Hi there,

I'm trying to come up with a suitable animal ... I've looked at some of the animals in the bestiary, but not really sure if I can see what I'm after ... before I go ahead and commit to making another animal, I thought I'd ask here.

I'm looking for an animal that would serve as a symbol for the Boyzinna Fellowship (the boys who collect the waste products from the good citizens of Ximax City for the tanning process undertaken in Tanners' Bend.) The animal would have to be one that is unwanted/abandoned/left alone in some way, be around Ximax and yet play a vital role in that environment such that if it was missing that it would be noticed and to the detriment of the local area.

I was going to create a little mini goat creature to perform that role ... one that was tri-coloured and one that somewhat lessened the stink from the tanning process, but which was shunned by other animals, or the different generations shunned each other ... but wondered if there was some animal existing already in that area that could meet the basic concept ... something unwanted but if not there, it would be missed greatly.

I welcome any help and suggestions about this.

Dek

Rats? Eat waste, but people hate them?

Any good?

Aye, as straight forward as it may sound, rats seem to fit the criteria pretty well. On top of that I'd support them because we've got a whole list of different rats that need entries over in the archived thread. I'm certain that some of them can be tweaked a little and spiced up a bit to help out both you and that list ^^

Cats? They hunt rats? But yowl and make nuisances from time to time?

Don't we have super-intelligent cats and rats in Ximax already?  Which makes them "useful" really, and not what you're looking for. Some sort of scavenger bird of prey that has taken to hanging round rubish tips?  You could take a wild bird and expand on the desciption, giving it an urban version.  Rather like foxes have moved into our cities.  Maybe birds of prey that were brought in and then escaped and became feral hunters?

We could use a magpie....   birds I happen to love.    Often blamed for picking up bright trifles, but intelligent and cunning.  And of course Santharian magpies could be tweaked to BE vital in some specific way to your environment.....

I know we have corbies (crows) cos I wrote them.  Not sure about the pies.
