking along similar lines to me; the whole idea of establishing a balanced ecosystem. It'll be great to have you on the team.

How about I hand over the Scattersand Shoals to you then? Would you be alright with that? Seeing as you've already had a thought about that part of the world. Grab what I've put up so far, modify it as you see fit and add to it (for now, only with creatures already approved or being designed, just to avoid confusion. or maybe mark the ones you've thought of but haven't designed yet, so we can see what to expect?) And I'll update the section up top whenever you tell me

*victory tapdance* one person on the team! that's almost a full party, haha

Yep, that's fine, Jonal, I just hope I don't disappoint. I might have questions at some point, so I'll PM you, if that's okay, if/when I do. Glad to be of service! :)

This was also something I tried to do in my recent Eight Winds Bay entry ... identifying what eats what and what is eaten by what and so forth ... time permitting, I'd be interested in doing it for the Eight Winds Bay area.

I'd been thinking on similiar lines a few times, but never got to the point of actually doing anything about it - I'd be happy to help out with any area really, though I seem to remember getting a handle on the fauna/flora of theSilvermarshes area a while back for some mullog myths, so I could start there perhaps?

so I think this is more or less complete - I started to fill in recognised chains as you had in the tester, Jonael, but it was getting ludicrously complicated and repetetive, so I've noted what they eat or are eaten by next to individual species. hope that's alright. Also i could put links in, but that'll take a while.

Nice! Awesome job Seth. Yes that looks pretty extensive, and as you rightly pointed out the chains get repetitive after a while. I quite like the brackets idea. Might be worth adapting that format instead of the chains. Good call. Even has a little summarising statement at the end... simply brilliant

I'll go about putting that into the top post then +aura from me for the extensive and fast work.

It's super-appreciated!
